Usually, Mariah Carey is all butterflies and rainbows. Sadly, the twinkle in her eyes has grown dim after tragedy struck the Carey family.

Today (August 26), in an exclusive statement to People, the “Always Be My Baby” singer revealed that both her mother, Patricia Carey, and sister, Alison Carey died over the weekend. As if that wasn’t enough of a punch to the stomach, they mournfully passed on the same day.

In the midst of her grief, Carey managed to power through to update her devoted superfans, the Lambs, about their untimely deaths. “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” she said. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” adds Mariah. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

Supporters online have begun to flood Mariah’s social media pages with touching messages. Many encouraged others to use their discernment before commenting on the Carey family dynamic. In Mariah’s 2020 best-selling memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she addressed the at times rocky relationship she had with her late mother, writing: “Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.”

Damian Lillard is getting set to enter his 13th season in the NBA and second with the Milwaukee Bucks. The first season in Milwaukee didn’t go as planned, as the Bucks were eliminated in the first round by the Indiana Pacers, as Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo both missed time with injuries.

Heading into the 2024-25 campaign, the Bucks are no longer the talk of the East, as the Celtics won a championship in June and the Knicks and Sixers both made splashy additions this summer to try and challenge them. That’s moved Dame, Giannis, and company to the periphery of the conversation, and they’ll be looking to prove they can fulfill their promise as a championship contender in Year 2.

For Lillard, he will do so in the ninth edition of his signature sneaker with adidas, and on Monday they unveiled the new Dame 9, which features a collaboration with BAPE for the initial launch. There will be two BAPE colorways of the Dame 9 ($160) dropping on August 31 — green camo and red — along with some Dame x BAPE merch to go along with the sneakers.

It’s the second BAPE collab with adidas for the Dame line, as they also worked together on a pair of Dame 4 colorways. The sneakers and merch line — which includes a t-shirt, reversible black camo jersey, shorts, and socks — will release on August 31 on the adidas app, CONFIRMED and at BAPE.com.

Alex Proyas directed The Crow in 1994 and has been not so secretive about his disdain for the new take on the story. In the weeks leading up to the release of the 2024 remake starring Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs, the director was criticizing the existence of the film. Now that the movie is out, he is taking his airing out his frustration in the land of opinioned individuals: Facebook.

Proyas posted a series of dramatic Facebook statuses, all referencing the audience response for the reboot, which added up to less than $5 million on opening weekend. In one post, he wrote “I thought the remake was a cynical cash-grab. Not much cash to grab it seems.” Another said, “Wow. Box office is a bloodbath.” A third post read, “Wow. The reviews are brutal.” You know what else was brutal? This comment from Proyas: “Maybe they can lend their DCPs to film schools for classes on how NOT to make a movie? The theatres sure won’t need ’em after next weekend.” Ouch!

This isn’t the first time Proyas has spoken about the remake, though he had a much more neutral approach when the trailer first dropped, posting:

I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow filmmakers work. And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes. THE CROW is not just a movie.

Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That’s how it should remain.

He also took a slight jab at Bill Skarsgard’s haircut, which seems like a low blow, but at least it will grow out! It makes sense that Proyas did not want the legacy of his film tarnished, and sharing a post from a user who was “marked safe” from the remake went far enough without going for poor Bill’s hair.

TLC was supposed to perform at the New York State Fair in Syracuse on August 23. But, the duo didn’t end up making it, as T-Boz (real name Tionne Watkins) had been hospitalized for a health issue that turned out to be a severe abdominal blockage. A performance at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut set for that night was also canceled.

Now, T-Boz herself has spoken out.

In an Instagram post shared over the weekend, T-Boz wrote, “I’m on The Mend!!! This Was Just One Of Those Unexpected Things That I Had No Control Over! I Look Forward To Making It Up 2 You All… And Hopefully I’ll Get Out Of The Hospital Soon!!! As Soon As Tomorrow If All Goes Well!!! Thank You For Understanding… Blessings Always T [heart emoji].”

TLC’s original post announcing the cancellations explained the situation, saying in part, “After delivering an electrifying performance in Toledo, Ohio on Thursday, TLC was eagerly anticipating their next stop at the New York State Fair in Syracuse. However, shortly after arriving in Syracuse, Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins experienced sudden and severe nausea, vomiting, and intense abdominal cramps. She was immediately seen by a doctor and subsequently taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Last evening, Tionne was diagnosed with a severe abdominal blockage, necessitating the cancellation of both the Syracuse and Foxwoods performances. She remains in the hospital under medical supervision but is expected to be released tomorrow. The doctor verified that this was not food poisoning, but an abdominal blockage.”

The European leg of Taylor Swift‘s The Eras Tour is over, and so, too, is Paramore‘s time as an opener. The influential group — led by Hayley Williams, Zac Farro, and Taylor York — has played more than two dozen shows on the trek, including every show since May. Paramore shared their appreciation for Swift asking them to join the tour in a post on their Instagram account.

“@TaylorSwift, thank you for asking us to be a part of such an incredible moment in your life and career. We loved playing for the Swifties, we loved watching you tell your life story through this show. And we truly fell in love with your whole crew,” they wrote. “Congrats on one more leg of this giant, history making tour. We love you!” There’s also a fun photo of Williams and Swift giving a thumbs up, which you can see here.

Swift and Williams have known each other since 2009 when they were introduced to each other at a Grammys party thrown by Timabaland. The Paramore singer recalled the meeting last year on The Tonight Show. “I was very nervous,” she said, “but a woman came up to me and she said, ‘I’m Taylor Swift’s mom and, you know, Taylor doesn’t have a lot of friends her age that do music. And I would love to, like, you know, introduce you guys or get your number.’… Andrea, the legend that she is, she connected us.”

Roan’s hit previously hit a high of No. 1, and after falling down to No. 7, it’s back at its personal best rank.

5. Billie Eilish — “Birds Of A Feather”

“Birds Of A Feather” previously topped out at No. 5, a spot it hangs onto this week.

4. Kendrick Lamar — “Not Like Us”

Lamar’s hit Drake diss is No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart for a 15th week and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a 13th week.

3. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars — “Die With A Smile”

The biggest debut of the week goes to Gaga and Mars’ new collaboration, making it Mars’ 19th top-10 hit and Gaga’s 18th.

2. Post Malone — “I Had Some Help” Feat. Morgan Wallen

A day after Malone’s new album F-1 Trillion debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the hit Wallen collab is still nailing it on the Hot 100.

1. Shaboozey — “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”

Last week, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” tied “I Had Some Help” for the longest chart-topping reign of 2024 so far. Well, Shaboozey is No. 1 again this week, so it’s now the longest-running No. 1 single of 2024 as of this week.

The Dallas Cowboys spent all of training camp and preseason without their top offensive weapon, as CeeDee Lamb held out seeking a new contract extension that would pay him like one of the NFL’s best receivers. Lamb had considerable leverage, as a year ago he led the NFL in receptions with 135 and racked up 1.749 yards and 12 touchdowns, accounting for more than a third of Dallas’ receiving production.

However, with Dak Prescott also waiting on a new contract and other top players like Micah Parsons needing a big payday soon, the Cowboys weren’t interested in moving quickly on Lamb’s deal — with Jerry Jones not helping matters by calling Lamb’s contract “not a priority.” As such, they got all the way through the final week of the preseason before working out a new deal with Lamb that guarantees him $100 million over a new 4-year deal that could be worth up to $136 million.

Lamb gets the top end money he was looking for, with a record-breaking $38 million signing bonus, and allowed the Cowboys to come to the realization they needed to get him paid and on the field to have a chance at reaching their lofty goals for the upcoming season. With Lamb’s deal done, all eyes will be on how Prescott performs this year and what happens with him next offseason, when he can test the free agency waters. He figures to command $50 million per year, but exactly how high his next contract goes will depend on whether he and the Cowboys can finally make some playoff noise.

Before there was A Quiet Place, there was A Loud Place known as New York City, filled with the sound of sirens and crowds all saying “Hey I’m walkin’ here!” In A Quiet Place: Day One, we learn the origins of the alien invasion that lead to A Quiet Place and all of that silence.

Day One tells the story of the initial chaos a year prior to the start of the first film, which starred John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. The prequel stars Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn as Sam and Eric, two stranger who band together during the invasion, along with a fluffy orange cat.

While working on the movie, Nyong’o overcame her fear of cats and even wound up adopting one thanks to her bond with the cat actors. “Paramount was kind enough to hire a cat trainer to meet me before I got to the production and helped me get over my fear, just through exposure and asking questions, [like] ‘Why is that cat rubbing himself on that furniture like that?’” she told Variety. “Very slowly, I was able to grow with courage and touch them and before long, I could hold them.”

The movie hit theaters in June, and now it’s heading to stream so you can watch Nyong’o fall in love with cats in real time. A Quiet Place: Day One will stream on Paramount+ on Tuesday, August 27th in the U.S. and Canada. Both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II are streaming on Paramount+ so you can crank out a whole quiet marathon before adopting your own cat.

Thor ditched his hammer for… drumsticks?

Ed Sheeran has been grinding out his headlining Mathematics Tour since April 2022, but he’s still finding ways to keep it fresh. On Saturday, August 24, Sheeran hit Arena Națională in Bucharest, Romania, and he brought a friend.

In a video posted by Ed Sheeran HQ, Sheeran is shown standing next to Chris Hemsworth backstage.

“Basically, what’s happened is Chris emailed me last December saying he’s doing a documentary on cognitive health and the benefits of learning [an] instrument,” the four-time Grammy winner explained. “He came to visit me, and he has learned drums. He’s coming on stage in front of 70,000 [people].”

Hemsworth chimed in, “I’ve been thinking about it a lot. It’ll be nice to put this one to bed.”

The video shows footage of Sheeran informing the crowd that they had unknowingly been treated to the drumming of Hemsworth “for the whole time” before performing “Thinking Out Loud.” Afterward, Sheeran complimented Hemsworth’s outing and presented him with a silver trophy — “a participation award” for “drumming excellence.”

In November 2022, Hemsworth opened up to Vanity Fair about discovering he possessed to copies of the APOE4 gene, which is linked to increased risk of Alzheimer’s, while Hemsworth was working on Limitless for National Geographic. Unfortunately, the aggregation machine grabbed hold and perpetuated misinformation that the 41-year-old Australian actor had been diagnosed with dementia, which Hemsworth addressed with Vanity Fair earlier this year.

“It really kind of pissed me off because it felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and shared this,” Hemsworth told the publication. “No matter how much I said ‘This is not a death sentence,’ tthe story became that I have dementia and I’m reconsidering life and retiring and so on.”

Rather than retire, Hemsworth decided to learn an entirely new skill and, apparently, head up a documentary.

Ever since Ted Lasso season 3 wrapped up in May 2023, there’s been the question of whether that was the season or series finale. It’s beginning to look like the former: Variety reports that the soccer comedy is “heading towards a season 4 greenlight” after Warner Bros. Television picked up the options for stars Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins).

But what about the rest of the cast, including Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis? It’s likely he’ll be “involved in the revival in some capacity,” although maybe only as an executive producer. The status of Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) is currently unknown, but it doesn’t sound like Phil Dunster (Jamie Tart) will be back due to scheduling conflicts with a pair of other series, Prime Video’s The Devil’s Hour and Apple’s Surface.

It’s important to note that Apple TV+ hasn’t officially announced a fourth season of Ted Lasso yet, but if it does happen, here’s what the cast reportedly looks like as of this moment:
