The Post-Colbert Time Slot On CBS Might Get Really Weird After James Corden Leaves

When James Corden exits The Late Late Show next year, CBS might not be going the traditional route to replace the late night host. According to a new report, the network is eyeing a “multi-host panel” when Corden ends what will be an eight-year run in 2023. As late night viewers tend to mostly watch clips online the following day, CBS is hoping to tap into the audience who’s going to bed at a reasonable hour.

Via Variety:

People familiar with the matter suggest CBS is mindful of having the new show’s production costs align with the new ways people are watching late-night TV. Producers of the shows often find themselves focusing more intently on feedback from social media users, who pass around clips from the previous evening’s programs and watch them on Twitter or YouTube. In some views, the big late-night shows remains tied to some of TV’s earliest traditions and may not be as relevant to an audience that often watches comedy clips on phones and tablets.

The Late Late Show may also forgo a live band “or other trappings that have come to be expected from the format.” If all of this sounds like CBS doesn’t know what the heck it’s going to do when Corden leaves, that’s also true. Insiders say all of these ideas are being tossed around with nothing set in stone. However, as Variety notes, the multi-panel approach would offer CBS the opportunity to feature several, more diverse personalities rather than having a permanent host, which, traditionally, have been white men à la Corden, Colbert, Kimmel, etc.

Of course, this does raise the important question of how you’re going to fit a whole bunch of hosts inside a fighter jet piloted by Tom Cruise. Maybe some of them could hang onto the wing? Or, no, wait, be strapped underneath them like missiles. BOOM. Nailed it.

Hooper Turned Rapper DC The Don Rates NBA Stars’ Rap Bars

The rapper-hooper comparison might be a cliche, but cliches are cliches for a reason. It remains as true as ever: Rappers all want to be ballers and ballers all want to rap. Now, more than ever, the crossover (heh) has gotten ridiculous, blurring the lines between the two as former high school hoop stars like NLE Choppa and Quavo pen Billboard hits, and rap’s upper echelon guys get pro hoops co-signs from LeBron James like Lil Durk, sign pro contracts like J. Cole, or host their own in-home rec leagues like Drake.

Intriguingly enough, as more NBA stars dip their toes into rap careers, following in the footsteps of Shaq, Kobe, and Allen Iverson, it’s a little rarer to see ball players get serious about their rhymes. Of course, there’s Damian Lillard, who’s three albums deep into his career as Dame D.O.L.L.A., but for the most part, the current generation of NBA talent has yet to commit. Maybe they just need a little encouragement, and that’s where Milwaukee native/LA transplant DC The Don steps in.

The 6’7 rising rap star is best known for viral tracks like “Worst Day” and “Walk Thru,” but he’s probably just as well-known for his first song “Everything 1K” appearing in Big Baller Brand’s first sneaker commercial. That’s because he was a former Chino Hills High teammate of Lonzo Ball — another aspiring rhyme purveyor currently playing in the NBA — and his brothers LiAngelo and LaMelo. Obviously, DC went the other way, and so he’s willing to lend some of his expertise to rating NBA stars’ rap bars. Check out the video above.

A Loose Cow Wouldn’t Moo-ve Out Of The Way Of An Oklahoma Highway And Had To Be Lassoed By A Cowboy

Mondays, am I right? You never know what life is going to throw at you on Garfield’s least favorite day. It could be an early morning meeting with the boss before you’ve even had a chance to drink your coffee, it could be having to catch up on studying after spending all weekend in a drunken haze, or it could be a cow causing a traffic jam.

“Sky 5 was flying over the moments when cowboys and emergency crews wrangled a cow that got loose on a busy Oklahoma City highway,” the KOCO 5 News Twitter account tweeted this morning. The video begins with two trucks surrounding the cow, but the crafty bovine escapes the makeshift encampment and continues to run. As the helicopter continues to follow the cow from above, a man in a cowboy hat (Benedict Cumberbatch?) arrives on horseback and lassos the farm animal. “Get him, get him, get him, stay on him, stay on him, YES,” a voice says as the cow is slowed down.

Hopefully the drivers steered out of the way of the (first) cow, which are best herd from afar, not seen on the road. The steaks were high. OK, I’m done. I wouldn’t bullsh*t you.

You can (and should) watch the runaway cow video below.

Darvin Ham Believes Russell Westbrook Has ‘A Ton Left In That Tank’

The Los Angeles Lakers introduced Darvin Ham as their new head coach on Monday afternoon, and Russell Westbrook — who was in the room watching Ham’s presser — was unsurprisingly a major topic.

In recent months the expectation has shifted from the Lakers looking to trade Westbrook to them keeping him through next season so as not to have to give up a future first round pick just to move on from him. That, of course, means something pretty significant has to change next year based on how poorly this season went and Westbrook voicing his frustrations with Frank Vogel and the previous coaching staff’s usage of him in his postseason exit interview.

Ham was asked about how he felt Westbrook fit into his plans and made clear that he still believes in Russ, while also noting that he’s going to be asking for buy-in from Westbrook (and LeBron and Anthony Davis) with regards to sharing the load on both ends of the floor.

It’s not a surprising comment from Ham given the reporting that came out during the search that indicated the next coach would have to sell the Lakers on a plan to turn things around without Russ being traded. Still, it’s clear that Ham does recognize that a considerable portion of the Lakers problem a year ago was commitment on the defensive end and that he’ll need the full team to buy-in, led by its stars, for this to work. That’s not a guarantee, but it’s about the only path forward with Westbrook on the roster and Lakers fans can take some solace in the fact that Ham seems to understand what is needed and have a plan in place to try and make the most of the group — which will need reinforcements in free agency to fill out the roster.

The real question is whether that plan comes to life, and that’ll be incumbent on Westbrook and the rest.

How one mom is using Facebook to help hundreds of families find formula in South Florida

Nurse manager Katherine Quirk was following the news about the national baby formula shortage and growing more and more concerned. She saw stories of parents arriving at stores to find formula shelves empty. People with babies who have specific dietary restrictions unable to find the brand or formulation they need. Caregivers desperate to find formula to feed their babies. The U.S. formula shortage has grown into a full-blown, genuine crisis.

It’s been more than a decade since the mom of three fed babies of her own, but the magnitude of the problem hit her, both from the news and in Quirk’s personal circle.

“I’m in many local ‘mom’ Facebook groups and I saw post after post about the need for formula and the lack of availability,” Quirk tells Upworthy. She decided she wanted to do something to help.

In early 2021, Quirk and her husband had organized a Facebook group that helped thousands of senior citizens find COVID-19 vaccine appointments in the Parkland, Florida area, so she knew social media could be a powerful tool to crowdsource information and get it out to a community.

She searched for formula-finding groups on Facebook, but most were very large and she didn’t find any specific to her area. So she decided to start the South Florida Baby Formula Info Group on May 4, 2022, to help local parents and caregivers find formula locally.

“I wanted to provide a group, a kind of one-stop shop, where formula could be given to individuals who needed it, as well as providing information about local stores and online availability,” she says. “Facebook was the best choice as the group allows a consolidation of information as well as a platform to get information out quickly to the public.”

Quirk says the blueprint from their COVID-19 vaccine group had worked really well, so she basically just replicated it. The formula-finding group has now grown to more than 800 members who share specific formula needs and local resources. Quirk says the group has been a positive, helpful and resourceful tool during a time when families are experiencing enormous stress.

“The overall vibe is very positive,” she says. “Moms helping other moms. Caregivers lending a hand and offering up unused formula to a mom who has a need. Exchanges happening between parents if perhaps a sample was received that is not needed.”

She says community members will walk into a store and share a photo of baby formula availability to help the parents who can’t drive all over South Florida to find what they need.

“We have individuals in the group who are very skilled at checking online availability and alerting when baby formula becomes in stock online,” she says. The group also has people who “keep a protective eye on the community.”

Quirk says anyone can start a similar Facebook group for their local area, for formula-finding or any need that arises in a community.

“If you see a need in your community for it, start it,” she says. “When the community needs help, there is no better place than social media. Start a group, share it with those you know, ask your friends to share, share in other groups if it’s an option.”

“It takes some time and effort to monitor and grow a Facebook group,” says Quirk, but she manages it as a mom with a career. “If it helps even one person then it’s worth it,” she says.

“Look at your community, see where the need is and help in any way possible,” says Quirk. ”Keep things positive, keep politics out and focus on what’s important: your mission and goal.”

Here’s to people helping people in times of need, and to the tools and platforms that make such support possible.

‘Ted Lasso’ Will End After Its Upcoming Third Season (Unless, Like, It Doesn’t)

Ted Lasso, the show that proved you can use the words “wholesome” and “sports” in the same sentence, will likely end its run after the upcoming third season. The Jason Sudeikis-led series was a surprise hit when it premiered in 2020, snagging numerous nominations and awards, including an Emmy for Best Actor for Sudeikis.

When asked if season three would be the end for the acclaimed series, writer and star Brett Goldstein seemed to lean towards yes. “We are writing it like that,” the actor told Sunday Times. “It was planned as three. Spoiler alert — everyone dies.” Obviously, that’s a joke..unless it…isn’t?

This isn’t very surprising, as creator Bill Lawrence mentioned last year that the story might come to a close after season three. However, just because the initial plan was three seasons, doesn’t mean they can’t make more stories of Lasso and the gang. “The initial story Jason had in his head is a three-season arc, [but] I’m hopeful there’s more Ted Lasso stories to tell after three season.”

Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard, believes that only time will tell. “I know there’s been lots of speculation. You do feel it has a lifespan but it still feels as if it is growing,” Hunt told the very British-sounding Teddington Nub News. “Originally, it was always intended to be a three series show. There are lots of stories to unravel and settle one way or another in Series Three.” That’s a very British way of saying: there may be a fourth season, there may not be. Besides, Sudeikis is busy with…other stuff.

Florence And The Machine Covered John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’ And Totally Crushed It

Sometimes when people try to cover John Lennon, they fall flat on their faces. Look no further than a group of well-meaning celebrities led by Gal Gadot who… well, fell very flat on their faces when tackling “Imagine” during the early onset of the pandemic. But let’s take this conversation as far from that aberration as possible, because the point I’m getting at here is that Florence And The Machine is very worthy of covering John Lennon. Florence Welch has the range, the depth, the intention, and the context of the British mindset that makes her able to pull it off.

This was the case on Florence And The Machine’s recent acoustic cover version of Lennon’s “Jealous Guy,” where Welch and company did justice to the solo classic by The Beatles great. As part of a SiriusXM in-studio appearance, Welch’s breathy delivery was commanding to say the least, as she was backed by a piano, acoustic guitar, and a gorgeous harp. With her eyes closed, Welch was locked in for the entirety of the performance.

“Jealous Guy,” first appeared on Lennon’s 1971 album, Imagine, which was his second solo album away from The Beatles. The track has, in fact, been covered in the past by Roxy Music, Donny Hathaway, and Belinda Carlile. Now we can add this stunner of a rendition from Florence And The Machine to the list.

Watch Florence And The Machine cover John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” above.

Holy Heck, People Have Watched An Unbelievable Number Of Minutes Of ‘Stranger Things’

People seem to have a lot of time on their hands these days, and they are spending every waking moment of said time streaming Stranger Things on Netflix. The fourth season of Netflix’s favorite child debuted on May 27th, with a whopping 5.1 billion (!) minutes of streaming within the first three days. It’s almost as if everybody canceled their Memorial Day parties and just stayed inside to watch TV? Unheard of.

Trailing right behind the Hawkins Scooby gang is Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, which still snagged an impressive one billion minutes of viewing. Considering the show is shorter and only had two episodes at the time, maybe we should cut the Jedis some slack? They’ve been through a lot. Obi-Wan’s debut was the biggest ever for the service, according to Deadline.

Even though it seems like Stranger Things won this round, the first seven episodes average out to about 78 minutes long, which means watching the whole season is roughly 560 minutes. Considering how many fans will binge-watch an entire season in one weekend, it makes sense that they racked up those bonkers numbers. Obi-Wan, on the other hand, is still releasing episodes weekly, which means yes, there is still hope for a Jar Jar Binks cameo some point down the line.

The final two episodes of Stranger Things season four will drop in July, with the finale stretching over two and a half hours, so they will likely break another record by then. By the time the fifth and final season rolls around, the episodes will be Irishman-length.

KFC’s New Jack Harlow Meal Highlights The Chain’s Most Underrated Dish

Celebrity-endorsed fast food combos have been a thing since 1992 when McDonald’s first dropped the McJordan Special. But something changed in 2020 with the unveiling of the Travis Scott Meal. The Le Flame branded combo consisted entirely of food McDonald’s already had on the menu just slightly remixed. In spite of the lack of ingenuity, it was a giant success — inspiring around-the-block drive-thru lines and McDonald’s running out of Quarter Pounder ingredients.

Just like the great Popeyes Chicken Sandwich rollout, seeing the success of the Travis Scott Meal inspired all the other big brands to follow suit. Soon, we had the Megan Thee Stallion Hottie Sauce Chicken Sandwich, Charli D’Amelio’s Dunkin’ Collaboration, Nelly’s BK Keeping It Real Meal, and a BTS-inspired meal, among scores of others. Bringing us to our latest entry in the celebrity fast food pantheon — Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Jack Harlow Meal.

“When KFC asked me to create my own meal, I knew it couldn’t be just any meal,” says Harlow in a press release. “My meal brings together my childhood favorites from growing up in Louisville, the KFC Mac & Cheese, with my new go-to Spicy Chicken Sandwich (with plenty of ranch,) Secret Recipe Fries, and Lemonade — it doesn’t get much better.”

We have to say, we’re a little bummed that KFC didn’t take this opportunity to do Jack Harlow and the widely-beloved Come Home The Kids Miss You justice by actually creating dishes with him. Or at the least sauces. “First Class Chicken Sandwich” or the “Nail Tech Chicken Sandwich” — those would have been fly! Okay, maybe not that last one, but seriously, elevate your game, KFC!

The Jack Harlow Meal

The Jack Harlow Meal features a Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Original Recipe fries, Mac & Cheese, and Colonel’s Lemonade with a side of ranch. If that sounds like nothing special, it’s because it’s essentially KFC’s Chicken Sandwich Combo with an added side order of Mac & Cheese, and at $9.99, costs the same too. But we can’t hold that against KFC or Jack Harlow, they didn’t promise that this meal was a deal.

As part of the campaign, KFC has designed special packaging that combines the brand’s iconography with Jack Harlow’s image, a portrait of Harlow is used in place of the Colonel’s — complete with a chain in the shape of the state of Kentucky, which happens to also look like a piece of fried chicken.

I like this packaging a lot. It’s true to KFC’s weird marketing, these are the people who brought us a dating app, and a yassafied Colonel, after all. The presentation is on point. Now onto the food — let’s break the tasting notes down piece by piece from worst to best.

4. Colonel’s Lemonade

Jack Harlow Meal

Sorry to begin this review on a negative note but this lemonade is terrible. The Colonel’s Lemonade, which as far as I can tell is a fairly new lemonade recipe from KFC, doesn’t taste fresh squeezed or tangy like what you’d find at Chick-fil-A or Raising Canes. Instead, it tastes like it was made using lemon juice concentrate and a whole lot of added sugar.

It tastes almost like soda, but without the fizz. You could choose any drink with your Jack Harlow meal and we strongly suggest you pick something else.

3. Mac & Cheese

Jack Harlow Meal

In the hierarchy of fast food mac and cheeses, which admittedly are all pretty bad, KFC, sadly, has one of the worst. The noodles are over-boiled, giving them this mushy quality that makes for an awful mouthfeel. The cheese is also not very cheesy. Instead, the whole thing just tastes like salt. It doesn’t have the distinct sharpness and subtle floral quality of quality cheddar or the intensity of something like Velveeta. It’s just wet salt.

2. The Sandwich

Jack Harlow Meal
Dane Rivera

After two major misses, things finally kick up with the main course of the meal, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. The fast food landscape is littered with chicken sandwiches right now, just about every chain has relaunched a new sandwich in the wake of Popeyes’ success, including KFC. While this year-old sandwich is a step up from the snack wrap, it still needs a bit more work.

First the batter, it’s completely flavorless — it uses KFC’s Extra Crispy batter recipe which delivers on the crunch but is seriously lacking in spices compared to the Original Recipe. It’s just crunchy and salty, you don’t even get a hint of garlic or onion powder and the thick chicken filet is strangely flavorless too. The meat has this weird texture to it that looks highly manufactured… even by fast food standards.

The sauce does a lot to remedy what’s missing in the chicken. KFC’s spicy sauce provides a nice cayenne-backed heat and brings a savory quality to the sandwich when paired with the tangy pickles. I tried dipping this a bit in the ranch, but it’s not easy to dip a chicken sandwich, which is why I really feel like KFC should’ve worked the ranch into the actual recipe.

It’s not a bad sandwich, it’s fine, but Jack Harlow deserved better.

1. Original Recipe Fries

Jack Harlow Meal
Dane Rivera

Since they were first released in 2020 I’ve been hating on KFC’s Original Recipe Fries for the sole reason that they replaced the delicious potato wedges. I don’t know if it’s just the power of Jack Harlow but, I’ve come around on them — these are f*cking good! These fries are encased in a light batter seasoned with garlic, black pepper, and onion powder flavor providing a crispy crunch and a whole lot of flavor.

This additional single-handedly saved the meal for me, once I placed a few fries in my sandwich it made each bite come alive, turning the sandwich from a dud to an absolute flavor bomb. My only regret is that I didn’t try working the mac and cheese into the sandwich as well.

The Bottom Line:

The Jack Harlow meal unfortunately cobbles together some of KFC’s weakest menu items. If you want to celebrate your love for Jack Harlow, just listen to “Nail Tech,” it’s a much better time. That said, Jake helped me awaken to how good these fries are — so shouts to him for that.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Has Found Herself A New Intern: 37-Year-Old Alt-Right Troll Milo Yiannopoulos

If the delightful 2015 movie The Intern starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro taught us anything, it’s that there’s no wrong age to be an intern. Companies would extend internships to 97-year-old retirees if it meant they didn’t have to pay them. That being said, it’s very funny that Christian nationalism-preacher Marjorie Taylor Greene’s new intern is Milo Yiannopoulos, the right-wing provocateur who’s pushing 40 and once promised to make everyone’s lives a “living hell.” Speaking of living hell…

The Hill reports that Yiannopoulos “announced the job on his Telegram account Monday with a photo of his official intern congressional badge.” He wrote, “I’ve finally been persuaded out of retirement. But my skills are a bit rusty, so the best role I could land was an unpaid internship with a friend. Pray for me!”

Yiannopoulos has been “retired” from Breitbart, where he worked as an editor, since he advocated for pedophilia and praised priests who molest underage boys. He also sued publisher Simon & Schuster for doing “irreparable harm” against his brand (he later dropped the lawsuit); whined about the piss-poor sales of his book; and made a cameo in an anti-abortion movie with Tomi “Nazi Barbie” Lahren. In 2021, he announced that he was “ex-gay,” making him a perfect addition to Taylor Greene’s office.
