It Is Very Important That You Know What Is Happening With Rosie Perez’s Character On ‘The Flight Attendant’

The thing I like about The Flight Attendant is that it is deeply committed to being nutty as hell. The first season was wild, for sure, all the way through. Kaley Cuoco’s character, the titular flight attendant, woke up next to a dead guy in the series premiere and we were on a rocket ship from there. There were spies and assassins and visions of both the dead guy and gigantic rabbits, sometimes together. By the end of the season (I swear this next part is all true), Kaley Cuoco had been recruited to work for the CIA by a second flight attendant who was undercover to investigate a third flight attendant — played by Rosie Perez, which we’ll come back to — for kind of accidentally selling aerospace secrets to the North Korean government. It was a really good time.

The second season has, somehow, against truly staggering odds, kept up this frenetic pace. It might have even surpassed it. Kaley Cuoco’s character is now working for the CIA, kind of, while also getting sober, kind of, but also all of these other things have happened:

  • A car exploded in Berlin and Kaley Cuoco is the prime suspect because the person who did it was impersonating her
  • She thought the impostor was a different coworker because that lady was acting all suspicious but it turned out that was just smuggling fentanyl lollipops, as one does
  • There is a weird couple with matching bleach blond hair and leather outfits who is running around doing crimes and menacing her friends
  • Her best friend is now kind of engaged to a computer hacker with incredible abs who got hit by a car and almost died but is fine now
  • She slept with her CIA handler, who might be up to no good, which is all being investigated by Cheryl Hines from Curb Your Enthusiasm, who is also on this show now

Also, and I suppose I could provide context for this if I wanted to, which I do not even a little… this happened.

It’s a great show. I really think more people should watch it. It’s the biggest mess you’ll ever see, which I mean in the best way possible. The other week there was this devastating scene with one character and her mother, just like five minutes of raw and painful emotion, and then suddenly North Korean agents were storming the house and everyone got away by shoving a lit Roman candle into the gas tank of an abandoned truck and fleeing through the flames. All of these are spoilers, in the most technical sense of the word, but I assure you that knowing it all will not take away from your enjoyment at all. There’s so much more I haven’t mentioned. Again, perfect television show.

All of which is great. I could go on for an hour. And I might, if you come over with a pizza later. But right now we need to discuss Rosie Perez. Her character, I mean. But also Rosie herself, because Rosie Perez rules. She plays a lady named Megan who, as I mentioned earlier, accidentally sold aerospace secrets to the North Koreans. How does one accidentally sell aerospace secrets to the North Koreans? Glad you asked. Turns out she was bored in her marriage to some doof who works for an aerospace company, so she wanted some excitement, so she pulled files off his laptop and gave them to some mysterious man who approached her and whoooops the files were government contracts and the mysterious man was a North Korean spy. You’ve seen it a million times.

Anyway, cut to season two, where all of this is happening:

  • She opens the season living in hiding in Iceland with a black market tuna smuggler played by Margaret Cho
  • She picks a bunch of mushrooms from a forest, which we later see her mashing up into a fine dust/paste
  • You guessed it, they are poisonous hallucinogenic mushrooms
  • She is running around dosing people with them to keep her secret and/or investigate other secrets
  • Her cover gets blown and she comes back to America using the pseudonym “Hildegard Bouffant”
  • She goes hunting for a lockbox she hid in her friend’s strip club, but the friend sold the contents of the room to some strange lady, so Rosie and her stripper friend track her down to a weird trailer in the woods and, yup, you guessed it again, dose the woman with mushroom paste and steal back the lockbox while the woman has a full-on mental collapse on the woods

Again, these are all true things that happened. The woman started season one as a bored housewife who worked for an airline and she is now running around with strippers and tuna smugglers and slipping poisonous mushrooms to people as part of a plan to evade both a slew of North Korean spies — one of whom was named, I promise, “Hawk” — and the CIA, who wants to arrest her and now employs her dear friend. Also, she is wearing an incredible number of floppy hats while doing it like she’s Carmen Sandiego or something.

I repeat: incredible. I kind of need to know what the hat budget is for this show. It’s got to be obscene. Like, it would not surprise me for a second if another show gets canceled after one season because a rogue wardrobe coordinator got a little loose with the HBO Max corporate card. It’s basically this tweet but with “hats for Rosie Perez” instead of candles.

It dawns on me as I’m getting ready to wrap this up that I really glossed over the thing where a woman wanted by both the CIA and North Korean spies managed to fly from Iceland to America without getting caught. It says a lot about this show that I consider this to be information worthy of a back burner, especially when you consider how it happened, which I will once again lay out via bullet point:

  • She and Kaley Cuoco worked with one of the assassins from season one — who originally wanted to kill them but is now their friend, sort of — to get out
  • They stole a speedboat
  • They took the stolen speedboat to a helicopter
  • They took the helicopter to a private jet, which they flew across the Atlantic.

Also, and I don’t know why I feel like this is important to share but I feel deeply in my bones that I must, the helicopter they took the stolen speedboat to was just, like, waiting for them on a cliff.

So that’s what’s going on with Rosie Perez in The Flight Attendant. I mean, mostly. There’s still so much more I haven’t spelled out. We can talk about it when you bring over that pizza later.

New Sky Ferreira Music Is Finally, Officially On Its Way After Much Teasing

In 2013, Sky Ferreira released her debut album, Night Time, My Time. It was well-received and there was much rejoicing. In the years since, though, there has been not nearly as much rejoicing as fans are still waiting for a second Ferreira album. Finally, though, it looks like one is on the way.

At the top of 2022, Ferreira’s mom said the album is coming in March. That didn’t happen, but the month before, Ferreira herself noted the album is “actually” coming out in 2022. Then, on March 31, she shared a teaser for a new song called “Don’t Forget.” Then, in April, she signed with a new music publisher. So, it looks like everything is finally coming together, which brings us to today: Capitol Music announced that “Don’t Forget” is set to drop on May 25 (next Wednesday, a week from today).

They also shared the single art, a photo of a done-up Olsen in a shimmering dress. Capitol’s tweet has since been deleted.

As for Olsen’s upcoming album, she announced it not long after releasing Night Time, My Time. It was then called Masochism, but given all the time that has passed between then and now, it’s possible Ferreira has decided to give the project a different name. Of course, news of a single doesn’t mean the new album is finally coming, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Tom Cruise Brought Up A Hollywood Legend When Asked Why He Still Does His Own Stunts

Tom Cruise is, as you might have heard, an intense guy. He doesn’t celebrate his birthday like a normal person, he makes his co-stars go through “boot camp,” and he does his own stunts, including climbing the tallest building in the world and holding his breath underwater for over six minutes. His process is high risk, high reward. But between the increasingly fantastic Mission: Impossible series and Top Gun: Maverick (“one of the best theatrical experiences” ever), the reward has outweighed the risk.

On Tuesday, Cruise appeared at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where he was questioned by French journalist Didier Allouch on why he, a 59-year-old man, still does his own stunts. “No one asked Gene Kelly, ‘Why do you dance? Why do you do your own dancing?’” Cruise replied. That’s because they were too busy asking the song-and-dance legend about the Jerry the mouse sequence from Anchors Aweigh.

The release for Top Gun: Maverick was pushed back several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cruise, a longtime proponent of theatrical experience, ensured that the movie made it to the multiplexes while many studio films were jettisoned to streaming over the two years’ worth of theatrical tumult. When asked if he faced any pressure to release the movie onto a streaming service, Cruise laughed, saying, “That was not going to happen ever. That was never going to happen.”

Cruise later said, “I remember everything.” It’s unclear if he meant that he remembers everything he’s done, or everything everyone, including you, has done. I believe it either way, and now I’m picturing Tom Cruise as an all-knowing Santa — if Santa hung onto an airplane while it was taking off. Sounds like a future movie idea.

Adult Swim Festival Returns With A Block Party In Philly Featuring Run The Jewels And Tierra Whack

Just as Adult Swim’s one-of-a-kind music/animation festival, Adult Swim Festival, was gaining momentum, it was curtailed by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival, which launched in 2018 and expanded in 2019, was shifted to an online-only event in 2021 but is soon to return in 2022. This time, it’ll not only change venues but also cities, crossing over to the east coast for the Adult Swim Festival Block Party in Philadelphia on August 5-7.

In addition to changing coasts, the format will be a little different as well, taking over multiple venues such as Brooklyn Bowl, The Fillmore, The Foundry, and Punch Line with music, “live panels, exclusive premieres, watch parties, games, giveaways, and merch.” Because it’s Adult Swim and because it’s in Philadelphia, the top line includes Run The Jewels (which formed largely thanks to the input of Adult Swim Senior Vice President Jason DeMarco) and hometown hero Tierra Whack (who previously played the festival in 2019).

Funny video compares the differences in how new moms and ‘veteran’ mothers parent their kids

When a couple has their first child, they start out with the greatest of intentions and expectations. The child will only eat organic food. They will never watch TV or have screen time and will always stay clean.

But soon, reality sets in and if they have more kids, they’ll probably be raised with a lot less attention. As a result, first-born kids turn out a bit differently than their younger siblings.

“Rules are a bit more rigid, attention and validation is directed and somewhat excessive,” Niro Feliciano, LCSW, a psychotherapist and anxiety specialist, told Parents. “As a result, firstborns tend to be leaders, high achievers, people-pleasing, rule-following and conscientious, several of the qualities that tend to predict success.”

However, it’s not just laziness that makes parents change their M.O. As parents gain experience, they learn not to sweat the small stuff and to have a bit more faith in their children.

Tova Leigh is a writer and performer who creates funny sketches on TikTok about parenting and feminism. To point out the differences between new and veteran moms she made a series of funny sketches with fellow mom Riona O Connor.

In the first video, the two mothers deal with fighting children. The new mommy uses a sweet voice and quietly suggests, “Oh honey, no, no fighting, sweetie. Gentle hands” to the brawling kids. When that doesn’t work, the veteran mother screams, “We said stop fighting!”

@tova_leigh

We’re all doing a great job, some of us just do it a little louder (or with a hose) 😂 which one are you?! with @rionaoconnor_ #fyp #funny #parenting #momsoftiktok

The video must have hit a nerve with parents everywhere because it went viral, racking up more than 3 million views. “As a mum of 5… this is 100% accurate,” Lora Bora wrote in the comments. Kira agreed saying, “I got 4…. And I felt this in my soul.”

While the video was funny, it should also provide some comfort to young mothers who feel overwhelmed by the pressure to be perfect. As blogger Constance Hall points out, the need to be perfect can rob us of precious time with our kids.

“We are only half present for them all of the time due to the constant pressure to have everything perfect,” Hall wrote in a viral Facebook post. “To go to the gym, answer that email, pay that bill, cook that organic kale, blend it, get it into a patty so no one knows it’s kale, get to the doctors…. Make the kids lunches cos if you order them again you will be JUDGED!”

In the second video, the two mothers have very different approaches to making a puree.

@tova_leigh

We’re all doing a great job, some of us just do it with a happy meal 🤪 which one are you? With @rionaoconnor_ #funny #fyp #momlife

In a third video, the two parents express their Christmas spirit in very different ways.

@tova_leigh

#ad AD We are all doing a great job, some of us just do it with less Christmas spirit 😉 Which one are you?! Did you recognise any of the lines? They are all from our favorite movies available on @SkyTV this Christmas. What’s your favorite? With the amazing @rionaoconnor_ TAG A FRIEND #ChristmasOnSky #fyp #funny #momlife #momsontiktok #newmomvsveteranmom #ad

Kids grow up fast and if you blink an eye, you just may miss it. So regardless if you’re a new mom or a veteran mom, take a page out of these mothers’ books, relax a bit and have fun being a parent. Your kids will probably forget your vegan kale puree, but they’ll always remember the time you spent just being present.

Zoo in Florida captures adorable moment when a baby sloth meets his dad for the first time

Teddy the two-toed sloth has become a proud papa and thanks to a video posted by the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park, we all get to witness the adorable reunion with his newborn son.

Mama sloth, aka Grizzly, gave birth to their healthy little one in Feb 2022, which delighted more than 3,000 people on Facebook.

The video, posted to the Florida zoo’s YouTube page, shows Grizzly slowly climbing toward her mate, who is at first blissfully unaware as he continues munching on leaves. Typical dad.

Teddy quickly kicks into love mode once he sees his precious cub, however. Pretty soon it’s nothing but a sweet nose nuzzle fest. Be still, my sloth-loving heart!

As with most mammals, male sloths don’t typically care for their young. Usually a sloth mama will go it alone, spending up to six months with the little one clinging to her chest as she traverses the trees. Eventually she’ll spend time teaching the cub to climb, forage and even do the “poop dance” (yes, it’s a real thing with sloths). But still, it remains a solo job.

It seems that Grizzly and Teddy are looking to do more of a modern family approach, and the zoo plans to respect their wishes. In a follow-up video, Sarah, one of the zoo’s bird and mammal curators, praised Teddy for “very smartly” knowing when to give Grizzly and baby their “much needed space.” Healthy boundaries at its finest.

It looks like this sloth family of three will continue cuddling away at their sanctuary, and the internet is here for it.

Metric Shares The Sweeping Industrial Banger ‘Doomscroller’

It’s wild to think that it was almost 20 years ago when Metric emerged with their debut album, Old World Underground Where Are You Now?. Songs like “Dead Disco” — and later on, “Help I’m Alive” — cemented the Canadian band’s role as a dynamic dance floor-ready rock and roll band, before the song “Black Sheep” appeared on Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, with Brie Larson famously delivering singer Emily Haines’ lyrics.

OK, enough history, because the prolific Metric is now set to release the 8th album in the band’s catalogue. Formentera arrives on July 8th and today, the band shared the sweeping new single, “Doomscroller.”

The 10-minute epic plays out like it belongs on the soundtrack to a twisted David Lynch film; its utopian industrial rock feel giving rise to feelings of dystopian digital world paranoia. The band says in a statement that it’s like a “high speed chase through the wild terrain of modern life.”

The video seesaws from dimly lit studio footage into vignettes from the world around them. But Haines says that, “These traces of life on earth that appear and disappear throughout the song subtly mirror the shifting moods of the music.” It fits congruently with the themes of Formentera, which Haines explains was shaped around, “this realization that it wasn’t even about an actual place anymore, it was about creating an escape for yourself in your mind because you’re powerless over so many things.”

Watch the video for “Doomscroller” above.

Formentera is out 7/8 via Metric Music. Pre-order it here.

‘Battlefield 2042’ Is Removing The 128 Player Option For Breakthrough

Battlefield 2042 was supposed to be the next major game in the Battlefield franchise, but a rough launch that it’s still recovering from has left many longtime fans frustrated and the game itself in a constant state of updates to try and salvage it. On Monday, the latest of those updates was announced and the 128 player option for the game mode, Breakthrough, is no longer going to be available.

In the latest patch notes for the game, DICE explained that it has decided to reduce the player count for Breakthrough from 128 to 64. The goal is to create a more tactical gameplay experience with better pacing. Since Breakthrough is supposed to be a little less arcadey than the traditional Conquest mode, the change does make some sense if the goal is to funnel players into playing more strategically. Via Patch Notes 4.1.

When reviewing Breakthrough, we noted that the 64 player version represented a more tactical experience. Reducing our player count here helps to remove some of the chaos from the experience, and in combination with the reductions that we have made to the number of available combat vehicles, it means players are better able to hold frontlines more effectively. Players will also find more space to work together and fulfill their individual roles

While this change makes sense, it’s still a huge shock to see DICE move away from one of the major selling points of Battlefield 2042. While other military shooters out there such as Call of Duty have traditionally focused on giving players a more confined combat experience, Battlefield has always been about creating huge bombastic battles with dozens of players on the map at once. 2042 wanted to take those moments and make them even bigger through the addition of 128 player combat, but it’s possible that 128 players are just too many for modes like Breakthrough that require a little bit more strategy to them than something like Conquest.

Ewan McGregor Wants To Bring Back Jar Jar Binks And We Should Let Him!

As the press continues for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have been gifting fans with every little tidbit of (spoiler-free) trivia surrounding the series. Not only have they been defending the first three Star Wars prequels (on multiple occasions) they have been able to offer a unique perspective after all these years. Finally, the cast has addressed the Jar Jar Binks-sized elephant in the room.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, and Moses Ingram were asked a series of various Star Wars-related questions, while saving the best for last: if you could meed any Star Wars character, who would it be and why? McGregor immediately praised everybody’s least favorite character in the entire galaxy: Jar Jar Binks.

“I’d like to meet Jar Jar again,” McGregor said. “I loved working with Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks. Maybe we can bring him back.” With Disney+, anything is possible! Except maybe not for Darth Maul.

The controversial Jar Jar Binks was introduced to the series as a comic relief/cute alien sidekick to appeal to young children, but there was one problem: everybody hated him and he was also ugly. Though he originally was supposed to play a larger part in the prequels, he was criticized for being too silly and even racially insensitive, so he was just left with just one single line in Revenge Of The Sith. Jar Jar was never given the ending he deserved! If anyone can bring Jar Jar back, it’s Ewan McGregor, who Best is a huge fan of.

Christensen, on the other hand, took the easy route for his answer and went with everyone’s favorite backward-talking alien. “I’m gonna go with Yoda. Just to see if I could get some of his wisdom. Maybe some of his knowledge might rub off on me.” Sure. Check out the video above.
