Sleep Among The Wolves In This Charming Quebec Hotel

After growing up 20 minutes from the Canadian border, going over often to drink at 19, play tourist at Niagara Falls, or head two hours into Canada to see Toronto during Christmas time, I’m no stranger to the joys of Canada. After moving upstate between Albany and Hudson, still close to the Canadian border, I realized how close Upstate New York is to Quebec!

Canada has a lot to offer, including friendly locals, wildlife, beautiful landscapes, French markets, and more, so when I came across this hotel with a very special feature, I knew I had to experience it.

As my boyfriend and I drove north into Canada towards Quebec, we first stopped in Montreal to check out the Jean Talon Market. Montreal is known for their wide range of markets and French cuisine, so we knew we had to browse through the colorful produce, taste some fresh oysters on the half shell, and pick out some baked goods, prepared foods, snacks, smoked fish, and cheeses. With our hotel accommodations including a full kitchen, we loaded up the cooler to take our goodies to Parc Omega.

Wildlife

Parc Omega is known specifically for their wildlife, the animals have an incredible amount of space to roam around. When you walk into your accommodation, there is a fence that blocks off the entrance to the park, so that the animals cannot get into the parking lot, protecting them from potential injury and protecting us from a dangerous interaction if we need to get to our car.

The Rooms

We stayed in the new modern cabin. Some of the other wolf cabins have a woodsy, cozy cabin kind of vibe where these were more chic and updated, it just depends on what you prefer. It has a full kitchen, so you can cook dinner, have snacks, and just fully enjoy your accommodation if you’d rather not leave for the evening. Guests can hunker down and watch the wolves and other animals that could appear in your very backyard through the floor to ceiling windows.

The living room has a cozy wood fireplace, perfect for relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine. Behind the fireplace are the windows that open up into the park. When we first walked in and set our bags down, I noticed the view. It’s beautiful year round, but we went in the winter and the snow covered trees made this space that much more romantic. I ran over to the window to see if we could see anything and right away, we spotted a few wolves in the distance. It was such an incredible experience. We sat at the window and watched them walk by. One couldn’t care less about the protective fence around the house and would come on the inside of it like the little rebel he is. The upstairs had two bedrooms and a bathroom, and the one bedroom had an attached balcony, which, even though it was chilly in the winter, was definitely worth bundling up and enjoying because you could go out and see the wolves even closer, listening to their footsteps crunching through the snow.

The Surrounding Town and Park

After watching the wolves for a while we decided to head out for dinner. There’s a local bistro in Montebello that came highly rated, so we decided to give it a try. Le Café Du Bistrot (198 Rue Principale, Saint-André-Avellin, QC J0V 1W0, Canada) is a mix of elevated pub food and French food with an interesting take on bistro dishes. I started with escargot. I’m already a big fan of escargot, but this is one of the best I’ve ever had, including escargot I’ve had in Paris. In fact, it was so delicious that we had to order another.

We had the French onion soup, which was ok, a bit sweeter, rather than salty, which is not my personal preference. We tried one of their pizzas with a fluffy crust. Neapolitan style, and quite tasty, but the star of the show was the escargot and the foie gras burger. It was good that we shared a couple things because the burger was rich, but so unique and flavorful. For being kind of a last-minute decision in the middle of nowhere, it really blew us away and had some seriously incredible French food (or atleast with a French influence). I guess it shouldn’t surprise us because many people in this area of Montreal and Montebello speak French and there’s a huge community of French Canadians, but we were so incredibly pleased.

When we made our way back to the cabin, we watched the wolves for a while before heading to bed. We slept in the bedroom that had the balcony attached. At 2:30 in the morning, I woke up to Max (my boyfriend) nudging me, telling me to listen. It was the wolves howling in harmony. We went out on the balcony, and you could hear them howling at the moon, all together. It was kind of eerie, with fog creeping in, but such an incredible experience to witness and hear.

Our time spent at Parc Omega was incredible! Guests can drive through the park to potentially see other animals, as well. It takes about an hour to drive through the entire park, but you can encounter a variety of animals based on the time of year that you’re there, like bears, more wolves, and elk. I truly can’t recommend Parc Omega enough. On our way home, we went to another spot in Montreal to stop at a food hall and get some Tim Hortons coffee on the way home. La Central, the food hall, has a wide range of food stalls and vendors, some better than others, ideal for getting a smattering of apps to share.

Pricing starts at $569 for the wolf cabins. Book Here.

Clipse’s NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert Cruises Through Their Classics

The thing about a Clipse Tiny Desk Concert is that, as Virginia natives, it’s something of a homecoming show for them. So, of course, when Pusha T and Malice hit the NPR Music offices the same day as the release of their new album, Let God Sort Em Out, they couldn’t JUST do songs from the new one, like “Ace Trumpets” and “So Be It.”

Instead, they take a 20-minute cruise through their classic, but all-too-short discography, opening with the fitting “Virginia” from their star-making debut album, Lord Willin’. From there, it’s a trip to their sophomore follow-up Hell Hath No Fury for “Keys Open Doors” and “Momma I’m So Sorry.” They skip Til The Casket Drops, which sort of makes sense; it was their least popular album and presaged their eventual split, so revisiting it would probably only bring down the mood.

The two songs from Let God Sort Em Out are “Birds Don’t Sing” and the Kendrick Lamar collab “Chains & Whips,” and no other song could make for the finale but “Grindin’,” the joint that introduced them to the world and terrorized school lunch tables across America all the way through 2002 (and likely since). A great tidbit from Bobby Carter’s write-up in the YouTube caption: ” At first, I didn’t know exactly what they were looking for in terms of sonics, but it clicked when I was told what they didn’t want: no jazzy renditions of their music.”

No jazz here, fellas. Just good ol’ futuristic Virginia Beach funk. Check it out up top.

Conan Gray Unveils The Heartbroken Anthem ‘Vodka Cranberry,’ From His Upcoming Album

Next month, Conan Gray is set to release his latest album, Wishbone. He announced it in May and shared “This Song” later that month, and now we have another preview of the project via “Vodka Cranberry.”

Lil Yachty Doesn’t Have Time To Talk In His ‘Won’t Diss You’ Video

Lil Yachty’s string of lighthearted standalone singles continues with “Won’t Diss You.” The video is shot is a very guerrilla style with fisheye lens, a la ’90s skate videos, and the aesthetic is classic Boat. Yachty dances alongside his fleet of cars and in a grassy field without a care in the world, clad in a preppy pink-and-green polo shirt. Although the lyrics are vaguely threatening, you get the impression it’s all performance, and really, he just likes to rap for fun.

For the past couple of years, it’s increasingly begun to look like the Atlanta rapper has no intentions of every releasing another full-length album again. His “rap as hobby” approach has led to a plethora of colorful singles like “Murda,” “Can’t Be Crete Boy” with Veeze, “We Ball Forever,” and more, but no release date or album announcements since 2023’s Let’s Start Here, which low-key wasn’t even a rap album.

To be honest, though, it seems like a wise approach; Yachty’s keeping things fresh and light, making sure he stays relevant between projects, but taking his time to make sure his next album is actually something worth putting out. It’s an approach that more of his peers should be emulating.

You can watch Lil Yachty’s video for “Won’t Diss You” above.

Travis Scott Announced The Imminent Release Of ‘Jackboys 2’ With Host Bun B

It looks like the sequel to Travis Scott’s 2019 EP Jackboys is coming sooner than anyone thought. While Travis teased the project back in April, and revealed a movie companion is planned for it in May, there was little information about its potential release date — until today. Travis posted the release date on Instagram, along with the reveal that this time, the tape would be hosted by Texas rap legend Bun B.

“JB2 OUT EVERY WHERE 7 13,” he wrote. “SPEAKERS AND SCREAMS AT MAX VOLUME.” So, it looks like Jackboys 2 is coming out this Sunday, giving fans a full week to enjoy the project at length (it seems he, too, is an advocate of off-cycle releases, if not returning to Tuesday releases as my colleague wrote nearly seven years ago). The post itself revealed that the project would be 17 tracks long, although it’s still unclear who all will be included outside of Travis himself, and presumably Don Toliver and Sheck Wes, Travis’ main Cactus Jack artists.

But Travis may have given fans a way of decoding potential features ahead of time, sending Lamborghinis branded with the Jackboys logo to other artists such as 21 Savage, GloRilla, Kodak Black, Tyla, Vybz Kartel, and Waka Flocka Flame.

Jackboys 2 is due on 7/13 via Cactus Jack and Epic. Get more info here.

Clipse And Kendrick Lamar Flex On The Competition With ‘Chains & Whips’

Let’s be clear; none of the rappers on Clipse’s new song “Chains & Whips” name any names in the course of flexing on their competition. But if we’re being honest, they shouldn’t have to. There are a lot of rappers that Malice, Pusha T, and Kendrick Lamar’s verses could apply to, so let’s just use “hit dogs holler” rules here. If the shoe fits, wear it.

So when Pusha snarls, “We all in the room, but here’s the elephant / You chasin’ a feature out of your element,” yes, he could probably be talking about Travis Scott, the ostensible target of his ire on their last single, “So Be It,” but it could also fit about half the rappers in the business today. Likewise, Kendrick’s threat to “send yo’ ass back to the cosmics” could be read as a little victory jig on the grave of Drake’s career — or it could be seen as a return to the competive energy hip-hop used to have before “the kumbaya sh*t” took over.

After all, Kenny does also declare, “Let’s be clear, hip-hop died again / Half of my profits may go to Rakim,” highlighting how so many of the pioneers go unrecognized (and unpaid) while clout-chasing artists who don’t even love hip-hop get million-dollar endorsement deals. They don’t need to name names — like the title of the new album Clipse dropped today, all they have to do is Let God Sort Em Out.

Jessie Murph Is Cautiously In Love (Almost) On Her New Single ‘Bad As The Rest’

Jessie Murph’s new album Sex Hysteria arrives next week, but in the meantime, we have another early look at it with the new single “Bad As The Rest,” a big-time ballad.

The song sees Murph aware that she might be heading down a bad road with somebody, singing on the chorus, “I do not love you yet / But I’m ’bout as close as I can get / Keep one last percent / Close to my chest / Just in case you turn out bad as the rest / I will not be no fool / But for you, I might do what dumb b*tches do / Put on the dress / Say ‘f*ck it’ instead / Follow my heart from my place to your bed / I’m as bad as the rest.”

A press release previously indicated the album sees Murph “opening up about themes of sexuality, generational trauma, and self-discovery with a vulnerability and honesty that marks a new chapter in her artistic evolution.” It also says that on the release, she “reckons with the past, interrogates inherited trauma, and explores the emotional complexities of growing up in environments where feelings are buried deep.”
