Watch Billie Eilish’s Dramatic, Aching Performance Of ‘No Time To Die At The 2022 Oscars

Though Billie Eilish is still relatively new to the music industry, she’s already been hitting plenty of high water marks. One such honor is being tapped to deliver a James Bond theme song, and back in 2020, Billie and her frequent collaborator (and brother) Finneas delivered the original track, “No Time To Die,” to accompany the final film that Daniel Craig would feature in as 007. Though, truthfully, Craig himself was skeptical of the song’s emotional tenor, at first, so Billie went ahead and picked a new Bond to replace him (Kidding! These stories were probably unrelated, right?).

Anyway, Billie and Finneas’ Bond anthem debuted on the Hot 100, picked up a Critic’s Choice Award, and was awarded Best Original Song at the Golden Globes, so it’s no real surprise that the song was also nominated at the 2022 Oscars. Billie and Finneas also showed up to perform the song, and you can watch their slightly different rendition of the original up top. Most notably, the song features more prominent orchestral support than the recorded version. Finneas sat at a baby grand onstage and accompanied Billie as she stole the spotlight, per usual, delivering a dramatic, aching performance that might just earn her an Oscar.

Pelicans Broadcaster Joel Meyers Trolled Anthony Davis After New Orleans’ 23-Point Comeback Against The Lakers

Sunday’s Lakers-Pelicans game in New Orleans had some massive implications for the Western Conference play-in race, as the Pelicans could move ahead of L.A. for the 9-seed with a win. The Lakers looked like they were going to make a statement with a win in the first half, leading by 20 at halftime (and as many as 23), but as has been the case far too often this season, they saw things slip away from them quickly.

New Orleans dominated the second half, outscoring the Lakers 41-25 in the third quarter to pull within four and ultimately pulled away for a 116-108 win, following the lead of Brandon Ingram and rookie Trey Murphy III. LeBron James had 39 points but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter when the Lakers managed to score just 14 points as a team, and the Lakers offense crumbled in key situations down the stretch.

It was an awful loss in a season full of them for the Lakers, and seated on the L.A. bench to watch the collapse was the injured Anthony Davis, who of course spent seven seasons with the Pelicans before a messy exit amid a trade request to the Lakers. The people of New Orleans haven’t forgotten how Davis pushed his way out, and while the Pelicans got a star in return in Ingram, the wound of Davis’ departure is still fresh in the minds of many.

One of Davis’ last acts as a Pelican was to arrive to his final game in New Orleans (in which he was sitting out with an injury) wearing a shirt that read “That’s All Folks,” a not so subtle parting message.

Pelicans broadcaster Joel Meyers, like many others in New Orleans, hasn’t forgotten about that and gave a parting shot at Davis as the Bally Sports cameras captured Davis solemnly greeting his teammates as they walked back to the bench after the loss.

I’m not sure how long Meyers has been holding that one in, but I’m glad he got to get it out because you can hear the satisfaction in his voice as he lets it fly. There will be at least one more Lakers-Pelicans matchup this season, as they play once more in L.A. on April 1 and then, provided the Spurs don’t pass the Lakers, would play in a win-or-go home play-in matchup, very likely back in New Orleans after this win clinched the tiebreaker for the Pelicans.

The Snyder Cut Got Its (Bizarre) Oscars Moment, And Viewers Are Either Totally Thrilled Or Very Confused

The Oscars have grown unexpected chaotic. Some disorder was to be expected, of course, since we’ve had a few bizarre years of movies. It’s all atypical for sure, and this years’s trio of hostesses (Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes) are keeping a handle on it as best they can. At one point, Regina Hall did Covid-19 “patdowns” on Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin, and Rachel Zegler got in a well-deserved zinger, all after Timothée Chalamet stole the red carpet. What of the actual awards though?

There was a weird one. Only a few minutes before Troy Kotsur won Best Supporting Actor for his CODA performance, the so-called Snyder Cut got its, uh, due. Yes, Zack Snyder’s Justice League was singled out as the most popular selection for “Oscar Cheer Moment.” Indeed, The Flash doing his Speed Force thing actually blared on the big screen. Pretty surreal stuff.

Naturally, there was a lot of WTF-type reactions to be had. A real mix went down, too, from the rabid Snyder funs celebrating their relative triumph, all the way to people rolling their eyes and doling out mockery.

Seriously, our brains are all a little bit frazzled after the past two years, so hey, why not? And the night is still young.

Oscar Presenter Rachel Zegler Couldn’t Resist Zinging The Academy Over Her Very Belated Invitation

What a difference less than a week makes. This time last Sunday, Rachel Zegler — one of the stars of Best Picture nominee West Side Story — was lamenting on Instagram comments about not being invited to the Oscars. A couple days later, suddenly she was going after all. It’s been one of the most talked about parts of a show that was chaotic even before it began (and chaotic when it began, too). And when the young actress found herself presenting an award, she couldn’t help but zing the Academy.

Zegler took the stage alongside excessively tall Euphoria star (and Deep Water player) Jacob Elordi. “I can’t believe we’re here tonight at the Oscars,” Elordi said. “It’s definitely a little scary being up here. Growing up in Australia, I never thought that I would stand on this stage.”

“And I never thought I would be here six days ago,” Zegler added, to huge laughs. “Dreams can come true pretty fast, too.”

When news broke that Zegler had finally been invited, people couldn’t help but drag the Academy for inviting people like Tony Hawk and Shaun White before they did the same for a star of a Best Picture nominee. (The skateboarder and Olympian wound up lording over a gratuitous montage dedicated to Bond films.) But as this year’s three hosts know, making fun of the Oscars during the Oscars telecast is not only kosher but apparently encouraged.

Beyonce Kicked Off The 2022 Oscars By Performing ‘Be Alive’ From ‘King Richard’ At The Compton Tennis Courts

Even before the trailer for King Richard dropped, the Beyhive was buzzing about a potential new Beyonce song in the Venus and Serena Williams biopic. “Be Alive” ended up being pretty much the only new music we got from Bey last year, but it did not disappoint. Like the title suggests, the powerful track glories in the simple pleasure of being alive, and how satisfying it feels to confound expectations when the world is against you.

The song picked up a 2022 nomination from the Oscars for Best Original Song after initially being shortlisted by the selection committee, and rumors were swirling last week that Bey would actually perform the song during the awards show tonight, but would do so from the Compton tennis courts named after the Williams sisters.

And that’s exactly how the show’s planners chose to open tonight, with a glowing Beyonce clad all in yellow, surrounded by plenty of other dancers — some even rocking the signature hair beads that defined Venus and Serena’s early looks as players. This is the first time Beyonce has performed at an awards show in almost five years, and she nailed it with an over-the-top spectacle as she always does. Check out clips from her performance below.

Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, And Regina Hall Kicked Off A Highly Unusual Oscars By Roasting Nominees

This year’s Academy Awards were chaotic even before the show began. There was controversy over the telecast gutting a pile of awards. There was the decision to not only bring hosts back after three years without any but hire three of them. Then there’s the possibility that Sean Penn will “smelt” his two Oscars. When the show began, things were even more unusual.

Instead of the show starting, as it often does, with the host(s) doing a bit, it opened with Venus and Serena Williams, two of the subjects of King Richard. Then there was a Beyoncé musical. Then there was DJ Khaled. Then there was a group monologue. Then there was a solo monologue. Then, some 20 minutes into a show that’s not supposed to cross the three hour line, they finally gave out the first (on-air, at least) award, to West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose.

After Beyoncé performed “Be Alive,” her song from King Richard, hosts Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall emerged onto the stage. They fended off a gate-crashing DJ Khaled, and started flinging quips, sometimes at the show’s expense.

“The Academy Awards hired three women to host because it’s cheaper than hiring one man,” Schumer cracked. When they discussed the awards that were handed out before the show, some of them technical trophies, the lights on the stage briefly short-circuited.

Schumer was bound to draw some harsh reactions, and there were huge gasps when she made a joke about the most serious part of any Oscars show. “You know what’s in the In Memoriam package? The Golden Globes,” she said, referring to that show going AWOL this year.

There were also digs at political leaders. “This year we saw a frightening display of how toxic masculinity turns into cruelty against women and children,” Hall said. To which Sykes added, “Damn that Mitch McConnell.” (Hall, of course, was referring to The Power of the Dog.)

Eventually they broke up, with Sykes and Hall leaving so Schumer could do her own monologue. She admitted that, having given birth before the pandemic, she didn’t see any of the nominated movies — except for Encanto, which she claimed she watched “109 times” with her young son. She also threw some of the nominated films under the bus.

“After years of Hollywood ignoring women’s stories, this year we finally got a movie about the incredible Williams’ sisters’…dad,” she joked about King Richard. She also stuck it to one of the lowest rated films among the 10 Best Picture nominees. “I guess Academy members Don’t Look Up reviews!” About DiCaprio, she said he’s “don’t so much to fight climate change and leave behind a cleaner, greener planet for his girlfriends.”

Before they broke up, though, Sykes had a little thing to say to those watching in Florida, the site of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill: “We’re gonna have a gay night.”

Timothée Chalamet Showed Up Shirtless To The Oscars, And People Are Feeling ‘Murdered’ And Otherwise Overwhelmed

The Oscars are in full swing with the first full-on red carpet in years. Things are still pretty weird with movies working for a comeback after two years of production and theatrical delays, but it’s coming along, and a trio of hostesses (Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, and Wanda Sykes) will attempt to deliver the goods tonight. The winners are beginning to roll in, and we’ve seen a new trailer for a returning very popular Hulu show, but hey, how did the red carpet go?

Oh, it went splendidly on several notes. There were tons of gorgeous gowns from high-end designers, but then Timothée Chalamet showed up (while sporting a Louis Vuitton suit) and stole the whole night. Here’s video footage of the moment when everyone’s hearts collectively skipped a beat.

This was definitely a thing. Chalamet (who is officially on hand to support Dune) even ended up getting a shoutout from the hosts during the opening monologue, he made such a stir. And it’s difficult to imagine anyone else being able to pull this look off. Let’s just say that the word “murdered” came up, and thank god someone’s trying to bring awards shows back.

Related: Just had to spread the word on this wildness from a few days ago. God bless the Internet.

The ‘Only Murders In The Building’ Season 2 Trailer Finds The Gang Trying To Clear Their Names

Last week there was some good news: Only Murders in the Building would be returning a lot sooner than expected. The Hulu show — with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as amateur sleuths and podcasters in a Dakota-esque Upper West Side apartment building — bowed late last summer and was an instant classic. A second season was quickly greenlit, but there won’t be a huge wait for more. Instead, it’ll be back on June 28, less than a year after its first episode. And even though they’re still filming — one reason why the three couldn’t host this year’s Oscars — there’s already a new trailer.

It finds the gang, now infamous, trying to clear their names, with the media and their neighbors on their case. There are also first glimpses of new cast members Cara Delevingne and Amy Schumer (but not Michael Rapaport, who’s also joined the cast). Here’s the second season’s synopsis, as per a press release:

Following the shocking death of Arconia Board President Bunny Folger, Charles, Oliver & Mabel race to unmask her killer. However, three (unfortunate) complications ensue – the trio is publicly implicated in Bunny’s homicide, they are now the subjects of a competing podcast, and they have to deal with a bunch of New York neighbors who all think they committed murder.

You can watch the trailer in the video above.

UNC Ended Saint Peter’s Miraculous Run To Set Up A Final Four Showdown With Duke

Saint Peter’s run to the Elite Eight was nothing short of spectacular, as the Peacocks took down Kentucky, Murray State, and Purdue to earn a shot at North Carolina on Sunday. All tournament, Saint Peter’s had done a great job of setting the tone early, but on this night in Philadelphia, it was the Tar Heels that asserted their dominance from the jump and never relented.

UNC took a 9-0 lead out of the gates and while the Peacocks would settle in briefly after that, cutting the lead to 12-7, the size and speed of the Tar Heels simply overwhelmed Saint Peter’s from the jump, flying around on defense to bother Peacock shooters, who found themselves hurrying just to get looks off.

On the offensive end, it was Caleb Love and Brady Manek who got it going to open up a massive halftime lead for North Carolina. Love had 12 of his points in the first half, creating great looks for himself and his teammates.

Manek, meanwhile, found the stroke from three-point range as he’s shown off all tournament on his way to a 19-point night, and Armando Bacot was a force in the paint that the Peacocks had no answers for on the glass, piling up 22 rebounds (including 15 in the first half) to go along with 20 points.

Ultimately, the Heels coasted to a 69-49 win and set up the first ever meeting in the men’s tournament with rival Duke in the Final Four, which will be the late game on Saturday night in New Orleans on TBS, with storylines galore for what Carolina fans will hope is a second chance to spoil Coach K’s final season after dominating Duke in his last home game.
