All The Movie- And TV Show-Themed Attractions Coming To The Disney Theme Parks Announced At D23

avengers ride
Disney Experiences

This past weekend was D23, Disney’s fan event that previews the many, many, many projects the company is currently working on. We already covered the entertainment side of things, including the Lilo & Stitch live-action remake, Avatar 3‘s official title, and Nine Inch Nails providing the music for Tron: Ares — now it’s time for the theme parks. Here’s everything we learned about all the movie- and TV show-themed attractions coming to (and with apologies to the international parks) California’s Disneyland and Florida’s Disney World.

Disneyland

Avatar

Disney Experiences

Disney World has an Avatar-themed land, the majestic Pandora – The World of Avatar. Soon, Disneyland will, too. “We are taking our guests to a whole new location on Pandora,” Ali Rubinstein, the vice president of Creative Development of Walt Disney Imagineering, told the D23 crowd. “As you know, our land in Florida is set in a rainforest amongst the floating mountains, which feels like we’re stepping into the first Avatar film. For our new destination we are inspired by the second movie and the upcoming Fire and Ash and future Avatar films. It will be at a scale and at a level that is worthy of these epic stories.” Give us a Tulkun walk-around character and we’ll be satisfied, although the “intense and emotional” new water ride sounds good, too.

Coco

Disney Experiences

Coco is one of Pixar’s most popular recent films, so it’s a natural fit for the parks. The attraction will take riders to the Land of the Dead and is inspired by classics like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. “We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology,” Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro said. “These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.”

The Mandalorian

Disney Experiences

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is getting a The Mandalorian & Grogu-themed overlay at both the Disneyland and Disney World locations of Galaxy’s Edge. Please do not crash the Falcon into Baby Yoda.

Marvel

Disney Experiences

Avengers Campus will expand with two new attractions: Avengers Infinity Defense (featuring King Thanos) and Stark Flight Lab (featuring the king of the MCU, Robert Downey Jr., reprising his role as Tony Stark / Iron Man).

Disney World

Indiana Jones and Encanto

Disney Experiences

Out goes DinoLand U.S.A. in Animal Kingdom (you will be missed, Dr. Seeker), in comes Indiana Jones and Encanto. The Indy ride will be “a completely new story from any other Indiana Jones attraction we have in the world,” said Bruce Vaughn, Disney’s head of Imagineering. It’s set in a Mayan temple, one that’s presumably full of snakes. (Dinosaur, the ride that’s going, ahem, extinct, uses the same ride system as Disneyland’s classic Indiana Jones Adventure.) Meanwhile, the Encanto ride-through attraction takes place inside the Casita, where “Antonio has just received his special gift — the ability to communicate with animals — and his room has transformed into a rainforest.” Prepare to have “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” stuck in your head. Again. The renovation is expected to be completed in 2027.

Cars

Disney Experiences

The ever-popular Cars Land — in particular the meticulously themed Radiator Springs Racers — is a highlight of Disneyland’s California Adventure. If you drive 2,5000 miles to the west, possibly including a stretch along Route 66, you’ll end up at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, the future home of two new Cars attractions in Frontierland. One is a “thrilling rally race through the mountains,” while the second ride is more family friendly.

Disney Villains

Disney Experiences

Be prepared… for Villains Land. “This land will be home to the villains that you know and those that you loathe, which means happily-ever-after might feel like a distant dream,” D’Amaro said about the much-anticipated addition to the Magic Kingdom. “It will have two major new attractions, dining, shopping, and so much more fiendish fun for you to explore. This is storytelling on a grand scale that only Disney can deliver, so, be prepared, you poor unfortunate souls. It’s going to be a fearless new vision for what a Disney experience can be.” It’s currently unknown what the attractions will be or even which villains will be included, but is it too much to ask for a Ratigan dark ride? (Probably! But still!)

Monsters Inc.

Disney Experiences

Here’s the good news. A Monsters Inc. land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including a “door coaster” that will be the first suspended roller coaster in any of the Disney parks. “There is so much excitement at Imagineering for the land,” D’Amaro said. Here’s the (possibly) bad news: Disney has yet to announce where in Hollywood Studios the new land will be located, and people are rightly very worried that it could replace Muppet*Vision 3D. A Muppet-less theme park would be a sad sight to see. Mike and Sully would want both to exist. Sam Eagle could go either way.

Adele Is In Love With Raygun, The Viral Olympics Breakdancer: ‘I Can’t Work Out If It Was A Joke’

Raygun Rachael Gunn 2024 Olympics
Getty Image

Perhaps the most unexpected story of the 2024 Olympics was Rachael Gunn, who is better known as Raygun. The Australian competed as a breakdancer at the Olympics and her unconventional routine has brought her viral fame. Among Gunn’s new admirers is Adele, who took some time out of a concert to talk about her.

While performing in Munich, Germany on August 10 (as Billboard notes), Adele said (check out the video here), “I have to ask you, because it’s all that me and my friends have been talking about, last night after the show and today. And I’m not saying anything, I think it’s the best thing that’s happened in the Olympics the entire time. Did anyone see the breakdancing lady?”

After some laughter from the audience, Adele continued, “Now I didn’t even know that breakdancing was even an Olympic sport. I think that’s f*cking fantastic.”

She then asked her band members if they had seen Gunn and added, “I can’t work out if it was a joke, but either way, it has made me very, very happy, and me and my friends have been sh*tting ourselves laughing for 24 hours. I just wanted to know if you’ve seen it. If you haven’t seen it, please leave the show and Google it because it is LOLs! It is so f*cking funny. Anyway, it’s my favorite thing that’s happened in Olympics this whole, whole time.”

Gunn, who had some prior experience in competitive breakdancing but scored no points for her Olympics performance, said of her showing:

“All my moves are original. Creativity is really important to me. I go out there and I show my artistry. Sometimes it speaks to the judges, and sometimes it doesn’t. I do my thing, and it represents art. That is what it is about. What I wanted to do was come out here and do something new and different and creative — that’s my strength, my creativity.

I was never going to beat these girls on what they do best, the dynamic and the power moves, so I wanted to move differently, be artistic and creative, because how many chances do you get in a lifetime to do that on an international stage? I was always the underdog and wanted to make my mark in a different way.”

All The Best New Music From This Week That You Need To Hear

bnm
Getty Image/Derrick Rossignol

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Latto, Chlöe, and others launch fresh eras. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

For more music recommendations, check out our Listen To This section, as well as our Indie Mixtape and Pop Life newsletters.

Latto — “Squeeze” Feat. Megan Thee Stallion

Latto and Megan Thee Stallion have become musical buds in recent years, linking up on Meg’s “Budget” and Latto’s “Sunday Service” remix. Now they’ve reunited on another Latto tune, this time the sultry “Squeeze” from her new album Sugar Honey Iced Tea.

Chlöe and Halle — “Want Me”

Chloe and Hally Bailey have gone their separate ways musically, but that doesn’t mean the Chloe X Halle duo is against working together, as the sisters proved by reuniting on Chlöe’s “Want Me.” Uproxx’s Aaron Williams describes the song as “a wistful track that finds the duo pondering one of life’s most relatable phenomena (‘Why is it the ones we don’t want that want us?’) over a downtempo beat composed of a simple guitar loop complimented by finger snaps.”

Beabadoobee — “Beaches”

One of Uproxx’s most anticipated albums of the rest of the year is here (Latto is also on that list, by the way). Beabadoobee’s This Is How Tomorrow Moves dropped today and it’s filled with highlights like the anthemic pop-rocker “Beaches.”

Asake and Travis Scott — “Active”

Nigerian star Asake just dropped his third album, Lungu Boy, and he branched outside of his native country to recruit Travis Scott for “Active.” As the title suggests, it’s a super fun tune that sees the two getting out there and making things happen.

J Balvin and Feid — “Doblexxó”

J Balvin told Uproxx of his new album Rayo, “This is an era full of joy. This is an era where I am making music for myself, remembering those beginnings that pushed me to be what we are today, and I’m happy to share this with the world alongside a new generation of very talented artists. This era is pa’ la cultura [for the culture].”

Polo G — “Darkside”

At long last, after a series of delays, Polo G’s HOOD POET (now an acronym for “He Overcame Obstacles During Pain Or Emotional Trauma”) finally dropped. The rapper celebrated with a video for “Darkside,” a personal number that sees him reflecting on some of his struggles.

Kali Uchis — “Simple”

After impressing with her Orquídeas album at the top of 2024, Uchis has returned to that universe and expanded it with Orquídeas Parte 2. The deluxe edition adds some new songs, including the smooth “Simple.”

NIKI — “Buzz”

NIKI has been teasing her new album Buzz for the past few months now, and she’s been putting out terrific vibes with advance singles like “Too Much Of A Good Thing.” The full album is here and there are vibes aplenty, like on the lofi title track.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard — “Mirage City”

On any given week, there’s a decent chance that King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard just put out a new album. The Australian rockers have put out so many albums since 2012: Last week’s Flight b741 is their 26th LP. This time, the band is leaning into blues-rock, as can be heard on the throwback-sounding opening track “Mirage City.”

Ravyn Lenae — “Genius”

Getting a co-sign from Childish Gambino is a strong indicator that R&B rising force Ravyn Lenae is worth your New Music Friday time. The just-released Bird’s Eye is her second album, and it’s led by songs like the dreamy and groovy “Genius.”

When (And Where) Will ‘It Ends With Us’ Be On Streaming?

it-ends-with-us-10-lg
Sony

It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and director Justin Baldoni, performed well enough over opening weekend that a sequel seems inevitable. If that happens, Baldoni curiously doesn’t seem interested in the gig, but for now, he can bask in box-office glory because after this film and Anyone But You, audiences have demonstrated that they are (at least selectively) ready to buy tickets for romcoms again.

Like the above-mentioned film starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell (and No Hard Feelings starring Jennifer Lawrence), It Ends With Us happens to be a Sony movie, so the streaming window and service are simple to predict.

When (And Where) Will It Ends With Us Be On Streaming?

Sony Pictures has an ongoing agreement with Netflix for exclusive streaming rights for recent theatrical releases after 120 days. That means that, as with the aforementioned movies, you’ll be able to access It Ends With Us on Netflix at around the four-month mark, which will put the streaming release date somewhere in mid-December.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Sony usually only drops these particular movies on ad-free plans to begin. That plan could change at any point, but it’s safest to plan on It Ends With Us (based upon the Colleen Hoover book of the same name) debuting on only ad-free plans when it comes to Netflix.

Nike Dropped An Incredible Ad To Celebrate USA Women’s Basketball Winning Another Gold

diana taurasi

It wasn’t easy, but the United States women’s basketball team won a gold medal for the eighth Olympics in a row on Sunday. The Americans took on France in Paris with a gold medal on the line, and while they struggled to get into a rhythm on offense, the U.S. defense proved too much for France to handle, and as a result, the team picked up a 67-66 win.

Despite the American dominance in the sport — the win marked their 61st in a row at the Olympics — Sunday gave fans a championship game worthy of the occasion. And in the aftermath of the win, Nike dropped a new ad to celebrate the United States that is absolutely spectacular.

“It’s inspiring when we think about it,” Diana Taurasi says in the voiceover for the ad. “Every four years, teams come from around the world to compete … for second place.”

The ad ends with a simple phrase: Winning isn’t for everyone. Taurasi, of course, is a very notable exception to this, as the Phoenix Mercury guard took home her sixth Olympic gold as a member of the team this time around. Her sixth medal broke a tie with Sue Bird and Teresa Edwards for the most for one individual in Olympic basketball history.

These Are Snoop Dogg’s Best Moments Of The 2024 Olympics

Snoop Dogg 2024 Olympics
Getty Image

The United States just wrapped up an exceptional run at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The US walked away from the games tied with China for the most gold medals (with 40), and well ahead of the pack for most total medals (126 to China’s 91).

Perhaps the biggest star of the Olympics, though, was Snoop Dogg. The rapper, simply, was everywhere as part of NBC’s broadcast team. Now that the Olympics have officially come and gone, let’s take a look at some of the best moments of Snoop’s time in France.

Carrying The Torch

Snoop had the honor of being an official torchbearer before the games began. As he tends to do, he had a hell of a time. Fans also had fun with the moment on social media, as they couldn’t help but come through with torch jokes, mostly either suggesting Snoop use the fire to light a blunt, or comparing the torch itself to one.

Simone Biles’ mom

At one point, Snoop had to confront a demon from his past (check out the video here). Of course, it was low-stakes, but funny: Simone Biles’ mother hilariously called Snoop out for blowing her off one time years ago, and everybody had a good laugh.

The Louvre

When in Paris, you have to visit the Louvre, one of the world’ most famous museums. Snoop did just that and did everything from calling himself Mona Lisa’s twin brother Tony Lisa to actually noticing subtle differences in art.

Gin & Juice

Snoop went viral a few years ago for his love of equestrian dressage, so of course, NBC didn’t let this year’s Olympics go by without getting Snoop’s thoughts on some horses. This year, a horse named Gin & Juice competed, and Snoop, naturally, was delighted to no end.

Swimming

Snoop didn’t just watch sports, as he found some time to try one out: Swimming. He swam with Michael Phelps, and Snoop quickly learned that swimming is more challenging than it looks. Perhaps the most impressive person in this situation, though, was whoever managed to get all of Snoop’s hair into a swim cap.

Closing Ceremony

The Olympics officially wrapped up yesterday (August 11), and while Snoop was largely a fish out of water during the games, he was in more comfortable territory when he performed during the closing ceremony (technically, his pre-taped performance from California took place on August 10). He had one last surprise, too, bringing out Dr. Dre to perform “The Next Episode.”

Lisa Explains How Blackpink Music Videos Made Her Feel Comfortable Starring In ‘The White Lotus’

lisa

Lisa is making her acting debut in one of the best shows on TV. No pressure! The Blackpink singer will play a still-unknown character in season 3 of HBO’s The White Lotus, which was filmed in Thailand.

“Oh my God, Mike White? I think he’s a genius,” Lisa (who will be credited as Lalisa Manobal) told Elle during an interview before sharing her reaction when she got the part. “I think I cried. I was with my friends, my mom’s friends, and my mom as well, but I didn’t tell them that I auditioned for it. I’m super excited and nervous, because it’s my first acting project. So I was happy for a second, and then I was like, ‘Oh, wait, wait, how am I going to deliver this?’”

Lisa (who is already doing her part to promote the show) quickly found her confidence when she realized filming The White Lotus isn’t dissimilar to shooting music videos, whether with Blackpink or her solo career.

“It’s pretty new to me, but I think it’s similar to shooting music videos… I’m excited for my fans to see it,” she said.

Lisa will be joined in the cast by Goggins, Carrie Coon, Natasha Rothwell, Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, and Scott Glenn, among many others. The White Lotus season 3 premieres in 2025.

Chappell Roan Calls Out The VIPs At Her Outside Lands Set For Being ‘Too Cool’ To Have Fun

Chappell Roan‘s world domination continued this weekend as she played for another massive crowd at the Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco. There were pink cowboy hats as far as the eye could see, with the apparent exception of all the way up front.

Roan called out the VIP section for paying thousands of dollars to not dance. “It’s so weird that VIP thinks they’re so way too cool to do this!” she said before performing “Hot To Go!” on the song’s one-year anniversary (which she celebrated by wearing the sparkly blue outfit from the music video). Roan then yelled “you’re not fun!” while the non-VIP crowd screamed along with her.

You can watch that moment here.

Outside Lands had a lineup of heavy hitters, including Sabrina Carpenter (who performed with Kacey Musgraves), Post Malone, and Kaytranada. But Allen Scott, president of concerts and festivals for Outside Lands producer Another Planet Entertainment, told the San Fransisco Chronicle that 50,000 of the festival’s 75,000 attendees “showed up for Roan alone” on Sunday. Below, you’ll find the setlist they — even the VIPs — were treated to.

Chappell Roan’s Outside Lands Setlist

1. “Femininomenon”
2. “Naked In Manhattan”
3. “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl”
4. “Hot To Go!”
5. “After Midnight”
6. “Casual”
7. “The Subway”
8. “Red Wine Supernova”
9. “Good Luck, Babe!”
10. “My Kink Is Karma”

Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, And More (Including Some Surprise Guests) Perform For The 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony

Days ahead of the 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony yesterday (August 11), there were reports of who would be performing (beyond previously announced acts), and the list included Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Well, the reports ended up being true, as the world learned last night.

The festivities kicked off at Stade de France, and among the performers there was Phoenix, who called upon a number of guests for their set, including Kavinsky, VannDa, Air, and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig. Later, HER performed the United States National Anthem.

Then, there was a series of performances from Long Beach, California, which were pre-taped on August 10. There, Snoop busted out a setlist featuring (per setlist.fm) “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” “The Next Episode” alongside Dr. Dre, “Gin And Juice,” and “What’s My Name” (check out a video here).

At another point, RHCP hit the beach for “Can’t Stop” and “Eddie” (video), while Eilish (with Finneas, of course) played “Birds Of A Feather” and “The Greatest” (video).

It was a good showing from the United States, and that was the case for the actual Olympic events themselves. By the time all the medals had been handed out, the US had secured the most with 126 in total while tying with China for the most gold medals, with 40.
