Taylor Hawkins’ Heart Reportedly Weighed Twice As Much As The Average Heart

As days have passed since the untimely death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, some details about his health have surfaced. It was reported before his death, an ambulance was called to his hotel in Colombia due to chest pains. Colombian officials later reported Hawkins had ten substances in his system at the time of his death.

Now, another report about the drummer’s physical condition has surfaced: Evening Standard reports Hawkins’ heart weighed “at least 600 grams,” as was discovered during an autopsy. For reference, that’s about twice as much as would be expected: A 2012 study found the average weight of an adult male human heart was 331 grams, based on hearts from 232 “healthy men” aged 18 to 35 years old. That’s consistent with many other sources, which put the average weight of a male human heart at about 300 grams.

Furthermore, according to Matthew Zinn, Shawn West, and Bernhard Kuhn (of Children’s Hospital Of Pittsburgh Of UPMC in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), “In adults, the upper limit of normal for heart mass has been defined by postmortem examination as approximately 500 g, also known as the critical heart mass.” Hawkins’ heart was significantly above that upper limit.

Evening Standard also notes that according to a report from “respected Colombian news magazine Semana,” “Investigators have concluded the 50-year-old suffered cardiovascular collapse after binging on a cocktail of drugs. […] It also said authorities had confirmed to them the famed musician had overdosed on heroin mixed with antidepressants and benzodiazepines, which are psychoactive drugs known as benzos.”

Is This The Year Of Olivia Rodrigo? ‘Obsessed’ Previews The 2022 Grammys

The 2022 Grammys are right around the corner and this year sees a number of major changes to the ceremony. Along with being postponed and moved from LA to Las Vegas, the Recording Academy expanded the number of nominees to ten in all four of their major categories; Album Of The Year, Best New Artist, Song Of The Year, and Record Of The Year.

More nominees mean more great music to choose from, and that’s why the latest episode of Obsessed has hosts Taylour Chanel and Hollis Wong-Wear walking us through each major category and sharing who they think should win. The pair kick things off by talking about how this year’s Grammys will most likely be dominated by Olivia Rodrigo, who is expected win big.

Though Rodrigo could sweep the major categories, there are still a number of very deserving artists nominated this year. Taylour and Hollis shout out their personal favorites this year, like Silk Sonic’s groovy “Leave The Door Open” and Doja Cat’s undeniable bop “Kiss Me More.”

The Grammys may have nominated more artists this year, but there are still some glaring omissions from the list. Something we explore while noting the lack of talented international artists like BTS and Bad Bunny. This before diving into a conversation about the Grammys’ current cultural impact and what the future of the awards ceremony might look like.

Watch the latest episode of Obsessed above.

Some of the artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Arlo Parks Delivered A Woozy Cover Of Kaytranada And Syd’s ‘You’re The One’

Spotify loves to give rising artists a look with their Spotify Singles program, and this year they’re highlighting Best New Artist nominees at the Grammys in an interesting way. The premise is that each Best New Artist nominee will do a cover from the discography of a past nominee, adding their own twist and getting their name out into the ether again, whether they win or lose on the big night. For instance, earlier this month Finneas covered Bon Iver’s “Flume” for his contribution. But keep in mind, losing in this category is just as likely to predict a fruitful career as winning in it!

Anyway, Arlo Parks is a nominee this year, and she decided to cover Kaytranada and Syd’s “You’re The One” for her contribution to Spotify Singles. “Why it was such a joy to record my Spotify Singles session in the studio, I felt somehow part of the legend,” Parks said in a statement about the cover. “Syd’s voice in ‘You’re The One’ always had this effortless beauty to it in my eyes and I wanted to cover it to expose the romance and yearning behind the lyrics. It was an honour to be able to sing my new song ‘Softly’ too, to highlight the beginning of a new and beautiful chapter in my career and celebrate being nominated for Best New Artist.”

Check out Arlo’s cover below, and tune into the Grammys this Sunday, April 3, to see who picks up a win in this coveted category.

Is Moon Knight A Hero Or Villain?

While the first look at Marvel’s Moon Knight shows Oscar Isaac characters doing your typical superhero things like leaping from rooftops and pummeling bad guys, there’s also an element of horror to the character who does have a mummy-like appearance and is notably haunted by a terrifying Egyptian deity. Marvel also recently revealed that Moon Knight will sport different costumes just like in the comics. While audiences were first shown his more heroic look complete with a flowing cape and moonarangs, Moon Knight also has been shown in a dapper white suit that gives the character a more devious, methodical look.

This version of Moon Knight seems more interested in, uh, surgically retrieving information from his assailants than punching it out of them à la Batman.

All of this raises the question: Is Moon Knight a hero or a villain? The most simple answer is that, of course, Moon Knight is a hero. In the comics, he often served on The Avengers and has repeatedly done battle with the forces of evil. That said, his methods can be often intense, if not outright unhinged, depending on which of his varying identities are in action, which puts Moon Knight in the more nebulous category of anti-hero. Granted, Moon Knight is not as far deep into that category as The Punisher, who’s gun-heavy methods have routinely put him odd with almost every Marvel hero. But when you’re serving the bidding of an Egyptian moon god — or thwarting said bidding — things tend to get messy.

Let’s just say, while his intentions may ultimately be good, Moon Knight is more concerned with the supernatural task at hand than worrying about the law or how his actions might look to people who haven’t been brought back from the dead by an ancient deity.

Marvel’s Moon Knight premieres March 30 on Disney+.

Every Song Off Cardi B’s ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ Has Gone Platinum, Setting An Impressive Record

Cardi B is popular. She’s popular with the hip-hop heads because she’s got real bars peppered all over her debut album, Invasion Of Privacy. She’s popular with pop fans, because she knows how to turn out a hook like almost nobody else. She’s popular with moms, because she’s a mom, and she’s popular with young women because of the way she speaks her mind and never backs down from the haters. In other words, pretty much everyone on the planet has found a reason to love this woman, that’s just how charismatic she is. So it’s not really actually that surprising that she’s once again set the kind of record that no one else has achieved yet.

Every single song off Cardi’s debut album, Invasion Of Privacy, has now gone platinum. So for anyone who wanted to claim back in the day that “Bodak Yellow” was just a one-hit wonder, well, it’s quite the opposite; in fact, every single song this woman has put out is a hit. When the news broke, Cardi tweeted about it, and let listeners know that she is still working on her long-awaited follow-up project. “AMAZING ….can’t wait for my second album. We can’t wait for that second album, either! Hopefully we get an update soon.

Who Is Moon Knight?

When it comes to Marvel superheroes, Moon Knight has never had the same name recognition as heavy-hitters like Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, etc. But as Marvel Studios has shown, it has a knack for taking obscure titles and turning into them powerhouse franchises. Heck, before Chris Pratt made his debut as Star-Lord, the Guardians of the Galaxy was basically a little-known space comic from the ’70s that was briefly retooled in the mid-2000s. (See, also: Eternals.)

With Oscar Isaac primed to bring Moon Knight to Disney+ for a six-part live-action series, we’ll walk you through the basics for the characters, but keep in mind, Marvel is almost certainly making some creative choices that will differ from the Moon Knight comics.

After being left for dead in the desert, mercenary Mark Spector is brought back to life by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, turning Spector into Moon Knight. As a high priest, he’s tasked with protecting travelers of the night from evil, which he carries out through brutal vigilante justice aided by mystical powers. However, Spector also suffers from Dissociative Personality Disorder. He has at least three distinct personas (and over 10 in the comics), who are completely unaware of what the other is doing and often leads to some complications in doing Khonshu’s bidding as well as making Moon Knight hard to work with. While he has been a member of The Avengers at time, his split personalities do not go over well with the other heroes.

In the comics, one of Spector’s personalities is millionaire Steven Grant. However, as you can see in the featurette for the series below, Steven Grant is a lowly British clerk who will serve as the introductory character into the chaotic world of Moon Knight as he’s forced to contend with Ethan Hawke‘s mysterious villain.

Moon Knight premieres March 30 on Disney+.

Will Smith Partied To ‘Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It’ After Slapping Chris Rock At The Oscars

Truth be told, part of what made Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during last night’s Oscars ceremony so shocking is that, since his beginnings as a rapper, Smith has put on something of a nice-guy persona. Even his biggest hit ever, “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It,” is a lighthearted dance floor anthem, which runs contrary to many folks’ perceptions of hardcore, mean-mugging hip-hop tough guys — even if Smith himself is from the same streets as them.

It seems, though, that even his out-of-character moment couldn’t stop him from enjoying his night after winning the award for Best Actor for his performance in King Richard. After the ceremony was over, Smith attended the Vanity Fair afterparty, where he celebrated his first-ever win — and what better song to soundtrack the celebration than his massive 1997 hit?

Still, despite Will securing his first Oscar, all anyone can talk about is the moment that preceded his win. Naturally, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences issued a statement condemning Smith’s actions at the ceremony, while a number of celebrities weighed in, including some of Smith’s fellow rappers, Stephen A. Smith, Rami Malek, Howard Stern, and the hosts of The View. However, according to Diddy, “it’s all love” between will and Chris Rock, who reportedly declined to press charges.

Check out the video of Smith dancing with his award to his own big hit above.

Before Billie Eilish And Finneas Were Even Attached To ‘No Time To Die,’ Finneas Got Advice From Other Bond Songwriters

Billie Eilish and Finneas had a big night at the Academy Awards yesterday, as they performed their James Bond theme “No Time To Die” and picked up the Oscar for Best Original Song award for that song. Eilish and Finneas have previously spoken about what the Bond franchise and its music has meant to them, and for years, they’ve been hoping for the chance to be a part of the franchise. Finneas was so aspirational, in fact, that he says he reached out to previous Bond theme songwriters for advice, even before he and his sister were officially attached to No Time To Die.

In a post-Oscars interview, the siblings were asked if they got advice from other artists who won Oscars for their Bond songs, like Adele (“Skyfall”) or Sam Smith (“Writing’s On The Wall” from Spectre). Finneas responded:

“I talked to [‘Writing’s On The Wall’ co-writer] Jimmy Napes and Sam [Smith] both when we were hoping we’d be given the opportunity to write a James Bond theme. And I just asked what the process was like. Again, it was such an ambition of ours. It was really just, like, picking their brains about it. It was really interesting to hear their take on it. They were very encouraging and gave really good advice, which was basically to make a song we were really proud of.”

Eilish expanded on the latter part of that answer in her response to another question, saying, “I think the biggest challenge was making sure that it felt to us… what’s the word… authentic, but also…” As Eilish tried to articulate her thoughts, Finneas jumped in and said, “It was really important to us that it felt like a Billie Eilish song and a James Bond song at the same time, and not one or the other.”

Check out the interview here.
