Real-Life (And Fictional) Vampire Jared Leto Won’t Share His Secrets To Aging Well, So Stop Asking

Jared Leto is known for being just a generally weird guy who also stars in the occasional hit film, and the occasional flop. And he was also in House Of Gucci. But whenever he has to promote a film, he emerges with a whole new personality that makes him more mysterious than whoever Jared Leto was before. This time, he’s promoting two projects: WeCrashed and Morbius, so he is truly all over the place here.

In a new interview with Men’s Health, Leto proved to be even more of an enigma, speaking at length about his passion for rock climbing and stomach ulcers. The 50-year-old also refused to share his skincare secrets, after the internet frequently discusses what appears to be his eternal youth.

Yes, Leto is 50, though he does for some reason look like he’s in his thirties. Perhaps it’s the silent retreats he frequently takes in the desert, or maybe he really sacrificed himself to the Met Gala Gods. We may literally never know since he refuses to give up any information. When asked about his youthful look, Leto says, “I do have a good answer for that, but I probably won’t tell you. Just to keep everybody guessing. Really, honestly, at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter.”

It might not matter to him, but it matters to a lot of eager fans.

Maybe he is just getting really into character for Morbius, his first Marvel movie (despite being a ‘film snob’) or maybe he just got enough hate for his House Of Gucci getup that he decided to embrace his natural, ageless face. Leto is aware of the way he looks, and the importance of looks seems to baffle him.

“I gained over 60 pounds for a role once, and it was amazing,” the actor explains, “I remember asking someone for the time in New York and they, like, recoiled. I saw people I knew who didn’t know I was filming and thought I had fallen off the—I don’t know how to describe it—that I had ‘not been taking care of myself.’ They took it as a sign of something wrong in my life. It was a really wild thing to experience that.”

To be fair, they probably recoiled because it was Jared Leto asking them for the time. But, his point still stands–most people tend to be overly observant, or overly critical, of celebrities’ looks. Maybe Leto just has good genes, or maybe he really did make a deal with a devil while he was wandering around the desert in March 2020. Who knows, but don’t expect him to tell you.

Sasha Alex Sloan Sings In The Face Of An Existential Crisis In The Flaming ‘WTF’ Video

Last year, we tapped Sasha Sloan as a pop star to watch, and now, equipped with a slight name change, she’s well on her way to having a massive 2022. Now going formally by Sasha Alex Sloan, the singer-songwriter is following up like collaborations with Charlie Puth (on an alternate version of “Is It Just Me?”) and Sam Hunt (“When Was It Over?“) by dropping a brand new full-length album.

That record, I Blame The World, will be out May 13, following up her debut album, Only Child, that dropped back in 2020. And though her songs can lean nihilistic, Sloan’s writing style is definitely relatable for a generation raised during climate change and the sometimes terrifying advances of technology and social media. The lead single for the album is directly in that same vein, dubbed “WTF,” and including the opening line “Sometimes I got a hard time seeing the point to existing.”

In the video for the clip, Sasha sits frozen in an armchair while a hot iron slowly but surely sets fire to a piece of clothing behind her, and then her entire apartment. In the midst of the flames, Sasha calmly gets up, gets a drink of water, and returns to sit back down amid the flames. Ironically, her reason for being here seems to be getting the chance to sing and perform, because despite the nihilism her talent is very evident. Check out the somewhat depressing video up top if you’re in a gloomy Monday mood, and keep an ear out for more new singles dropping before her album comes out in May.

I Blame The World will be released 5/13 via RCA Records. Pre-order it here.

Pusha T’s New Arby’s Jingle Ruthlessly Disses McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish

Pusha T is no stranger to to the fast food jingle scene. News surfaced in 2016 that he was behind McDonald’s ubiquitous “I’m Lovin’ It!” song which first appeared in 2003. Now, nearly two decades later, King Push — who recently dropped the track “Diet Coke” with Kanye West — has come over to the dark side, so to speak, and has just penned the new “Spicy Diss Fish Track” for Arby’s.

The track touts the superiority of Arby’s Spicy Fish sandwich to that of McDonald’s time-honored Filet-O-Fish as Pusha T ruthlessly dismantles the Mickey D’s sandwich, which first debuted in 1962. “I’m the reason the whole world love it, now I gotta crush it. Filet-O-Fish is sh*t and you should be disgusted,” he raps in the song’s opening bars. He spends much of the track ripping apart the square shaped McDonald’s sandwich and bodies Ronald McDonald in the process. “A little cube of fish from a clown is basic,” he adds, punctuating a verse.

The rapper took to twitter to announce his new…er…collab, saying, “Just dropped a diss track with @Arbys. Grab some popcorn and a Spicy Fish Sandwich. #ArbysSpicyFishDissTrack #ArbysPaidMeButIWouldSayThisAnyway”

On the track, which rides a battle rap beat not too far removed from something out of El-P’s early production library, Push somehow manages to get his sly cocaine rap references past the censors. As the track comes to a close and a ship sinks into the water in the video (symbolizing the demise of the now 60 year old McDonald’s sandwich), Push gets back to his roots and delivers the coke rap death punch, “If you know me and you know me well, our fish is gonna tip that scale!”

Listen to Pusha T’s “Spicy Fish Diss Track” and watch the video above.

Louis C.K. Apparently Gave The ‘Bad Vegan’ Sarma Melngailis An STD And Didn’t Seem Too Concerned About It

The Bad Vegan aka Sarma Melngailis was an A-list vegan chef in New York City before embezzling money from her employees and being labeled with the “Vegan Bernie Madoff” nickname. Her dramatic story is being told in the Netflix docuseries Bad Vegan, which chronicles the rise and fall of her upscale restaurants. But before she was eventually found guilty of tax fraud and larceny, Melngailis had a short-lived relationship with since-disgraced comedian Louis C.K.

In Bad Vegan, Melngailis’ relationship with scammer Anthony Strangis is the main plot of the series, though the vegan chef was linked to a few A-list celebs while working at her world-famous restaurants, including Alec Baldwin. One famous ex is none other than Louis C.K., who allegedly gave Melngailis an STD.

Emails released from 2019 reveal that the comedian did give the Melngailis an STD, and when he was called out by the chef he gave a bizarre response involving glass penises:

hey. I understand you’re upset. This kind of s**t is tough. I never swore that I was clean. I told you I may or may not have given this to you. I’m sorry if I did. If you gave it to me, it’s okay. We all share the current human bloodstream, which includes this kind of stuff. I should have worn a condom, you should have made me, we should have a lot of things. we are human. Our generation has this stuff. the next generation will all be inoculated and will have sex with electric glass penises and digital vaginas and they’ll get software viruses instead. It’s part of life.

C.K. went on to add that “there’s no good tests for guys and even that condoms don’t stop s***.” Anyone who had a seventh-grade health class knows that that is faulty logic. The comedian then wrote an episode of his hit show Louie which had a very similar STD plot.

The incident is what ended the relationship, and the chef pleaded guilty to tax fraud in 2017, months before five women accused Louis C.K. of sexual misconduct.

A ‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Brought ‘Borat’ Vibes And Scored Audience Points Without Even Having To Win

While looking like a Saturday Night Live cast member crashed the set of Jeopardy!, contestant Joel Levinson became an instant viral hit thanks to his Borat-esque appearance and hilarious wrong answers. Naturally, Jeopardy! fans gravitate towards contestants like Amy Schneider who absolutely dominate the competition with their impressive winning streaks, but there was lots of love for Levinson even as he botched answers while yucking it up for the camera.

Even potential full-time host Ken Jennings couldn’t stop himself from laughing when Levinson gave a humorous answer. Via TV Insider:

The highlight, however, came in Final Jeopardy!, when Levinson gave a humorous answer that he obviously knew was incorrect. Answering the clue, “This 1962 classic was dedicated to Albert Schweitzer, who predicted that man ‘will end by destroying the earth.’,” Levinson wrote down Judy Blume’s 1970 novel Are You There God? It’s me, Margaret.

“I’m afraid that’s not correct,” Jennings said with a chuckle.

Considering his day job is a contest strategist, naturally, Levinson made sure to tweet along with his episode, which aired last Thursday. Despite blowing his Final Jeopardy! answer, Levinson was just happy to give a shout-out to Blume.

“Bucket list checked – name checked my beloved @judyblume in final,” Levinson tweeted. “If you’re not gonna know the answer you might as well call to god for help.”

As for Jeopardy! fans, they were absolutely here for watching Levinson basically bring a little Borat to Jeopardy! and liven things up. You can see some of the Joel love below:

‘Riverdale’ Is About Archie And Betty Having Superpowers Now, Apparently

After the very good final season of HBO Max’s Search Party wrapped up, I tried to think of another show that ended further from where it started after abandoning its original premise. Shark jumping in a good way. For instance, Search Party was initially about aimless millennials trying to solve a missing person case; by the series finale, there was a zombie apocalypse and doomsday cults and a character named Dr. Amanda Baby.

That’s a wild swing, but I think Riverdale has it beat.

I’ll admit that I stopped watching the CW series after season two, which is apparently when Riverdale began to embrace its insanity. Oops. Since then, Archie has been part of a prison fight club; Betty joined the FBI after a time jump; Toni turned into the vengeful spirit La Llorona; Jughead faked his own death; and, oh yeah, Archie and Betty are superheroes now. I think those crazy (24-year-old) kids are going to be alright.

I’ll let TVLine (attempt to) explain:

Sunday’s midseason premiere picked up where we left off pre-Rivervale, with Archie and Betty’s newly rekindled romance interrupted by a bomb set by the dastardly Hiram. The explosion decimated Archie’s house, but Archie and Betty were mysteriously unharmed. Then Archie discovered he is suddenly super strong and impervious to pain, and Betty can now see a red glow around bad people before they commit a crime. So the bomb turned them into superheroes?

That is so Hiram. Also, who is Hiram?

Remember when Riverdale was about Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica eating hamburgers at Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe, and the Predator would only occasionally drop by. Now it’s all Predator — and it sounds like it’s better off for it.

Smokin’ Grooves’ Excellent 2022 Festival Proved You Can Have Too Much Of A Good Thing

Seeing the 2022 Smokin’ Grooves lineup was the first time I felt real anxiety about catching everything at a music festival I wanted to. From top to bottom, the flyer was stacked with names I had a real investment in, from artists Uproxx currently covers such as Jhene Aiko, Kamasi Washington, Miguel, and The Roots to nostalgic faves like Angie Stone, Bilal, Macy Gray, and Musiq Soulchild. Needless to say, some executive decisions had to be made; about halfway through the fest, I gave up on the “nostalgic faves” portion of the proceedings after rushing back and forth between the two stages set up at LA’s State Historic Park became untenable. By the time TDE singer SiR hit the Smokin’ Grooves stage, I was pretty much parked there for the duration.

To be fair, this is a great problem for most festivals to have, and as an (ahem) older attendee with investments in many of the newer/younger acts like Uproxx cover star Foushee, I’ll admit my predicament was probably unique among festival-goers, who would usually only have a burning need to see a handful of acts and check out the rest out of curiosity. But Smokin’ Grooves was unique among festivals in that it was really the first time I legitimately wanted to see nearly every act on the bill, which speaks to the focus with which the fest’s organizers put that bill together. While suitably eclectic and diverse covering the breadth of hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and soul, the lineup found that distinctive pocket where all those things co-exist.

Unfortunately, that means that the lineup, jam-packed with back-to-back sets requiring full band setups, was a little crowded, and that caused some fraying at the seams holding everything together. Early in the show, a number of acts on the Smokin’ Grooves stage had microphones cut mid-song as they went over their time. The Jupiter stage seemed to handle the transitions more gracefully, allowing bands to play off as the stage turntable wheeled them around to bring the next act on. Even with these measures in place — and to be clear, I love the use of the turntable to get bands set up and onstage in time for their sets — minor delays built up over the course of the festival, resulting in the headliner Erykah Badu‘s set being cut in half due to sound curfew.

Look, I understand the logistics of putting on such a big event, let alone trying to turn a profit, but having any artists getting cut off is a bad look — especially the headliner. Granted, artists can be… let’s just say “stubborn” about the whole “sticking to their time” thing, as well as the whole “showing up on time” thing. It’s an issue that has existed as long as the recording industry has and will likely exist until it collapses. Since we all know this, though, it might be worth festival organizers looking at and eventually accepting the possibility of putting fewer acts on the bill in hopes of allowing more time for the logistical snags that will pop up no matter how well you plan. Artists also hold some responsibility, as well. If the city sends a citation because you couldn’t be bothered to leave the house 20 minutes early, that’s on you. Finally, and this is more of a personal quibble, it’d be nice if festivals brought back hosts who could keep things moving along and cut down on confusion between sets, even when they’re back-to-back.

But these were minor issues in the grand scheme of things. Smokin’ Grooves wound up being my favorite festival since the return of live events, based almost solely on the lineup and the venue. Aside from some of the less experienced artists, nearly every set was put on by veteran performers who knocked it out of the proverbial park. From Blu and Exile, who smartly stuck to mostly Below The Heavens selections, to Jhene Aiko, who graciously paused her set a few times to help distressed fans in the crowd, the vibes throughout the day were immaculate. So was the sequencing of the main stage; part of the reason I decided to stay there was the incredible build after SiR’s set, with Smino, Thundercat, The Internet, Aiko, The Roots, and Miguel, taking the stage and cranking up the energy with each new act.

Sure, it would have been nice to continue bouncing back and forth to the Jupiter stage — and easy, thanks to the simple, picture-perfect layout of the venue (I know it’s a smaller fest, but I sure would like to see way more events at this park). Slum Village and Dead Prez were truly meaningful to me in high school, while Roy Ayers is a legend and Toro Y Moi always puts on a great show. But as I made my way to the rideshare pick-up zone — a bit of a walk, to be sure, one of the only minor drawbacks to the venue — I could still hear the strains of Kamasi Washington’s sax lulling me back. Even too much of a good thing, it turns, can sometimes leave you wanting more.

Trent Reznor Joins Forces With Danny Elfman Again For His ‘Native Intelligence’ Remix

Last year, composer Danny Elfman teamed up with Nine Inch Nails frontman and the powerhouse of a producer Trent Reznor, who has also been working with Halsey and Health recently. Elfman was churning out remixes of tracks from his recent album Big Mess, so he recruited Xiu Xiu, Zach Hill of Death Grips, and, of course, Reznor for the song “True.”

Today, Elfman is back with another remix with Reznor, this time of the bombastic track “Native Intelligence.” The song is four and a half minutes of pure sensory overload, with layers of culminating, chaotic sounds and disturbingly tactile lyrics: “Taking a bath in cyanide, taking a bath.”

The remix comes from a new collector’s edition box set of Big Mess, which features unreleased collaborations with artists such as Rebekah Del Rio, Fever333, and Blixa Bargeld. It also has a 20-page lyric booklet, an art print signed by Elfman, and a “life-sized light up model of Danny’s peculiar hand.” It’s limited to 1,500 copies. More details can be found here.

Just last month, Nine Inch Nails announced their first tour since late 2018. Their run begins in Raleigh, North Carolina and ends in Cleveland, Ohio, starting next month.

Listen to this newer, crazier version of “Native Intelligence” above.

A New Game In ‘The Witcher’ Franchise Has Been Announced

The Witcher has exploded into one of the most popular franchises in all of gaming. With three mainline games, a TV show, and the books this is a multimedia powerhouse that CD Projekt Red has been able to turn into something even bigger. The video games are beloved with many fans calling The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt one of the best games ever made.

On Monday, new information about the franchise was revealed. A new game in The Witcher franchise has entered development and it will be utilizing a new engine. Unfortunately, that is all we are going to know for the foreseeable future. No timeframe for the game’s release or even a development timeframe was revealed.

This is an exciting moment as we’re moving from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. We’ll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences.

At this point, no further details regarding the game — such as a development time frame or release date — are available.

For now, we’ll just have to assume that the sequel will release once it’s ready. This is for the best, and likely a calculated decision, after CD Projekt Red’s disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
