Sean Penn Flat Out Told Sean Hannity That He Doesn’t Trust Him (Before The Two Had A Civilized Discussion On Ukraine)

Sean Penn recently promised to “smelt” his Academy Awards if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky didn’t make a virtual appearance at the recent ceremony, and there’s been no update there (an appearance didn’t happen). However, the Gaslit star did meet with Zelensky while filming a documentary, and Penn was on the ground when Russia attacked. The actor ended up fleeing to Poland on foot, and now, he’s visiting with Sean Hannity on Fox News.

The interview began awkwardly (as you can see in the above clip, straight off the bat) with Hannity detailing how he’d contacted Penn after hearing about the in-process documentary when war broke out. And then Hannity asked Penn to tell the audience how that conversation started.

Hannity: “Do you remember what you first said to me?”

Penn: “I said that I don’t trust you.”

At that point, Penn elaborated about how he didn’t see the lack of trust as a hurdle. “You know, there are so many people that don’t trust their spouse,” Penn declared. “And yet we have got to get on with life… we have got a situation. I’ve never felt this way about where our country is and what I experienced emotionally in Ukraine, where it had not… we all talk about how divisive things are, how divided things are here.”

The conversation continued quite amicably from there with the two agreeing to disagree on the Biden administration and Penn detailing how he hoped to capture, in his documentary, the unity and the resilience of the Ukrainian people. He also mentioned how he’d originally been captivated by Zelensky’s rise — after portraying an ordinary citizen who accidentally became president in Servant Of The People — and that’s part of why the documentary process began.

Further to the trust point, Penn also discuss how he, as an American, has plenty of “time to indulge my lack of trust, which it becomes a petty thing,” and Ukrainians don’t have that luxury “as people and babies are being vaporized, and that these people are fighting for the very dreams that are the aspiration of all of us Americans.” The entire conversation’s worth watching, and it’s certainly a civilized segment that one rarely sees from opponents on cable news.

Ed Sheeran Speaks After Winning His Copyright Case Over Alleged ‘Shape Of You’ Plagiarism

For years now, Ed Sheeran has been dealing with a copyright case over alleged plagiarism on “Shape Of You.” Now, it’s finally over: This morning’s verdict was ruled in favor of Sheeran, co-writer Johnny McDaid, and producer Steve McCutcheon, NME reports.

In the ruling, Justice Zacaroli declared Sheeran “neither deliberately nor subconsciously” copied a phrase from Sami Switch’s “Oh Why” when writing “Shape Of You.” They also noted that while the song have similarities, “such similarities are only a starting point for a possible infringement” of copyright.

Now that the trial is finally over, Sheeran has spoken out. He said in a minute-long video shared on Instagram a few hours ago:

“Hey guys. Me, Jonny, and Steve have made a joint statement that will be press released on the outcome of this case, but I wanted to make a small video to talk about it a bit because I’ve not really been able to say anything whilst it’s been going on.

While we’re obviously happy with the result, I feel like claims like this are way too common now and have become a culture where a claim is made with the idea that a settlement would be cheaper than taking it to court, even if there’s no base to the claim, is really damaging to the songwriting industry. There’s only so many notes and very few cords used in pop music. Coincidence is bound to happen if 60,000 songs are being released every day on Spotify. That’s 22 million songs a year and there’s only 12 notes that are available.

I don’t want take anything away from the pain and hurt suffered from both sides of this case, but I just want to say I’m not an entity, I’m not a corporation: I’m a human being, I’m a father, I’m a husband, I’m a son. Lawsuits are not a pleasant experience and I hope with this ruling, it means in the future, baseless claims like this can be avoided. This really does have to end.

Me, Johnny, and Steve are very grateful for all the support sent to us by fellow songwriters over the last few weeks. Hopefully we can all get back to writing songs rather than having to prove that we can write them. Thank you.”

As for the statement Sheeran mentioned, read that in full below.

“Here was a lot of talk throughout this case about cost. But there is more than just a financial cost. There is a cost on creativity. When we are tangled up in lawsuits, we are not making music or playing shows.

There is a cost on our mental health. The stress this causes on all sides is immense. It affects so many aspects of our everyday lives and the lives of our families and friends. We are not corporations. We are not entities. We are human beings. We are songwriters. We do not want to diminish the hurt and pain anyone has suffered through this, and at the same time, we feel it is important to acknowledge that we too have had our own hurts and life struggles throughout the course of this process.

There is an impact on both us and the wider circle of songwriters everywhere. Our hope in having gone through all of this, is that it shows that there is a need for a safe space for all songwriters to be creative, and free to express their hearts. That is why we all got into this in the first place. Everyone should be able to freely express themselves in music, in art and do so fearlessly.

At the same time, we believe that there should be due process for legitimate and warranted copyright protection. However, that is not the same as having a culture where unwarranted claims are easily brought. This is not constructive or conducive to a culture of creativity.

We are grateful that Mr. Justice Zacaroli has delivered a clear and considered judgment which supports the position we have argued from the outset. ‘Shape Of You’ is original. We did not copy the Defendants’ song.

We respect the music of those who’ve come before us and have inspired us along the way, whoever they are. We have always sought to clear or to acknowledge our influences and collaborators. It doesn’t matter how successful something appears to be, we still respect it. It is so painful to hear someone publicly, and aggressively, challenge your integrity.

It is so painful to have to defend yourself against accusations that you have done something that you haven’t done and would never do.

We are very grateful for all the messages of love, hope and support we received throughout the course of this case from songwriters everywhere. Thank you also to our publishers, who stood shoulder to shoulder with us at every step of the way. We are privileged to do what we do, and we know that. We want to live in a world where we are free to do what we do, openly and honorably.

While this has been one of the most difficult things we have ever been through in our professional lives, we will continue to stand up against baseless claims, and protect our rights and the integrity of our musical creativity, so we that can continue to make music, always.

Our message to songwriters everywhere is: Please support each other. Be kind to one another. Let’s continue to cultivate a spirit of community and creativity.”

‘The Masked Singer’ Creator Has Defended Rudy Giuliani’s Controversial Appearance On The Show

In February, Deadline reported that Rudy Giuliani would appear in an episode of The Masked Singer this season, prompting a walk-out from judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke. Don’t give the disgraced “Blurred Lines” singer too much credit, though: Thicke only left because “he and Ken are very close friends and he wanted to check on him. Robin didn’t storm out because of Giuliani,” a source told People. That cursed episode still hasn’t aired yet, but with the season finale coming up on May 17, we’re mere days or weeks away from seeing whatever monstrosity Giuliani is “masked” as.

In an interview with Deadline, The Masked Singer creator Wonwoo Park was asked about Giuliani’s appearance on the American adaptation of the South Korean singing competition program. “It would be taboo [in Korea] to have someone controversial or political on the show,” he explained. “But it can’t always be pleasant when the mask comes off and the more Masked Singer seasons [globally] we do, the more we realize you can’t always have contestants that everybody loves.”

So far this season, McTerrier (chef Duff Goldman), Ram (announcer Joe Buck), Cyclops (Lost star Jorge Garcia), Thingamabob (Philadelphia Eagles tackle Jordan Mailata), and Lemur (model Christie Brinkley) have been unmasked, leaving Armadillo, Baby Mammoth, Firefly, Hydra, Jack in the Box, Miss Teddy, The Prince, Ram, Ringmaster, Space Bunny, and Queen Cobra. My money’s on Rudy being Jack in the Box: he’s a clown who pops up when you least expect him to, and it’s never a good time.

Jimmy Kimmel Is Amused That Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Going Around Accusing People Of Being ‘Pro-Pedophile’ While She Pals Around With Accused Sex Trafficker Matt Gaetz

It’s hard to give much credence to the words that come out of Marjorie Taylor Greene’s mouth. This, after all, a person who has regularly spewed utterly insane QAnon conspiracy theories and recently taken to viciously attacking Disney for “sexualizing children,” while also being a Disney stockholder. In fact, pedophilia accusations are one of the Georgia congresswoman’s go-to tactics, which Jimmy Kimmel can’t help but find to be rather curious.

On Tuesday night, Kimmel talked about a recent tweet sent by Greene in which she accused Republican senators Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and Mitt Romney of being “pro-pedophile” after the trio broke with party lines and voted to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court nomination, paving the way to victory.

Kimmel’s immediate reaction to Greene’s tweet was: “Wow, where is Will Smith when you really need him?”

In Kimmel’s eyes, it’s all painfully hypocritical of Greene, who is regularly seen teaming up and palling around with Matt Gaetz, who has been accused of having sex with a minor and is currently under federal investigation for his alleged ties to a sex-trafficking ring.

“Besides [the tweet] being disgusting, this woman is good pals with Matt Gaetz, who is currently under investigation for trafficking minors for sex,” Kimmel said. “It’s Scum and Scummer.”

Greene’s issue with Jackson stems from the judge sentencing a gay 18-year-old teen to three months in prison for viewing images of other gay teens, some of whom were not yet 18 years old, online. Despite the fact that the young men in the photos were all close to the 18-year-old in age, Greense views it as clear case of pedophilia, which would make Jackson a pedophile sympathizer.

Jon Batiste Breaks Down His Confused Reaction To Winning The 2022 Grammy For Album Of The Year

Last weekend’s Grammy Awards were relatively tame when it came to surprises, as most of the award winners didn’t seem completely unexpected. Of course, there was one major exception, as Jon Batiste’s We Are won Album Of The Year over projects by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, HER, Lil Nas X, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and Kanye West. Batiste himself looked surprised when he won, holding a confused expression and a shrug for a good while before approaching the stage.

The Late Show bandleader returned to his show last night for the first time since the Grammys, where he broke down his response to his big win in a conversation with Stephen Colbert.

He started with context, noting the day was busy for him, since he was nominated for 11 awards, both during the pre-show and the televised ceremony. On top of that, he performed during the broadcast, too. So, by the time the show as coming to an end, Batiste said he was ready to just chill out.

Colbert showed the clip of Batiste’s reaction and commented, “The most surprised person in that room might be you.” Batiste responded, “Oh yeah.”

Batiste continued by noting the people seated at the tables around him, including Billie Eilish and Finneas, had a good supportive energy, saying, “Well, at least everybody’s going to be on a good vibe. Whoever wins, we’ll be all just clapping for this person. It won’t be me. And then they said, ‘We…’ And the people were so loud. It was so loud that I almost didn’t really know it was me because they didn’t say my name until after the title. I was like, ‘Maybe that’s somebody else’s album that sounds like We Are [laughs].”

Watch The Trailer For Killer Mike’s New Weed Docu-Series ‘Tumbleweeds,’ Dropping Just In Time For 4/20

4/20 is on the horizon and as you gear up with some great weed and good snacks to enjoy on the big day, don’t forget you’re going to need some content to watch while you relax and roll up. Enter Killer Mike’s new four-part docuseries, Tumbleweeds.

Made in collaboration with Weedmaps and premiering on Vice TV, Tumbleweeds finds Killer Mike exploring cannabis smoking hotspots like Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York, and Chicago and speaking with comedians, cannabis advocates, and business owners, and exploring dispensaries, clothing stores, restaurants, and whole neighborhoods to learn how cannabis positively shapes, affects, and builds community and inclusivity while exploring the impact and evolution of cannabis culture in America.

It’s a simple premise, but America has a long history of anti-cannabis (and frankly, racist) propaganda that has often positioned cannabis as something that outright destroys communities, so it’s dope (pun very much intended) to see Killer Mike and Weedmaps flip the script and modernize that conversation, bringing it to a more honest place in line with marijuana’s increasingly mainstream status.

Check out the exclusive trailer for Tumbleweeds above and be sure to catch the first two episodes (Las Vegas and San Francisco) on 4/20 on Vice TV and Vice TV streaming apps.

The Lakers Were Eliminated From Playoff Contention After A Loss To The Suns

The Los Angeles Lakers will not play for an NBA championship this spring. Los Angeles traveled to Phoenix to take on the Suns on Tuesday night needing a win to keep their slim hopes of making the play-in tournament alive. Instead, the team got to see first-hand why Phoenix are the favorites to win the Larry O’Brien trophy this season.

The Lakers were able to keep things close for a half, but the Suns started running away with things in the third and went into cruise control en route to a 121-110 win. As a result, Los Angeles fell three games behind the San Antonio Spurs in the race for the 10-seed in the Western Conference, and it became mathematically impossible for them to make up the gap before the regular season comes to an end.

Plenty will be written and said in the coming months about what happened to this Lakers team — while injuries played a gigantic role in their inability to find a groove, there have been major questions surrounding the team from essentially the moment they cashed in most of their trade chips for Russell Westbrook. It never exactly seemed like the roster was made up of players (including Westbrook) who fit around LeBron James and Anthony Davis, while Frank Vogel’s job security has been a hot topic for months.

Thanks to the loss, we know that the Clippers, Pelicans, and Spurs will participate in the play-in tournament, and while there’s a chance the Nuggets fall into the 7-seed, the overwhelming likelihood is that spot will go to the Timberwolves.

Schoolboy Q Is Still Ready For War Despite Being A ‘Soccer Dad’ On His Combative New Track

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard from Schoolboy Q. His last major release came in 2019 with his fifth album Crash Talk, a project that was up to par with the quality raps he’s delivered over his career, but one that was a bit toned down from his prior work. Since then, most of Q’s work has come through guest features with the likes of Freddie Gibbs, Reason, Nez, Conway The Machine, Gorillaz, and more. Over the last few years, he’s often promised that his sixth album was set to arrive in the near future, but as of today, we’ve yet to receive it.

All of that could change soon as Schoolboy Q finally returns with a new single for his faithful fan base. The new track, titled “Soccer Dad,” finds him standing tall and strong as he prepares to return to war. Don’t be mistaken, while his days may consist of being a real-life soccer dad or showing off his skills on the golf course, Schoolboy Q will send or shot or two if the occasion calls for it.

Schoolboy Q’s upcoming album, if released this year, would join a bloated list of projects that could potentially come from the TDE camp. It includes confirmed projects from Kendrick Lamar and potential ones from SZA, Ab-Soul, and others.

Pusha T And Jay-Z Cook Up A Fresh Batch Of Searing Bars On ‘Neck And Wrist’

It’s only a matter of time until Pusha T finally releases his anticipated fourth album, tentatively titled It’s Not Dry Yet. He’s spent all of 2022 promoting it through his own music or guest features, with both proving that he hasn’t lost a step and that he’s ready to enter his name into the Best Rap Album of 2022 conversation. So far this year, Pusha T has released the Kanye West and 88 Keys-produced “Diet Coke,” along with a video that features him beside West. He’s also contributed to Nigo’s recent album I Know Nigo! both as a solo act and as a member of Clipse, his rap duo with brother No Malice.

Now, Pusha T’s back with another presumed single from It’s Not Dry Yet and it features quite the heavyweight rapper. He and Jay-Z have reunited for their new song “Neck And Wrist.” It’s their first track since their 2016 release “Drug Dealers Anonymous.” As expected, “Neck And Wrist,” which is produced by Pharrell, includes raps focused on Pusha’s favorite topic while both rappers also take a moment to flex about their careers.

The new song arrives after Pusha T teamed up with Arby’s for a ruthless diss track, one that was reportedly worth over $8 million in advertising money, aimed at McDonald’s. As for Jay-Z, he’s set to co-produce the upcoming Netflix film Teddy, which will also be directed by Kid Cudi.

Lakers Analyst Stu Lantz Was Ready For The Suns To ‘Put Us Out Of Our Misery’

The Los Angeles Lakers’ hopes of making the play-in tournament could come to an end on Tuesday night if the team loses to the Phoenix Suns. Thanks to the San Antonio Spurs beating the Denver Nuggets earlier in the evening, L.A. is one loss away from seeing their hopes of having any path to the postseason completely destroyed, and unfortunately for them, the Suns are pretty good at beating opposing basketball teams.

There’s been a general malaise around this team all year, and thanks to a hot mic, we learned that former Lakers player and current TV analyst Stu Lantz is among those who just wants this season to be over.

“Get this over with, put us out of our misery,” Lantz was caught saying.

The Lakers entered Tuesday with a 31-47 record. Following San Antonio’s win, the gap between the two teams was 2.5 games, something that was made a little more difficult for L.A. due to the fact that the Spurs held the tiebreaker between the two teams. Further complicating matters for the Lakers was that LeBron James did not suit up to take on the Suns due to an ankle injury that has caused him to miss four of the team’s past five games.
