Will Butler Of Arcade Fire Announces His Departure From The Band

Earlier this week, Arcade Fire announced that they will release their first album in five years with their upcoming LP, We. The upcoming project is produced by power couple Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, along with super-producer Nigel Godrich and it’s set to be a 40-minute release with seven new tracks spread out two sides that represent a light/dark motif. While this is certainly an exciting announcement for fans, many noticed that Will Bulter, one of the founding members of Arcade and younger brother to the band’s lead vocalist Win Butler, was absent for many of the band’s promotional performances for We. Well, now we have an answer for that.

Will Butler has announced his departure from Arcade Fire. He shared the news in a series of posts on Twitter that explained what went into the decision and when it happened. “I left at the end of last year, after the new record was complete,” he wrote. “There was no acute reason beyond that I’ve changed—and the band has changed—over the last almost 20 years. Time for new things. I’m working on a new record; booking some shows this summer. I’m working on music for a David Adjmi play (which is so good). A few other projects percolating.”

Later on in his message, Butler thanked “anyone who’s come out to AF shows, or bought a record, or loves our music.” He added, “It’s meaningful to be part of your lives. Thank you to the crew, staff, management, label people, bands, artists, and friends who have helped bring our vision to life for so many years.” He also noted that “the band are still my friends and family.”

We is out 5/6 via Columbia. You can pre-save it here.

Patrick Beverley And George Hill Were Tossed After A Pretty Mild Scuffle In Bucks-Wolves

The Milwaukee Bucks traveled to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves on Saturday afternoon, and it didn’t take long for tension to boil over and a pair of players to get ejected. During the first quarter of action, Karl-Anthony Towns found himself at the free throw line, and because he is pretty good at shooting the basketball, he converted both of his tries from the charity stripe.

After the second shot went in, Taurean Prince and Serge Ibaka got tangled up, which led to an Ibaka shove and the pair coming face-to-face. The two got separated by a referee as they jawed with one another, at which point Patrick Beverley ran in and shoved Ibaka, which led to George Hill shoving Beverley and a mild fracas breaking out.

Once things settled down, the referees went to the monitor, took a look at all of this, and assessed technical fouls to Ibaka and Prince. They were not given the strongest penalties for all of this, though, as Beverley and Hill were given double technicals and tossed from the game. While it did not seem like all that much happened here outside of some pushing and shoving, the referees determined that the pair were tossed for “exacerbating the altercation.”

Norman Reedus Is Heading Back To Work On ‘The Walking Dead’ After Suffering An On-Set Concussion

Earlier this month, something horrible happened on the set of The Walking Dead: Norman Reedus suffered a concussion. The accident happened last Friday, and since then he’s not been back to work, taking the time to recuperate. But a week later he revealed he’s heading back to work.

In an Instagram post, Reedus said he was “getting better” and that by Tuesday he’ll be back on set, shooting zombies and ensuring they never kill off Daryl Dixon, the show’s most popular and iconic character, who’s already getting his own spinoff, alongside Melissa McBride’s Carol, once the show ends either late this year or early next.

On top of missing out on a week of The Walking Dead, Reedus was forced to postpone an appearance at the Fandemic Tour in Atlanta, where he was supposed to reunite with a bevy of Walking Dead alumni plus Fear the Walking Dead’s Jenna Elfman and even his Boondock Saints co-star Sean Patrick Flannery.

Details of Reedus’ accident have been thin on the ground, and it’s unclear whether or not it happened while he was filming the show. But he appears to be on the mend, which is good for not only The Walking Dead but the remake of Russ Meyer’s exploitation classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! to which he’s attached.

Capella Grey And Nija Want No ‘Confujawn’ Through Romance In Their Flirtatious New Video

After finding success as songwriters, Capella Grey and Nija are both shining as artists. Grey had a breakout year in 2021 with his “Gyalis” single while Nija just released her debut project Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You. They both have yet to reach their full potential, but on their journey towards doing so, Grey and Nija bring their talents together for their new single, “Confujawn.”

The track, which is a play on the word “confusion,” is about a couple who can’t seem to get on the same page about each other. Whether it be hiding their true feelings or entertaining other people, Grey and Nija both express that things between them need to be crystal clear and exclusive for a relationship to work. The duo also released a music video to accompany their new single. In it, Grey is at a party with friends and a woman when he sees Nija appear with a man. After eyeing each other spitefully for the first half of the video, the pair puts their pride aside and reconnects in the middle of the dancefloor to resume their romantic endeavors.

The new visual arrives after Grey concluded 2021 with his “Talk Nice,” a record that proved to be a strong follow-up to “Gyalis.” As for Nija’s Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You project, it’s a strong effort that checks in at ten songs without a guest feature.

Coi Leray Says She Recorded Her Video For ‘Blick Blick’ With Nicki Minaj While Dealing With A Knee Injury

For her latest move in 2022, Coi Leray called one of rap’s most popular acts to stand beside her for a new song. She and Nicki Minaj joined forces for their “Blick Blick” track and it came complete with a new video. The colorful visual displayed the two rappers armed with some heavy artillery as they laid off rap that fired shots at their competition. The track could line up to be the biggest release of Leray’s career and it’s one she deserves as she’s spent the last few years working her way up to having one of today’s most promising rap careers.

In a tweet that reflected on the release of “Blick Blick,” Leray shared a surprising tidbit about the song’s video. “I did all that Dancing on a fracture knee,” she wrote in the post. “I gotta get a minor surgery on it but I do physical therapy to maintain it for now. I wanted to go 10x harder with the choreo but it looks so good for a fractured patella.”

To celebrate the new single and her first-ever collaboration with Minaj, Leray got a tattoo of a pink Barbie doll head — which is in reference to Minaj’s Barbz fanbase — and the date “3.18.22.” ” I wish that I can have this moment for life,” Leray wrote on Instagram. “This moment is stuck with me 4EVER !”

‘True Detective’ Is Officially Coming Back Without Creator Nic Pizzolatto But With Barry Jenkins

True Detective, the beloved but bumpy HBO show that may be more famous for the duo memes it’s long inspired, debuted eight years ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s been prolific. There have only been three seasons, each one offering another hot shot pair of big name actors. Lately there’s been talk of a fourth go, though without creator Nic Pizzolatto returning. And now that’s more or less what’s happening.

According to Deadline, HBO is working on a new version of the anthology show, entitled True Detective: Night Country. What will be different about a show that already reinvented itself with each season? Well, for one thing, it will have completely different creatives. Issa López, of the well-regarded Mexican crime-fantasy-horror film Tigers Are Not Afraid, will write, executive produce, and direct the show’s pilot. Meanwhile, no less than Barry Jenkins, of the Best Picture winner Moonlight, will also executive produce.

Lopez is quite busy these days, working with Guillermo Del Toro on a Western about werewolves, a film with Noah Hawley, and the Blumhouse movie Our Lady of Tears. Jenkins, meanwhile, is hot off last year’s The Underground Railroad, based on Coleson Whitehead’s acclaimed novel. As for Pizzolatto, he was last seen writing The Guilty, with Jake Gyllenhaal, Ethan Hawke, and Riley Keough.

In the meantime, let those memes about which oddball pair will headline the spinoff commence.

Baby Tate Expresses The Pains Of A Failing Relationship In Her Remix Of Landstrip Chip’s ‘Wrong Way’

Baby Tate has been off to a great start so far in 2022. She kicked things off with a strong but short guest verse on JID’s “Surround Sound” with 21 Savage. Her verse was appreciated so much that fans begged her to release the full version of the song. She eventually shared the full verse with a video of her twerking and having a blast in front of the mirror. She followed that up with “What’s Love” and “S.L.O. (Slut Him Out)” which dropped off last month. For her latest offering, Baby Tate gets into her singing bag to remix a 2021 song.

Four months after the song was released, singer-songwriter Landstrip Chip invites Baby Tate to remix “Wrong Way.” The song details the final moments of a relationship where the respective parties realize that it’s time to move their separate ways. With that being said, they both acknowledge that returning to each other’s arms is the “wrong way” to move within their dwindling relationship.

The song was originally released on Landstrip Chip’s 2021 project Catch My Good Side. It presents nine songs with features from Seddy Hendrix, Latto, and Vory.

You can listen to the remix of “Wrong Way” in the video above.

UNC Blew A 25-Point Lead But Managed To Rally In Overtime To Beat 1-Seed Baylor

The first 1-seed has gone down in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The defending national champion Baylor Bears took on the 8-seed North Carolina Tar Heels in the second round on Saturday afternoon, and despite the fact that the Bears were able to rally back from 25 points down to force overtime, Carolina managed to compose itself in the extra frame and win, 93-86.

Dang near everything went right for the Heels for the first half-plus of the game. R.J. Davis caught fire over the first 20 minutes, going for 17 points and helping the team as it took a 42-29 lead into the locker room by hitting three after three.

The second half looked primed to be much of the same — Davis and Brady Manek provided a whole heck of a lot of scoring for UNC, while the team’s defense did not let the Bears get much of anything.

And then, midway through the second half, everything changed. Manek, who had 26 points and got whatever he wanted on the offensive end of the floor, was hit with a controversial flagrant two when he elbowed Baylor’s Jeremy Sochan as the two fought for a rebound.

flagrant 2: https://twitter.com/buckets/status/1505241696237461513

The loss of Manek took the wind out of North Carolina’s sails and opened the door ever so slightly. The Bears could not have done a much better job capitalizing — despite trailing by as many as 25 points, Baylor went on a 20-4 run in the immediate aftermath of the ejection and kept turning up the pressure on the Tar Heels bit by bit.

As the pressure turned up from Baylor — and, it must be said, the referees made a number of calls that raised some eyebrows — North Carolina kept crumbling. James Akinjo scored off of a miss, drew a foul, and hit the free throw to cut the lead down to four.

UNC managed to stay afloat and create some separation, but with right around 30 seconds remaining, Sochan banked in a three to make it a one-possession game.

Bacot got fouled after the ensuing inbound, but missed both free throws and opened the door for Baylor to do something special. Akinjo came right down the floor, attacked the rim, made a layup, got fouled, and tied things up at the stripe.

Carolina had a chance to win the game, but opted for an off-the-dribble three from the logo by Davis that barely got the front of the rim, sending the game to overtime. While there, the two teams jostled back-and-forth, and whenever one team looked like it could open up a lead, the other would manage to keep things tight. But then, with less than 90 seconds remaining, Davis hit a circus layup and got an and-one that gave UNC some much-needed breathing room … even if he did follow that up with an extremely weird turnover on the Heels’ next possession.

This mountain provided too steep for the Bears to climb, and as a result, we will not have back-to-back national champions. The Tar Heels will now wait and see if they’ll take on St. Mary’s or UCLA in the Sweet 16.

Lizzo Has Reached A Settlement In Her Lawsuit Over Songwriting Credits Over ‘Truth Hurts’

In late 2019, Lizzo was hit with a lawsuit over her breakout hit song, “Truth Hurts.” The suit was filed by Justin Raisen, Jeremiah Raisen, and Justin “Yves” Rothman who claimed that lyrics from Lizzo’s hit came from a track they previously worked on together titled “Healthy.” The trio was not happy that they were not credited on “Truth Hurts” despite the borrowed lyrics that allegedly appear on the song. In a statement that was given in response to the lawsuit, Lizzo said the trio “did not co-author ‘Truth Hurts,’ and have no right to co-own that work or to share in its profits.”

In August 2020, U.S. District Judge Dolly M. Gee sided with Lizzo’s claim that “a joint author of one copyrightable work does not automatically gain ownership of a derivative work in which the joint author had no hand in creating.” However, Judge Gee allowed the trio that sued Lizzo to amend their lawsuit and refile, which they did. Now, more than 18 months later, both sides have reached a settlement in the matter.

According to Rolling Stone, a federal judge moved to dismiss the lawsuit after attorneys on both sides said that their respective clients had reached a settlement. The terms of the deal were not revealed, but each side will have to pay its own legal fees. The attorneys requested a “dismissal of the entire action without prejudice.”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

The Charmingly Odd Way Daniel Radcliffe Got The ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Role Involved Rihanna, Colin Farrell, And The Periodic Table

Daniel Radcliffe has no interest in returning to the Harry Potter series, as he’s politely revealed. But that’s partly because he has other things going on. One of them is playing “Weird Al” Yankovic, the legendary novelty pop star who’s spent decades doing lampoons of hit songs. How the former The Boy Who Lived wound up playing the Hawaiian shirt fanatic is actually an interesting one — long in the making and involving some other big time celebs, as he revealed on Friday’s The Tonight Show.

“When I talked to Al for the first time, I was like, ‘I’m immensely flattered by the idea that you would pick me to play you, but like, why me?’” he recalled to host Jimmy Fallon.

It actually involved something he’d done a very long time ago. Back in November 2010, Radcliffe was on a typically packed episode of The Graham Norton Show, alongside Colin Farrell and Rihanna. At one point, when he was bit 21 years old, the actor sang a cover of a classic novelty song, “The Elements,” Tom Lehrer’s ode to the periodic table set to Gilbert and Sullivan’s dense “I Am the Very Model of Modern Major General,” from The Pirates of Penzance.

“I sang ‘The Elements’ next to Colin Farrell and a very bemused Rihanna, who I think was like, ‘Who is this kid and why is he singing all of the elements?’” Radcliffe reminisced. “And I guess Al saw that and was like, ‘This guy maybe gets it.’ And so picked me.”

Radcliffe’s rendition of the song — a great way to learn all 118 elements on the periodic table and then impress talk show audiences, hosts, and fellow guests — is really something, and terribly charming to boot. So if you’re able to do the whole song, and starred in an intensely popular film franchise, you might have a chance of being cast as a musical genius.

You can watch Radcliffe’s Tonight Show appearance in the video above.
