(SPOILERS for this week’s Power Book IV: Force will be found below.)
After making the move from New York City to Chicago, it didn’t take long for Tommy Egan to find new love. In fact, he found it in the first episode of 50 Cent’sPower Book IV: Force. Gloria, who is a bartender at a local bar, caught Tommy’s attention and things between the two have been hot and steamy from the jump. However, their fling didn’t come without complications, since Gloria also has a romantic history with Vic Flanagan, who isn’t too fond of Tommy for multiple reasons. However, when Tommy and Vic set aside their differences to work together, it causes a change in Tommy’s relationship with Gloria.
What’s Tommy And Gloria’s Relationship Status In ‘Power?’
Halfway into this week’s episode, Tommy is forced to break things off with Gloria. While he certainly enjoys her presence, Tommy’s main reason for being in Chicago is to make as much money as possible. With a new deal in place between him, Vic, and Diamond, Tommy isn’t about to let the love triangle that is him, Vic, and Gloria mess things up.
Gloria is accepting of Tommy’s reason to end things, but who knows, maybe later on in the season, we’ll see Tommy and Gloria reconnect and pick up where they left off.
New episodes of STARZ’s ‘Power Book IV: Force’ are available to watch on Sunday at 12:00am EST.
The last time John Mulaney hosted SNL, back in October of 2020, the world — and his life — were very different. Donald Trump was still president (and Mulaney made a, uh, controversial joke about him). Vaccines were still a few months away. Jan. 6 hadn’t yet happened. And Mulaney was a matter of weeks from an intervention about his drug problems. He entered rehab and now he’s clean, sober, back on the stand-up circuit, and a father. He didn’t shy away from talking about his struggles on his fifth job hosting a show for which he used to be a lowly writer.
“For many, many reasons, I’m grateful to be here tonight after a very complicated year,” he told the crowd, joking, “It’s always great to be somewhere that’s always emphasized sobriety and mental health.”
Mulaney then acknowledged that since his last hosting gig, “different things happened.” He then discussed when he was confronted by loved ones, which he’s talked about before, back in December of 2020. “It was an intervention, for me — my least favorite kind of intervention,” he joked. “Do you know how big of a drug problem you have to have if you open a door and see people gathered, your first thought is that this is probably an intervention about my drug problem?”
He also talked about one of the key parts of rehab: when a counselor sits down with you and makes you break up with your drug dealers. That requires texting them first, informing them of your sobriety, and then blocking their number.
But when Mulaney tried to split with his dealer, he was too slow to block him, and he wound up having a bittersweet, if somewhat confusing exchange with him as they parted ways. Indeed, his dealer reminded Mulaney that he was his only client — that he’s a painter whom he somehow met, who wound up buying good drugs for him so he wouldn’t get bad ones. He also said he was going back to not dealing drugs, as he did before his and Mulaney’s paths crossed.
“There are many tales of drug dealers turning innocent people into drug addicts,” Mulaney said, “but I might be the first drug addict to turn an innocent man into a drug dealer.”
He also talked about his 10-week-old son, whom he had with his girlfriend, Olivia Munn. You can hear him open up, in his patented comical way, in the video above.
Booking Saturday Night Live is a chance to start 2022 off on a high note, as the indie legends had a disappointing end to 2021 when the Omicron variant forced them to halt a much-hailed residency at Brooklyn Steel in New York. Though the band was willing to keep taking the risk of performing, eventually the threat of the new variant was so strong they had to shut down a few nights early. Watching them return to the SNL stage is a good reminder that live shows are what they do best, and hopefully there will be many more chances to see them perform in the coming months. For now, get your fix by watching their performance above.
A few weeks ago, John Mulaney decided to let the world know that he’d be hosting Saturday Night Live in the very near future — and that indie legends LCD Soundsystem would be the musical guests. This is just the second time James Murphy and co. are appearing on the late night show, which seems unbelievably given how intrinsically tied the are to music in New York over the last two decades. But they made the most of their time on the show tonight, kicking things off with a performance of “Thrills.”
The band definitely knows their audience will appreciate such a deep cut — “Thrills” is taken from their 2005 self-titled album, and they opted to go deep, for this first tune at least, rather than perform something newer. It’s nice for the band to have a high night in early 2022, since they had to end 2021 on a dismal note by canceling the rest of their residency at Brooklyn Steel due to the rampant spread of Omicron.

Back then, Saturday Night Live was just as impacted by the spread, canceling the studio audience for their last episode of the year, and also putting the kibosh on Charli XCX’s highly-anticipated performance. Luckily, they recently rescheduled Charli so she can have her main pop girl moment. For now, watch LCD have their Brooklyn indie moment up top.
There’s been a lot of ups and downs in Big Sean’s career, but rarely has a day on the internet been so #personal for the rapper. Namely: Fans now see exactly how the 5’8 rapper decided upon the moniker “Big Sean.” A photo is circulating that’s allegedly taken from Big Sean’s “Close Friends” Instagram story and then posted for the whole internet to see. And if it was real, that would be totally upsetting and not ok anyway. Even though, fans were definitely praising the pic because they thought his, ahem, endowment, was noteworthy.
After gossip publications like The Shade Room and others began reporting on the leaked nude, Sean made it clear from the jump that it’s not actually him, probably just another classic case of photoshop and posters wanting to post for clout. We get it. But since the world is descending back into hellacious chaos, and a pandemic is literally still going on, and some days it feels like these jokes are all we have, why not take a look at some of the reactions anyway, right? It’s a moment for all of us to gather together and celebrate the natural beauty of… someone? Hopefully whoever the member does belong to gets to see a few of these and have a laugh as well. Between this and Nelly, well, posting is getting out of control lately.
didn’t jhene aiko have a line in her song where she said big sean made her orgasm like 8 times??? by the looks of things… it adds up pic.twitter.com/FC5epEhfFo
Everywhere you look, Megan Thee Stallion is there. And honestly? Former Fifth Harmony member turned breakout star Normani isn’t too far behind. The pair previously worked together on the song “Diamonds,” off the Birds Of Prey soundtrack, and it seems like they’ve developed a pretty tight bond. Which makes their latest bit of content together just that much cuter.
As part of Megan’s new collaboration with Snapchat on a short series called Off Thee Leash, she decided to do an episode with Normani. And once she found out that Normani missed her own prom because of touring with aforementioned girl group, there was nothing left to do but throw the “Wild Side” singer an idyllic prom. In the clip, Normani mentions that she might decide to turn one of her birthday parties into a full-on prom in the future, so this might not be the last prom-themed Normani we ever get.
Back to the most important aspect — Off Thee Leash is a show about pets, so Normani brings her dog, Sir Dior, with her during the episode. Fellow dog lovers will definitely appreciate his big, slobbering presence in the short. But Normani’s excitement about finally experiencing prom, broken corsage and all, is definitely the highlight. Watch above.
Doja Cat has been one of the most prolific female rappers in recent memory. The rising hip-hop and pop star has been continually featuring on tracks with other artists, sharing her life on social media, and released her own full-length, Planet Her to immense critical acclaim last year. But as Billboard kicks off another round of interviews with women in the music industry, honoring how much harder we have to work for recognition, it’s Doja’s turn to give flowers to someone who influenced her deeply. And it shouldn’t come as any surprise that the person she most wants to shout out is none other than Nicki Minaj.
Billboard asked Doja: “What performers did you look to growing up?” And her response included flowers for Nicki first and foremost, along with Janet Jackson, and Beyonce. “It’s pretty obvious that I’m in love with everything Nicki Minaj has put out into the world,” Doja assert, before citing some other artists she admires. “You have your Janets and your Beyoncés. I look at [other artists’] projects and performances and go, “Wow, I hope one day I get to that point.”
Well, most of us think she’s well on her way there. Check out the full interview here.
Father John Misty is back, and boy does it seem like he missed the stage. While plenty of artists talk about their love for connecting with fans, and being blessed to play music for a living, there few current performers who seem to genuinely love being in front of an audience more than Josh Tillman. Last night at the walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown LA, he performed alongside the LA Philharmonic for one of his first live performances in quite some time. To say it was a return to form isn’t quite true, as it was clear that Josh and his band are a little rusty — as are the bulk of us in our seats, unsure how to feel or act, particularly in a seated venue with an orchestra playing along with Tillman’s irreverent folk rock.
As live shows become a part of the music industry’s ecosystem again, plenty of people are ready to get back into it. Shows with extra restrictions might be especially appealing, like the ones at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which come with comprehensive vetting. To even get inside the door, guests have to show not just their vaccination status, but also proof of a booster shot. If you don’t have it on you, the ushers will direct you to a link that will verify your medical history. Inside the concert hall, there’s no food or drinks allowed in the venue itself, and all the patrons remained seated and masked for the duration of the show. Though the masks were probably welcome to most attendees, the bulk of whom were much older than the average fan at a normal Father John Misty show, watching him perform to a seated crowd, no matter how beautiful the orchestra swelling behind him, was a little strange.
These songs are meant to be swayed to, and rogue guests up in back rows would periodically burst to their feet, wave their arms overhead, or do a little jig, like most of the seated patrons probably wanted to. But politeness, especially after/during a deadly pandemic, ruled, and it was relatively quiet show. That lack of participation was also probably strange for a band who are used to much bigger rooms, and much rowdier crowds, but they played beautifully, even when it came to brand new material. And as different as the atmosphere was, any strangeness was worth the surreal experience of hearing Tillman’s music with an orchestra accompaniment.
In Misty time, it’s been quite a while since he released a new album. Fans got used to a cadence that saw an album release every two years, sometimes even less, so when news broke late last year that a new album was coming in a matter of months, it was a welcome relief. Chloë And The Next 20th Century is slated for release in early April, and last night’s show included orchestra-accompanied renditions of both the album’s lead single, “Funny Girl,” and a live performance of the second single, “Q4.” Fans who were hoping to hear more new material off the album might have been disappointed, but the setlist was also packed with FJM favorites from all four previously albums, so there wasn’t much to complain about in the end.
This was the first time Tillman and his band had performed either of the new Chloë songs publicly, and each of them fit neatly into the Father John Misty discography, at least the portion of it he shared last night. But based on the energy around his new music, it seems like Tillman’s next album will be a bit more subdued, even than 2018’s sometimes gut-wrenching God’s Favorite Customer. Knowing him, this just might mean there’s a whole collection of pandemic-induced party rockers coming next. Hey, if Taylor is in the FJM lane doing folklore, would any of us be opposed to Josh going full 1989 on a 2023 follow-up? This is all speculation, clearly, so for now we’ll have to wait and see how Chloë pans out once we hear it in full in just about a month. Check out a couple more photos of last night’s show below.

Some of the most popular movies ever made did not do well when they originally opened. The Wizard of Oz and It’s a Wonderful Life were both saved after becoming TV staples. The Big Lebowski, initially seen as the Coen brothers’ disappointing follow-up to Fargo, is now their most watched film. No one even knew what The Boondock Saints was until enough people bought the DVD. So when West Side Story, which is to say Steven Spielberg’s new take on the classic musical, tanked in theaters (where, for the record, it’s still playing), there was hope that the critically adored and Oscar-nominated movie might enjoy a robust second act.
Here’s a good sign that that will happen: On Friday night, someone posted a clip of a single, incredible shot from the movie. It’s from the dance at the gym, where our star-crossed lovers wind up meeting. Before they do, though, everyone else is busy dancing up a storm. Spielberg, one of cinema’s most kinetic directors, and his longtime cinematographer Janusz Kaminski shoot the hell out of it.
That includes an acrobatic long take that lasts just over a minute. It starts with Ariana DeBose’s Anita, David Alvarez’s Bernardo, Rachel Zegler’s Maria, and crew entering the gym. As they open the doors, the camera, on a crane, dashes into the crowd. It hovers over people dancing in unison. It swoops in amongst them. And it ends its epic journey back with Anita, Bernardo, Maria, et al., all without a cut.
The clip received thousands and re-tweets and even more likes, with people blown away by the choreography, of the dancers and of the camera crew. It was so stunning that those in the know had to point out that it’s completely real, without any digital touch-ups.
Aside from the technical mastery AND the choreography, look at how much character and storytelling Steven Spielberg packs in here! https://t.co/Wq7zPLM8cR

Others pointed other incredible Spielberg shots throughout his career.
Incredible. Spielberg is indeed a genius with the oner, but if you ask me to pick out his best ever shot, it’s the dolly zoom on Chief Brody in Jaws. It’s so disorienting, and totally captures that moment when the world goes askew during a crisis. https://t.co/v7HvYQZWFO

Wild to hear people don’t want Spielberg to do a Bullitt movie, like he isn’t a master of action. He directed Tom Cruise taking out a fleet of jet pack cops in one of the best staged chase scenes ever pic.twitter.com/GzToqqpPpA
As it happens, Spielberg’s West Side Story is scheduled to finally make its streaming debut, hitting Disney+ on Tuesday. A viral clip isn’t the only recent big Spielberg news. (The 1961 version, meanwhile, currently streams on HBO Max.) On Friday, it was revealed that the legendary filmmaker was interested in making a film about the iconic detective Steve McQueen plays in the classic thriller Bullitt, which features another thing Spielberg loves: car chases.
