Last week, Kanye West dropped the proverbial “lyric heard the world” on his new single “Eazy” with The Game. In the midst of a diatribe about his divorce, therapy, and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s new boyfriend Pete Davidson, Ye fires the ultimate shot at the actor when he spits, “God saved me from that crash, just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass.” The song is propped up on a sample of Eazy-E’s “Eazy-Duz-It,” which might’ve raised some eyebrows with hip-hop purists. But now Eazy-E’s daughter Ebie Wright has weighed in on using the sample and on the lyrics.
In an impromptu interview, a TMZ cameraperson asked Wright about her thoughts on the song. Wright quickly voices her approval for the track, saying, “I think it’s a great song. I’m a huge Kanye fan, I love Game. It’s an incredible record and it was also produced by my buddy Hit-Boy so shout out to all my guys.”
That’s a nice co-sign from Eazy’s offspring, but it’s what she said about the Pete Davidson line that was really revealing.
“My father literally represents revolutionizing everything, he also represents gangster rap. What Kanye did and what he said on it, I mean, it don’t get no more gangster than that.”
She elaborates a bit further and on whether her father would’ve wanted to be a part of this song were he alive today. But clearly sees it as an homage to her father and added of Kanye that “Eazy taught him. And Eazy taught me.”

Waititi plays “history’s most feared and revered pirate” Blackbeard in Our Flag Means Death, an HBO Max comedy that also stars the extremely funny Rhys Darby as a fellow buccaneer. The official description reads: “Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby), a pampered aristocrat who abandons his life of privilege to become a pirate.” You can watch the trailer above.
“They are like an old married couple in certain ways,” showrunner David Jenkins told EW about Waititi and Darby, who worked together on Flight of the Conchords and What We Do in the Shadows. “If a scene isn’t quite working, Taika will be able to grumble about Rhys, and vice versa, in the way that only friends can. And then when it is popping, they know how to get the best out of each other. There’s a generosity and a real sweetness between them that you wouldn’t get if you weren’t using those two friends.”
An Oscar winner playing Blackbeard doesn’t make up for Tim Curry not even being nominated for a measly Golden Globe his performance as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island (a true tragedy), but it’s a start.
Our Flag Means Death, which also stars Leslie Jones and Kristian Nairn (a.k.a. Hodor from Game of Thrones), premieres on HBO Max in March.

When it comes to cold weather beers, drinkers have a ton of options. Obviously, nobody is going to tell you to stop drinking your hoppy IPAs and crushable lagers and pilsners this season, but if you want to get the most out of the dreary, cold winter months you may want to turn your drinking attention to stouts, porters, strong ales, and maybe even a few Scotch ales.
Since we’ve already written about the other three wintry beer styles, today we’re going to turn our attention to the malty, toffee-like, sweet, warming, rich Scotch ale. Sometimes referred to as a “wee heavy,” these usually-higher-than-average-ABV beers have all the indulgent caramel, slightly fruity, butterscotch, and toasted malt flavors we need to keep us warm until spring.
To find the best options, we asked brewers, brewing professionals, and craft beer experts to tell us their picks for the best Scotch ales to drink this winter. Keep scrolling to see all of their choices.
Thornbridge Yule Scotch Ale
Thornbridge
Garret Oliver, brewmaster at Brooklyn Brewery in Brooklyn, New York
ABV: 9%
Average Price: Limited Availability
Why This Beer?
With Scotch Ale you can go really old-school or you can go with an “updated” version. My favorite is the “slightly updated” Yule Scotch Ale, lightly flavored with heather, by the Thornbridge Brewery of Derbyshire (UK).
Wee Mac from Sun King Brewing is big in body, color, and flavor. There’s a lot of caramel and toffee flavors without it being too sweet. It gets better as it warms up, so there’s no need to rush.
Moylan’s Kilt Lifter
Moylan
John Montes De Oca, co-head brewer at Barebottle Brewery in San Francisco
Moylan’s Kilt Lifter is one of those beers that shouldn’t be as easy to drink as it is. The bready caramel notes suck you in but the hint of floral hops keeps it refreshing. The eight percent ABV is hidden here.
This is perfect for those rich winter meals where lighter beers just won’t cut it.
Alesmith Wee Heavy has won numerous awards at GABF (Great American Beer Festival) and other competitions, and as such, has become a standard for the style in America. Its nuanced flavors and maltiness with notes of walnut, almonds, oak wood, light smokiness, and toffee make it a great fireside beer.
Central Waters Brewer’s Reserve Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale
The most exceptional wee heavy or Scotch ale I have ever had was Brewer’s Reserve Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale from Central Waters. If you’ve ever had a barrel-aged beer from Central Waters, you already know how phenomenal their barrel program is. This beer is a perfect example of how rich and malty a traditional wee heavy needs to be while adding on loads of bourbon barrel complexity.
At first sip, you’re immediately taken back by the Kentucky hug of the bourbon barrel and the smoked malt. Then it develops into loads of sweet caramel and chocolate all throughout the finish. To top it all off, it’s so incredibly soft and smooth you’ll be begging for more.
I will always have a weakness for Oskar Blues Old Chub, if only for the novelty of it being the only such beer in cans for many years. Huge flavors of toffee, caramel, tobacco, and chewy malts make it a worthwhile cold-weather choice.
Scotty Karate by Dark Horse Brewing Company holds a special place in my heart as I remember drinking it almost fifteen years ago when I was first discovering craft beer. The typical malt flavors of caramel and brown sugar are balanced by a light smoke character that is reminiscent of a great scotch. It goes great with all kinds of cold-weather food, and I make a point to find some whenever I’m in Michigan.
Old Fashioned Holiday Ale is a version of Bell’s Christmas Ale aged in bourbon barrels with dried cherry and orange peel. This Scotch ale tastes like a boozy Christmas cocktail. But the real appeal here is that it’s almost eleven percent ABV, which is helpful in getting you through those long winter nights.
3 Floyds Robert The Bruce
3 Floyds
Connor Klopcic, director of brewing operations at Perrin Brewing in Comstock Park, Michigan
The best wee heavy or Scotch ale I like to drink in the winter is Robert The Bruce from 3 Floyds. I like the body and malt characters that come through. It has caramel notes, but it doesn’t take over the beer — which some Scotch ales can do.
This eleven percent ABV bourbon-barrel-aged Scotch ale is known for its mix of oaky wood, sweet toffee, bold roasted malts, raisins, dried cherries, and slight smoke. It’s a truly unique, warming beer well suited for winter drinking.
The former Trump ally has been cut off by members of the ex-president’s inner circle, and right-wing media channels like Fox News, so, naturally, he’s looking to build his own media conglomerate. Dubbed “Frank Speech,” the web-based live-streaming platform features Lindell and co-host Brannon Howse shouting about voter fraud and vaccine mandates at all hours of the day and bills itself as a direct competitor to Newsmax, another far-right propaganda network that Lindell used to be on good terms with. And now, Lindell is taking his apparent feud with Newsmax — who stopped featuring him on their network after being hit with a $1.3 billion defamation suit from Dominion Voting Systems — to the next level by hiring former Newsmax White House correspondent Emerald Robinson.
Robinson was terminated by Newsmax late last year after shooting off some bizarre tweets linking the Covid-19 vaccines to satanic tracking devices. According to her, the vaccines contained a bioluminescent enzyme called Luciferase that allowed the government to track recipients. Robinson claimed that the name of the enzyme was a reference to Satan and signaled the end times.
Of course, none of this was true — the enzyme was only used in researching the effectiveness of the vaccines in a lab setting and is not in any current COVID-19 vaccine on the market — but it’s just the latest in the TV personality’s string of fear-mongering tactics, which might be why Lindell was so quick to scoop her up.
“We are building a great TV network and she is a great host!” Lindell told The Daily Beast.
While we doubt Lindell’s new live-streaming channel will pose any kind of real threat to Newsmax’s ratings, it’s nice to see a safe space being built for people who totally ignored science class.
With new albums from bands like Dogleg and Foxing, emo music successfully underwent a revival in 2021. And while there’s plenty of contemporary music for a generation of emo fans, there’s a new festival with a mission to pay homage to the early aughts artists who made it all possible. When We Were Young Fest’s inaugural lineup was just announced, showing that it’s a ’00s emo fever dream with headliners like My Chemical Romance, Paramore, and many, many more.
A poster for When We Were Young Fest’s 2022 lineup circulated Twitter on Tuesday, confirming that the most popular emo artists from 2005 and on have been booked for a massive one-day music event. Taking place on October 22 on the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, When We Were Young Fest is bringing dozens of bands to their stage. Along with the aforementioned headliners, the event has booked bands like A Day To Remember, Taking Back Sunday, Avril Lavigne, Bright Eyes, Jimmy Eat World, Boys Like Girls, The All-American Rejects, The Wonder Years, Car Seat Headrest, Mayday Parade, Wolf Alice, PVRIS, We The Kings, 3OH!3, The Ready Set, AFI, Alkaline Trio, Knocked Loose, and more.
Shortly after the poster dropped, Paramore announced their appearance at the festival on Twitter. “We’ve missed you,” the band wrote.
we’ve missed you. we’re playing When We Were Young Fest in Vegas on Oct 22nd.
This week in pop music, saw laid-back and revved-up releases alike. FKA Twigs shared her latest album, King Princess kicked off a new era of music, and Diplo teamed up with a few collaborators for a dance-ready tune.
This week saw the release of FKA Twigs’ introspective LP Caprisongs. A day before its debut, the singer dropped the rhythmic track “Jealousy” featuring Nigerian singer/rapper Rema. While the beat itself is wildly upbeat, FKA’s lyrics detail what it feels like to have someone project feelings of jealousy onto you.
King Princess — “Little Bother” Feat. Fousheé
Fans fell in love with King Princess on her 2019 debut album Cheap Queen. As she puts the finishing touches on its sophomore follow up, King Princess links with breakout artist and Uproxx cover star Fousheé for the pop punk-inspired track “Little Bother.” Armed with a hallow guitar riff, the two singers belt out verses about feeling like a second thought in a relationship.
Aluna, Diplo, Durante — “Forget About Me”
Acclaimed DJ Diplo teamed up with collaborators Aluna (of EDM duo AlunaGeorge) and Durante for the pumped-up track “Forget About Me.” Over an irresistibly smooth beat, Aluna’s honeyed vocals echo the song’s energy as she sings of prioritizing herself and letting go of a former crush.
Oliver Tree — “Cowboys Don’t Cry”
Known for his bowl cut, neon clothes, and catchy songs, Oliver Tree takes on a brand-new, mullet-wearing persona for his latest track “Cowboys Don’t Cry.” The single is Tree’s version of a country-inspired love song. With a bit of twang in his lyrical delivery, the wildly fun song has the musician pulling out all the stops to get back with a partner.
Cautious Clay — “Rapture In Blue”
Last year, innovative musician Cautious Clay dropped his album Deadpan Love. Now expanding the project with some new songs and updated versions of fan favorites, Clay shares the inspired tune “Rapture In Blue.” Showcasing his talent for crafting soulful and spellbinding songs, the new single is sure to be an instant classic.
Noa Kirel — “Thought About That”
In her first new track of the year, Israeli pop star Noa Kirel is leaving toxic men in her past. Her latest tune “Thought About That” is a buoyant pop number featuring catchy chords and soaring melodies about prioritizing herself. “I turned 20 this year and it’s so important for my music to inspire young women to be independent and stand up for themselves, especially in relationships,” she said.
Raveena — “Rush”
After captivating a massive audience with a full-length album and an EP, Raveena begins to roll out her next project with the pleasant track “Rush.” The song’s dulcet tones ring in a new era of lush music as Raveena’s intimate vocals melt over a sparse beat. “The song was the genesis of me exploring a more intense marriage between Bollywood sounds and the pop/R&B music that I grew up on in America,” she said about the single.
Sofia Carson — “Loud”
Sofia Carson may have gotten her start as an actress on Disney Channel, but her new track “Loud” proves she’s just as serious about her music. “Loud” is an R&B-leaning and empowering anthem that calls out unfair double standards and asserts her confident presence in any room.
Erika Tham — “Shhh”
Like Carson, Erika Tham got her start in acting, but her recent vibe-heavy singles show she’s here to stay. Her latest tune “Shhh” is relaxed, fun, and flirtatious, and verifies Tham’s a force to be reckoned with the snappy tune. “When it came to writing the verses, I wanted to pay homage to the sassy, unapologetic pop stars of the ‘90s,” Tham said about the swaggering track.
Yeule — “Too Dead Inside”
Ambient pop artist Yeule’s new single “Too Dead Inside” is the London-based artist’s latest dreamy project. Produced by hyperpop maestro Danny L Harle, the breathy and ethereal track offers a preview of her upcoming LP Glitch Princess.
Some of the artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
Sonic Youth’s decorated career as one of the most iconic and pioneering bands of the indie rock movement saw them releasing fifteen studio albums, from their 1983 debut Confusion Is Sex to the polished, still-experimental farewell of 2009’s The Eternal. The band never skipped a beat, even after they broke up in 2011 when the final lineup of Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Lee Ranaldo, Steve Shelley, and Mark Ibold remained prolific in their solo endeavors. Now the new In/Out/In EP of largely unheard recordings from their final decade as a unit is due out on March 18th, with the track “In & Out” released today.
If “In & Out” feels improvisational, it definitely is. Recorded during a soundcheck, it sees Gordon’s bass groove and Shelley’s pacing on the drums laying down a canvas for Gordon to hypnotically hum. Shelley explained in a statement exactly how the song came about and where it was tightened up, thus setting the stage for the type of material we can expect on the new EP:
“When you’re in the middle of a tour and all of the musical cylinders (musicians, crew + equipment) are warmed up and firing on 10, and if the room/theater/venue and its acoustics allow, you can sometimes catch magic or maybe a basic track. This magic/music/inspiration doesn’t always occur when you’d like it to show up (you know, during the show!) -however, it sometimes can be caught in small unspoken moments during soundcheck when you least expect it. “In & Out” was caught in such a situation – during soundcheck in Pomona, CA at the Fox Theatre in 2010 – Kim and I were waiting for our bandmates to arrive and our linechecks turned into a jam session turned into recording a basic track. Recorded surreptitiously by long-time SY engineer Aaron Mullan and tucked away for guitar overdubs later in 2010, and then submitted to Cory Rayborn for his Three Lobed multi-artist box set “Not The Space You Know, But Between Them”. The two SY songs that debuted and were exclusively available on that box set are now available in one standalone collection – In/Out/In – plus three (mostly) instrumental Sonic Youth jammers from 2000-2010.”

When the news of Activision Blizzard’s sale to Microsoft broke it led to a lot of questions about both companies and many of its IPs. However, while many of us immediately thought of the video game side, there was a cloud hanging over the deal that needed to be addressed.
The news about Kotick has led to demands across the industry that he step down, but so far he has remained CEO of Activision Blizzard. With a purchase on the way, this has left many wondering if that would mean Kotick will be stepping down in the process. As of right now, Kotick is expected to remain the CEO of Activision Blizzard through the sales process. While Microsoft said in its release that Kotick will remain the CEO of Activision Blizzard and “eventually report to Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer,” the Wall Street Journal would go on to report that Kotick is expected to leave the company once the deal closes.
Bobby Kotick, Activision’s longtime CEO, is expected to leave after the deal closes, according to people familiar with those plans. Microsoft had said in its announcement Tuesday that Mr. Kotick “will continue to serve as CEO of Activision Blizzard,” and that after the deal closes “the Activision Blizzard business will report to Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer. ” But the companies have agreed that he will depart once the deal closes, the people said.
It appears that the only reason Kotick is currently remaining in his position is to ensure that the purchase goes through. Before the news that Microsoft was purchasing Activision Blizzard, Phil Spencer said in a statement internally that Microsoft was evaluating its relationship with Activision over the allegations.
Netflix has ordered a new animated series from two of the kings of half-hour comedies, Mike Judge and Greg Daniels.Bad Crimes will star Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus as Kara and Jennie, two FBI agents who travel across the country to solve crimes while navigating their friendship, relationships, and career. The series is created by Nicole Silverberg, former writer of Full Frontal With Samantha Bee.
Executive producers Judge and Daniels are legendary among the TV comedy world. Judge is known for creating Beavis and Butt-head and King Of The Hill, the latter created alongside Daniels, who also worked on The Office and Parks and Rec. The duo have joined together under their new production name, Bandera Entertainment. Also producing is Erica Hayes, who has worked on several big-name adult animations, such as Big Mouth and Rick and Morty.
Nicole Silverberg said in a statement, “Making Bad Crimes with Greg and Mike and Bandera, who are the whole reason I dreamed of one day getting to write TV, has been such a surreal and incredible experience. We all feel that working with Netflix – which not only permits, but encourages my grossest, most violent comedy fantasies – is a dream come true. Plus, I am partnering with Erica Hayes and a genius team of writers who are building this show into something unique and special.”
Young Dolph’s label, Paper Route Empire, is releasing the tribute compilation Paper Route Empire Presents: Long Live Dolph this Friday, January 21. Of course, it’s only right that the latest single from the album would come courtesy of Dolph’s most frequent collaborator on the label, his Dum And Dummer partner in rhyme, Key Glock. Glock offers his own personal homage to his fallen mentor and friend with “Proud,” which the label shared today along with a poignant video highlighting Makeda’s bakery, which Dolph loved to frequent — and where he was ultimately taken from the world too soon.
“I could get in back in blood but still I can’t get back the time,” Glock rhymes as he performs in front of a tribute wall dedicated to Dolph. The gist of his song is simple; he’s hurt but he wants to make Dolph proud of him, so there’s only one thing to do: Get back on the grind.
In addition to Key Glock’s tribute, Long Live Dolph is set to feature appearances from the other members of Paper Route Empire, including Big Moochie Grape, Chitana, Jay Fizzle, Joddy, Kenny Muney, and Snupe Bandz, as well as an appearance from Young Dolph himself. You can pre-save the project here and watch Key Glock’s “Proud” video above.
