Adam Driver Says He Skipped The ‘House Of Gucci’ Wrap Party Because He ‘Was Ready For It To Be Over’

Actor Adam Driver is widely celebrated for the sheer diversity of the characters he has played, easily transitioning from one role to the next and seeming to disappear into the people he plays. But when the director calls “that’s a wrap,” the two-time Oscar is generally happy to immediately shed that character and move on to the next part. It’s for this reason that he says he hasn’t been to a wrap party since Lena Dunham’s Girls, the series that shot him to stardom, said goodbye.

And Driver was elated to shed the persona of Maurizio Gucci, the one-time head of the Gucci family’s fashion brand, whom he plays in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci. In an interview with W Magazine, Driver admitted that the role was one of his toughest to date.

“I do not live in the same world as Maurizio Gucci,” Driver said. “The way he picks up things that are valuable and discards them, the way he is the most elegant man—those qualities were interesting to think about. But after 14 hours a day of being a Gucci, I was ready for it to be over.”

This cut-and-run tendency had become a bit of a habit for the actor. “In general, I leave jobs immediately,” he said. “I haven’t been to a wrap party since Girls. I just want to get the character out of my system and go home.”

Which might explain why taking on a recurring role in one of the biggest movie franchises in the history of cinema has been stressful for Driver, who refuses to watch himself onscreen. Back in November, as the New York Post reported, Driver told Graham Norton about how surreal some of what he has experienced as a key character in Star Wars has been.

When Norton asked whether Comic-Con was a fun time for Driver, his answer was an unequivocal “no.”

“I didn’t know the rules of Comic-Con,” he explained. “I got in at the hotel at two in the morning … and I’m like, ‘Maybe tomorrow I’ll go get a coffee.’ And they’re like, ‘Oh no, you can’t get a coffee.’ I’m like, ‘Well, maybe I’ll get a coffee in the hotel.’ They’re like, ‘No, you can’t get a coffee in the hotel.’”

Driver was told that if he wanted to venture outside for any reason, he would need to put on some sort of cosplay-y, Comic-Con-appropriate mask so that he wouldn’t be recognized, or mobbed. But it turned out that even just opening his hotel room window could also be a bit jarring.

“I opened my window because I’d been in the room for 24 hours before this thing we were supposed to do, and then there was a band at the bottom of the building playing the Star Wars theme on repeat, because [the cast was] all staying in the hotel,” Driver continued. “It was scary … I mean, it’s nice… [But] I’m not anxious to go again.”

‘The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper Confronted Matt Gaetz With A ‘Childish’ Question On The One-Year Anniversary Of January 6th

On the one-year anniversary of his cameraman (and democracy as we know it) getting attacked, The Daily Show‘s Jordan Klepper returned to Washington D.C. But this time, he’s ready. “Contact number in case I get thrown in jail,” he said while writing on his arm in Sharpie in the video above. “Money belt in case I need to bribe an Oath Keeper when they take over the city. If that doesn’t go down, I got Potbelly’s money.”

Klepper found a mostly quiet scene, with the exception of the guy in the New England Patriots hat yelling “f*ck you” at CNN’s John King during a live broadcast, and gruesome conservative twosome Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene hosting a press conference. “Hey, Matt Gaetz, if you’re going to reenact the events of January 6th, who is going to take a sh*t in the rotunda?” Kleeper asked the Florida representative, a reference to the rioters who smeared poop in the Capitol building. “And who’s going to make the gallows? Isn’t this a little bit childish, Matt? Or is that what attracts you to this?”

Gaetz did not respond, but don’t worry, “I’ll catch him at one of the other sedition reenactments,” Klepper joked.

Eminem Dismisses Gen-Z’s Attempts To Cancel Him On Cordae’s ‘Parables (Remix)’

Today marks the release of Cordae’s new album From A Birds Eye View, and the week leading up to it was an eventful one for the young rapper. On Monday, he stopped by The Tonight Show for an interview and performance of “Sinister/Chronicles,” and earlier that day, he unveiled the tracklist for his new project, which includes a feature from Eminem of “Parables (Remix),” a rework of his 2020 single. Now that the album is out, so too is the Em remix, which represents the rapper’s first new verse of 2022.

There are a few points of note in the verse, like when he addresses cancel culture: “Whipped Gen-Z into a frenzy, but no give is in me, I’m stingy / And that is the motherf*ckin’ difference between them and me.” He has a few name-drop moments as well, like, “So I treat a beat like it’s Tekashi, spit on that b*tch like Meek Mill,” and, “I was painfully shy, now I’m proud of myself / Like Obama’s kids, I came outta my shell (Michelle).”

This isn’t the first time Eminem and Cordae have linked up, as Cordae previously featured on Eminem’s 2021 remix of “Killer,” as did Jack Harlow.

A Joe Rogan Guest (Kind Of Shockingly) Called Him Out On One Of His Latest Bullsh*t Claims About The COVID Vaccines

In a rather monumental first, an actual SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL! made an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, and we have Australian radio personality Josh Szeps to thank for it. On the latest episode of the unfathomably popular podcast, the topic turned to COVID vaccines—something Rogan, who has admitted that he’s as dumb as a bag of hammers, is staunchly against. Why? Well, to hear Rogan tell it, it’s partly because of the many risks he claims are associated with it, reports Mediaite.

According to Rogan, the vaccines are particularly dangerous to young boys, because they can cause myocarditis, a dangerous inflammation of the heart muscle. “There’s like a two- to fourfold increase in the instances of myocarditis versus hospitalization,” Rogan said, but Szeps wasn’t buying it. “You know that there’s an increased risk in myocarditis among that age cohort from getting COVID as well—which exceeds the risk of myocarditis from the vaccine,” he replied. But Rogan didn’t think that was true, and told Szeps as much. Fortunately, Szeps brought receipts.

The podcast’s producers managed to track down an article from New Scientist, which is plainly titled “Myocarditis Is More Common After Covid-19 Infection Than Vaccination.”

“‘[Males aged] 12 to 17, were [most] likely to develop myocarditis within three months of catching COVID at a rate of 450 cases per million infections,’” Rogan read from the article. “‘This compares to 67 cases of myocarditis per million of the same age following their second dose of Pfizer.’” (His repeated attempts to say myocarditis without stumbling are hilarious, by the way.)

“Yeah, so you’re about eight times likelier to get myocarditis from getting COVID than from getting it from the vaccine,” Szeps explained.

“That’s interesting,” Rogan replied. “That is not what I’ve read before. But also, it’s like, even when we’re reading these things, it’s like, where are we getting this from?”

While it’s easier to imagine Rogan reading the nutritional panel on his energy drink can than it is picturing him reclining by a roaring fire with a glass of unpronounceable scotch and the latest copy of Frontiers in Neuroscience, even he seemed to know this wasn’t an argument he was going to win.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Rogan—given his estimated audience of 11 million listeners per podcast episode—has been one of the loudest and most prominent anti-vaccine voices people have heard. Which has worried medical professionals enough that, just this week, more than 250 doctors banded together to send an open letter to Spotify, calling on the company “to take action against the mass-misinformation events which continue to occur on its platform” by implementing a misinformation policy. So far, Spotify has yet to respond.

UPDATE: Rogan took to Twitter to address this moment on his show, blaming the “cringey” incident on him deciding to “wing it,” which kind of exactly the problem many people have with Joe Rogan and his podcast. Might not be a good idea to “wing it” when it comes to medicine and science?

Here’s Everything New On Netflix This Week, Including ‘After Life’ And ‘The Journalist’

We’re in the swing of 2022, sort of, even if things don’t feel the same as they did two “short” years ago. Fortunately, the Netflix faucet of content continued to run through the pandemic, and it’s still going in January. Before too long, we’ll see the return of Ozark for a finale season of Byrde-family money-laundering shenanigans. Before that happens, Ricky Gervais’ show returns to the streamer to remind us that even horribly tempered people can be fun to witness (from afar). In addition, there’s an intrigue-filled remake of a Japanese movie and a Nora Roberts-adapted thriller coming your way.

If those options don’t float your boat, there are some returning crowd favorites on the scene. The Cheer crew returns to spotlight the acrobatic competition, and Undercover‘s back for yet another round. A spooky show about an investigation into a cult and some Riverdance-franchise animation are also hoping to edge into your queues.

Here’s everything coming to (and leaving) the streaming platform this week.

After Life: Season 3 (Netflix series streaming 1/14)

Ricky Gervais returns as Tony, the widower who decided to not commit suicide out of impression but, instead, to take his angst out in the world. He fancies this attitude to be a Super Power, all while everyone around him grows concerned. This final season sees Tony still struggling with enormous grief but realizing that he actually enjoys making people feel good. It’s both an end and a beginning to this story, and here’s to the celebration of hope.

Cheer: Season 2 (Netflix series streaming 1/12)

The Emmy-winning drama of the cheerleading world returns with Navarro Cheer looking to defend their champion status against rivals against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic. Essentially, two charismatic coaches (one from Trinity Valley) are pitted against each other, and their teams will do anything it takes to be real contenders.

The Journalist: Season 1 (Netflix series streaming 1/14)

This adaptation of the 2019 Japan Academy Awards-winning movie similarly confronts Japanese scandals and political crimes in a controversial-yet-acclaimed way. The story follows a reporter, Anna Matsuda, who’s a “maverick” and keen to expose injustices within society.

Undercover: Season 3 (Netflix series streaming 1/10)

This season picks up with Bob fired from his cop job while also staring down some prison time. Elsewhere, Ferry gets sprung from prison, but his old life didn’t wait around for him to return. And meanwhile, a Turkish couple’s leading a much smarter gang than the one that previously ruled the roost.

Brazen (Netflix film streaming 1/14)

Alyssa Milano stars as a celebrity mystery/crime author, who’s attempting to figure out who murdered her estranged sister (who’s been secretly making a living as a webcam performer). Naturally, Milano’s Grace ends up diving into the case, against the advice of Sam Page’s detective.

Archive 81 (Netflix series streaming 1/14)

Follow this spooky show about an archivist who decides to restore a bunch of supposedly damaged videotapes that hail back to the mid-1990s. Never a good sign, right? Soon enough, he’s embroiled in investigating a dangerous cult, and there are timelines colliding and the archivist attempting to save a life, decades into the past. Sounds supernaturally thrilling, to say the very least.

Riverdance: The Animated Adventure (Netflix film streaming 1/14)

You’ll never be able to stop thinking about the live-action incarnation from the 1990s, but in this show, a young Irish boy and a Spanish girl end up drawn into this celebration of life. This movie’s inspired by the stage show with new music from Bill Whelan (the Grammy winner) and pulls these kids into the Megaloceros Giganteus’ mythical realm with the voices of Pierce Brosnan, Brendan Gleeson, Lilly Singh, and Jermaine Fowler.

Wale And Blxst Assist Murda Beatz For ‘One Shot’ On Their Confident Track

Last year proved to be exciting and successful years for both Blxst and Wale. The former reaped the benefits of his No Love Lost project throughout 2021 in addition to teaming up with Bino Rideaux for Sixtape 2. Blxst also made appearances on The Tonight Show and on the 2021 XXL Freshman class list. As for Wale, he released his Folarin II album, one that proved to be a well-executed sequel to his 2012 mixtape. Now, for the first time ever, the two artists are bringing their talents together for a new song. Thanks to some help from producer Murda Beatz, the trio unite for “One Shot.”

On the new song, Wale and Blxst offer a woman one chance to join them and reap the benefits of their lavish lifestyles. While the duo extends a hand to the woman in question, they also note that they’ll be okay with or without her. The new track arrives after Murda Beatz teamed up with West Coast rapper Shordie Shordie for their Memory Lane project last year. It presented 12 songs with a lone feature from Trippie Redd.

As for what’s next, fans can expect more music from Murda Beatz who produced for Chloe Bailey, EST Gee, Nardo Wick, and more in 2021. Wale kicked off his Under A Blue Moon Tour earlier this week and he’ll continue to tour the country until early March. Lastly, Blxst will continue to release new music, with his last being the romantic “About You,” as he’ll hopefully have a new project to treat us with at some point this year.

King Princess And Fousheé Connect On The Jumpy And Electric ‘Little Bother’

Sometimes the most unexpected collaborations are the best ones. That just might be the case for a new song from left-field queer pop star King Princess that dropped tonight, featuring Uproxx cover star Fousheé, who leans much more R&B. “Little Bother” goes a little bit harder than some of KP’s mellower stuff, and that might actually be a preview of what the rest of her second album is going to sound like. According to King Princess, aka Mikaela Straus, their second album is basically done and in the mixing stage.

“I’m really excited to give you KP2. I’m mixing her right now. In the meantime I have a sexy song for you with queen @FousheeLive called “Little Bother” presave in bio ;)))),” Strauss wrote on Twitter last night, before excitedly updating fans and her collaborator tonight: “It’s out @FousheeLive.”

The song is a reflection on a relationship where Strauss sings about feeling like “a little bother,” and Fousheé takes the second verse, offering up a similar lament. Though it’s not quite clear if the song is on the next King Princess album, or just a loosie for fans to enjoy while they wait, it’s an excellent piece of dark pop that bodes well for the new project. Raveena Adds A Bollywood Twist To The Silky, Acid Trip-Inspired ‘Rush’

Raveena is a rare Indian-American voice that’s emerging in pop and R&B. Her heavenly delivery has helped her stand out since the release of her dashing 2019 debut, Lucid, and she’s beginning to unfold the next chapter in her career. Having just signed to Warner Records, Raveena’s latest single, “Rush” meets at the intersection of sweet, sensual R&B, with the sounds of her Indian roots.

The technicolor-soaked video for “Rush,” in fact opens with Bollywood-like choreography as Raveena muses in a song that came to her in an acid trip at a museum exhibition on Eastern sound. An Indian tabla drum steps into the middle of the song and carries the groove into a cinematic second movement. Raveena shed some light on what she’s beginning to build on this next step of her sound:

“I wrote ‘Rush’ a couple years back and the song was the genesis of me exploring a more intense marriage between Bollywood sounds and the pop/R&B music that I grew up on in America. The song and video are centered around a character I created named Asha, a Punjabi space princess who is transported to a distant planet and learns highly advanced spiritual intelligence from the beings that live there. In the video that I co-directed with Munachi, I wanted to create a campy ode to the colorful 80’s Bollywood movies and 70’s Western sci-fi movies that I’m obsessed with, complete with a choreographed dance sequence alongside Asha’s alien friends.”

Listen to and watch the video for “Rush” above.
