Adam Driver Will Get To Try Out His Italian Accent Again In Michael Mann’s Ferrari Biopic

Adam Driver has been cast in Michael Mann‘s passion project– an Enzo Ferrari biopic based on Brock Yates’ book Enzo Ferrari – The Man and the Machine. Driver will be joined by his House Of Gucci co-star Penélope Cruz, and Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley. Production is slated to begin in Italy this spring.

Director Michael Mann said of the casting, “Being able to have these wonderfully talented artists, actors Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley, bring to life these unique characters on location in Modena and the Emilia-Romagna is a vision fulfilled.” Mann has famously been working on the film for nearly two decades. Hugh Jackman was attached to the project earlier.

The story of Enzo Ferrari will take place in 1959, when the race-car driver is facing bankruptcy, and decides to do a 1,000-mile race across Italy.

Mann has acquired numerous accolades over the years, including four Academy Award nominations. Cruz was recently nominated for an Oscar for her work in last year’s Parallel Mothers. While Driver wasn’t nominated for his role of Maurizio Gucci in House Of Gucci, he was nominated for his roles in BlacKkKlansman and Marriage Story in 2019 and 2021, respectively. He didn’t win, but he does have a Teen Choice Award for his role in Star Wars, which is better than nothing.

Influential Funk Icon Betty Davis Has Died At The Age Of 77

Betty Davis, the pioneering icon of funk and soul music who was at one time married to jazz legend Miles Davis, has passed away at the age of 77 according to Rolling Stone. Ethnomusicologist Danielle Maggio, who performed on Davis’ 2019 song “A Little Bit Hot Tonight” — the singer’s first in 40 years — confirmed Davis’ death of natural causes.

Although Davis did not have a vast collection of mega-hits to her name, she proved to be one of the most influential musicians of the 1970s funk movement, developing a cult following and growing in public esteem in more recent years due to her music receiving more recognition in pop culture, with placements of television series such as High Fidelity, Mixed-ish, and Orange Is The New Black. Miles Davis also credited his ex-wife — his second after Frances Davis — with introducing him to Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone, leading to his experimental jazz fusion work in the ’70s.

Betty recorded four albums during the period: Betty Davis, They Say I’m Different, Nasty Gal, and Is It Love Or Desire? although the last of the four wasn’t released until 2009. Musicians who played on her albums included members of the Family Stone, Buddy Miles, Herbie Hancock, and more, although she became disillusioned with the music industry and retired after the release of Nasty Gal in 1975. Contemporary artists who cite her as an influence include Erykah Badu, Jamila Woods, and Janelle Monae.

Jimmy Kimmel Drags The Oscars For Choosing ‘Don’t Look Up’ Over ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ For Best Picture

During his Tuesday night monologue, long-time Marvel fan Jimmy Kimmel blasted the Academy Awards for not giving one of its 10 Best Picture nominations to Spider-Man: No Way Home. The late night comedian couldn’t believe the film was passed over for Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, which Kimmel clearly was not a fan of.

“Forget the fact that the movie made $750 million [in the U.S.] and is still going,” Kimmel said in defense of No Way Home. “This was a great movie. It wasn’t in the top 10 best movies of the year? There were three Spider-Men in it. You’re telling me ‘Don’t Look Up’ was better than ‘Spider-Man?’ It most certainly was not.”

But that wasn’t the only jab that Kimmel took at Don’t Look Up. After comparing the two films Rotten Tomatoes score (Spidey had 90% to Don’t Look Up‘s 46%), the late night host accused Academy voters of being star struck by the Netflix film’s cast. Via Variety:

You wanna know what happened? Voters looked at the list and saw the names Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep and they checked the box and then they put their kids in the car and went to see the movie ‘Spider-Man.’ And they loved it! But they didn’t vote for it.

While Kimmel’s life-long dream of being a comic book artist and his love for the medium is well-documented, it probably should be noted that ABC and Marvel are both owned by Disney. Not to take anything away from Kimmel’s passionate love for Spider-Man, but just doing our journalistic diligence.

Jimmy Fallon asked his viewers why their high school was ‘weird’ and the responses were great

High schools are a perfect breeding ground for weirdness. First of all, you have a bunch of teenagers who are starting to deal with adult problems but they don’t have the experience or the brain development to figure out how to navigate complex feelings and relationships.

Then you add sex, drugs, learner’s permits, the stress of trying to get into college and really bad facial hair to the situation and you have all the ingredients for people and situations to go completely sideways.

Then there are the teachers. High school teachers tend to be a bit more eccentric than those in the younger grades because they are hired as specialists in a given field, such as history, math or science. Whereas teachers in younger grades have to be nurturing and have a more holistic approach to child development.

Also, hindsight makes a lot of things that seemed normal at the time begin to seem a bit strange. As we get older and have a firm grasp on the realities of being an adult, there are some things that we can’t believe we lived through as teenagers in high school.

When I was in high school we had a drama teacher that sat in the gym and chain-smoked while we rehearsed the play and we didn’t think anything of it. I’m pretty sure my home economics teacher hit the cooking sherry during lunchtime, and we got a day off from school due to the L.A. riots in 1992.

Everyone dealt with some amount of weirdness while they were in high school, so Jimmy Fallon asked his “Tonight Show” audience to share their stories with #MyHighSchoolWasWeird and he read some of his favorites on his show.

We took a look at the hashtag and picked some of the responses we liked the most. Here are 19 of them. Why was your high school weird? Tell us in the comments on Facebook.

If you look back at how you acted, dressed and behaved in high school and have a little bit of shame, that’s probably a good thing. If you cringe a little when you think about your former self, that shows that you’ve grown as a person.

But wouldn’t it be great if you could go back to high school knowing what you know now? How much easier would it be to approach that special person you wanted to ask to the dance but couldn’t muster up the courage? How much more would you appreciate those carefree days when all you had to worry about was a bio test or who had a crush on whom in homeroom?

Personally, if I went back to high school I’d have a lot more appreciation for my teachers knowing just how hard of a job they have. Now that I’m an adult I have a lot more sympathy for what we put them through and I can totally understand why teaching at a high school can turn someone a little weird.

Here’s Jimmy Fallon reading off some of his responses to #MyHighSchoolWasWeird.

Her sons started playing her favorite song. Pure, unbridled joy ensued.

We all have that song that gets us every time. No matter our mood, no matter where we are or who we’re with, when the rhythm starts popping, we just have to dance.

Okay, maybe not all of us. But if you know, you know. And this Punjabi momma knows.

Self-described actor and prankster Gagandeep Anand shared a video on TikTok and Instagram of him and his brother Ishwardeep surprising their mom by playing her favorite song. She was cooking in the kitchen when Gagandeep walked in with a stereo and Ishwardeep with a dhol (a traditional Indian drum) and as soon as they started playing, her face lit up like a firework.

Then the most joyful 30 seconds of dancing took place, right there in the Anand kitchen.

The song, “Dhol Jageero Da” by Master Saleem, is commonly played at weddings in Northern India. It’s a song that’s hard not to dance to just by its nature, but Momma Anand clearly has her own personal history with it. The sheer joy she exudes as she drops her cooking to break into dance? Infectious. And her disappointment when the music stops? Just precious.

Her smile and youthful energy, holy moly. And when Gagandeep said he has to dance when he sees his momma dance was adorable. If only they hadn’t stopped the music so quickly.

People are loving the video, claiming Momma Anand as their own and delighting in her delight.

“Your momma?” one commenter wrote. “She is now our Momma.”

“She literally got younger the moment the music started,” wrote another person.

“OMG I’ve watched this too many times….she was so happy, I couldn’t stop smiling,” wrote another.

Others scolded the boys for leaving her hanging:

“How y’all gonna tease mom like that… her favorite part was coming up.”

“You better go back right now and do it again for her!!!”

“YOU GO BACK IN THERE AND FINISH HER SONG RIGHT NOW!!”

Gagandeep frequently features his mom (and dad) in his videos, which usually feature silly pranks. And Momma Anand has her own Instagram page too, where she shares cooking tips.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard’s kids sleep in their bedroom. Should you do it, too?

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell have never been shy about their parenting strategies. The couple caused a stir last year when Bell said she’ll wait up to five or six days before bathing her girls depending on whether they smell or not.

“I’m a big fan of waiting for the stink,” she said jokingly, according to E.T. Online. “Once you catch a whiff, that’s biology’s way of letting you know you need to clean it up.”

Bell also admitted the sex talk she attempted with her daughters fell on deaf ears because it was so boring. Bell and Shepard have two daughters, Lincoln, 8, and Delta, 7.

On Monday’s episode of Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, the couple admitted they let their daughters sleep in their room. “You know the girls sleep on the floor of our bedroom,” she said, according to Yahoo.

The admission came before the couple shared a story of a mysterious smell that took over their bedroom. “A few nights ago, I smell a really raunchy smell, and I’m like, ‘Who’s farting?’” she said. “All three of them are like, ‘Sorry, it’s me.’ So, I’m like, OK, my family has gas.

“In the morning, I’m like, wow, nobody’s gas has dissipated. But it also smells like it’s burning,” she continued.

Bell washed the sheets of the bed and opened some windows in the room, but the smell persisted. The next day, Bell finally realized that it was the Ooler mattress pad. Oolers need water to work and Shepard accidentally poured a protein shake inside instead.

As a parent, I gotta say that the idea of sharing my wife and I’s bedroom with two kids every night sounds like a bad idea. First, it’s hard enough to get a good night’s sleep with another person and a dog in the bed, but a pair of kids adds another dimension of disruptions.

That’s two more people waking up to go to the bathroom, tossing and turning, and passing gas.

Bell and Shepard’s story raises an important question: Is co-sleeping good for kids?

According to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), as many as 24% of parents have their children sleep in their beds for at least part of the night.

“There are two reasons for co-sleeping,” NSF spokeswoman Jodi Mindell, author of “Sleeping Through the Night,” says. “One is a family lifestyle decision; it’s important to the parents. Reason two is reactive co-sleeping. You don’t really want them there, but it’s easier than having to solve a problem at 2 a.m. No matter which you do, at some point, you’ll want to make a change.”

Lynelle Schneeberg, Psy.D., director of the behavioral sleep program at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, told Parents.com that even though there are some benefits to co-sleeping, it’s much more important to raise children who are confident, independent sleepers.

Dr. Schneeberg says that children who go to bed in their parents’ room can develop a sleep crutch that makes it difficult for them to fall asleep when they’re alone.

“They may be misdiagnosed as anxious because, since they have a hard time falling asleep without a parent nearby, they sometimes display anxious behaviors to convince a parent to stay nearby at bedtime,” Dr. Schneeberg explained.

It can be tough for the parents’ relationship as well.

“I’ve seen many families in which one parent—most often, the father—ends up sleeping in a different room entirely,” she said. “The parent with the children often becomes exhausted by either the restless sleep of the kids or the needs of each kid after an awakening.”

Obviously, Bell and Shepard know what’s right for their family so we’re not judging them as parents. But their story is a great excuse to discuss the issue of sleep because it plays such a big role in our physical and mental health.

And as a parent, I know that there’s nothing better for your mental health than having a child who sleeps through the night. In their own room.

One Of Snoop Dogg And Dr. Dre’s Most Iconic Songs Might Not Make The Super Bowl Setlist

Halftime at this Sunday’s Super Bowl LVI promises to be a total smash when Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar take the stage for the Pepsi Halftime Show at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium on February 13. But even though they’ve had months to plan their performances, Snoop Dogg’s setlist might not be finalized yet.

In an interview with the Associated Press, the West Coast rap legend spoke about the nerves he’s feeling right now. “I’m not going to understand it until it happens,” he told the AP. “While it’s happening, I’m in the zone. I’m stuck to the script, laser focused, being on point, sounding good, looking good and feeling good. I want to give off a great presentation. After the fact, it’s when I’ll be nervous about watching it to see what the reaction is. But while I’m going through it, it’s nothing.”

More notably, though, Snoop indicated that he wasn’t sure yet if he would perform his iconic 1994 track “Gin & Juice.” The song was produced by Dr. Dre and it would really cement the feel of being in Los Angeles (Inglewood, to be exact) for the Super Bowl. He said the most important thing is being there with the rest of the performers and purveying a message of unity: “We’re all one. We’re all united together. If you really look at it, that’s what the world needs to understand that we need to come together as opposed to division or separation.”

Three Keys For The Cincinnati Bengals To Win Super Bowl LVI

The Cincinnati Bengals arrive at Super Bowl LVI as one of the NFL’s biggest surprises, a team well ahead of schedule, with a young roster that doesn’t have enough scar tissue to be concerned about much of anything.

Joe Burrow is the focal point, and for good reason. The second-year star quarterback has embodied the confidence that exudes throughout the Bengals locker room, leading an offense that is one of the most explosive in the league despite some shaky play up front. He’s surrounded by some terrific skill position talent, headlined by Ja’Marr Chase, who some believe to be the heir apparent to the crown of best receiver in the game.

However, this Bengals team hasn’t gotten to the Super Bowl simply by bludgeoning other teams in shootouts, instead finding some well-timed balance this postseason with a defense that has been stingy when it matters most. It isn’t a defense full of household names like the one on the other sideline, but they have been rock solid through three playoff games and are brimming with confidence after shutting down the vaunted Chiefs attack for the entirety of the second half of the AFC title game.

Still, Cincinnati comes into L.A. as 4.5-point underdogs against the Rams. If they are going to pull the upset, there are a few areas they’ll have to excel in.

Quick Passing Game

It’d be disingenuous to make a key “protect Joe Burrow,” because let’s face it, this Bengals offensive line isn’t going to suddenly become an impenetrable wall that gives Burrow time all game. They also probably aren’t going to be able to run the ball particularly effectively between the tackles, which means the best way to alleviate pressure on their young quarterback is for the quick passing game to find success. Screens will certainly be a part of that, and we saw how their screen game can be a big boost in the AFC title game when Samaje Perine broke a 41-yard touchdown to get the Bengals into the end zone for the first time.

However, this goes beyond screens, as the Bengals receivers are going to have to get quick separation and Burrow is going to have to be sharp with his reads to hit the open man early in the play. Getting Chase involved in that, even as he’s expected to see plenty of attention from Jalen Ramsey and the Rams secondary, will be important. Tee Higgins also figures to play a crucial role in that short passing game given the attention Chase demands, and if he can work the short-to-intermediate routes to help move the sticks and keep the Bengals offense on the field, Cincinnati can find some spots for the shot plays with the occasional max protect call or moving the pocket to buy Burrow a little time. Forcing the Rams line to be thinking about getting hands up for those underneath routes rather than pinning their ears back to get to Burrow is going to be important for Cincinnati to find consistent offense.

Getting Pressure With Four

This is an area where the Bengals have been terrific all season. They blitz only 20.5 percent of the time (the seventh fewest in the NFL) but are 14th in the league in hurry rate (10.8 percent), which is a testament to Trey Hendrickson, Sam Hubbard, and the rest of their defensive front. Losing Larry Ogunjobi hurts their ability to create pressure from the interior of the line, but Hendrickson and Hubbard showed in the second half of the AFC title game how they can wreak havoc without needing additional help.

That is particularly important against a team like the Rams, which is among the best in the NFL at creating big plays in the passing game. L.A. was third in 20-plus yard pass plays (65) and first in 40-plus yard pass plays (18) during the regular season, and when given time to work downfield routes, Cooper Kupp, Odell Beckham Jr., and Van Jefferson are very difficult to keep up with. Being able to keep safety help over the top and still getting pressure on Stafford is the best way to not only keep a lid on the Rams’ big play abilities, but also to create turnovers by Stafford, who is still prone to the occasional poor decision under pressure. If the Bengals defense can give their offense a short field a time or two, that’s the type of thing that can swing this Super Bowl in their favor.

Second Half Adjustments

The constant thread of this postseason has been the incredible job done by this Bengals team and coaching staff — particularly on the defensive side of the ball — to make halftime adjustments to take away the focal point of the other team’s game plan. The Rams are as good as there is in the NFL at coming out hot when on script, as they did against Arizona and Tampa, but they also have an unfortunate tendency to turtle up a bit once they take a lead. The Bengals have been as resilient a team as we’ve seen this postseason, and while they surely would like to not find themselves behind early on, there has to be a lot of confidence in that locker room that they can take an early punch and come back with the necessary counters to get them across the finish line.

Against a Rams team that can get tight, the Bengals will want to simply stay in touch early and then lean on their ability to adjust as a team, because few teams have been better at stringing together stops in key spots late in games and pouncing as the other team starts to pucker up.

Zac Efron Has A Burning Desire To Stop A Young Girl From Setting The World Ablaze In The ‘Firestarter’ Trailer

Another day, another Stephen King movie. But Firestarter is worth getting excited for.

The second adaptation of the author’s 1980 novel doesn’t star Drew Barrymore, but it does have Zac Efron, Sydney Lemmon (Jennifer from Succession; also seen here sharing a photo of Larry David in front of a Helstrom poster), and Ryan Kiera Armstrong as a creepy little girl with pyrokinetic abilities. The score was composed by John Carpenter — yes, that John Carpenter — who was the original choice to direct the 1984 movie until The Thing bombed at the box office, and Universal went with Mark L. Lester instead.

Here’s the official plot summary:

For more than a decade, parents Andy (Zac Efron) and Vicky (Sydney Lemmon) have been on the run, desperate to hide their daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) from a shadowy federal agency that wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction. Andy has taught Charlie how to defuse her power, which is triggered by anger or pain. But as Charlie turns 11, the fire becomes harder and harder to control. After an incident reveals the family’s location, a mysterious operative (Michael Greyeyes) is deployed to hunt down the family and seize Charlie once and for all. Charlie has other plans.

Firestarter will be released in theaters and on Peacock on May 13.
