Murders At Starved Rock (HBO, 8:00 & 9:00pm) — A 60-year-old murder mystery rears its head with the convicted killer (Chester Weger) behind bars while seeking exoneration (and insisting that he’s innocent). David Raccuglia presents the fruits of 15 years of research while attempting to uncover the truth about the crimes committed by the local “bogeyman.” This rural community runs on rumors and opinions, and the townspeople are clearly divided with grey areas and alleged police misconduct in this case, which might make everyone involved question what they thought they knew.
The Future Diary (Netflix film) — This reality-series reboot involves two people who accept roles in a romantic storyline with an actual rough “script,” which leads to a semi-fictional relationship of sorts, and viewers can decide whether or not they think this thing is real.
Gordon Ramsay’s Road Trip (FOX, 8:00pm) — The chef and his friends are busting through Europe (including Italy, France, and Scotland), and in this episode, they visit Santa Claus’ winter wonderland.
Riverdale (CW, 9:00pm) — Jughead’s eternal search for answers might finally lead to the “Rivervale” truth, if he’s not completely unnerved in the process.

The Slow Hustle (HBO Max) — Director Sonja Sohn (The Wire) does the documentary drill here while exploring the still-unsolved death of a Baltimore police detective. Through a series of candid interviews a deep-dive into the evidence, the mystery of Sean Suiter’s 2017 death leaves no stone untouched. Was it a hit job or a suicide? Multiple theories will surface here, along with a through examination, all while exploring the complex nature of policing in America.
In The Eye, music’s most intriguing up-and-coming artists take to an intimate and sparse studio space to perform their best songs with just one microphone and one take. Next up is somebody whose music you’ve almost certainly heard before: Masked Wolf.
The Greek-Australian rapper is best known for “Astronaut In The Ocean,” which he originally released in the summer of 2019 and which saw some success in Australia at the time. The track blew up on a global scale, though, when it started gaining traction on TikTok in late 2020 and was subsequently re-released by Masked Wolf’s new label, Elektra, in January of this year. The track was more than a passing fad: In TikTok’s recently shared slew of year-end data, it was revealed that the song was the platform’s most popular track of 2021 worldwide, beating out hits by artists like The Kid Laroi, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B. Furthermore, it ended up rising to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Since “Astronaut In The Ocean” took off, Masked Wolf has been able to leverage the success into some big-time collaborations: His recently released singles include the X Ambassadors-featuring “Razor’s Edge” and the Bebe Rexha collaboration “It’s You, Not Me (Sabotage).”
Now, he finds himself in The Eye. While most artists in this setting tend to strip down their songs to the core elements, Masked Wolf instead kept the full instrumentation intact for “Astronaut In The Ocean,” which, as the original song does, allowed the rapper to flex his verbal dexterity with his rhythmic and often rapid-fire lines.
He took the same approach for the other two songs he performed, “Pandemonium” and “Paper Planes,” a couple of album tracks from Astronomical, which was just released back in September. While “Pandemonium” has a swaggering and aggressive tone, “Paper Planes” is a more vulnerable and less in-your-face tune in which Masked Wolf gets candid about his struggles with depression. All in all, the three performances show that the rapper is capable of more than just his one massive hit.
In an interview with The Eye, Masked Wolf explained why he thinks his debut single “Speed Racer” was a “breakout” moment for him and how it led to “Astronaut In The Ocean,” saying, “It was really where I found a way to describe what I’m talking about in a song, have an actual storyline of what I wanted to speak about. The most important part was the listeners being able to grab that, not about me just writing it. And then from that, ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’ came, and that’s when I started writing and rapping at the mic with a story and imagery.”

After a three-year hiatus, the New Orleans festival will be back along the banks of the Mississippi River in the Lower Garden District near the imposing defunct Market Street Power Plant from March 25th – 26th. Tyler The Creator and Tame Impala are titanic headliners at the top of this one, but it doesn’t stop there. Arena-rockers Glass Animals and Colombian-American pop superstar Kali Uchis are joining them on the bill along with surging rappers Tierra Whack, Trippie Redd, and Baby Keem. There’s also a concerted effort to reflect electronic music and artists like Porter Robinson, Allison Wonderland, Lane 8, and Rezz lead a formidable slate. There’s also a focus on local New Orleans artists too from the hip-hop of Glbl Wrmng (who put out 0ne of our best sleeper albums of 2021), Neno Calvin, and 504icygrl, to the dubstep of Tvboo and sfam.
Buku prides itself on a “festival experience that proudly reflects the progressive, artistic, and diverse subculture of New Orleans.” The lineup is just one aspect of an event that features indoor and outdoor stages, art installations, pop-up breakdancing, live graffiti art, etc… Buku also partners with the Take Action project (TAP) to use the fest’s platform “to elevate awareness around issues of various social & environmental justice issues.” TAP and the music education nonprofit Upbeat Academy will receive a portion of proceeds from all tickets sales.

As the year winds down, Jhene Aiko gives fans plenty to look forward to for the new year, although she hasn’t let on whether that means the follow-up to her Grammy-nominated 2020 album, Chilombo, or more collaborations. For now, it’s enough to get cozy by the fire with her latest single, “Wrap Me Up.”
Aiko’s new single isn’t quite a traditional holiday song, but it has elements that allow it to fit into the overall spirit of the season, like jingling bells and tinkling piano keys. She also uses imagery that uses some of the hallmarks of the genre as she mentions gifts, mistletoe, and references to “Silent Night.” It’s a pretty, emotional song that highlights the love the holiday season should bring. “Wrap me all up with your love,” she sings. “All that I want, fill me up, fill me all up with your love.”
Although Jhene hadn’t released a new project in 2021, she remained relatively visible thanks to a series of collaborations with the likes of Ty Dolla Sign and Bryson Tiller (“By Yourself“), Swae Lee (“In The Dark“), and Moneybagg Yo (“One Of Dem Nights“). She also re-released her breakout mixtape Sailing Soul(s).

These bottles are generally easy to find (or available via delivery) and are unique enough to stand out from other gifts. While many of them are from well-known brands, we tried to pick some rarer or smaller releases from those brands.

Nashville Barrel Company is offering some of the most unique single barrel offerings in the game right now. The juice from Indiana is carefully selected by an industry professional — in this case UPROXX friend, Bevridge co-founder, and Single Malt Daily founder Nate Gana.
Gana chose a five-year-old bourbon and bottled it with NBC at cask strength with zero cutting or filtering. Only 198 bottles made it to shelves.
Tasting Notes:
The bourbon opens with a rush of classic bourbon notes with woody spice, dark caramel, corn husks, and a slight tropical fruit vibe that leans towards bananas and dried coconut. The palate toasts that coconut as rich vanilla and buttery toffee leads towards a holiday spice mix with dry nuts (more walnut than pecan) and a whisper of bitter black tea. The mid-palate sweetens with the fruit and toffee before leading back to a spicy dark chocolate tobacco dry leaf, leaving you warmed to the core.
Bottom Line:
This is a great one-off bottle for MGP hounds looking for unique single barrel bottlings. As of this writing, there were only 40 or so bottles left for sale, so you’ll want to hurry if you want to stuff one of these in a stocking this year.
This is Woodinville’s award-winning bourbon with no proofing at all. The juice is a grain-to-glass experience with locally grown Washington grains (corn, rye, and barley), matured in Washington state for around five years. After those five years, barrels are hand-selected for their precise flavor and are small-batched and bottled as is.
Tasting Notes:
Dried cherries and plums mingle with a hint of tobacco spice, soft cedar, vanilla husks, and cornmeal on the nose. The body of the sip leans into almost burnt toffee sweetness and bitterness that leads towards dark chocolate-covered almonds with a touch of salt with more of that spicy tobacco and a hint more of fruit. The end is long and touches on the soft wood, tobacco, nuttiness, bitter chocolate, and a hint of sweet/savory fruit (kind of like honey-roasted pumpkin).
Bottom Line:
Woodinville puts out so many great expressions that it’s hard picking just one. Their Cask Strength is one of the more unique versions of their bourbon and really hits on the beautiful flavor profile that makes the juice from just outside of Seattle shine.
This expression uses six of Four Rose’s ten whiskeys in their small-batching process. The idea is to blend both high and low-rye bourbons with yeast strains that highlight “delicate fruit,” “slight spice,” and “herbal notes.” The whiskeys tend to spend at least six years in the barrel before blending and proofing with just a touch of Kentucky’s soft limestone water.
Tasting Notes:
Raspberry and cloves mix with old oak on the nose and boy, does it draw you in. The palate amps up the dark berry sweetness with a bit of tartness, as a stone fruit vibe comes into play. The spice heightens and leans more Christmas spice with a focus on nutmeg. Finally, a wisp of fresh mint arrives to counterpoint the whole sip as the oak, vanilla, fruit, and spice all slowly fade out.
Bottom Line:
Four Roses Small Batch Select is a great bottle of bourbon that also has a very cool bottle. The presentation alone makes this feel like a solid gift bourbon. The beautiful whiskey inside is the cherry on top.
The team over at Wilderness Trail continues to wow with last year’s 6-year-old Wheated Bourbon release. The juice is a mash bill of 64 percent corn, 24 percent wheat, and 12 percent malted barley and uses co-founder Dr. Pat’s (yes, he’s a real doctor) proprietary yeast. The juice is then aged in their main warehouse where it’s moved to a new floor every one of those six years, allowing a little extra magic to happen in the barrel.
Tasting Notes:
The nose draws you in with a cinnamon-heavy pecan pie with a lard-hewn crust next to hints of wet pine. The palate leans into the corn syrup of the pecan pie while the cinnamon draws you towards an apple tobacco chew with a touch of caramel and vanilla lurking in the background. The finish doesn’t overstay its welcome and holds onto the cinnamon and pie vibes, ending on a fruity tobacco buzz.
Bottom Line:
This could be any bottle of Wilderness Trail. It’s a great gift bottle for any whiskey drinker who wants to really lean into the nerdy side of the craft.
Kentucky Peerless Distilling takes its time for a true grain-to-glass experience. Their Single Barrel Bourbon is crafted with a fairly low-rye mash bill and fermented with a sweet mash as opposed to a sour mash (that means they use 100 percent new grains, water, and yeast with each new batch instead of holding some of the mash over to start the next one like a sourdough starter, hence the name). The barrels are then hand-selected for their taste and bottled completely un-messed with.
Tasting Notes:
Naturally, this will vary ever so slightly, but expect notes of blackberry next to worn leather, rich toffee, vanilla oils, and wet tobacco leaves. The taste holds onto the toffee and vanilla as the tobacco dries out and spices up, with touches of cedar bark and a few bitter espresso beans. The end is long, holds onto the vanilla and tobacco, and touches back on the berries as it fades through your senses.
Bottom Line:
Sticking with crafty bourbon, this is one of the absolute best bourbons from a small and independent distillery. The bourbon is stellar and the bottle is bespoke, sending its potential as a gift sky high.
This wheated bourbon is a small-batch masterpiece. The juice is a blend of up to 19 barrels from the Maker’s warehouses. The whiskies are hand-selected according to distinct flavor characteristics to build a masterful end product. Once the whisky is married, it goes into the bottle at cask strength, unfiltered, and ready to drink.
Tasting Notes:
There’s a clear sense of bourbon vanilla on the nose with touches of burnt caramel, charred oak, and a hint of dry bales of straw. The taste brings about a spicy tobacco chewiness that’s cut with more vanilla and hints of dried apricot. The end is slow, leaves your tongue buzzing with tobacco and spice, and has a mellow vanilla roundness.
Bottom Line:
It’s likely most bourbon drinkers know Maker’s Mark. This expression is the purest form of Maker’s and always shines. Plus, these will vary slightly every year, meaning that you could give one of these every year and have something worth drinking and collecting.
Jefferson’s Ocean is an experiment in finishing that’s pretty unique. The blenders pull in six to eight-year-old whiskeys sourced from four Kentucky distilleries. They marry those barrels and then re-barrel the whiskey, load them onto a ship, and sail those barrels around the world for almost a year. The best of those barrels are married and bottled at cask strength with no additional fussing.
Tasting Notes:
There’s a clear crème brûlée vibe on the nose with touches of orange zest, cinnamon toast, slightly singed marshmallow. The taste dives into salted caramel notes with hints of Almond Joys covered in dark chocolate next to a savory fruit edge. That fruit turns figgy as the end fades slowly, hitting on spicy tobacco warmth and a final touch of fresh mint.
Bottom Line:
There really isn’t another whiskey out there like this one. It’s truly unique in its aging process and really does deliver a highly drinkable and beautiful whiskey. This is another one that slightly changes year by year, which amps up its cool factor as a gift.
Belle Meade, the blending arm of Nashville’s Nelson Green Brier, sources some of the best barrels for their expressions. This whiskey is a hand-selected, marrying of high-rye (30 percent) seven to eleven-year-old bourbons that are bottled at nearly barrel strength (it’s just touched with water when needed) and allowing the juice in the barrel to speak for itself.
Tasting Notes:
Cornmeal that’s been spiked with stewed and spicy peaches, caramel, soft wood, and vanilla greet you. The sip really leans into the classic bourbon vibes on the palate with an apple pie with plenty of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg inside a buttery crust with hints of cedar, library leather, and tobacco chew. Hints of raisins and walnuts arrive late in that apple pie as the sip slowly fades, leaving you warmed and wanting more.
Bottom Line:
This is just a damn fine whiskey that feels special in every way. You cannot go wrong wrapping up one of these bottles this year.
Jimmy Russell hand selects eight to nine-year-old barrels from his warehouses for their individual taste and quality. Those barrels are then cut down ever-so-slightly to 101 proof and bottled with their barrel number and warehouse location.
Tasting Notes:
There’s a roundness to this sip that’s enticing. The nose is a classic mix of bold vanilla, baking spice, oak, and fruity sweetness. That fruit edges towards dark berries with notes of worn leather, aged oakiness, and a sweet and rose-water-forward marzipan nuttiness shining through. The end lasts a while on your palate and in your senses, leaving you warmed up and wanting more.
Bottom Line:
Again, most whiskey drinkers have heard of Wild Turkey but a lot fewer have had a chance to try this single barrel release from the brand. This is slowly becoming one of our favorite Wild Turkey releases and would be a welcome gift under any tree.
This year’s Remus Repeal Reserve V is a hell of a whiskey. The MGP of Indiana (now Ross & Squibb) signature bourbon is comprised of nine percent 2005 bourbon with a 21 percent high-rye mash, five percent 2006 bourbon with a very high-rye mash of 36 percent of the sticky grain, 19 percent 2006 bourbon with the same 21 percent high-rye mash, 13 percent 2008 bourbon with that 21 percent rye mash, and 54 percent 2008 bourbon with the 36 percent high-rye mash.
Tasting Notes:
The nose on this is brilliantly fruity with touches of fresh raspberries, strawberries resting in dry straw, candied cherries, freshly peeled mandarins, apple cores and stems, and a touch of caramel malts. That caramel sweetness merges into a fresh honeycomb next to Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda vanilla flavor and pep while the fruit dries out, leaving you with meaty dried figs, dates, and prunes driving the midpalate toward the finish. A touch of candied ginger spices things up as a fruity but dry tobacco leaf rounds out the end with the faintest touch of walnut shells.
Bottom Line:
This was one of our favorite whiskeys of the year. It’s just delicious from top to bottom and its got an incredibly Don Draper-esque midcentury bottle. If that doesn’t qualify it as a great gift bottle, we don’t know what does.

Lucky Daye — “Candy Drip”
Lucky Daye is certainly one of R&B’s most promising acts, and after the success of his 2019 debut album Painted, the expectations are high for the New Orleans native. He’ll hopefully meet them on his upcoming sophomore album which he announced with its title track, “Candy Drip.” It’s a woozy effort that truly highlights his versatility as an artist.
Alicia Keys — Keys
A little over a year after she dropped her Alicia album, Alicia Keys is back with its companion project Keys, which also serves as her eighth album. It’s a double disc effort with side A featuring music we may expect from her while side B features songs that push past the limits of her artistry. Altogether, it amounts to 26 songs and guest appearances from Pusha T, Lil Wayne, Lucky Daye, and more.
Ne-Yo — “Stay Down” Feat. Yung Bleu
Ne-Yo spent 2021 celebrating the 15th anniversary of his classic debut album, In My Own Words. As we get ready to move into 2022, Ne-Yo is seemingly set on bringing us new music in the new year. It begins with “Stay Down,” a bouncy track that finds him beside Yung Bleu as they both promise to be a ride or die partner for their lovers as they both know their respective partners would do the same.
Pink Sweats — “Midnight River” Feat. 6lack
Pink Sweats has plenty to be proud of in 2021 thanks to his extremely impressive debut album, Pink Planet, a project that landed on Uproxx’s Best R&B Albums Of 2021 list. Despite that, he’s showing no signs of slowing down as he offers his third single in as many months with Midnight River” alongside 6lack. The somber collaboration sees both singers craving a peaceful and serene moment with their respective lovers.
Zacari — Sol
Zacari, who stands as one of the more recent signees to TDE, looks to be getting back into the swing of things as his music output has increased in recent months. The latest example of that comes with his Sol EP which offers four tracks and a lone feature from Justin Nozuka. Though it may be a brief effort, hopefully, it leads to more from Zacari in the near future.
Isaia Huron — Cerulean Tapes
Isaia Huron has already impressed in 2021 with his Bound EP which he dropped back in August. The Nashville native adds on to his 2021 portfolio with another EP, titled Cerulean Tapes. The project is comprised of covers of noteworthy R&B records from the past by Floetry (“Say Yes”), Miguel (“Adorn”), Aaliyah (“One In Million”), and Drake (“Teenage Fever”). For each song, Huron completely changes the arrangement and production while keeping the lyrics intact for what proves to be an equally impressive and soothing body of work.
Fana Hues — “Breakfast”
Fana Hues received a huge boost in her career thanks to the reception of her 2020 project Hues. Things continued to improve for her as she landed a highlight guest appearance on Tyler The Creator’s 2021 album Call Me If You’re Lost. Now she’s laying the groundwork for what will surely be a strong 2022 year and it begins with her newest single, “Breakfast.” It’s an effort she debuted on A COLORS Show and one that beautifully showcases her vocals and her irresistible aura.
Rayana Jay — “Whoroscope”
While it’s been two years since Rayana Jay dropped a project, that being 2019’s Love Me Like, the Richmond, California-native has been far from quiet. Her latest single, “Whoroscope,” is a bouncy effort that runs down her roster of men and highlights their most notable attributes while connecting them to their respective astrology signs.
Jaz Karis — “Home”
I’ve been waiting to hear more from South London’s Jaz Karis after stumbling upon her 2020 EP All Eyes On U. All throughout 2021, she’s dropped off strong singles that indicate all signs point towards a promising future for the rising singer. Her newest release, “Home,” is an excellent example of that as it arrives as a piano-driven ballad that begs an old lover to not settle down with someone.
Dende — Pregnancy Pack
Texas native Dende is certainly turning heads with his music and his latest project is an excellent example of that. The singer returns with Pregnancy Pack, and its eight songs are everything you expect to hear with the title that it holds. The project is perfect for a late night with you and your partner to relax and unwind once all of the day’s tasks are complete. It also flaunts features from Bairi, Lily Aviana, Bobby Feeno, Susan Carol, and Cam Hayden.
SuperSmashBroz — “Pace” Feat. Echezona
Production duo SuperSmashBroz out of Boston, Massachusetts offers a warm video for their new track “Pace.” The song features singer Echezona, and together the trio delivers a song that’s focused on winning the heart of a special woman. The visual itself watches Echezona woo a girl with his singing and dance skills as they eat in a restaurant.

Every year, the National Film Registry of the Library Of Congress selects a new crop of historically significant films for induction. The 2021 class has been revealed and it features work by some familiar figures in the music world, including David Byrne, Jennifer Lopez, and Ray Manzarek of The Doors.
Inducted is Talking Heads’ iconic 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense, of which the Library Of Congress notes, “Nearly as inventive visually as it is sonically, the film is directed by Jonathan Demme who, wisely, keeps his camera tightly focused on the stage, leaving the music and band members (and the members’ own unique theatrics) to speak completely for themselves.”
Elsewhere on the list is 1997’s Selena, which stars Lopez in her first major film role as Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. The film was both huge for Lopez’s career and for Selena’s legacy, and it earned award consideration at the Grammys and Golden Globes.
Also making the cut is Evergreen, a 12-minute student film that Manzarek (who passed away in 2013) made in 1964, before he found success with The Doors. The Library Of Congress notes the film is “about a jazz musician (Henry Crismonde) and his romance with an art student (played by Manzarek’s then-girlfriend and future wife Dorothy Fujikawa).” Fujikawa said of Manzarek’s interest in film, “I think film informed his work and Jim’s work throughout their musical careers. They always thought of their songs as cinematic expressions. They were always sort of little stories that were dramatic and told a story with music. In that way, they were cinematic songs.”
Meanwhile, also included is 1975’s Cooley High, and while it’s not a music movie, it is known in part for its exemplary soundtrack, which features a mix of songs from Motown greats like Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and more.
As far as non-musical films, other highlights of this year’s class include Star Wars Episode VI — Return Of The Jedi, Wall-E, and Richard Pryor: Live In Concert.
TMZ reports that hip-hop pioneer Flavor Flav of Public Enemy was nearly crushed by a falling boulder while driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, totaling his car and coming “very close to death.” The iconic hype man was driving through La Tuna Canyon when the boulder, loosened by recent local rain, fell down the side of the cliff, smashing into the car’s right side and making Flav lose control of the car.
A passerby who saw the collision stopped to make sure he was okay and Flav was able to contact AAA, telling reps that he was physically okay but mentally “shaken up.” He said, “God is good,” and that he’s “super grateful to be alive.” The car was totaled, though, with the passenger side all banged up and missing a headlight.
The Los Angeles Rams picked up a gigantic win on Monday Night Football this week, as the team traveled to Arizona to take on the division leading Cardinals and won, 30-23. It came under some unfortunate circumstances, as the Rams had to play without a number of players — including All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey — due to the NFL’s COVID protocols.
Unfortunately, it does not appear this was an isolated incident. On Tuesday, it was reported that star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. tested positive for COVID-19.
I’m told #Rams WR Odell Beckham Jr. has tested positive for COVID19, per league source.
Beckham, who recently joined the team as a free agent after getting waived by the Cleveland Browns, played in the win over the Cardinals, catching six balls for 77 yards with a touchdown and a celebration inspired by Detroit Urban Survival Training. With how the COVID situation is shaking out in L.A., the team will shut down its facility.
Sean McVay says the Rams closed their building down this morning and are in intensive protocols. They will work remotely today and tomorrow. Calls it a “uniquely challenging” situation.
There is some good news in the midst of this: Rams coach Sean McVay told the media that the players who tested positive for COVID are all vaccinated against the virus.

Currently, there is no word on whether or not this will impact the Rams’ ability to play any of their games as they are scheduled to occur. The team sits 9-4 on the season and is slated to play host to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
As soon as LCD Soundsystem’s 20-night residency at Brooklyn Steel comes to a conclusion later this month, the band will be putting out their first ever holiday special. Dubbed The LCD Soundsystem Holiday Special, it’s centered around a ’90s-style sitcom about the band directed by comedian Eric Wareheim, followed by a live performance from the band.
Streaming via Amazon Music on December 22nd, the All My Friends sitcom has Wareheim as James Murphy, Christine Ko as Nancy Whang, Macaulay Culkin as Pat Mahoney, and also features Aparna Nancherla, Rex Lee, Luenelle and even a puppet called Korey (after synth player Korey Richey.)
“I am similarly stunned that someone let us do this,” Murphy said in a statement. “At least we finally get to use our Korey puppet.” Wareheim echoed Murphy utter disbelief that… errr… this is happening:
“I’ve already conquered film, James has conquered music, but we have yet to conquer the sitcom — the HIGHEST form of art. We’ve been working on this project for 15 years, and for this show we’re unveiling a uniquely emotional perspective of the sitcom universe for the holidays–provided by one of the greatest bands of all time and my dear friends, LCD Soundsystem. I can’t believe Amazon Music is letting us do this.”
Once All My Friends kicks off the special, the band will “shut up and play the hits,” including the first ever live performance of their 2015 holiday single, “Christmas Will Break Your Heart.”
