After 46 years on the air and countless iconic skits (several of which even turned into full-fledged spinoff films), the United Kingdom is finally taking a closer look at the United State’s number-one comedy-skit show — and it seems they like what they’re seeing. According to an exclusive Deadline report, a British version of the hit NBC series Saturday Night Live is currently in the works over in the UK. While the project is still in extremely early stages of development, it’s rumored that NBC sister-station Sky UK is already working on finalizing the deal with SNL, as well as scouting potential comedic talent.

If the show is greenlit, it would mark the most high-profile remake of Saturday Night Live to date. While the show has already been remade in several other countries and territories around the world — such as Germany, Italy, China, and South Korea — none have quite reached the level of success as the American version of the series, something that, given the right cast, the UK version seems well-equipped to do.

However, far more surprising than Saturday Night Live U.K.‘s big reveal seems to be the fact that it took this long to happen. Turns out, there are a couple good reasons for that. First and foremost, prior to Sky beginning to air full episodes of Saturday Night Live last year, SNL had only been available to watch in short clips via YouTube, making it less accessible (and noteworthy) to the vast majority of British television fans. While the series’ did air for a brief period in 2006 on ITV4, it wasn’t until 2020 that it became a more regular part of British programming.

In addition, the UK did attempt to make their own version of the show, simply titled Saturday Night, back in 1985. While the program did help launch the careers of Harry Enfield, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, and Ben Elton, it never reached the same levels of success and ultimately only lasted three years. Here’s hoping a new iteration of the series proves to be a bit more of a hit than it was back then — and perhaps even comes on a wee bit earlier than it does here in the states.

In this episode, directed by Tony Uncle Al himself, Johnny Sack’s daughter is getting married, and Tony’s worried that all the jackals he hangs out with are noticing how weak he is after his coma. He also can’t help but notice how hot all these jackals are. Bobby Bacala is Bobby boom shakalaka shaking the rim with monster dunks, Paulie’s got big hairy biceps, and this spicy new driver looks like Dominic Toretto if he liked working out more than he liked drinking Coronas and working on cars.

Tony can’t keep his eyes off Muscles Marinara, and Vito can’t maintain his double life after getting spotted at a leather daddy bar. He’s wearing some kind of long-sleeve mock turtleneck under his leather vest, which Vince points out is the leather daddy equivalent of a t-shirt in the pool. A lot of body related insecurity in this episode. These characters should get on Brent’s workout plan. That dude is ripped, and he volunteers? What a guy.

Myles Garrett is having an incredible season for the Cleveland Browns. The team’s star defensive end has 14 sacks through 12 games, is terrifying quarterbacks, and has lived in backfields. He’s drawn plenty of praise and attention for his performance on the field, which is leading to

One reward that Garrett might receive is becoming the best player in Browns’ history … at least as far as Madden is concerned. Over the last few years, the team over at Madden has embraced the conversation that exists around player ratings and making a particularly big deal out of anyone who manages to reach 99 overall. On Friday, EA Sports teased that Garrett is on the verge of becoming the first player in franchise history to achieve that rating.

Garrett’s rise as one of the best defensive ends in football has been consistent. He started off as an 88 overall in Madden NFL 19 and has seen his rating only increase from there. As long as he doesn’t see his production drop off suddenly to end this season — and there’s no reason to think that’s going to happen, because he is very good — it seems pretty likely that he will be joining the 99 Club at some point before the end of the year. Should Garrett achieve a 99 overall rating, he will pass longtime Browns offensive lineman Joe Thomas, who peaked at a 98 overall.

On top of The Matrix Resurrections bringing the sci-fi series back to life later this month, Epic Games, the makers of Fortnite, released The Matrix Awakens video game experience, which uses the new Unreal 5 Engine to blur the lines of reality and digital simulation, just like the movies. While promoting The Matrix Awakens, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss sat down with The Verge and, during that sitdown, Reeves proceeded to reveal that he’s put a lot of thought into the idea of virtual reality sex. Like… a lot.

The topic came up after Reeves was informed that gamers were modding Cyberpunk 2077 so that they could have sex with Reeves’ character, which The Matrix star was very into. Unfortunately, he was also informed that CD ProjektRed banned the sex mod, which bummed Keanu out. But not too much, because he soon launched into his thoughts on how virtual reality and the metaverse could allow people to have sex with celebrities. Via Kotaku:

“So you could not even have to be there and people could have digital sex with your digital avatar…what’s it called right now, ‘For Members Only’? You could do a whole thing,” explained Reeves, gushing in a way that makes it seem like he’s been thinking about this for some time. “Oh my god then you get the suit that’s probably made in Sweden or some German thing, oh my god then you’ve got the VR thing. Then they’ve got the data on you with your like, arousal metrics…”

For the record, that was Keanu Reeves revealing he’s spent a lot of time pondering “arousal metrics.” However, at the end of the day, Reeves says VR will never match actual sex. “You hold that real thing and you’re like, oh man I’m so glad we have reality,” Reeves said, concluding his seminar on virtual boning.

Garfield, everyone’s favorite cat who hates Mondays and loves lasagna, has been all over video games as of late. He was recently announced as the first DLC character in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, but his virtual takeover didn’t stop there.

Garfield will also receive a special Xbox Series S to coincide with his inclusion in Nickeloden All-Star Brawl. Xbox is hosting a sweepstake on Twitter for anyone that wants the special Garfield console. This actually isn’t the first time Xbox has done this — when All-Star Brawl initially came out, Xbox hosted a sweepstake for anyone that wanted to win a SpongeBob or Ninja Turtles-themed Xbox Series X.

Initially, the reactions to the Xbox were about what anyone would expect: jokes and memes. After all, it’s an Xbox with Garfield’s face staring back at them why would that not feel silly?

Then there were a lot of jokes about whether or not the console would work on Mondays or not.

There were also plenty of people who genuinely really wanted this Xbox. Garfield has a whole lot of fans out there and those folks really want to see their favorite lasagna loving cat on an Xbox.

May the person who hates Mondays the most win.

The members of Why Don’t We came together from many parts of the world, and their Christmas traditions reflect their respective upbringings. “My mom grew up in the Netherlands, so growing up we always participated in Dutch traditions, Corbyn Besson tells us over email. “My favorite is when we celebrate Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) on Dec. 5th every year. We leave little wooden shoes called klompen by the back door with a plate of Oreos, milk, and carrots for his horse to eat, and we exchange small gifts.” Jonah Marais’ family, on the other hand, gets together and exchanges gifts. “My mom always makes this amazing egg bake and it is my favorite day,” he explains.

Regardless of their traditions and backgrounds, though, the holidays bring together the entire band for a time of generosity. “One of my favorite memories was surprising my brother,” Zach Herron recalls. “I decided to upgrade his whole gaming set up with everything he’d been wanting. The rest of my family helped to distract him from going in his room and he never suspected anything. He absolutely loved it and to this day it’s one of my favorite memories!”

To get in the holiday spirit this year, all five members of the band gave us their favorite music for the latest Uproxx Holiday playlist. “I love Christmas music,” Besson explains. “It’s so feel-good and a constant reminder of great memories and family.” Herron adds: “Holiday music is the one thing that really gets me into the holiday spirit. It really wouldn’t feel like the holidays without the music.”

The U.S. men’s basketball team has reportedly found its successor to head coach Gregg Popovich. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Team USA “is finalizing a decision to name” Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr as its new head coach.

Joining Kerr on the bench includes Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, and Gonzaga men’s basketball head coach Mark Few. Kerr, who was on the staff for this summer’s Olympics gold medal squad, will take over for Popovich in the World Cup and 2024 Paris Olympics. Wojnarowski said “a formal announcement is expected in the near future.”

Joe Vardon of The Athletic confirmed Wojnarowski’s report, and added that a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers has a shot at making the roster for a national team that has struggled with the center position in recent years.

Kerr inherits a program that has won gold at each of the past four Olympic games. However, the gap between America and other national programs is clearly dwindling. Team USA lost to France in the quarterfinals at the 2019 World Cup and finished seventh in that tournament. This summer, France defeated Team USA in the group stages, but the Americans were able to get their revenge in the gold medal game.

Much has been made about Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi’s involvement in the new movie Don’t Look Up, but they’re not the only recognizable music stars who played a part in bringing the film to life. As the movie ends, a new song from Bon Iver and film composer Nicholas Britell, “Second Nature,” plays, and now the track, an evocative and cinematic tune, has been shared.

Rolling Stone offers some background on the song, noting that director Adam McKay thought a Bon Iver track would be a perfect fit for the end of the movie. So, Britell called up Vernon — as the pair have known each other for years — and the two got to work.

Vernon told the publication, “I was energized and inspired beyond words, kinda like a bull in the pen before the rodeo.” He added, “I love the words, ‘We will see you next time… they’ll be water in the rain.’ Like next time, we’ll have a new chance, but the irony is we won’t have a second chance when it comes to climate change.” Britell noted, “It’s a beautiful thought but there’s also a warning there. And that’s the double meaning of the song; talking about what’s happening to nature and human nature’s role in that. I also love the line, ‘When’s that Rapture… will there be merch?’”

Vernon also said, “I think this movie is truly incredible and important. It brings levity and reality to us through humor and art. I’m incredibly moved to be a part of it.”

Coi Leray’s “Twinnem” has become a bonafide hit, surpassing her breakout “No More Parties” and proving that she’s no mere one-hit-wonder. In addition to its TikTok takeover, the song also spawned a remix featuring DaBaby and landed on Uproxx’s Best Songs Of 2021. But the story doesn’t stop there; Coi’s released another new remix of the track, this one in time for the upcoming holiday for Amazon Music. Adding a gospel choir to reflect the churchy organs already present in the song, Coi’s Amazon Music Exclusive displays a new dimension that might just extend its run into the new year.

Coi’s 2021 has come after an extended grind, during which she dropped a string of mixtapes and viral singles that established her rap credentials but didn’t take her to the next level. She was so discouraged that she contemplated quitting music until Lil Durk convinced her to stick it out with his belief in “No More Parties” — he appears on the remix. Since then, Coi’s future has been pretty bright, including a selection to XXL‘s 2021 Freshman Class, a bunch of successful singles and features including “Big Purr,” “Bout Me,” and Earthgang’s “Options” remix, and receiving a confident co-sign from NLE Choppa, who counted her among the female artists who “got next” alongside Flo Milli, Lakeyah, Rico Nasty, and Rubi Rose.
