Tom Hanks Could Have Gone Into Space Before William Shatner, But He Had A Good Reason For Declining

William Shatner took an 11-minute journey into space, the final frontier, aboard cartoon super-villain Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin’s rocket ship last month, but apparently the captain wasn’t the first choice.

During Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, host Jimmmy Kimmel asked Tom Hanks, “Is it true that you were asked to go to space by Jeff Bezos before William Shatner?” The two-time Oscar winner replied, “Well, yeah, provided I pay.” Space isn’t cheap folks. “It costs like 28 million bucks or something like that. And I’m doing good, Jimmy — I’m doing good — but I ain’t paying 28 [million] bucks,” Hanks said. “You know what, we could simulate the experience of going to space right now.”

Hanks leaned back in his chair, stared at the ceiling, and started convulsing. “You do that for four minutes and then you get up” and float, he explained. Be sure to yell “whoa” a lot. After a few minutes of floating, it’s time to put your seatbelt back on and get ready for another four minutes of convulsing. “I don’t need to spend 28 million bucks to do that,” he joked. Besides, Hanks has already been to space. It’s not as fun the second time.

You can watch Hanks’ Kimmel interview above.

Tucker Carlson Finds It ‘Appalling’ That Trump Hasn’t Donated Any Money To Help The Jan. 6 Rioters

Fox News host Tucker Carlson is the king of bad takes. And while the world has heard quite enough of his thoughts about the events of January 6, as reaction to his propagandizing Patriot Purge docuseries indicates, he managed to whip out yet another doozy on Tuesday by expressing disbelief that Donald Trump hasn’t sent any of his hard-scammed money to the rioters involved in insurrection on the Capitol.

On yesterday’s episode of Tucker Today (yes, he has a daytime series as well, which streams on Fox Nation and where Carlson dresses more like a cowboy), as Mediaite reported, Carlson—knowing he was about to stir up some sh*t—offered a bizarre opinion on the responsibility Trump had to the people who rioted on January 6th. While interviewing extreme right-wing political commentator and journalist Julie Kelly, who Mediaite describes as “a key figure in spreading conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and Jan. 6,” the two discussed their disappointment in Trump’s lack of monetary appreciation for the crazed citizens who smashed windows and incited a riot that left five people dead on his behalf. Here’s how that conversation went:

Tucker Carlson: People are going to be offended that I asked this, but I can’t control myself: So, like, what about the president on whose behalf they were gathered that day? Like, has anybody sent them money? … Brad Parscale, all these people around him, are getting rich, right?

Julie Kelly: Right.

Carlson: Complaining that the last election was rigged, which is clearly was. Obviously.

Kelly: Yes.

Carlson: And they’re making all this money and all these people are sending this money down to Florida. But is any of that money going to defend these people who went to this rally on behalf of that candidate?

Kelly: Not that I know of. And I will say no. No. And it’s a question that I have been asking myself and I a lot of them have been asking too. A lot of them were there to support Trump. They were there to protest the election being taken from him unlawfully. But aside, really, from a few comments about political prisoners — he has said a few things about Ashli Babbitt — to my knowledge… no, there has not been any financial aide coming from anyone of a prominent position to help these people.

Carlson: I just find that appalling I really do. I really find that appalling.

Amazingly, just one night before—on Tucker Carlson Tonight (which, ironically, is the Baywatch to Tucker Today‘s Baywatch Nights)—the host seemed to have a different opinion when discussing Lindsey Graham’s reaction to the Capitol being infiltrated by violent protestors. While his main point was to condemn Graham for suggesting that the Capitol police brandish their weapons, Carlson also made sure to point out that the “unarmed protestors… shouldn’t have been there. We’ve never defended that and never would.”

But paying them for their patriotism? Well, that seems to be a different story.

Charles Barkley Wants Someone To ‘Be A Grown Person’ And Tell Zion Williamson He Has ‘To Get In Shape’

The New Orleans Pelicans played the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night in a game that featured a whole bunch of prominent players, none of whom were Zion Williamson. The Pelicans’ standout forward is still sidelined as he works his way back from offseason foot surgery, and while the original line that came out of the organization was that he would be ready for the opener, we now sit 2-3 weeks away from whatever the latest update might be about his ability to play anytime soon.

In the midst of that, a video popped up on the internet of Williamson doing a pregame workout and looking like he has gotten bulkier as he’s been away from basketball. It was a cause for concern among the Inside the NBA crew, with Charles Barkley looking back on his experience as a player who needed to get his weight in a good place during his career.

“It looked like me and Shaq had a baby,” Barkley said, much to the big man’s delight.

Once the laughs stopped — well, from everyone other than Shaq — Barkley was more serious about how he thinks Williamson looks, leaning on his own struggles with being in shape during his career.

“I’m concerned,” Barkley said. “I am really concerned about … I tell this story, and I’m being critical, it is what it is.”

“Moses Malone,” Kenny Smith said.

“Moses Malone said to me, he said I was fat and lazy,” Barkley said. “And I started to cry a little bit.”

Barkley went on to call it “the turning point of my career” before turning his attention back to Williamson.

“He’s already hurt, you should not get hurt when you’re young,” Barkley said. “And he’s already had surgeries on his legs, now he’s got a broken foot, he gonna have to learn, even when you’re hurt, you’re gonna have to control your eating. When guys get hurt, Adam, and they come back, you’re trying to get in shape. And if you’re putting on that stress on your knees and your feet, you’re just gonna keep getting hurt.

“Somebody’s got to be a grown person down in that relationship and say, ‘Yo, man, you got to get in shape.’”

Referencing the amount of power that Williamson appears to have in the organization, Barkley said that fears of him leaving exist, but at the same time, he does not believe that the Pelicans will win anything with a perpetually-injured version of the young All-Star.

Smith chimed in that Williamson isn’t in “basketball shape,” and that he is skeptical that Williamson is anywhere near ready for a return.

The Raiders Released Henry Ruggs III Following DUI Resulting In Death Charges

On Tuesday, Las Vegas Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III was involved in a car crash in the early hours of the morning that killed the driver of the other car after she was trapped inside when it caught on fire.

Ruggs was sent to a hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries along with his girlfriend who was in the passenger seat of his car, and was later transferred to a Las Vegas jail and booked on charges of DUI resulting in death. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, but the initial police report indicated that Ruggs showed signs of impairment while at the scene following the tragic wreck in which his Corvette hit a Rav4 from behind.

The Raiders released a statement offering their thoughts and condolences to the family of the victim of the crash and that they were looking into the situation to gather information. Late Tuesday night, the team announced it had released the former first round pick.

It is a tragic situation that sees the loss of a woman’s life and a young player seemingly lose his career over something that should’ve been avoidable. If found guilty, Ruggs faces a minimum jail sentence of two years and up to 20 for a DUI resulting in death charge in the state of Nevada.

Jay-Z Rejoins Instagram For The First Time In Years To Promote His Upcoming Film

Jay-Z’s has long only been on two social media services: Facebook and Twitter, and he doesn’t use them that often. He once, during the summer of 2015, gave Instagram a try, but he only lasted about 14 hours, according to the NY Daily News, deleting his account after sharing a picture with Michael Jackson. Now, more than six years later, Jay is back on Instagram.

He rejoined the social media platform under the account name @jayz, there to promote his upcoming film The Harder They Fall, which he executive produced. As of 10:55 EST, Jay raked up more than 513,000 followers on Instagram, which will surely increase as more people become aware of his presence on the app.

During the London premiere for The Harder They Fall last month, Jay spoke about his passion for the film. “I’m super excited for Jeymes [Samuel], who’s actually from London,” he said. “Just the idea of him releasing his major debut, because he’s done film work and he’s done music. But for him to be releasing in London, a place where he’s from, it has to be a dream for him. So I’m super proud of my brother.”

In addition to co-executive producing the film, Jay has provided two songs to the movie’s soundtrack. The first is “My Guns Go Bang” with Kid Cudi and the second is “King Kong Riddim” with Conway The Machine, Jadakiss, and British rapper Backroad Gee.

Akron Fumbled At The Goal Line On What Would’ve Been A Go Ahead Touchdown Late In The Fourth Quarter

The Akron Zips quite literally fumbled away a golden opportunity on Tuesday night.

Late the fourth quarter against Ball State in a Mid-American Conference game, Akron was in the red zone and on the verge of scoring a go-ahead touchdown. On a third-and-7 play, quarterback Zach Gibson dropped back and scrambled. As he darted towards the goal line, he put his shoulder down and fumbled away a potential go-ahead score pending the extra point when he was hit by two defenders. Ball State recovered the ball in the end zone and took over possession. From there, they simply ran out the clock and got the win.

Gibson made a nice read here too — he saw space, took off and easily had a first down if he had slid to avoid contact or was more careful protecting the ball. There was 1:37 left on the clock when Gibson fumbled and the Zips had all three timeouts to work with still. There was more than enough time to score from inside the five yard line. But of course, no football player is going to see the end zone right in front of them and get conservative.

Aside from the heartbreak for Akron — who could have picked up their third win of the year had they scored — Gibson’s fumble also had gambling implications. The over/under for total points in this game was set at 57.5. Had he scored and the the extra point been made, Akron and Ball State would have cleared the over. Instead, no one except Ball State and under bettors left happy.

TDE’s MixedByAli Launched His Own Record Label And Said His First Artist Reminds Him Of Kendrick Lamar

At the end of last year, TDE’s in-house engineer Derek “MixedByAli” Ali announced that he purchased Death Row Records, the iconic studio where rap legends like Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Tupac Shakur recorded classic records. He renamed it NoName Studios, after his newly-launched label, NoName Recordings, and quickly signed his first artist: Malik Moses, who recently released his new single, “Show Me Something” with Bas. Fresh off the singing, Ali explained what he liked most about his new artist.

“The way he was able to really catch my attention with his selection of beats, the way his production was laid out, the way his songwriting and just how he carried himself sonically, that reminded me of working with Kendrick [Lamar] and working with Thundercat and Terrace Martin,” Ali told Rolling Stone. “It gave me that same feeling instantly as soon as I heard the first four bars of his music, and that’s rare nowadays.”

Ali also spoke about his overall vision for NoName Recordings. “We just want our label to be that safe place where artists can create, artists can have that creative freedom,” he said. “I don’t hear of too many audio engineers starting ventures like this, so it’s a different perspective to bring into the industry, the perspective from somebody who’s in the trenches understanding how it works and the grind that it takes to really be successful.”

You can listen to Morris’ new single and read the full Ali’s full interview with Rolling Stone here.
