There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

10. Squid Game – Netflix series

The high-stress survival series did it again, perhaps because the show’s sinister message strikes fear into the heart of an audience living in, well, current times. Credit goes to the gutsiness of creator Hwang Dong-hyuk for making the message literal as well as entertaining, and fingers are duly crossed for him to be able to take a nap before the third season. That will also surface this year, so get ready to see more misery for Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) while the series’ newly ambitious pace charges straight ahead.

9. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Disney+ series

It’s no secret that Star Wars shows have stumbled in viewership lately, and this Jude Law-starring show has received a lukewarm reception until now, but most watching parties agree that the series hit the season finale out of the Goonies-inspired ballpark. Additionally, more Andor and Ahsoka will be on the way, and Baby Yoda might still be hanging out there waiting for more action, too. The Force is not exactly strong with this one, but it’s percolating.

8. Emilia Pérez – Netflix film

Karla Sofia Gascón, Zoe Saldana, and Selena Gomez shine in one of two enormously successful musicals to release last year (Joker who?) as straight-up talent showcases and messages that will carry beyond theaters and streaming devices. The drama story hails from auteur Jacques Audiard and revolves around about a cartel leader who fakes their own death and emerges as a woman, Emilia Pérez. That’s only the baseline structure, and what unfolds is breathtaking [insert Scorsese meme] cinema.

7. The Pitt – Max series

Primetime medical dramas run for dozens of seasons for a reason, and Max has taken a swing at conjuring up ER vibes by putting Noah Wyle in scrubs again. The 15 episodes of this season will each chart an hour in the ridiculously long shift of Wyle’s physician in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room. This is a less soapy affair than his NBC drama of yesteryear, but there’s no shortage of additional topics to draw from with this series aiming for more realism by covering contemporary crises.

6. Black Doves – Netflix series

This lovely pair of spy-assassins (portrayed by Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw) are still kicking it near the top of the Netflix weekly streaming list. If you’d ever told me that Keira would convincingly drop the corset roles and throw down serious John Wick and Taken vibes, you would have received a skeptical look, but the world is onboard with stellar dynamics and convincing writing in a very unrealistic setting. That balance works, as it turns out, and we will see Helen and Sam again in about a year.

5. The Night Agent – Netflix series

With the second season (that begins in Bangkok) preparing to launch, fans are catching up to prepare for Peter Sutherland’s ascendance to full Night Action status. This series is as bingeworthy as Prime Video/Amazon’s Reacher but is soon going international with full espionage and conspiracy flavor on display. The new scenery doesn’t hurt, either. No longer is the action limited to D.C., but never fear, Rose does catch up with Peter again, so their chemistry is in full effect with the second season, which will surely move this show nearer to the top of this list next week.

4. Landman – Paramount+ series

The wait for the second season has begun after Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norton saw his stressors grow, and Jon Hamm’s character looked to be on the verge of death. The only bright side of that turn of events is that Demi Moore’s tycoon-wife will be poised for greater action if the show returns. In the meantime, Jacob Lofland’s Cooper has positioned himself well for the future, and Michelle Randolph’s Ainsley continues to be the most viral hitmaker of the entire series. Taylor Sheridan devotees will soon be turning their attention toward the return of 1923, and Randolph will be on hand there, too, but Landman proves that Sheridan doesn’t really need Yellowstone to keep cranking out crowd pleasers. And he’s so far beyond being a low peg on the Sons Of Anarchy call sheet that it’s not even funny.

3. Silo – Apple TV+ series

Season finale time has arrived for Rebecca Ferguson’s mechanical genius, Steve Zahn’s bearded Solo survivor, and Common’s still silly leather jacket. Those are only a few of the show’s motley crew of characters, and this week’s episode ended with a scene that felt straight out of another world. There’s a reason for that WTF reaction, and answers will not be coming there until the third season, but hey, at least Juliette’s situation appeared to be vastly improving, and Solo is no longer alone. He was fine alone, of course, but he was even better with his newfound fam, and we haven’t seen the last of that group, but get ready for this worldbuilding exercise to get much larger.

2. American Primeval – Netflix series

A team of creative minds behind Narcos, The Revenant, and Friday Night Lights have come together for this Neo-Western limited series in which Taylor Kitsch and Betty Gilpin go through hell on earth. The year is 1857, and they’re fighting through frigid elements amid the Mountain Meadows Massacre, during which Mormon soldiers killed hundreds of pioneers at the behest of Brigham Young (Kim Coates of Sons Of Anarchy). This clash involves Indigenous nationals also rising up to fight for their own survival within the same contested territory, and this ain’t Yellowstone, baby.

1. Severance – Apple TV+ series

Yoooo, here we go. The office has returned for the Innies after their illicit journey into the Outie world. This new season will go to new literal places (like a snow retreat) that few could have envisioned after watching discomfort emerge under florescent lighting three years ago. As well, the inner journeys of Mark, Irving, and Dylan, and Helly are about to grow more hellish as creator Dan Erickson and director Ben Stiller unleash new degrees of mindf*ckery. By the way, did you catch the show’s Grand Central Station staging this past week? Guerrilla marketing at its finest.

After some low-scoring games to start the NFL playoffs, the Lions and Commanders brought the fireworks on Saturday night in Detroit. A wild first half saw both teams create a ton of big plays as Washington was far friskier than most anticipated against the Lions as big underdogs, and in the second quarter they found themselves suddenly up 24-14 after their second forced turnover of the game.

Jared Goff overthrew his receiver in his own territory and right into the hands of Quan Martin, who returned it all the way for a pick-six.

At the end, Goff got injury added to the insult of throwing a pick-six when he got absolutely lit up by Frankie Luvu on a block that was up high and decleated the Lions QB (close-up video here), as defenders always look for a chance to take a shot on a quarterback after a pick. It went unflagged, but Mike Pereira felt it should’ve been a personal foul, and Goff had to leave for concussion evaluation.

That thrust Teddy Bridgewater, who spent all year coaching high school football in Florida (and winning a state title), into action as he was signed by the Lions for the playoffs. The Lions improbably scored on the next drive with Bridgewater under center on an incredible trick play to Jameson Williams, but the Commanders immediately answered with a TD drive of their own in the craziest half of football of the season.

Goff mouthed to coach Dan Campbell as he walked to the back that he was “good” but that was going to have to be confirmed by the independent doctor, and he returned for the final drive of the first half, allowing Lions fans to breathe a bit of a sigh of relief that they’d have their quarterback for what needed to be a comeback effort. Unfortunately for Detroit, Goff threw a pick in the end zone on Detroit’s final drive of the half.

The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to an incredible seventh consecutive AFC Championship game after a 23-14 win over the Houston Texans on Saturday afternoon. The Texans were an extremely game opponent for most of the afternoon, but ultimately Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce created enough big plays and the Chiefs defense turned up the pressure on CJ Stroud to pull away late.

While it felt like the Chiefs were in a reasonably comfortable spot late in the game, with Houston needing a near-miracle to overcome an 11-point deficit as the clock wound down below two minutes, there was some considerable spread drama at play for those who bet on the game. The Chiefs were anywhere from 7.5 to 9.5 favorites depending on when and where you looked, with the spread closing at 9.5 at a bunch of books (including FanDuel, Caesars, and DraftKings). After Ka’imi Fairbairn’s nightmare day continued with a short field goal getting blocked by Leo Chenal for his third missed kick of the afternoon, it looked like Chiefs bettors would cover every number.

However, they couldn’t completely kneel out the clock, but chose to take knees anyways, leaving a short window of time for the Texans. With 15 seconds to play, the Chiefs lined up to punt from their own 18 and had Matt Araiza simply run backwards and out of the end zone for a purposeful safety.

That was the smart play up 11 as it kept it a two-possession game and allowed them to take a free kick rather than a punt that could get blocked for a TD if disaster struck. But for people that bet the Chiefs late on Saturday it was a disaster — and for late Houston bettors, a sudden and unexpected moment of joy. Houston would do nothing with it after the safety kick, ending the game and creating an all-timer for folks that bet the spread at the very end.

Sir Elton John is one of the most revered live entertainers. With thousands of performances across his career, the EGOT titleholder has plenty of concerts to back up this claim. Still, the “Bennie And The Jets” singer can’t win everyone over. In fact, one fellow musician abandoned his seats during a noteworthy Elton John performance.

During an interview with the Sunday Times, Ringo Starr revealed that he once left an Elton John concert after just three songs.

Although The Beatles member remains unapologetic about his decision, he admitted he also witnessed fans doing the same to him.

“In the late Nineties, I would put in, like, two or three from the new album, and you could feel the room empty,” he said. “It happens to everybody.”

The show in question was Elton John’s famous Wembley Stadium show in 1975 following the release of his album, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy.

“I was with his mother,” Starr continue. “He came on and said, ‘I’m only going to do the new album.’ My mother and I left after three tracks because we didn’t know them.”

The irony in Starr’s action is Elton John’s album went onto gain critically acclaim and even picked up two 1976 Grammy nomination for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance Male (“Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy”).

Caitlin Clark had a pretty incredible 2024, as she became a massive superstar, not just in the world of women’s hoops but as a bigger celebrity beyond just the sports world, during her senior season at Iowa and carried that over into a phenomenal Rookie of the Year campaign with the Indiana Fever that included an All-Star selection and playoff berth.

While 2024 for Clark was about as good a year as someone can have, her 2025 got off to a pretty incredible start on a personal level as she was in attendance at the Texans-Chiefs playoff game in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon as a guest of Taylor Swift.

In her Athlete of the Year profile with Time, Clark said Swift had invited her to a Chiefs game and also said she and Travis Kelce would make it to a Fever game next season. She followed through on that first part for a pretty big game as the Chiefs opened their playoff campaign as they go for a three-peat.

Clark is an unabashed Swiftie, making multiple appearances at The Eras Tour last year, joking she got so many friendship bracelets she was losing circulation in her arm. Parlaying that fandom into a budding friendship, it seems, with her favorite artist is pretty cool and is quite the way to kick off what should be an even bigger year for Clark on and off the court.

The relief efforts amid the ongoing Los Angeles County fires are revamping up. Several musicians including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé (by way of her foundation), and The Weeknd have given significant financial donation to support the cause. Other entertainers are showing their support for the cause by hitting the stage.

Earlier in the week, FireAid announced their benefit concert at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome scheduled for January 30. Today (January 18), the event’s lineup has been updated to include No Doubt.

Although the band’s frontwoman Gwen Stefani was a confirmed performer for the night, now she is set to reunite with the group in its entirety. Other musicians signed on for the one-night-only event include Uproxx cover Tate McRae, Billie Eilish, Finneas, Earth, Wind & Fire, Gracie Abrams, Green Day, Jelly Roll, Joni Mitchell, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lil Baby, Pink, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rod Stewart, Sting, Stephen Stills, Stevie Nicks, Dave Matthews and John Mayer.

The sale for the FireAid Benefit Concert For LA tickets is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, at noon pacific. The bond between a father and daughter is unbreakable. Many dads are willing to go to extreme lengths to protect their family. Although Method Man would certainly agree with this sentiment, the Wu-Tang Clan member was sure to dispel a recent viral rumor regarding his baby girl and fellow rapper Chey.

On January 16, the New York Post published a piece alleging Method Man was arrested in Staten Island after assaulting his daughter, real name Cheyenne Smith’s supposed ex-boyfriend Patrick Sokoya at a Crunch Fitness gym. However, in a statement published by AllHipHop, Method Man vehemently denied the claim.

Nicole Perna, Method Man’s representative, debunked the report saying: “Mr. Smith categorically denies the allegations as reported and has not been the subject of an arrest by any law enforcement agency.”

This was also echoed by a spokesperson for the New York Police Department. According to the official, no arrest report exists for the alleged incident. Prior to the report being debunked by both Method Man’s rep and the New York Police Department, users online expressed their willingness to rally behind the Power actor. With the matter seemingly cleared up by Method Man, fans have slammed the outlet for potentially damaging his rehabilitated image.

Yesterday (January 17), late rapper Mac Miller’s long-awaited album, Balloonerism, was released in all of its glory. The posthumous project featured guest appearances by Delusional Thomas and SZA.

Shortly after the body of work was shared to streaming platforms, SZA penned a touch note in Miller’s memory while encouraging others to listen to the album. “I love my friend,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I miss my friend. Grateful he saw something in me before most and treated me with love from day one. Wish he could see how right about everything he truly was.”

She closed: “Please go stream ‘Balloonerism’ RIGHT NOW.”

The wildfires across Los Angeles County has caused nearly insurmountable damage. Unfortunately, musicians Jhené Aiko and Madlib are among of the thousands of residents impacted by the disaster. Many members of the music community have come out to aid with the relief efforts–Taylor Swift is the latest.

Over on the “Fortnight” singer’s official Instagram page, she shared an emotional statement (viewable here) regarding the LA Fires. In it, Swift revealed that she donated an undisclosed amount to multiple organizations.

“The fires in California have devastated so many families, and it’s been heartbreaking to see the stories unfold,” she wrote. “So much suffering, loss and destruction. As so many embark on some of the most challenging times of their lives, there are also many amazing organizations and groups banding together to help these communities rebuild.”

She closed by encouraging others to do the same: writing: “These are the organizations I’ve donated to. If you feel compelled or able to donate, please do.”

A few of the organizations Swift donated to include the California Community Foundation Fund, Greater Los Angeles Education Relief, Habitat for Humanity, and MusiCares.

Swift joins a long list of other entertainers to show their support for those impacted by the LA Fires. Beyoncé’s BeyGood Foundation, The Weeknd, and others have donated to relief efforts.

Last night, FYI and Uproxx Studios partnered with De.Nice, will.i.am’s charity i.am. Angel Foundation, the Annenberg Foundation, and WalkGood LA to raise nearly $200,000 for those affected by the devastating LA Wildfires. Dubbed the “LA Check In,” the IG-hosted livestream event — a sort of spiritual successor to De.Nice’s Covid-era Club Quarantine streams — operated in a telethon model and raised funds from around the world with a special focus on individuals, first responders, and organizations directly impacted by the wildfires.

The livestream included a moving opening statement by will.i.am, a performance by DJ Hed, and appearances by the acclaimed actress and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph, the mother of WalkGood LA co-founder and actor, Etienne Maurice, and an appearance by the comedian and actor, Affion Crockett.

The event brought together personalities, figures, and live donations from people who live and breathe LA, showing a strong commitment to the rebuilding efforts, and highlighting the vital role the arts and humanities play in bringing connection and community together while some of the wildfires continue to burn.

But the efforts aren’t over yet. The LA Check In will return tonight alongside guest DJ Meka Lolita with anticipated appearances by Charlamagne the God, Fitz and the Tantrums, Imogen Heap, MC Lyte, Sleater-Kinney and more for another night of fundraising.
