If there’s one thing the Los Angeles Clippers know, it’s how to respond to being down in an 0-2 hole. During their first round tilt against the Dallas Mavericks, L.A. lost the opening two games of the series before finding their form in Dallas and, ultimately, rallying back in the series to win Game 7 and punch their collective ticket to the conference semis.
That’s the good news, the fact that they know how to come back from this spot. The bad news: The team on the other side of things is the Utah Jazz, which have been nigh peerless during this NBA season. With all due respect to a very good Mavericks team, climbing this mountain will be exponentially more difficult for the Clippers than it was the last time.
But the series is shifting back to Los Angeles, and perhaps a friendly arena will end up being beneficial to Ty Lue’s bunch. Of course, it’d help if they could figure out a way to keep Donovan Mitchell from continuing to do whatever he wants, which he seems capable of doing in any building right now.

4. 30-year-old singer with terminal cancer amazed and inspired with her performance on America’s Got Talent.
Singer Jane Marczweski, who goes by Nightbirde when she sings, is on her third round of cancer and was given a 2% chance of survival. 5. Meet America’s first gay married couple, who legally got married decades before it actually became legal.
Through some careful reading of the letter of the law and some simple name changes, Jack and Michael McConnell used a legal loophole to get married 32 years before Massachusetts became the first state to legalize same-sex marriage in 2004 and 43 before it became federally legal in 2015. The Denver Nuggets just don’t have an answer for the Phoenix Suns, and though we knew that heading into Game Three, it is obvious now, as Denver couldn’t even muster enough to win on Friday night, instead falling down 3-0 and facing a potential sweep this weekend.
After a 116-102 loss — one in which we finally saw a more assertive Nikola Jokic and a bounceback game from Monte Morris — there is little hope for the Nuggets in the series. They just cannot contain a Suns offense that is gelling at the perfect time and creating open three after open three no matter what Denver does.
Despite a monster 32-20-10 triple-double from Jokic, the Nuggets fell behind by 16 early in the game and never took the lead. Morris, who had been cold all series, answered the call with 21 points on 8-12 shooting, but it wasn’t enough. Phoenix capitalized on every mistake they made (the Nuggets had 14 turnovers) and played dominant basketball on both ends.
Devin Booker had 24 through three quarters before Chris Paul took over in the fourth, as he has all series. In a scary sight for the rest of the eight teams remaining in the NBA playoffs, Paul put up a postseason-high 27 points to go along with eight assists and six rebounds. A vintage Paul performance signals he’s healthy after a suffering right shoulder contusion in the first round — and rearing to go with a second trip to the Conference Finals in his sights.

Denver is approaching the end of a season marred by injuries. Game Four is on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, where Phoenix will look to close out the Nuggets and earn some extra rest before the Western Conference Finals.
Always one to tap interesting and unusual collaborators, Skrillex has put together quite a posse for his latest new single. “Supersonic (My Existence)” features vocals from Josh Pan, Dutch producer-trio Noisia and contributions from 100 Gecs’ Dylan Brady. This ghostly bit of dubstep is the third new track Skrillex has released so far in 2021, following up his house-inflected collaboration with Four Tet and Starrah, “Butterflies,” and the full-on pop-punk banger “Too Bizarre,” that features Swae Lee and Siiickbrain. Though the latest single is the only song to come without its own video, it just might be the strongest of the bunch.
While no word has come yet about an official album announcement or release date, it definitely feels like the groundbreaking producer is readying something big for a new phase. His three new singles mark his first new Skrillex music since 2019. But given the fact we’re on the brink of one of the most anticipated festival seasons in recent memory, it makes sense that Skrillex is making his return. You’d be forgiven for not realizing that Lamar Odom and Aaron Carter were scheduled to fight this weekend, but in another celebrity boxing match on Friday night, Odom unsurprisingly handed it to the former pop singer.
NBA champion Odom has about a foot and 60 lbs. on Carter, and watching them in the ring together looked a little like a teenager training with Rocky Balboa. It will come as no surprise that Odom won the match by knockout, or that it took just two rounds.
The fight took place through an organization literally called “Celebrity Box” and could only be seen on Fite TV. Hardly anything about it felt real.
And if the involvement of Odom and Carter wasn’t enough of a draw, the fight organizers also got former mixed martial artist Chuck Liddell in the mix as a guest referee. If it all sounds a little WWE, that’s because it was, for better and worse.

While the Paul brothers seem to be actually committing themselves to trying to box, this fight was purely for show (and money), with Carter hardly looking up for it and Odom owning him pretty thoroughly. Considering it only took a couple left hooks for Odom to knock Carter down, there wasn’t much competition happening in this ring.
Although Elissa Mielke was the star of an old video by The Weekend (“The Zone,” from back in 2012), her own music couldn’t be farther from Abel Tesfaye’s icy R&B. As her debut EP Finally, out today shows, her tendency is toward rich, warm folk with piano and introspective lyrics. Fans of artists like Weyes Blood and Lana Del Rey’s latest album will most likely find something to love on Mielke’s new EP, which is folksy in all the best ways. Her journey in the music industry has definitely been a winding one, hence the EP’s title. After immersing herself in the scene in Toronto (hence The Weeknd connection), Mielke moved to Los Angeles in 2019 to recalibrate her approach, and at least to my ears, the wait has been worth it. It’s been brewed the same way for centuries in Germany using coriander and sea salt as a flavoring agent. In recent years, American craft brewers have carried on these old-world traditions while adding their own flavors like blood oranges, blueberries, Key limes, and even passion fruit.

This is truly a unique beer, but one you’ll return to again and again. Tasting Notes:
Right away, you’ll be struck by the aromas of sweet wheat, citrus zest, and tart cherries. The palate is slightly tart, but there’s a good mix of sweetness to temper it. It’s dry, refreshing, and filled with cherries, subtle spices, and a nice salinity at the very end.
Bottom Line:
Some beer drinkers might be turned off at the notion of a fruited, cherry-flavored beer. This is the beer that will change your mind. Victory strikes a perfect chord between sour and sweet.
The Athens, Georgia-based brewery does nothing but crank out winners. Its Tritonia is no different. This fruited Gose features lime, sea salt, coriander, and its house lactobacillus blend. But it’s the addition of cucumber that makes this one of the best, thirst-quenching summer sippers you’ll ever find.
Tasting Notes:
A lot is going on with this beer. After an initial nosing, you’ll be met with what smells like actual fresh, ripe cucumbers. This is paired with bright lime and spicy wheat. The flavor is tart, crisp, and loaded with notes of cucumber, citrus zest, coriander, and a nice, pleasing salty finish.
Bottom Line:
Even on this list, you’ll have a tough time finding a better summer refresher than Creature Comforts Tritonia. That is if you enjoy the flavor of cucumbers. Otherwise, stick to citrus-centric Goses.
Sometimes Gose beers can be a little salty and tart. But this tropical take on the style is fruity, subtly tart, and totally refreshing. On top of the usual Gose ingredients, Modern Times adds guava and passion fruit to complete the tropical, sweet flavor profile.

The nose is a little lighter than many popular Gose-style beers and that’s not such a bad thing. There are scents of citrus zest, subtle spice, sweet wheat, and tart yeasty notes. The palate is swirling with funky yeast, sweet, caramel malts, bright lime, and black pepper. This fascinating brew has a subtly bitter, salty finish that brings it all together in a symphony of flavor.
Bottom Line:
This is a great beer for IPA fans looking to get into the world of sour beers. It has more hop bitterness than some of the other beers on this list and should definitely appeal to West Coast IPA lovers, in particular.
This is the beer that started the American Gose craze. Brewed with CTZ hops, American ale yeast, Acidulated, and Pale malts, and wheat, it’s rounded out by the addition of sea salt and coriander. This beer doesn’t have fruit added like some of the other Goses and it doesn’t need it. It’s crisp, salty, and effortlessly refreshing.
Tasting Notes:
Even without the addition of any citrus fruits, the aroma is all lime, lemon, and grapefruit. This is paired with a nice salinity and tart, funky yeast. The palate starts with the expected lactic tart flavor that evolves into hints of citrus zest and sweet wheat. It all ends in a crescendo of salt and citrus.
Bottom Line:
This crisp, light, tart, highly crushable citrus-filled beer just might be the perfect summer beer. It pairs well with yard games, grilled meats (or veggies), and sunny days.
This beer is a little different from the others on this list. On top of having the base of a classic, German-style Gose, it’s dry-hopped with Mandarina Bavaria and Huell Melon hops. This results in a citrusy and salty beer that’s balanced out with bright floral hops.
Tasting Notes:
The aroma is all citrus with hints of orange peel, lemon zest, and the addition of highly floral hops. On the palate, you’ll find a nice dry, subtly tart flavor swirling with notes of ripe tangerines, tart lemons, and just a hint of sea salt. The finish is fairly light and ends with a nice combination of sweet, tart citrus and salt.
Bottom Line:
Hop heads will enjoy the dry-hopped aroma and flavor. But this citrus and salt combo should still appeal to fans of Goses. All in all, this is a great June brew.

Specifically, the Moroccan Clementines the brewery sources from a local juicer. The addition of salt rounds out the flavors well.
Tasting Notes:
The nose showcases the tart aromas Gose drinkers expect. There are also notes of juicy clementines, sweet wheat, and sea salt. The flavor is full of hints of lime zest, orange peels, sweet malts, and a gentle salinity that highlights all of the various flavors.
Bottom Line:
This is the beer equivalent of biting into a ripe clementine that’s been dusted with sea salt. It’s juicy, sweet, tart, salty, and delicious. It’s also well-suited for hot weather drinking.

For now, we’re going to stick to bourbon, rye, single malt scotch, blended scotch, Canadian, Irish, Japanese, and peated whisky.

When it comes to beginner bourbons, drinkers have a lot of choices. But, if you’re looking for the best value to quality ratio, it’s really difficult to beat Wild Turkey 101. This high rye, slightly spicy bourbon is matured in the deepest charred American oak casks the distillery has on hand. The result is a supremely mellow blend of 6 to 8-year-old bourbons.
Tasting Notes:
The first thing you’ll notice when you take a moment to nose this whiskey is the strong notes of charred oak, caramel, and toasted vanilla beans that all meld together with the help of a little spicy, peppery rye. Sipping reveals hints of fresh leather, buttery caramel, sticky toffee, cinnamon sugar, and just a hint of cracked black pepper at the very finish.
Bottom Line:
Even with the low price tag and high proof, this bourbon is just as useful as a sipper as it is as a mixer. Enjoy it in a rocks glass with a single ice cube or as the base for an old fashioned. It’s truly a versatile, high-value bottle.
There’s a glut of bargain, beginner bottles of rye on the market. But in our opinion, the best introductory bottle is Sazerac. Made to pay homage to the history of New Orleans, this rye whiskey is known for its subtle spicy flavor that’s well-balanced with sweetness. It was created to be used as the base of a cocktail but serves as a tremendous value sipper as well.
Tasting Notes:
The nose is surprisingly complex for such a bargain-priced bottle. There are bold notes of candied orange peels, dried fruits, vanilla cream, and a nice hit of peppery spice. Take a sip and you’ll find flavors of citrus zest, cinnamon sugar, buttery caramel, and cracked black pepper. Unlike many ryes in this price range, the peppery flavor isn’t overwhelming here.
Bottom Line:
If you’re going to make a Sazerac, you could do much worse than using the rye whiskey the drink was named for as its base. But this is also a functional sipper and a great value pick.
Single Malt Scotch Whisky –- Glenmorangie The Original
Like the bourbon marketplace, there are myriad beginner single malt whiskies that could easily be inserted here. But if you’re looking for the one bottle to introduce a new Scotch drinker to the style, there’s no better expression than Glenmorangie The Original. This mellow, smooth sipping single malt has been made the same way for more than 175 years. Matured for ten years in ex-bourbon casks, it’s known for its fruity, sweet, and approachable flavor.
Tasting Notes:
The aroma is all citrus, vanilla, and just a hint of woody sweetness. When it’s time to take a sip, your palate will swirl with more toasted vanilla that’s paired with buttery caramel, sticky toffee, candied orange peels, and just a hint of cinnamon spice. It all ends with a pleasing, warming note of dried fruits and caramelized sugar.
Bottom Line:
This introductory bottle is so good (and is such a great value) that you’ll continue purchasing it long after your palate grows accustomed to the various styles and region-driven flavors of Scotch whisky.
You might look at this selection and think it’s a cop-out. But it’s really not. If you’re new to blended whisky, there’s no better beginner bottle than Monkey Shoulder. Why? Because this bottle allows you to get a taste of three different Speyside distilleries. These single malts are blended to create a sublimely mellow, easy-to-drink whisky that’s a superb sipper in this price range.
Tasting Notes:
For a reasonably inexpensive blended whisky, a lot is going on with the nose. You get candied orange peel, vanilla beans, cinnamon, and crème Brulee aromas. Taking a sip reveals ripe berries, clover honey, more pronounced vanilla, dried fruits, and sweet malts. The finish is warming, long, and ends with a nice herbal, spicy, sweet last sip.
Bottom Line:
Sure, you can grab one of the more historic blended whiskies to introduce you to the style. But there’s honestly no better beginner bottle than Monkey Shoulder. It does a whole lot for 32 bucks.
For many drinkers, Canada can seem like the wild west of whiskey. There seems to be a lot going on up in the great wild north and the use of the term “rye” historically for whisky that isn’t the same as our rye whiskey is confusing. But all you really need to know is that Lot No. 40 is a really great whisky. Discontinued in the early 2000s before returning to the market a few years ago, Lot No. 40 rye is produced in copper pot stills and is thought to be one of the best examples of Canadian whisky available today.
Tasting Notes:
Right away, you’re struck with the expected aromas of peppery rye spice. This is followed closely behind by vanilla beans, candied orange peels, and raisins. The cracked black pepper remains on the palate along with more toasted vanilla beans, butterscotch, cooking spices, and cinnamon sugar at the very end. All in all, a great introduction to the world of Canadian whisky.
Bottom Line:
Not only is this a great gateway into Canadian whisky, but it’s also a great first rye whiskey. It masters an impeccable balance between peppery spice and vanilla and caramel sweetness.
There are a ton of great choices when it comes to beginner Irish whiskey expressions. You can’t go wrong with Bushmills, Jameson, or Tullamore D.E.W., for example. But when it comes to quality to value ratio, we love Green Spot. This beloved expression gets its rich, highly sippable flavor from being aged in first and second fill ex-bourbon barrels as well as sherry butts.
Tasting Notes:
This is a truly multi-dimensional dram. The nose is filled with buttery toffee, vanilla beans, dried cherries, and carries a subtle herbal backbone. Taking a sip reveals hints of charred wood, caramelized sugar, vanilla, sweet sherry, and mint. It’s exceptionally creamy and ends with a pleasing wallop of butterscotch.
Bottom Line:
Not only is this our favorite introductory Irish whiskey, but this is also one of our favorite beginner sherried whiskeys (whiskeys aged in sherry barrels). It’s sweet, complex, and well-suited for sipping neat.
A lot of drinkers shy away from Japanese whiskies because they just don’t know where to start. We suggest the award-winning, very flavorful Nikka Whiskey From The Barrel. This blend of single malt and grain whiskies from Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries is aged in a combination of ex-bourbon, sherry butts, and hogsheads.
Tasting Notes:
Before taking a sip, breathe in the aromas of charred wood, wildflowers, dried cherries, honey, and vanilla beans. Taking a sip will transport you to a world of creamy caramel, vanilla beans, wood char, subtle spices, and sherry sweetness at the very end. This warming, fruity whiskey is tempered by a nice hit of spice and wood.
Bottom Line:
If you’re a Scotch whisky fan and you’ve never delved into the world of Japanese whisky, what are you waiting for? This is the whisky to start that journey.
Scotch whisky is broken up into two parts: peated and unpeated. The island of Islay is filled with distilleries producing peated whisky with some being smokier than others. Bowmore is one of the most highly regarded distilleries on the island (and all of Scotland) and its 15-year release is a great way for non-peat drinkers to get started. Finished in sherry butts, this well-rounded whisky has a great peat-smoke-to-sherry-sweetness ratio.
Tasting Notes:
This is a complex whisky. The nose, while filled with earthy peat smoke, is also swirling with dried fruits, sweet cherries, buttercream, and subtle spices. The palate is full of hints of sticky toffee pudding, vanilla beans, charred oak, sweet sherry, and a nice wisp of pleasing, robust peat smoke. We can’t think of a better introduction into the world of peat-smoked whisky than Bowmore 15. It’s reasonably priced for such an old bottle and it’s more well-rounded and sweeter than some of the smoke bombs on the market.

Despite multiple injury scares from Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers were able on Friday night to eek out a 127-111 win over the Atlanta Hawks to go up 2-1 in their second-round series. Embiid led the way with 27 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, and after outscoring Atlanta by eight in the first period, the Sixers never looked back.
On the Hawks’ side, Trae Young continued his aggressive and balanced play, scoring 28 to go along with eight assists. The Hawks also got a boost from John Collins, who exploited Philadelphia inside for 23 points on 10-for-14 shooting.
Four minutes into the game, starting shooting guard Danny Green left the game for Philadelphia with what the team called a right calf strain, and did not return. Embiid took a scary fall in the third quarter as well, appearing to land on his right hip and leg, near where he suffered a torn meniscus earlier in the playoffs.
After Green started Game 1 guarding Young, the Sixers’ adjustment to have Ben Simmons or Matisse Thybulle check the Hawks’ guard full-time has paid dividends. Thybulle had two steals in just 17 minutes in the game, rewarding Doc Rivers for going back to him.
The teams will stay in Atlanta for Game 4, but while Philly has a better answer for Young than they did early in the series, the Hawks have still yet to figure out how to stop Embiid in any real way.
Chiiild, aka Yonatan Ayal, is releasing his debut album, Hope For Sale in just a few weeks on July 23, and ahead of that big date he’s promoting the record with a late night appearance. Making his late night debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the up and coming artist brought his blend of psychedelic rock, R&B, and pop to life. Starting off with the lonesome-sounding “Pirouette,” sitting and playing at the piano alone, eventually the performance built into a much larger scale as he transitioned into the second song, “Sleepwalking.”
For that track, Chiiild left the piano and the camera expanded to show the stage was actually stacked with two other string players. Then, walking from the initial barren room out through a series of colorful pillars, Chiiild made his way to yet another stage, where he was once again joined by live players. Speaking with Uproxx earlier this year, Chiiild spoke about the Black artists that inspire his work, and how their art is really a mirror that reflects society. Based on other early tracks previewing his debut ,like “Gone” and “Eventually,” Ayal will be doing just that with his own music, too.
