Josh Hartnett Shared Matt Damon’s Very ‘Unhelpful’ Advice On The ‘Oppenheimer’ Set

Actors are known to change up their look for new roles, and some of them do it more intensely than others. You can get jacked up or get a perm or even CGI genitals, if that is what the movie requires.

For Oppenheimer, Josh Hartnett admitted that he gained 30 pounds for the role, which is not unheard of in Hollywood. But his co-star Matt Damon seemed to give him a hard time about it. “He gave me a lot of good advice. One in particular — one thing that was just so unhelpful: he told me not to gain the weight I’d already gained for the role,” Hartnett told Jimmy Fallon this week on The Tonight Show.

For his role of Ernest in Chris Nolan’s 2023 blockbuster, Hartnett put on some weight. “I gained about 30 pounds for the role, and [Damon] was like, ‘You’re never gonna get that off again, man.’” He said. Apparently, Damon has a strict “don’t gain weight over 40” rule for himself when it comes to choosing his movie roles.

Hartnett then explained Damon’s point of view. “He’s like, ‘You’re gonna spend the rest of your life trying to get that weight off and it’s never gonna come off because your body’s gonna want to get that weight back on. You’re just gonna keep growing back out to that size, and you’re going to try and get it off, but it’s just gonna go back,’” he recalled. “And he kept telling me, like, over the course of the production.” Statistically, this is what happens when most people diet, so in a way, he’s right, and you should never push your body to do something it doesn’t want to do. On the other hand, haven’t we learned not to trust everything that Matt Damon says?

Hartnett took the advice like a champ. “I was like, ‘Thanks, Matt. Thanks for telling me this now. I’ve already gained it.’” And he looks GREAT! Take that, Matt!! Coincidentally, Damon was also a guest on The Tonight Show last night, so they must have patched things up.

TRAP is in theaters on August 2nd. Check out the full interview above.

LeBron James Debuted The Nike LeBron 22 At USA Basketball Practice

LeBron James is getting set for an incredible 22nd season in the NBA, and as one of the very rare players to get a signature shoe as a rookie, that also means he and Nike are about to release the 22nd shoe in his signature line — the LeBron 22.

The LeBron line has had peaks and valleys in terms of popularity. There have been some sneakers (and some particular colorways) that have become cultural phenomenons — like the South Beach 8s — but there have also been plenty that have gotten a lukewarm reception. Part of that, for years, was that LeBron’s shoes needed to function for LeBron James on the basketball court, which meant they needed to stand up to an outrageous amount of force being applied to them, which led to some bulky, at times clunky designs.

In recent years, however, Nike and LeBron have recaptured their place atop the sneaker market with a more sleek design, starting with the LeBron 20s, tapping into the the low-top craze. The Olympics have long been a launching ground for new signature sneakers, dating back to the Dream Team, and on Thursday LeBron showed off a first look at the LeBron 22 at USA Basketball practice.

It’ll be interesting to see what the reception is to a pretty different aesthetic, although the overall silhouette is fairly similar to the 20s and 21s. The big Swoosh look is similar the Zoom Freak designs Giannis Antetokounmpo has been wearing, while there are also elements that are reminiscent of the Air Max Pennys.

Anderson .Paak And Gwen Stefani Could Medal In Vibes Based On Their ‘Hello World (Song Of The Olympics)’ Video

The 2024 Paris Olympics will kick off on Friday, July 26. Céline Dion and Lady Gaga are expected to perform at the opening ceremony, but Anderson .Paak and Gwen Stefani got a head start.

On Thursday, July 25, Anderson .Paak and Stefani released “Hello World (Song of The Olympics™)” with a video posted to the Olympics’ official YouTube channel.

“The Olympics and The Coca-Cola Company teamed up with Ryan Tedder, Gwen Stefani, and Anderson .Paak to create a song that celebrates the magic that happens when the world comes together at the Olympic Games,” the YouTube description reads.

Tedder co-produced and co-wrote the feel-good anthem. In the video, .Paak sets the tone by singing, “Hello, world, where ya been? / I’ve been waiting for you and your friends / One love begins / Tip-top, we’re starting at ten / If you believe that we can make some magic happen, say yeah.”

.Paak’s performance is spliced with footage of Olympic athletes being generally awesome, and eventually, we’re joined by a glittery Stefani. “I was mindin’ my business, taking care of business,” she sings. “Doin’ my thing / Woke up in the middle of the night like, ‘Ooh’ / Heard the telephone ring / I don’t need to tell you, I don’t need to explain / It’s ‘Hello World,’ we showin’ up, we changing the game.”

The 2024 Paris Olympics will run from July 26 to August 11, and you can expect to hear this song umpteen times in between.

Hugh Jackman Sweated Straight Through His Shirt On An Especially Torturous ‘Hot Ones’

Hugh Jackman is, just like his name, pretty jacked and intimidating. Yes, he seems charming and nice, but he’s known for playing Wolverine, so he is comfortable around violence and chaos. This is the type of guy you want on your side if the world ever came down to an apocalyptic situation. But we have recently learned that Hugh Jackman is, unfortunately, nothing when it comes to spicy food (as his armpits showed around the 13:00 mark above).

Jackman and his partner in crime Ryan Reynolds have been all over the globe to promote Deadpool & Wolverine, but it seems like the only thing Wolverine can’t do is tolerate hot sauce. The duo joined Sean Evans on Hot Ones, where Jackman appeared to be going through the various stages of grief, including:

Shock:

First We Feast

Pain:

First We Feast

Bargaining:

First We Feast

Depression

First We Feast

Acceptance

First We Feast

Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds acted like he was taking the most serious proctored exam of his entire life.

The two talked about what it was like to reunite for Deadpool & Wolverine, which had originally included a fake-out plan. “The original idea with this movie was to shoot a fake movie called Alpha Cop, that was intentionally bad… It was about two guys that were sharing one brain and together they make the perfect cop…and the poster says Alpha Cop: two cops, one brain, all balls,” Reynolds explained. “And it was meant to be kind of like horrible. Like 10 people in America would go to see this movie on opening weekend and five minutes into the movie the Marvel logo would flip up and it would actually be Deadpool & Wolverine.” If that were the case, we would have missed out on all of this fun Wolverine promo.

While most of the discussion over wings consisted of Deadpool tidbits in between Hugh’s crying, he did share the story of his earliest job: a clown. “I literally rented a clown outfit…and we had no skills, literally no skills…I broke my rule and I did an 8 year old’s party. I always knew they were going to find me out and he found me out and this kid yelled to his mom ‘mom, this clown is crap’. And I’m like ‘shut up, kid.’” And this must have been what inspired him to play a loner superhero with metal claws. He can finally shut those kids up!

How To Watch And Stream USA Basketball’s Olympics Group Stage Opener Against Serbia

The USA Basketball men’s team is looking for its fifth straight Olympics gold medal, as the star-studded roster led by LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant (pending his return from a calf strain) has made their way to Paris as the strong favorites in the tournament. That said, this year’s Olympics is arguably the strongest international basketball competition in history, as there are a number of quality contenders ready to challenge the United States’ basketball supremacy.

Among them is Serbia, which is led by three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, and they just so happen to be part of the same group (Group C) as the United States along with South Sudan and Puerto Rico. While the two teams met in an exhibition game in Abu Dhabi that saw Team USA cruise to a win, the intensity figures to ramp up when they meet on Sunday in Lille for the first game of the group stage.

How To Watch

Date: Sunday, July 28
Time: 11:15 a.m. ET
TV Network: NBC
Streaming: Peacock

After back-to-back close calls to close out their showcase slate against South Sudan and Germany, Team USA will be looking to make a statement in the opener against a fellow medal contender. On the other side, Jokic, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Nikola Jovic, and the rest of the Serbian squad will be hoping to prove they’re a genuine threat for gold in what should be a highly entertaining matchup.

Taylor Swift Couldn’t Resist Making A ‘Sperm Donor’ Joke While Encouraging Everyone To See ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

taylor

Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to debut to $160 to $170 million at the domestic box office this weekend. You can add another $20 million to that number now that the Marvel movie has been endorsed by Taylor Swift.

“Over the past few years I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time, energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film,” Swift wrote in an Instagram Story, along with a picture of herself, stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, director Shawn Levy, and Super Bowl buddy (and Lady Deadpool?) Blake Lively. “He’s created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich. I don’t know how he did it.”

This proved to be an elaborate set up to make fun of Reynolds, as Swift added, “But that’s just Hugh for you! These other randoms crashed the photo and we were too polite to ask them to leave.”

The “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart” singer then plugged Deadpool & Wolverine with a link to buy tickets and ended the caption, “Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor!” This (I think?) is the first time Swift has publicly acknowledged that she’s a godparent to Reynolds and Lively’s kids, including Betty. It’s definitely the first time she’s made a sperm joke about Deadpool.

8 nontraditional empathy cards that are unlike any you’ve ever seen. They’re perfect!

When someone you know gets seriously ill, it’s not always easy to come up with the right words to say or to find the right card to give.

Emily McDowell — a former ad agency creative director and the woman behind the Los Angeles-based greeting card and textile company Emily McDowell Studio — knew all too well what it was like to be on the receiving end of uncomfortable sentiments.

At the age of 24, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She went into remission after nine months of chemo and has remained cancer-free since, but she received her fair share of misplaced, but well-meaning, wishes before that.

On her webpage introducing the awesome cards you’re about to see, she shared,

“The most difficult part of my illness wasn’t losing my hair, or being erroneously called ‘sir’ by Starbucks baristas, or sickness from chemo. It was the loneliness and isolation I felt when many of my close friends and family members disappeared because they didn’t know what to say or said the absolute wrong thing without realizing it.

Her experience inspired Empathy Cards — not quite “get well soon” and not quite “sympathy,” they were created so “the recipients of these cards [can] feel seen, understood, and loved.”

Scroll down to read these sincere, from-the-heart, and incredibly realistic sentiments.

Pretty great, right? If you know someone who’s in the less-than-ideal position of dealing with a serious illness, you can purchase any of these eight cards to share with them.

Visit Emily McDowell Studio’s shop to select the card(s) you need. They’re $5.00 each.

(We’re not being paid to share these, nor were we asked to do so. We came across the cards and I loved them, so I reached out to Emily McDowell Studio and asked if I could share them with you. Unfortunately, a lot of us know someone who could use a card like one of these.)

How 7 things that have nothing to do with rape perfectly illustrate the concept of consent.

In 2013, Zerlina Maxwell ignited a firestorm of controversy when she strongly recommended we stop telling women how to not get raped.

Here are her words, from the transcript of her appearance on Sean Hannity’s show:

“I don’t think that we should be telling women anything. I think we should be telling men not to rape women and start the conversation there with prevention.”

So essentially — instead of teaching women how to avoid rape, let’s raise boys specifically not to rape.

There was a lot of ire raised from that idea. Maxwell was on the receiving end of a deluge of online harassment and scary threats because of her ideas, which is sadly common for outspoken women on the Internet.

People assumed it meant she was labeling all boys as potential rapists or that every man has a rape-monster he carries inside him unless we quell it from the beginning.

But the truth is most of the rapes women experience are perpetrated by people they know and trust. So fully educating boys during their formative years about what constitutes consent and why it’s important to practice explicitly asking for consent could potentially eradicate a large swath of acquaintance rape. It’s not a condemnation on their character or gender, but an extra set of tools to help young men approach sex without damaging themselves or anyone else.

news, campaigns, young men, cultural norms

But what does teaching boys about consent really look like in action?

Well, there’s the viral letter I wrote to my teen titled “Son, It’s Okay If You Don’t Get Laid Tonight” explaining his responsibility in the matter. I wanted to show by example that Maxwell’s words weren’t about shaming or blaming boys who’d done nothing wrong yet, but about giving them a road map to navigate their sexual encounters ahead.

There are also rape prevention campaigns on many college campuses, aiming to reach young men right at the heart of where acquaintance rape is so prevalent. Many men are welcoming these efforts.

And then there are creative endeavors to find the right metaphors and combination of words to get people to shake off their acceptance of cultural norms and see rape culture clearly.

This is brilliant:

consent, rape prevention, community, consent culture

There you have it. Seven comparisons that anyone can use to show how simple and logical the idea of consent really is. Consent culture is on its way because more and more people are sharing these ideas and getting people to think critically. How can we not share an idea whose time has come?
