A Former CNN Intern Says Watching Jon Stewart Hand Tucker Carlson His A** Is ‘Still As Cringey And Wonderful Today As It Was In 2004’

Even the crappiest internships have their perks. And it’s hard to imagine that being an intern to Tucker Carlson—specifically: Tucker Carlson in his bow tie-wearing days—was any sort of cakewalk. But it turns out that that job, too, had at least one amazing memory: watching your boss endure the verbal takedown of the century when he tried (and failed) to match wits with Jon Stewart.

In recent weeks, a clip from a 2004 episode of the now-defunct CNN series Crossfire featuring an epic exchange between Carlson and then-host of The Daily Show Jon Stewart has gone viral. While it’s a bookmarked clip for many people, others are seeing it for the very first time—and losing their minds.

The interaction is interesting for several reasons: First, it provides an early glimpse into what kind of show Carlson wanted to be on—namely, one in which he just gets to spout whatever random and usually misguided thought comes into his mind without disagreement. It’s also widely believed that Stewart’s appearance on the show is what led CNN to forgo renewing Carlson’s contract just a few months later (a rumor the Fox News host fiercely denies). Also: Stewart pokes fun at Carlson’s penchant for bow ties and just flat-out calls him a d*ck.

Among the people who have joined in the conversation about this momentous occurrence in television history is one Erin Maloney, who was a CNN intern at the time.

On Wednesday, she responded to the original tweet to say: “I was an intern/volunteer for the show at the time and watched it happen live. I remember the producers/everyone involved thinking it was going to be a funny show and quickly realized things were gonna go south quickly. Everyone was dumbfounded 😂

She also retweeted the clip and confirmed that: “I watched this live in the studio audience and it is still as cringey and wonderful today as it was in 2004.”

Jon Stewart, who only arrived on Twitter recently, did comment on the interview back in March. He acknowledged that he called Carlson a d*ck and wanted to apologize… to d*cks everywhere.

Jimmy Kimmel Calls Out Caitlyn Jenner For Being An ‘Ignorant A-Hole’ With Her Comments On The Homeless

While attempting to prop herself up as a potential replacement for California Governor Gavin Newsom, Caitlyn Jenner held a town hall with Sean Hannity earlier in the week where she she made a ridiculously out-of-touch comment about the homeless. While talking to Hannity, Jenner recounted a conversation she had with a friend in the next private plane hangar over, which was already a bad start, and the anecdote continued to go downhill from there.

“My friends are leaving California,” Jenner said. “My hangar, the guy right across, he was packing up his hangar and I said, where are you going? And he says, ‘I’m moving to Sedona, Arizona, I can’t take it anymore. I can’t walk down the streets and see the homeless.’”

Jenner got blasted on social media for the classist remarks, and on Thursday night, Jimmy Kimmel got in on the action. While teeing up the Hannity clip, Kimmel quipped, “This is how well Caitlyn Jenner understands the plight of everyday Californians here in L.A.” After Jenner’s hangar anecdote played for the audience, Kimmel joked, “Ah, homeless people: can’t walk around them, can’t fly over them.” But he was just getting warmed up. Via THR:

“Is it transphobic to call a trans person an ignorant a-hole?” Kimmel asked. “Or does calling that trans person an ignorant a-hole — even though she happens to be a trans person — show that we don’t discriminate against ignorant a-holes, no matter their gender orientation? It’s a tough one. I don’t know, I guess we’ll let the Internet decide tomorrow.”

Unlike Jenner, Kimmel’s “a-hole” remarks have not caused an internet backlash as of this this writing, so we’re guessing he’s good.

Megan Fox Delighted Kelly Clarkson With Her Spot-On Britney Spears Impression

Kelly Clarkson had an interesting introduction for Megan Fox during Thursday’s episode of her eponymous talk show. “She’s brought some of our favorite childhood cartoons to life on the big screen with her roles in Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” she said before welcoming her guest out. Nothing that Clarkson said was wrong, exactly, but it leaves out Fox’s two best performances, Jennifer’s Body and New Girl.

“Wondering why Kelly Clarkson didn’t mention Megan Fox’s 15-episode arc on a Fox sitcom” is not why I’m posting about her appearance, however. It’s because of her Britney Spears impression. The pop star helped Fox conquer her fear of flying. “There was a point where I was working in New York and I also lived in L.A., so every four days I was flying,” which is where the fear came from, she said. “It’s like, yeah, if you fly twice a year you’re good but not if you’re flying like twice a week. So what I did, and what I do recommend to people if you hit turbulence and you’re like, ‘I don’t like how this feels,’ I would throw on certain music that I just knew I wasn’t going to die to, which, for me, that was Britney Spears.” Not just any Britney, but Oops!… I Did It Again-era Britney.

Fox then sung a snippet of “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” (which appeared on the Oops followup, Britney, but they were only a year apart). “That’s not the soundtrack to my death. So, that always made me feel better,” she said. Hearing Fox mimick Spears’ vocals made me feel better, too. You might even say it made me… stronger.

Toosii And DaBaby Would Rather Send Shots Than ‘Shop’ In A Tough-Talking New Video

Last night, Raleigh, North Carolina rapper Toosii released his mixtape, Thank You For Believing, his third project since February of 2020. The tape, which followed his star-making debut album Poetic Pain, arrived with more than a little fanfare, as listeners tweeting about the project momentarily launched Toosii to a higher position on Twitter’s trending topics chart than even J. Cole. He also shared the first video from the project, “Shop” featuring his fellow South Coast Music Group artist DaBaby.

The song sees Toosii and DaBaby relaying their tough-guy credentials, insisting they’d be more likely to shoot down a foe than waste money on a woman. The video mostly tracks with this concept, as a clubgoing Toosii puts the pause on his mack game to put his paws on a player hater. The beat features an easygoing acoustic guitar loop much like the one on DaBaby’s No. 1 single “Rockstar,” somewhat belying the menacing subject matter and ensuring that “Shop” will be a catchy hit despite its dismissive view of the violence the two rappers are ready to commit.

If the song does become a hit, it’ll be Toosii’s second huge smash after 2020’s “Sapiosexual” put him on the radar as one of 2021’s top artists to watch. His “What It Cost” video is worth a look, too.

Thank You For Believing is out now via South Coast Music Group. Get it here.

Newsmax’s Greg Kelly Has Had It With People ‘Busting My CRACKERS’ Over His ‘Bugle Boy’ Photo-Op With Trump

No one really knows what kind of magic that Donald Trump is working down at the Mar-a-Lago, but a certain GOP contingent can’t let him go. In fact, they (even Ted Cruz, despite Trump trashing his wife during the 2016 election) are going absolutely wild over any opportunity to meet up with the ex-president (the guy who arguably cost his party the Senate and House majorities) for a photo op. The party isn’t limited to right-wing congresspeople, either. Newsmax anchor Greg Kelly proudly showed off his fresh souvenir photo with Trump, and oh boy, it is something.

Kelly’s the same fellow who recently got roasted for claiming that he got so high on “grass” that he blacked out and woke up in Kenya, so take this as you will. His caption is amazing: “Chillin’ with 45! (And yes. Those are BUGLE BOY jeans I’m wearing)”

Was Kelly really taking it back to the 1980s with Bugle Boy jeans?

The subject became a hotly debated one. Were they Balmain pants (those would be some hellaciously expensive pants, somewhere between $1200 and $1400, even), or another brand entirely?

Well, Kelly went on the defense and claimed that he was only joking about the “Bugle Boy” thing, and he’s officially going with “BALMAIN” as the designer ID on the pants. Whether or not that’s true, who knows? Whatever the case, Kelly is tired of “[e]veryone busting my CRACKERS over the ‘pants.” He’d also like everyone to know that “my shoes are by Ferragamo. Basically, I’m a Sharp Dressed Man. Thank you !”

Kelly’s insistence that his pants are the “most prestigious brand in PANTS” pushed everyone over the edge. Happy Friday, well, for everyone other than Balmain. They’re probably scratching heads over the styling.

Coldplay Can’t Officially Announce A New Album Yet, But There ‘Won’t Not Be’ One On The Way

Coldplay just released their new single, “Higher Power.” While that seems to indicate the band has a new album on the way, they haven’t officially announced one yet… although Chris Martin has done everything he can to let fans know that one is more than likely on the way.

Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland spoke to Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp this morning (as NME notes), and when asked about the possibility of a new album, Martin chose his words carefully. That said, he did everything but directly say the band has a record coming, saying, “We’re not supposed to say, but there won’t not be one.” Buckland added, “We’ve recorded more than one song.”

Elsewhere, Martin spoke with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, and while he didn’t talk about the album that doesn’t officially exist, he did speak about his willingness to experiment musically, saying, “I think that every artist is completely intertwined with what’s happening culturally and what’s happening technologically around them, you know? So when the delay pedal came through, whoever invented that, then you had all these amazing delay pedal records. So we’ve existed in the band concurrently with the barriers between types of music coming down… which for us is the biggest blessing in the world. When we started, it was like, ‘You’re a white indie band and this is urban radio and this is alternative radio and basically old fashioned racist statements.’ Of course we fit in a box at the beginning, and then right now in 2021, everyone’s doing everything. You can like Olivia Rodrigo as much as you like AC/DC and no one thinks that’s weird, and that’s musical utopia for me. […] It’s miraculous. So why would you want to stay in one box?”

Coldplay is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Tucker Carlson Is Somehow Attempting To Blame His Dangerous COVID-Vaccine Lies On Biden

After spending Wednesday evening reporting his “most f*cking evil lie yet” about the COVID vaccine, which put him in the crosshairs of a significantly large backlash on social media — even for him — Tucker Carlson attempted to blame his own shoddy reporting on Joe Biden. Naturally. In a nutshell, Carlson had reported figures from the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), which is an open-source system where literally anyone can submit a report claiming an adverse reaction. Here’s the important part: these claims are in no way verified as accurate because, again, it’s open source. For example, Raw Story reports that in 2004, one doctor submitted a claim that a flu shot had turned him into the Incredible Hulk.

As many people noted after Carlson’s Wednesday report, he either missed this important piece of information about VAERS in his haste to stoke fear about the COVID vaccine, or worse, he intentionally omitted it. However, when Carlson returned to the air on Thursday, he was downright furious over the backlash he received, and instead of owning up to his mistake, he blamed the Biden Administration for the VAERS numbers, even though the system has been around since 1990s. VAERS is not part of the official statistics on vaccine efficacy because, again, anyone can submit the claim, and you can only guess how that is going in these partisan times.

As The Daily Beast notes, there are several warnings directly on the VAERS page:

“Reports may include incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental and unverified information,” one disclaimer reads, while another warns: “The number of reports alone cannot be interpreted or used to reach conclusions about the existence, severity, frequency, or rates of problems associated with vaccines.”

Maybe Tucker should try reading next time.

Mario Judah Fans Are Dismayed To Learn He Was Taken Off Trippie Redd’s ‘Miss The Rage’

Last night, Trippie Redd and Playboi debuted their dizzying trap-metal collaboration, “Miss The Rage” to general acclaim among their fans on Twitter, but the highly-anticipated song turned out to be missing something: Its original hook, which was sung by rock-rap upstart (and semi-professional Playboi Carti troll) Mario Judah. Upon learning that the “Die Very Rough” wailer was discluded from the original mix, fans armed themselves with memes and shot “Mario Judah” back onto Twitter’s trending charts.

Fans couldn’t help comparing Mario Judah’s previewed version of the song to the one that officially featured Playboi Carti, with some calling the leak better and others defending the commercial release.

Trippie’s new song arrives just over two months after his latest album, the Travis Barker-produced Neon Shark Vs. Pegasus. Trippie also recently appeared on Internet Money’s Juice WRLD-featuring single “Blast Off,” avoiding zombies in the song’s animated music video.

Carti, meanwhile, has been teasing the deluxe version of his 2020 album Whole Lotta Red — the one Mario Judah playfully tried to hijack from under Carti after repeated delays in its release — and dropped a video for “Sky” in April. Despite the delays, Whole Lotta Red became Carti’s first-ever No. 1 album.

The FBI Released Its File On Kurt Cobain And It Includes Conspiracy Theories About His Death

Since the day it happened, Kurt Cobain’s death has been the subject of numerous conspiracy theories, so much so that documentaries have been made about them. Now it has been revealed that some of these theories were officially acknowledged by the FBI: Recently, the Bureau shared its file on the Nirvana leader. As Rolling Stone points out, the file was quietly shared online in April, without comment from the FBI.

The file is only ten pages long and the main features are letters about Cobain’s death that were sent to the FBI, as well as the Bureau’s responses. The response letters are nearly identical in their phrasing, and one reads:

“We appreciate your concern that Mr. Cobain may have been the victim of a homicide. However, most homicide investigations generally fall within the jurisdiction of state or local authorities. In order for the FBI to initiate an investigation of any complaint we receive, specific facts must be present to indicate that a violation of federal law within our investigative jurisdiction has occurred. Based on the limited information you provided, we are unable to identify any violation of federal law within the investigative jurisdiction of the FBI. We are, therefore, unable to take any investigative action in this case.”

The Muppets Are Getting Their First Halloween Special With Disney+’s Spooky ‘Muppets Haunted Mansion’

There are multiple Muppets-themed Christmas movies and specials, most notably The Muppets Christmas Carol (a masterpiece), but Halloween has been sadly overlooked in the Muppets canon. The Muppets wiki notes that “the Muppets have made several attempts at producing Halloween-themed television specials,” but none of them came to fruition, even though Uncle Deadly could serve as in-house Vincent Price. But this fall, Disney is finally giving the Muppets a spooky adventure in Muppets Haunted Mansion.

I hope these grim grinning ghosts meet these grim laughing ghosts.

The special will take place on Halloween, obviously, when Gonzo is “challenged to spend one very daring night in the most grim grinning place on Earth.” That would be the Haunted Mansion, a top-five ride at the Disney parks. (Disney should promise that if everyone with a Disney+ subscription watches Muppets Haunted Mansion, Muppet*Vision 3D will never be taken down.) Muppets Haunted Mansion will “feature a star-studded Muppets cast, celebrity cameos, all-new music, and spooky fun for families to enjoy together,” according to Disney+. As part of the “Halfway to Halloween” event, the streaming service also released a teaser for the special featuring Gonzo and Pepe the King Prawn. I like the talking crustacean, especially when he’s dressed like the Rock, but seeing Gonzo with anyone other than Rizzo is not right. Get those two back together and let them narrate more movies.

Muppets Haunted Mansion premieres in the fall.
