Geese Unveil The Rambling New Single ‘100 Horses’ To Tease Their New Album

Geese is on the rise and the band’s recently single, “Taxes,” was a favorite of Uproxx critic Steven Hyden. They have a new album, Getting Killed, out in a month, and today, they’ve offered another preview of it with the groovy new single “100 Horses.”

A press release notes that thematically, the track “welcomes global collapse with open arms” and dubs it an “absurdist apocalyptic dance party.”

A release also previously said the new album “obliterates any expectations the band has set with their discography to date,” and that it “balances a disarming new tenderness with an intensified anger.”

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards are starting to take shape. Last week, it was announced that Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Warren, Busta Rhymes, J Balvin (featuring DJ Snake), Ricky Martin, and Sombr would be performing. Now, the roster has expanded further.

Today (August 26), MTV revealed that added to the VMAs lineup are Jelly Roll, Doja Cat, Post Malone, Tate McRae, and Conan Gray.

They’ll take the stage when the show, hosted by LL COOL J, airs live from New York’s UBS Arena on September 7 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Billboard notes that Doja’s time on stage will feature the first televised performance of her recent single “Jealous Type.” All of the other newly announced artists have taken the VMAs stage previously except for McRae and Gray, who are performing for the first time this year.

Meanwhile, as far as nominations, Lady Gaga leads the pack with 12 nods, followed by her “Die With A Smile” cohort Bruno Mars, who has 11. After them are Kendrick Lamar (10), Rosé, Sabrina Carpenter (eight each), Ariana Grande, The Weeknd (seven each), and Billie Eilish (six). Jelly Roll earned his first nominations this year and has four total, as does McRae. Malone has a nod as well, for Best Collaboration with Blake Shelton for “Pour Me A Drink.”

Bruno Mars Has Added A New Year’s Eve Show To His Long-Running Las Vegas Residency

Bruno Mars joked that he’s “almost out of debt” with the Las Vegas mob earlier this summer, and today, he revealed the next step in paying off his fictional vig: A pair of shows to ring in 2026. Bruno will extend his seemingly interminable Las Vegas residence with two New Year’s concerts on December 30th and 31st at Dolby Live at Park MGM.

Bruno’s residency — which kicked off in 2016 — has run for so-long that it sparked rumors that the funk disciple had somehow racked up a $50 million gambling debt with MGM in explanation. The rumor prompted a response from MGM Resorts, which denied such a debt ever existed. “MGM and Bruno’s partnership is longstanding and rooted in mutual respect,” the conglomerate insisted in a statement. “Any speculation otherwise is completely false; he has no debt with MGM. Together, we are excited to continue creating unforgettable experiences for our guests.”

That hasn’t stopped Bruno himself from leaning into the bit. After collaborating with Lady Gaga on “Die With A Smile,” he reposted fans’ jokes crediting the collab to his supposed debt. And when he became the first artist to break 150 million monthly listeners on Spotify, he quipped on his social media, “KEEP STREAMING. I’ll be out of debt in no time 🕺🏽.”

Tickets for the New Year’s shows go on sale on Friday, August 29 at 10 AM PT, but you can get access to the pre-sale Wednesday, August 27th, with a Live Nation pre-sale on Thursday, August 28th. You can find more info here.

Spoon Unveil Two New Singles Right Before Launching A Tour With Pixies

The last we heard from Spoon was their 2022 album Lucifer On The Sofa, but they’ve started working on a new LP this year. It seems to be going well: They’ve already finished two songs and today (August 26), they shared them: “Chateau Blues” and “Guess I’m Fallin In Love.”

The band’s Britt Daniel says in a statement:

“We started work on an album this year and the way that normally goes, we write, we rehearse, we record, we mix, we get it all wrapped up tightly and then start putting songs out into the world. But as we finished up the first two songs for the LP, it crossed somebody’s mind and eventually all of ours that these two really should come out now. Let’s get them out there. And so here they are today, ‘Chateau Blues’ and ‘Guess I’m Fallin In Love.’ Two new tunes with distinct personalities that were summoned into the world the past few months in Austin TX and Providence RI. It’s a big day all around: tonight we kick off our first tour in a while in Santa Ana, and tomorrow we start up our run with the Pixies — let’s face it, one of theee great bands of all TIMES. A band that some may know has long been near and dear to me. It’s a real pleasure and we’re real happy to be getting back into gig world for a sec. See you down front.”

How To Use Spotify’s New Messages Feature

spotify logo
Getty Image

Last year, Spotify introduced the ability for users to leave comments on podcast episodes, perhaps as a first step to becoming something more like a social media platform. Now, the company is continuing in that direction: Today (August 26), they announced Messages, which allows users to DM each other directly on the Spotify platform.

In a post, Spotify notes the feature will “start rolling out to Free and Premium users aged 16 years and older in select markets on mobile devices” this week.

How To Use Spotify’s Messages Feature

Per Spotify, users will be able to share Spotify and share a message with users they’ve previously interacted with on Spotify, like if they follow each other or have a collaborative playlist.

While listening to a song, podcast, or audiobook in the Now Playing view, users can tap the share icon, choose a contact, add a message to the shared contact, and send the message. After the message request has been accepted, users can react with emojis, send text messages, and continue sharing additional Spotify content. The Messages feature can also be accessed by tapping the user’s profile photo in the top-left corner of the app.

Spotify also says, “As always, you should continue sharing Spotify content directly through your favorite platforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, TikTok, and more. Messages on Spotify are designed to complement these integrations, not replace them, and we’re excited to continue offering more ways to drive hype for the Spotify content you love, wherever you are.”

As far as security, Spotify notes users can choose to accept or reject message requests, and that inappropriate messages can be reported. Users will also be able to block other users. Furthermore, messages are “protected with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest.”

Find more information, including screenshots of how the feature looks, in Spotify’s post.

Joey Badass Is Suited Up In His Stately ‘Still’ Video With Ab-Soul And Rapsody

Last week, Joey Badass announced the dates for his Dark Aura Tour with Ab-Soul and Rapsody, and today, he shares the latest single from his upcoming album, which also features his tourmates.

The video for “Still” plays on the shadowy imagery from pop culture fixtures like The Godfather, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” video, and the iconic Death Row Records Vibe cover. Joey, Soulo, and Rap wear black suits, and mean mug the camera as Joey and Ab rap intricate verses. Rapsody provides the hook — which, really, seems like a waste of a Rapsody feature to me, but hey, it’s Joey’s show — and the three actually share screen time toward the end as they lounge in a convertible.

“Still” is the latest release from Joey’s upcoming album, Lonely At The Time, which is due for the release this Friday. “Still” follows “Dark Aura,” the first official single from the set, although Joey’s been dropping standalone singles all year as part of his ongoing campaign to kickstart the dormant rap rivalry between the coasts. He started the year with “The Ruler’s Back,” calling out Kendrick Lamar, but wound up getting into it with Kendrick’s former labelmate Ray Vaughn. After Vaughn’s response with “Crashout Heritage,” the two traded verbal barbs a few times, including with “Hoe Era” and “The Finals.”

You can watch Joey Badass’ “Still” video with Ab-Soul and Rapsody above. Check out Joey’s episode of Uproxx’s Sound Check here.

Lonely At The Top is out on 8/29 via Columbia Records.

Gorillaz Are The Most Fitting ‘Fortnite Festival’ Headliners Yet

gorillaz-fortnite-festival-season-10
Epic Games

A virtual band headlining a virtual musical festival sounds like a no-brainer, but somehow, Fortnite Festival got through five years without a performance from Gorillaz, the premiere fictional band. That changes on August 26, as Fortnite launches season 10, when 2D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russell land on the island, bringing the rest of their colorful lore with them. With a new album coming this year, there’s no better time.

According to Epic Games, in addition to a remodel on the Main Stage, adding an elevated train and devastated urban backdrop, all four band members will, of course, be available as character skins, each with a raft of unlockable accessories. These will include Back Bling like Noodle’s bass and Russell’s drum kit, an emote of Noodle’s “DARE” dance, and multiple outfits for each Gorilla.

Previous headliners of Fortnite Festival have included Bruno Mars, Sabrina Carpenter, Metallica, and Billie Eilish … so, like I said, REAL WEIRD that Gorillaz, the one musical act at that level of popularity that is already mostly virtual, took so long to get here.

I kid.

It’s actually very cool that Gorillaz are joining Fortnite, and pretty nifty that the concept that raised so many eyebrows when it was pioneered by Travis Scott has become such a fixture of modern pop culture. You can find more info here.
