English is hard. It’s so hard that even native English speakers have no idea why some of the rules exist which makes it even harder to explain to people learning English as a second language. Words that come to mind as confusing yet accepted as a rule are there, their, and they’re. They all sound the same but are spelled differently with completely different meanings.
The list of words that sound similar that have different spellings or meanings could stretch a metaphorical mile. It’s such a point of contention for English speakers that it’s not uncommon for them to rage post about it on social media. A man that goes by the name King Tut on Instagram compiles some of these frustrated posts and reads them leading to not only his own confusion but the confusion of others.
People just want English to make sense but the video he shared proves that no matter how much we complain, English will always be a little weird.
The creator opens the video reading the question, “why is naked pronounced naked but baked is not pronounced baked?” And if you speak English as your first language, you read that correctly without even trying and are likely confused on why it makes sense. Welcome to the club. It makes complete sense while simultaneously making no sense at all.
Yacht is a word filled with letters that don’t make the sounds we are taught that they make, which the man highlights by continually pronouncing the word the way it looks “ya-ca-tah” instead of “yawt.” People in the comments were quick to jump in with their own confessions and confusion.
“I’ve been confused but this confirms that it’s not my fault,” someone writes.
“English is that person that does whatever the hell it wants to do,” another says.
“Cause why is Meme pronounced Meme and not Me Me,” a commenter asks.
“Why does Know, Knit, Knight, Knife, all have Ks when we can’t pronounce the K? What it doing in there,” one person wants to know.
“I got points off my assignment for grammar because i said minute as in amount and my teacher read minute as in time,” someone else shares.
Whoever invented English, there are some people on the internet who would like to have a conversation with you. They have questions. A lot of questions.
On Wednesday, July 17, Lamar’s “Not Like Us” played while James and Steph Curry warmed up before USA Basketball’s exhibition game against Serbia ahead of this month’s 2024 Paris Olympics. In a video circulated by Complex on X (formerly Twitter), Curry can be seen expressing semi-joking, semi-serious annoyance to hear Lamar’s ubiquitous Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper yet again. “It’s not the only song in America,” Curry said, smiling and laughing. James shrugged and appeared to say, “As much as I love it, we’ve got to get something else.”
Steph Curry is tired of listening to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”
Lamar would probably love to release another Drake diss track. The only surer bet than USA Basketball winning Olympic gold might be Lamar having several Drake diss tracks in the vault, ready for deployment at any given moment. But for now, “Not Like Us” is the soundtrack to Lamar’s victory lap.
The high-profile racketeering case against Young Thug was assigned a new judge after the old one was removed, but the new judge is already off the case. According to local news coverage, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shukura Ingram was randomly assigned to the case on Monday (July 15), but today filed an Order of Recusal taking herself off the case.
Her reason for recusing herself was to avoid any appearance of favoritism or bias after it was revealed last June that her court deputy was involved in an inappropriate relationship with one of the YSL case’s co-defendants, Christian Eppinger. The former deputy had been assigned to Judge Ingram’s courtroom for almost six months by the time the relationship was discovered, and the deputy was arrested.
The deputy, identified by local news as Akeiba Stanley, was arrested after Fulton County deputies seized Eppinger’s attorney Eric Johnson’s laptop, after discovering it was being used to allow him to communicate with alleged YSL members not in custody. Stanley also allegedly used a phone to communicate with Eppinger, visited him in his jail cell, and tried to smuggle contraband into the jail for him.
Although Ingram maintained in her order that she didn’t think the connection constituted any “actual bias for or against any party to this case” (a pretty boilerplate response for this situation), she acknowledged that it could affect public perception. A new judge, Paige Reese Whitaker, has been assigned to the case. The prior one, Judge Ural Glanville, was recused after a third-party review following his order to hold Thug’s attorney Brian Steel in criminal contempt of court.
July hasn’t been a big month for football fans for a long time. In college football you get media days and in the NFL you get the beginning of camp, but for the most part fans are still firmly in offseason mode until August when camp ramps up and preseason games happen.
However, the return of the EA Sports College Football franchise has made this July far more exciting for football fans, as this week brought the release of the game (early access for the Deluxe Edition began Monday, with the full release coming on Friday). It has been everything fans hoped the game would be, and it’s not just those of us who sit on our couches and watch football that have been locked in since it released.
Everyone from LeBron James (who has been playing at his hotel in Abu Dhabi with USA Basketball) to Patrick Mahomes have been dialed in. As Mahomes arrives at Chiefs camp, he said he’s doing something new with his training camp routine by bringing a TV for the first time in his career. Why? Cause that Texas Tech dynasty isn’t going to build itself.
It really is incredible how many people are so excited for this game after it was gone for a decade, especially among current football stars who are just excited to take their alma maters back to glory. It’s just an itch that Madden couldn’t scratch, and now that it’s back it is filling that void we’ve all missed — and is going to require everyone, including NFL greats, to figure out how to manage their time in building a virtual program and getting their actual work done in real life.
Default parents need a break. Back-up parents need opportunities to bond with kids. Kids need fun weekend activities. Meeting all these separate needs might seem impossible, but one mom has shared how she and her husband make it happen.
In a video posted to her TikTok, Kelly Irene explains how implementing “Dadurdays” (cute name, right?) were a game changer. In fact, they’ve “slowly become one of the most anticipated days of the week.”
Here’s what a typical Dadurday looks like:
“Basically every Saturday … we do this where my husband will take our toddler, and they will just go off on these little adventures together. I am not invited. This is just daddy and daughter’s special time, and they go and they have the time of their lives. They might go to the beach. or they might go to a waterfall or go on a hike. Or they might just go swimming in town, like whatever. They do whatever they want. I don’t even ask. None of my business. They are going off and having the time of their lives,” Kelly says.
She goes on to say that both her husband and daughter “live for it,” since it makes up for lost time during the work week.
“When Saturday rolls around, it’s his time to shine.”
And when Dadurday is complete, their daughter is thoroughly wiped and ready for a long nap, making for a very peaceful Saturday night.
“It’s just a great experience for everyone. All around. Couldn’t recommend it enough. And I do recognize we only have one child. So I’m sure as our family expands, Dadurday is probably going to look a little different. It’s going to evolve!” Kelly concludes.
Kelly’s family is apparently not the only one to implement this type of strategy. Soon other parents shared their own spins on Dadurdays.
“We call it Public Transportation Day because both my son and husband love the bus,” one person wrote. “They go wherever they can go on the bus or the subway and come back with stories of adventure.”
“We call it Saturdaddy,” added another.
Several dads chimed in to share how much the value getting to have Dadurdays.
“Saturdays are the day my wife sleeps in, I get up with the baby and we go to the hardware store, run errands and get doughnuts! Come home mid-morning when mom’s rested!” one commented.
Another said: “Girl dad here.. I’m totally doing this. Love it.”
And of course, just because the fun name is new, the concept has been around for a minute.
“When I was a toddler my dad took me to zoo, McDonald’s, and target for a my little pony every Friday. I’m 22 now and this was my favorite thing that I did with my dad to this day!” recalled one viewer.
As for what Kelly does during Dadurdays, she said in a follow-up video that it always changes.
“Some days I just rot, and I don’t do anything productive. I just lay around. If that’s what I need — to be a potato for a day — I’ll do that. But other days like today … I’m just doing a bunch of laundry and getting packed because we leave for California in a couple days. My very best friend is getting married, so I’m just getting ready for that. It’s a lot easier to do that when I’m all by myself.”
But one thing remains the same: “Dadurday is just as much for me as it is for dad.”

Fox released its fall 2024 schedule this week, which includes premiere dates for mainstays like The Simpsons (September 29), Bob’s Burgers (September 29), and The Masked Singer (September 25), but no Family Guy, which won’t debut until midseason. Also returning: 9-1-1: Lone Star, which is back Monday, September 23, at 8 p.m. EST. The Texas-set 9-1-1 spin-off starring Rob Lowe will be entering its fifth season, and possibly its last?
Last month, Deadline reported that several series regulars are looking for new jobs. Natacha Karam, who plays Marjan Marwani, wrote in an Instagram Story, “Eight more shooting days left after five years on a show is a wild feeling. So much change on the horizon.” Meanwhile, Sierra McClain (Grace Ryder) “quietly left following some cast renegotiation drama.”
The cast is under options until production on the new season wraps July 19, sources said. From what we hear, it is unlikely that the options would be extended, so the series’ fate will probably be determined before that. There is some hope at the network for finding a path to keep Lone Star going but most signs point to Season 5 being the final chapter.
As for Lowe, “if Fox tries to bring the show back after the cast’s options expire, he would be willing to return.” Why not just let Lone Star end and start over with a different 9-1-1 spin-off? Let’s see what 9-1-1: Nutmeg State is like.
Chappell Roan has become a mainstream music star this year. (“Good Luck, Babe!” might end up being the song of the summer.) Fame introduces a lot of new elements to your life, but it also takes some away. On the latter front, there’s a handful of pre-fame pastimes that Roan now looks back on fondly.
On a new episode of the podcast The Comment Section With Drew Afualo, Roan and Afualo were talking about things they used to do before they were famous, things they don’t do anymore and now miss. Roan said, “Drugs. Drugs in public. That’s what I miss. It’s just like… rolling up, being a f*cking freak at the bar, or making out with someone at the bar. […] I miss frolicking, obviously, because now I’m [too] self-conscious to frolic. […] I miss probably just being in Forever 21 and not being judged, you know what I mean?”

This isn’t the first time Roan has discussed adjusting to her newfound success and notoriety. On stage in June, an emotional Roan told her concert audience, “I just want to be honest with the crowd: I just feel a little off today because I think that my career is just kind of going really fast and it’s really hard to keep up. And so I’m just being honest that… I’m just having a hard time today. […] I’m sorry. I’m not trying to give you, like, a lesser show, it’s just like, there’s a lot going on. So, just thank you for understanding. This is all I’ve ever wanted, it’s just so… it’s just heavy sometimes.”
It’s not easy to be a Love Island fan. Some people can handle it, but most people can’t. You need to be willing to dedicate yourself to a minimum of six nights a week (not including podcasts!!) of constant complaining, avocado toast-making, and men outwardly lying just to keep up with the show. Couples can change overnight, people get voted off, and suddenly your whole summer has been taken over by a snake wrangler named Robert.
Day one was 31 episodes ago, and so much has changed since then. Since things move fast in the villa, it’s hard to remember just what has gone down over the last month, who is beefing with who, and what really happened at Casa Amor (though we may never know for sure). Here is a recap of the drama surrounding the couples ahead of the finale so you know who to vote for when the time comes.
Aaron and Kaylor
These two have had a rocky beginning, middle, and possibly end. The duo became paired up on day one and quickly became the house couple…that is until the boys spent time at Casa Amor. At Casa, Aaron quickly attached himself to Daniela while Kaylor stayed single at the Villa. When he returned to the Villa, Kaylor decided to remain single after she was shown footage of Aaron biting Daniela. Really. This was before she even knew that Aaron used the same handshake on the two of them, which is one of the worst things you could ever do to a person. Kaylor and Aaron made up (for the third time), when Aaron asked Kaylor to be his girlfriend, but they were in the bottom three couples on Tuesday night, putting their future in jeopardy.
Rob and Kassy
Rob, a self-proclaimed Onion, has been in six (!!!) different couples throughout his time in Love Island (not including his short stint in Casa Amor last season). At first, he was coupled with Liv, then Leah, which did not end well for him as he nearly drowned himself in the pool trying to escape the cameras.
Rob then famously chose Bombshell Andrea over Leah, but then Andrea was sent home, inspiring Rob’s Emmy-worthy performance in which he wanted to go with her (he didn’t). Rob then coupled up with Daniela from Casa Amor (yes, the very same Daniela who bit Aaron, make sure to keep up) but he broke it off with her on Tuesday’s episode, making him vulnerable and at risk of elimination.
However, Rob was saved during the eleventh hour when season five islander Kassy returned to pick him. Why did they call in an islander the last week just to save Rob for elimination? Rob is a fan favorite to some, so they clearly didn’t want him off the island just yet. However, the islanders have seemingly been trying to lightly suggest Rob and Leah back together. Instead, Rob could focus on not rolling his eves every other minute.

Early on, Leah was open about her feelings for Rob, who seemed to reciprocate… until the bombshell islanders arrived. Leah and Rob hashed it out after an emotional recoupling, and eventually she was paired off with Connor before Miguel arrived on day 10, and they were a couple shortly after, though they were never “closed off” to other islanders.
At Casa Amor, Miguel chose to bring Sierra back, but eventually he gravitated back to Leah, and now they are a couple. But Love Island is never that easy, and fans are pushing for Leah and Rob to reunite once again in the form of dramatic TikTok complications. Where will this leave Miguel? Well, before Love Island, Miguel had a small stint on Ted Lasso, where he was a contestant on the Love Island spoof Lust Conquers All, so he will probably just keep pursuing his acting dreams after the Villa. Even though Rob is the real actor here.
Serena and Kordell
Serena and Kordel coupled up on day one, though over the first week, Serena admitted early on that it was more of a platonic friendship. After the two got to know each other, their coupling remained strong, until Casa Amor struck again!!
After meeting the Casa girls, Kordell picked Daia to couple up with, which did not go over well with Serena:
The two were on the outs for a while, but eventually Kordell cut it off with Daia, who was then dumped from the island, and Serena offered him another shot, and they are now in a couple once again. It doesn’t seem platonic this time.
Kenny and JaNa
JaNa might not have found in the beginning of Love Island, but she did inspire a good chunk of memes, so her time on the island has been very valuable.
Kenny entered the Villa on day 15 and was immediately smitten with JaNa… before heading to Casa to become immediately smitten with Catherine. After he cut things off with Catherine, he delivered the most powerful recoupling speech to ever be uttered in Love Island history, so maybe we can all agree his Casa moment was just a fluke!
Kendall and Nicole
These two have been paired up since Nicole entered the Villa as a bombshell on day 8. They seem to have a good thing going, but at Casa Amor, Kendall was criticized for encouraging his fellow male islanders to stray from their couples, which cause a rift between Kendall and the girls.
Then, online sleuths found out that Kendall might have dumped his girlfriend in order to be on the show, which may or may not be true, but it has turned most LI fans against him, and by association, Nicole.
Aaron and Rob
They aren’t in a couple, but these two are…weird. They seem to be more emotional about each other instead of their partners, and perhaps there is some codependency here, but expect some intense crying when either Rob or Aaron head home. And they keep sharing the same shirt. Give these boys more clothes!
The Love Island USA finale streams Sunday, July 21 at 9 pm on Peacock.
It’s never too late to get an education. In fact, more people should consider sharpening up on those skills later in life, especially actors. Those streaming gigs won’t last forever! Time to brush up on your times tables and learn some real skills, aside from just crying on cue and winning awards.
Glen Powell is the movie star of the summer, but he also knows how important an education is, so he has decided to finish his college degree at the University of Texas at Austin over Zoom. “I’m not going to be sitting in a class with other students on the regular,” Powell told IndieWire. Even though he won’t be in the class, he will still be doing assignments and the work.
“I’m obviously going to be coming in, Zooming in for classes and whatnot, but I have to be back for the proctored exams,” Powell explained. “I’m basically going to be coming back because I have to finish up, but I’m going to be shooting The Running Man in the fall. So I’m going to be in London, but I am going to be going back for proctored exams. So, they’re letting me figure it out [with] distance learning.” The degree, as he previously mentioned, is in Spanish and Early American History.
When he’s not studying history textbooks, Powell will work on The Running Man remake with director Edgar Wright. “Edgar has been very nice about letting me finish my degree in the middle of his massive movie,” he said. “The world that Edgar’s developed on this thing is just outrageous. It’s so good. And really, we’re just both such big fans of the Stephen King book, and it’s going to be a great character. I’m so fired up about it.”
Eventually, Powell can take this degree and become a teacher who moonlights as an FBI agent. That will be some full circle stuff.
