Drake’s Cameo In A State Farm Super Bowl Commercial Has Fans In Their Feelings

Drake is due to drop his new album Certified Lover Boy any minute now, after delaying it due to healing issues with an ACL injury, which can be a pretty severe one without proper rest and recovery. His main producer, 40, has let fans know that they’ve been working on the record virtually, but in the meantime, Drizzy made a cameo in a Super Bowl commercial today to tide fans over until new music arrives. In the clip, Aaron Rodgers and Paul Rudd mull over stand-ins who don’t quite seem to make sense, while Jake from State Farm realizes that his stand-in is none other than Drake himself.

While Drake and Jake fumble back and forth over State Farm’s signature sign off, “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there,” fans loved getting a glimpse of the R&B superstar in an understated red polo. Have we all been in lockdown for too long, or is Drake simply looking better than ever with the heart razored into his hairline? Let’s just say the end of lockdown can’t come quickly enough, and neither can the official drop of Certified Lover Boy. Check out the new ad above and some reactions from fans below.

Tom Brady And Rob Gronkowski Linked Up For A Record-Setting Touchdown In Super Bowl LV

The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the scoring in the first quarter of Super Bowl LV, marching down the field on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense on their second drive of the game and settling for three. Tampa’s offense was stuck in the mud as it started the game, but right before the end of the first quarter, their Hall of Fame quarterback and tight end duo put them on top.

The Bucs marched down the field against the Kansas City defense, finding themselves in the red zone with less than a minute remaining in the frame. While there, Tom Brady dropped back and found perhaps his all-time favorite target, dumping it off to Rob Gronkowski. The big man did the rest, rumbling into the end zone and putting Tampa Bay up, 7-3.

Somewhere watching the game, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice saw one of their records go down in flames. That’s because this eight-yard link up was the 13th time that Brady found Gronkowski for a score in the postseason in their careers, the most all-time for a quarterback and pass catcher duo.

As an added bonus, this score was a new one for Brady, as he had never found the end zone in the first quarter of a Super Bowl in his career. Seeing as how he’s made it to 10 of them, that’s certainly eyebrow-raising.

The ‘Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Super Bowl Trailer Pairs Up Two Avengers To Fight An Old Enemy

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has only just begun its run of Disney+ shows, and it kicked off with a doozy: WandaVision, which is by far the strangest and most ambitious thing the brand has yet unleashed, and in a way that has entranced, not angered, the fan base. From the looks of its Super Bowl teaser, it looks like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is more typically Marvel-esque, with its action scenes and mispaired duo and even an old enemy we haven’t seen in five years.

That pair is Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, and the last time we saw them they were bidding farewell to their shared buddy: an old Steve Rogers. The two never had much interaction previously, but the show forces them to team up anyway, much like Hobbs and Shaw. Their mission: to take down Baron Helmut Zemo, Daniel Brühl’s Captain America: Civil War baddie, who’s been laying low in prison, awaiting his fearsome return.

This is a TV show but it looks extraordinarily expensive, with the kinds of special effects and camerawork you see in any of the MCU. And it is expensive: The whole six episodes reportedly cost $150 million. And if you have Disney+, you won’t even have to fork over any extra dough to see it.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier debuts its first episode on March 19 and you can watch the trailer in the video above.

The ‘Old’ Trailer Is The New Intriguing Mystery From M. Night Shyamalan

After returning to the Unbreakable-verse with Split and Glass (and drowning Bruce Willis in a puddle in the process), M. Night Shyamalan is back to stand-alone thrillers with his new movie. Based on the French graphic novel by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frederik Peeters, Old is about a family spending its vacation on an idyllic beach. Pretty normal so far! The M. Night twist: everyone begins to age rapidly. “You were six years old this morning,” a worried mom (played by Phantom Thread standout Vicky Krieps) says about her 20-something son (Alex Wolff). Gael García Bernal, Eliza Scanlen, and Thomasin McKenzie round out the fantastic cast. Old looks pretty good, even if it’s rude to premiere a trailer for a movie with that title during a Super Bowl with Tom Brady.

Here’s the official plot synopsis.

This summer, visionary filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan unveils a chilling, mysterious new thriller about a family on a tropical holiday who discover that the secluded beach where they are relaxing for a few hours is somehow causing them to age rapidly … reducing their entire lives into a single day.

Old is scheduled to be released in July. But if you need to get your Shyamalan fix before then, season two of Servant recently premiered on Apple TV+.

Watch Jazmine Sullivan And Eric Church Split National Anthem Duties Before Superbowl LV

The honor of performing the National Anthem before a major sporting or political event usually goes to one person, but this year the duties are being split. Both Jazmine Sullivan, whose excellent new album Heaux Tales is on its way to instant-classic status, and country star Eric Church, will be performing the patriotic staple before today’s big game. Church also has new music on the way for fans, with his triple album Heart & Soul slated for release this April. And this isn’t the only unexpected collaboration before the game began, Miley Cyrus was joined by Billy Idol and Joan Jett for a pre-show concert.

During their performance on Sunday afternoon, the pair alternated verses before joining together in harmony on the final high notes. Eric kicked things off by taking the first few phrases of the song, accompanied only by strumming his guitar, Jazmine came in for the second verse, flexing her substantial vocal skills with runs and held notes. Most impressive though was when they took the most famous passage together.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off in Super Bowl LV today, check out more coverage here and watch the video of the anthem performance above.

Morgan Wallen’s ‘Dangerous’ Remains At No. 1 Days After He Was Caught Using A Racial Slur

Morgan Wallen’s sophomore album Dangerous: The Double Album holds on to the top spot on the Billboard album charts for a fourth straight week. The singer tallied 149,000 equivalent album units this past week, 118,000 of those streaming equivalent album units and 25,000 coming from pure album sales. Dangerous is now the first country album to spend its first four consecutive weeks at No. 1 since Shania Twain’s Ups! did so between December 7, 2002 and January 2003. It’s also the first album by a male country singer to spend its first four weeks atop the charts since Garth Brooks’ Double Live between December 5, 1998 and January 2, 1999.

While his extended stay atop the charts is definitely a highlight for Wallen’s career, it comes after a video captured him using a racial slur. He issued an apology for his use of the n-word, saying, “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back.” Unfortunately for him, the damage was already done as his recorded label Big Loud Records said Wallen’s behavior “will not be tolerated” and suspended his contract indefinitely.

Elsewhere on the charts, Lil Durk’s The Voice came in at No. 2 and Pop Smoke’s Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon can be spotted at No. 3. Super Bowl LV halftime show performer The Weeknd and his After Hours album posts up at No. 4 while Juice WRLD’s Legends Never Die rounds out the top five.

Vin Diesel Returns To His Old, Exciting Life In The ‘F9’ Super Bowl Commercial

In another timeline, we would have all seen F9 — aka Fast & Furious 9 — back in May and been happy for the first in 20-year-old series in three years. Instead thing got out of hand, and we’re still a few months away from its new release date. Who knows how safe movie theaters will even be in late May, when it’s set to finally emerge. And just to hold you over, here’s a brand new Super Bowl ad, featuring a taste of some of the craziness from the official trailer released over a year ago.

Like we said, the ad is short on some of that trailer’s more ridiculous moments. No outracting a collapsing rope bridge. No Vin Diesel appearing to catch a car. No magnet plane. (There is a building completely collapsing, though.) Instead it keeps things simple, focusing on how Diesel’s Dominic Toretto — now a farmer, it seems — gets sucked back in. That character arc has taken on some added resonance in the last year, when many of us have been afraid to go to movie theaters, to see big, proudly idiotic movies like F9 on a big screen, with great sound, surrounded by total strangers.

But for now, ignore all that. Here’s some car crashes and Charlize Theron’s new bowl cut and Diesel’s grumbling mumble. And perhaps, when it hits theaters on May 28, things will be safe enough for us to enjoy the glorious dumbness together.

Cardi B Says Someone ‘Dropped The Ball’ During The Rollout Of Her Single ‘Up’

Cardi B had a huge 2020, thanks to her Megan Thee Stallion collaboration “WAP,”and she was quick to release a new single for 2021, namely “Up.” The track arrived with an exciting music video, but both have been a little hard to find on iTunes. So she took to Instagram Live to express her frustrations and share some updates with followers.

“I’m really grateful for the music video, it’s turning out amazing,” she said during the livestream. “I’m really upset right now. The Devil has been working really f*cking hard, let me tell you. Because, I know people are having troubles finding the song on iTunes. I don’t even think the music video is up on iTunes yet.” She added, “I don’t know who dropped the ball and gave in or didn’t gave in or whatever to iTunes, but I’ve been working. I’ve been calling people on the label all night. I don’t know. Make sure you check it out on all streaming services. I think the song was turned in late to avoid leaks and stuff. ”

In addition to the botched video release, Cardi was recently accused of plagiarism by New Jersey rappers Mir Fontane and Mir Pesos. The duo claims she stole the hook to their August 2020 song “Stuck” to use on her “Up.” Cardi denied the accusations and said she “never Hurd [of] this man.” This was also the second time in the last 12 months that Cardi was accused of plagiarism with her music. In June 2020, an underground rapper pointed out similarities in one of her songs to that of Cardi’s verses on Offset’s “Clout” and Blueface’s “Thotiana (Remix).”

You can watch the full video above.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Miley Cyrus Brought Out Billy Idol For A Medley Of ‘Night Crawling’ And ‘White Wedding’ During Her Super Bowl Pre-Show

Miley Cyrus released her excellent rock-shifted album Plastic Hearts late last year, and given the constraints of the pandemic hasn’t really been able to perform a lot off the songs live since it came out. But during the pre-show activities for the Superbowl today, Miley was finally able to take the stage and air out some of her new material. One of her newer songs, “Night Crawling,” features a cameo from the legend Billy Idol, who managed to show up for an appearance during the performance.

Clad in a magenta and black cheerleader-style outfit, Miley welcomed Idol out onto the stage early into the song, sporting all leather, black and red — complete with black boots. During her performance in Tampa, Billy and Miley also worked in one of Idol’s hits, going straight into “White Wedding” after he joined her for “Night Crawling.” It was a nice moment to see the artists celebrate with songs from their own respective eras, and the chemistry on stage between these two suggests the might have more in store for us — it looked like more than just a studio meetup between two artists. If Billy goes on tour with Miley when that’s finally possible again, I’m definitely interested in that show. Joan Jett also joined her later for their collaboration, “Bad Liar.” Watch above.
