Kaley Cuoco Had The Most Wonderful (And Cathartic) Reaction To Her Golden Globes Nomination

Kaley Cuoco isn’t suffering for a total lack of nominations for her work. I mean, there are plenty of Teen Choice Awards, People’s Choice Awards, a few Critics’ Choice Awards, and ohhh yeah, those Golden Raspberry Awards. That’s kind-of to be expected when one has a long-term gig playing “the blonde” on a show like The Big Bang Theory, but Kaley could do more. She knew it, and we suspected it (after admittedly underestimating her for too long), and she’s pulling it off with a Golden Globe nomination for her work in HBO Max’s fantastic The Flight Attendant.

Granted, this year’s list of nominations feels even more chaotic than usual. Some mind-boggling and egregious snubs (I May Destroy You and Da 5 Bloods) occurred, and that hurt won’t go away anytime soon. However, Kaley received a much-deserved nod, and her reaction was priceless. As captured in this video, you can almost tangibly see the relief she’s feeling after receiving very little acclaim for her acting for many years.

Validation is a wonderful thing. If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching The Flight Attendant on HBO Max, I suggest you do so soon. The entire first season’s available for streaming, and a second round is in the works. It’s a freaking fun show (surprisingly, since it revolves around an enormously bloody murder), and Kaley makes a terrific turn in a punchy, darkly comedic role. We wish her all the luck in taking down her rivals at the Globes ceremony on February 28.

The Weeknd Reveals The Meaning Of His Extreme Plastic Surgery Look

The Weeknd (who just announced 2022 tour dates today) has turned heads for what he turned his head into lately: Over the course of multiple music videos and public appearances, The Weeknd went from looking how he usually does to being covered in bandages to emerging with exaggerated, seemingly surgically-altered features. This is all part of the world The Weeknd has built for his album After Hours, and now he has explained the meaning behind his facial rework.

In a brief interview with Variety, The Weeknd said, “The significance of the entire head bandages is reflecting on the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity and people manipulating themselves for superficial reasons to please and be validated.” He added of the look’s fit into the narrative of his After Hours videos, “It’s all a progression and we watch The Character’s storyline hit heightened levels of danger and absurdity as his tale goes on.”

He was then asked, “What can we take from the fact that you seem to be intentionally making your face increasingly unattractive while promoting your biggest album?” He responded, “I suppose you could take that being attractive isn’t important to me but a compelling narrative is.”

Fans React To Lil Uzi Vert Reportedly Getting A Pink Diamond Embedded In His Forehead

Rappers are always trying to find new ways to flex. While some push their status as trendsetters, others look for ways to show off their wealth that haven’t been done before. From chains to grills to watches to literally getting their teeth replaced with diamonds (and vice versa), rappers can’t help but make ostentatious shows of their perceived riches.

However, Lil Uzi Vert may have found the ultimate way to put his money on display — and it’s so unusual, everyone on Twitter had thoughts about it. Given the expense and apparent physical cost involved, it doesn’t seem like this will become a trend, although anything could happen — every day, it seems like we’re closer to the Capitol from the Hunger Games series. The Philadelphia rapper apparently got a pink diamond embedded in the middle of his forehead like an overly-dedicated Steven Universe cosplayer, and let’s just say he’s getting all the attention such a move warrants.

Uzi has been known to troll fans pretty hard over the years, so it remains to be seen if he really got a diamond stuck to his forehead (how would that even work, really?). But he’s been getting facial modifications and upending fashion conventions his entire career, so it might not be too far-fetched to accept that he’s really just walking around with $24 million in his face now. The big question that remains now is: Where do we go from here, and what’s the next expensive move rappers will need to make to set themselves apart?

Elizabeth Olsen Is Teasing ‘WandaVision’s Own ‘Luke Skywalker Moment’ That’s On The Way From Disney+

As WandaVision prepares to go into its back half after pulling back the curtain on some of the show’s mystery in Episode 4, “We Interrupt This Program,” Elizabeth Olsen dropped a hint that a major MCU star could be popping up on the show. According to Olsen, fans have no idea who it is and the reveal will be on par with Luke Skywalker’s surprise appearance on the season two finale of The Mandalorian. Via TVLine:

When asked if WandaVision has anything similar in store — namely a casting that she can’t believe hasn’t leaked yet — Olsen gave us a quick, “Yes.” And though she dared not offer any specifics, she did share with a laugh that “I’m really excited” for viewers to see what (or who) is coming.

As for which (maybe) MCU star Olsen is talking about, it could be anybody! From the moment WandaVision was announced, Marvel made it a point to emphasize that it would lead directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so Olsen could be talking about Benedict Cumberbatch, but it seems like a Doctor Strange would be a given at this point, and not really a jaw-dropping “Luke” moment. Plus, Cumberbatch will also be mentoring Spider-Man, so it’s pretty much expected that Strange will be bouncing around the MCU.

However, Olsen isn’t the only one who’s teased a surprise actor on WandaVision. Before the show even aired, Paul Bettany revealed to The Independent that the series landed an actor that fans won’t believe. “I get to work with an actor that’s going to be a surprise for everybody,” Bettany said. “I’ve been wanting to work with [this actor] forever who is just unbelievable and we have some real fireworks together.”

Assuming Olsen and Bettany are talking about the same person, the surprise star is an actor that Bettany hasn’t worked with before, but (maybe) has starred in the MCU. So, basically, your guess is as good as ours right now.

Meek Mill Shares A Snippet Of His Collaboration With The Late Pop Smoke

Meek Mill is the latest rap superstar to cosign the late Pop Smoke, sharing a snippet of a forthcoming music video featuring the two rappers on a suitably menacing sounding beat to his Instagram. At the time of his death, Pop Smoke was regularly in the studio recording verses for a number of guest features for rappers like Kid Cudi and Skepta, French Montana and Jay Guwapo, and Lil Tjay, which have slowly trickled out over the past year.

Pop Smoke was killed a year ago this month during a trip to Los Angeles, where a home invasion turned fatal for the New York rap favorite. News of his death was devastating for the hip-hop community, which poured out its collective appreciation at his contributions to the culture. Meanwhile, thanks to his prolific work ethic, he’s got plenty of posthumous music on the way, as well as his acting debut in Eddie Huang’s directorial debut, Boogie.

Meanwhile, Meek recently received some criticism for performing at a packed show in Houston with the pandemic death toll rising by the day. Considering he’s got his sights set on having a nine-figure income in the near future, his activity is no surprise, but perhaps he should keep putting out music like the song he teased on Instagram and find more healthy ways to pursue his goal.

Check out the snippet of Meek Mill and Pop Smoke’s Philly/New York crossover above.

The Golden Globes’ Staggering Snub Of ‘I May Destroy You’ Has Sparked A Social Media Outcry

This morning’s Golden Globes nominations generally open awards season, but (as you no doubt realize) that schedule is all kinds of messed up this year. Still, the awards ceremony will happen on February 28 (co-hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey on separate coasts), and expect it to be messy. Also messy? The actual nominations threw one heck of a stunner about five seconds into the live-streamed list:

Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy
Emily in Paris
The Flight Attendant
The Great
Schitt’s Creek
Ted Lasso

That list mostly makes sense, yes? Well, it does in 4 out of 5 ways, all except for the first entry, Emily in Paris, which certainly has its place as airy entertainment but is almost entirely devoid of substance. That’s likely by design (it is, after all, a production from Darren Star, the king of primetime soaps), but Emily’s also held out by the French as an “insulting” depiction of the country, and it feels like an unintended personification of white privilege when it comes to the title character. And that makes things even more perplexing when it comes to the complete snub of one of the most authentic, dazzling, and Best Shows of 2020, HBO’s I May Destroy You.

Arguably, this is a fiery and fearless show that could go either way, comedy or drama. It is more of a comedy, however, because although it deals with a bleak subject (sexual assault and consent), it is spiked with pitch-black humor. It’s an enormously funny show in places, but sure, it could arguably be shuffled over to the TV Drama category. I think fans would be satisfied enough with drama. Yet look, it didn’t end up there, either.

Best Television Series – Drama
The Crown
Lovecraft Country
The Mandalorian
Ozark
Ratched

In addition, not a single acting nomination from the show materialized from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Snubs do happen, yes, but this feels particularly egregious, especially since Michaela Coel — who multi-hyphenated as creator, writer, star, executive producer, and co-director — received zero recognition for her stunning and layered creation. Twitter’s calling shenanigans, in a major way, on this highly influential show being bypassed for other selections (very much including Emily in Paris).

See you back here for the Globes ceremony on February 28.

Dave Grohl’s All-Time Favorite Moment With Foo Fighters Just Happened In 2020

Foo Fighters have been rocking consistently since the mid-90s. Over all these years, based on the wide smile Dave Grohl has been sporting a majority of the time, it seems like he has had a lot of wonderful moments with the band. That said, Grohl thinks his favorite one may have actually just happened a few months ago.

The band sat down with EW for an oral history of the band, and when asked about his favorite moment with the group, Grohl answered, “My favorite moment? It changes every year, honestly. Doing SNL with Dave Chappelle a few months ago on the day they called the election, that might be my new one.”

So it turns out, then, that the band’s promo for the episode was actually prophetic. In it, Grohl makes a nod to the then-uncertain result of the presidential election and jokes, “I’m gonna call it right now: best show ever!”

Meanwhile, one of Taylor Hawkins’ favorite Foo Fighters moments is also SNL-related, as he answered, “Playing Wembley with Led Zeppelin was pretty nuts. Paul McCartney coming into the studio and playing drums on a song that I got to sing. And every time I get to play with Roger Taylor or Brian May [of Queen], that’s really special. It’s just all so surreal. Being Mick Jagger’s backing band on Saturday Night Live, too.”

‘Da 5 Bloods’ Was Ignored By The Golden Globes, Despite Spike Lee’s Kids Being This Year’s Ambassadors

Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods was one of the best movies of 2020, with fantastic performances from Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, and Chadwick Boseman and a searing screenplay from Lee, among others. But it wasn’t nominated for a single Golden Globe. That, in and of itself, isn’t noteworthy, as the Globes are chaos defined (Emily in Paris??? But no I May Destroy You???), but Da 5 Bloods getting snubbed is worth pointing out considering Lee’s kids are this year’s Golden Globes ambassadors.

Awkward.

As the Associated Press reported, “Satchel and Jackson Lee will assume the ambassador roles for the 78th annual Golden Globes Awards… Satchel, 26, and Jackson, 23, are the first siblings of color to hold the position. Jackson is the first Black male ambassador.” Satchel, the creative director for “queer/feminist/intersectional arts and culture magazine” DRØME, said that she is “proud to carry our father’s legacy of storytelling to bring attention to communities close to our hearts,” but it’s still going to be awkward for the kids to hand a trophy to Jared Leto instead of anyone in their dad’s film.

The Golden Globes ignoring Da 5 Bloods shouldn’t hurt its Oscars chances, however. The Netflix drama was named Best Film, Best Director, and Best Ensemble by the National Board of Review; it also appeared on the American Film Institute’s top-10 list for 2020. Neither organization nominated The Prom star James Corden for Best Actor, so they should be taken more seriously than the Globes.

The New Trailer For ‘Coming 2 America’ Goes Big On The Story (And Leslie Jones)

With a month to go until its release, Amazon has dropped a new trailer for Coming 2 America the long-awaited sequel to the 1988 comedy classic starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. While the first trailer didn’t go big on the plot and, instead, focused on showcasing the two leads reuniting with the original cast, including Murphy and Hall once again playing several side characters, this latest trailer sheds more light on the story in Coming 2 America.

As Murphy’s Prince Akeem returns to New York to locate a son he didn’t know he had, he also reunites with the boy’s mother played by Leslie Jones who brings the comedy right from the jump. Tracey Morgan is also along for the ride as Uncle Reem who tags along when Akeem flies the whole family to his royal palace where he’s dealing with an unhappy family, who are not thrilled about his illegitimate son, and Wesley Snipes‘ General Izzi who’s making it very known that he plans to overthrow Akeem and become the new ruler of Zamunda.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In the sequel, Prince Akeem is set to become king of the fictional country of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son he never knew about in America — a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. To honor the former king’s dying wish to groom his grandson as the crown prince, Akeem and Semmi set off to America. Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and James Earl Jones are reprising their roles. Additional cast includes Tracy Morgan and Jay Pharaoh.

Coming 2 America starts streaming March 5 on Amazon Prime Video.
