Jamal Murray Forced Overtime Against Phoenix With A Miraculous Three At The Buzzer

Denver has a pretty good idea of what to do in big moments: Give the ball to one of Nikola Jokic or Jamal Murray, let them do something in their two-man game, and watch them work. On Saturday night against the Phoenix Suns, Murray got the call to be the one to come up big, and boy, did he answer.

The Nuggets found themselves down 98-95 on the game’s final possession. Jokic had the ball at the top of the key, got it to Murray, and the high-scoring guard managed to get the switch he wanted, as Suns big man Deandre Ayton tried to check him. Ayton did a pretty decent job for the most part, but Murray was able to create just enough space right before the final buzzer to rise and fire.

Despite the fact that there was some contact and Ayton, candidly, was pretty fortunate to avoid a foul call, Murray was able to get a shot away from deep and converted to force an extra period.

Murray had 19 points on 8-for-18 shooting before he pulled up here, and let’s be clear: If the official wanted, they probably could have gotten away with calling a foul and giving Murray a chance to win the game at the free throw line. Regardless, Murray established a bit of a reputation in the NBA’s Orlando Bubble for his ability to come up big in huge moments, and with this shot, he again showed that he has quite the flair for the dramatic.

GOP Congressman Madison Cawthorn Got Crushed By Pamela Brown On CNN When He Fumbled Through Baseless Voter Fraud Claims

Republicans have certainly had an interesting few weeks in America as the Donald Trump presidency wound down and Joe Biden’s time in office got underway. There was a Trump-incited coup attempt that many notable Republicans encouraged in their own way, both with inflammatory rhetoric and an attempt to object to the electoral college results that failed as well.

One of the Republican lawmakers who voted to object to the will of the American people was Madison Cawthorn, a freshman lawmaker from North Carolina who has stood by Donald Trump and his baseless claims that massive, widespread voter fraud somehow cost him the election he lost in the Electoral College by several states.

On Saturday, Cawthorn appeared on CNN and was interviewed by Pamela Brown, who questioned that support and asked him to present any actual evidence of his claims that Trump lost a rigged election. And while Cawthorn tried to stick to his talking points, he simply came up empty when offering proof, sputtering through an interview that was quickly mocked on social media.

“But this was all litigated,” Brown said of Cawthorn’s repeated attempts to cry fraud in Wisconsin. “You know that the Trump campaign litigated all of this, more than 60 cases and they lost. Either the cases were dismissed, the Trump campaign withdrew or they never brought a case because the Trump campaign didn’t have the evidence to back it up.”

Cawthorn actually agreed with that fact, but kept trying to claim things were amiss. So Brown kept pressing, and people were quick to point out that even some of the things Cawthorn did manage to say were simply not true.

Brown eventually asked Cawthorn directly to present specific instances of voter fraud, not just suspicions or wild conspiracy theories that were never proven in court or anywhere at all. Cawthorn answered “no” but kept trying to explain why he contested the election without any evidence of fraud at all.

“So you wanted to throw out millions of votes without ever seeing any concrete evidence of fraud?” Brown asked. “Because that’s what you were doing when you contested the election. The intent there was throwing out millions of votes.”

There was a long, awkward pause before Cawthorn simply said “well I disagree with you on that point,” claiming he wanted to “uphold the constitution” while going back to baselessly claiming “ballot harvesting” occurred in Wisconsin. So Brown continued.

“So you knew more than the judge, the Trump-appointed judge, who actually looked at that case before the election and dismissed the Trump campaign’s argument that drop boxes are unconstitutional?” Brown asked. “And if you would, would you point me to where in the constitution it says that drop boxes are unconstitutional? I don’t recall seeing that in the constitution.”

The longer the interview went on, the worse it got for Cawthorn, who at one point was embarrassingly didn’t know his own state changed voting rules in the leadup to the 2020 election because of the coronavirus pandemic. Brown asked Cawthorn why he didn’t object to those rule changes in North Carolina but claims that similar rule changes in Wisconsin were, in his words, “unconstitutional.”

“I’m just wondering,” Brown said, “If you’re so concerned about these rules being changed with the election, why wouldn’t you focus on your own home state of North Carolina? You’re telling me your focus is about election integrity, not politics, not the results of the election, right?”

Brown’s biggest point in that line of questioning is that North Carolina actually did see voter fraud in the 2018 midterm elections, and yet somehow Cawthorn isn’t worried about rule changes that were made even after people started voting there but somehow thinks Wisconsin was awash in fraud. In other words, it wasn’t a very good appearance for the young GOP representative on national television. But it was a very thorough and well-prepared Brown that made for good TV on Saturday night.

‘Chopped And Screwed: The Final Mixtape’ Is A Film About DJ Screw — Watch The First Trailer

When it comes to the world of hip-hop in 2021, it’s hard to downplay the importance of Houston, Texas. For one thing, it’s the hometown of Megan Thee Stallion, who is one of the most influential, and certainly the most resilient, rapper doing it right now. Don’t even get Texans started on the impact of Beyonce — we’ll be here all night. But even deeper than that, the influence of early ’90s pioneer DJ Screw is felt everywhere. A new documentary from Texan filmmaker Isaac Yowman attempts to pin down just how important Screw and his chopped and screwed style was for the evolution of modern rap music.

The feature length film is scheduled to come out at the end of this year, though distributors and streaming partners are still being determined. Along with Yowman, the film was executive produced by Joseph Litzinger, of Life Below Zero, and includes Bruce Kalmick and Darby Wheeler and Rodrigo Bascunan, the producers of Netflix’s Peabody and Emmy-winning show Hip Hop Evolution. Additionally, Michelle Wheeler, the sister of DJ Screw, was a consulting producer on the project.

Along with Screw’ impact on the music industry, the film also addresses his issues with police brutality and racism. Considering Screw was friends with George Floyd, who was a member of his Screwed Up Click, the connection with those issues runs deep. His story is told through first person interviews with people who were close to him and artists that cite his work as an influence. The film will explore his rise, the impact of his sound, and his death in 2000.

“The idea of telling the story of DJ Screw is just as important today as it was during the time of his passing in 2000,” Yowman told Billboard in an official statement. “A tale of overcoming the odds, racial injustice and inspiration to many. This film will show the power of a man that prevailed over the adversities that blanketed his community and used his experiences to create a legacy that lives on today. Screw’s impact on southern culture is no secret, but his influence on music globally is a story untold.”

Report: Francis Ngannou Will Finally Get His Heavyweight Title Shot At UFC 260

After close to 10 months of waiting, Francis Ngannou will finally get an opportunity at redemption against UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Miocic-Ngannou II is done for March 27 at UFC 260 as the main event.

After closing out his trilogy with Daniel Cormier back in August, Miocic turned his attention to a slew of potential opponents ranging from Ngannou to former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. But in the end, it was Ngannou’s stellar run that earned the contender another shot at UFC gold.

After dropping his first title shot to Miocic in what was a career-altering loss in 2018, it was fair to question the future for Ngannou. Miocic outworked Ngannou, using precise strikes and a heavy ground game to frustrate the rising star. He stumbled through a decision loss to Derrick Lewis and had clearly lost his confidence. Since then, Ngannou has been on a tear, needing less than two minutes to knock out each of his last four opponents.

Ngannou has now beaten top contenders Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos, and the formerly-unbeaten Jairzinho Rozenstruik in his last three fights. In his last fight, a showdown with Rozenstruik, Ngannou needed just 18 seconds to earn the victory and place his next target on Miocic.

In the co-main event, Alexander Volkanovski will move on from his two wins against Max Holloway in his second title defense, this time against Brian Ortega.

Dwight Howard Got A Technical Foul Because He Complained About Getting His Pants Ripped

Listen, Dwight Howard has a bit of a reputation that does not always lead to him being painted in the best light. That reputation does not include being someone who would come up with some extravagant lie to get out of being called for a foul that involves getting his pants ripped, and then ripping his pants to make the lie seem more realistic, or anything of that sort.

Despite this, Dwight Howard got called for a foul on Saturday night against the Detroit Pistons on a sequence in which Pistons rookie Isaiah Stewart tangled for a rebound with the veteran big man. Stewart grabbed hold of Howard’s pants for leverage, and Howard responded by getting a bit too handsy, leading to a foul call against the Sixers center.

The issue was that Stewart grabbed a lot of Howard’s pants, causing them to rip. Howard, confused about how he got away with that, complained to the officials, who decided they did not want to hear him complain about this and hit him with a technical foul.

In fairness to the referees, Howard did toss Stewart aside and probably should have gotten called for a foul under most circumstances. But also, if there is any circumstance where this would be acceptable, it’d almost certainly be one where someone SpongeBobs you.

‘Euphoria’ Creator Sam Levinson Hopes Season 2 Starts Filming Soon And Wants It To Air On HBO By The End Of 2021

HBO Max subscribers got an early look at the special Euphoria episode that detailed what Jules was up to between seasons of the HBO teen drama. And though the two-part interlude helped expand the show’s universe and fill in the blanks after the Season 1 finale, fans are eager to get more of the show by way of a full season.

The coronavirus pandemic has delayed Season 2 considerably, as shooting for that season was scuttled in the early days of lockdown in 2020. In its place came the two between-season episodes, but according to an IndieWire report, Euphoria creator Sam Levinson has high hopes to not only film Euphoria‘s second season in 2021, but get it on HBO before the year is out as well.

During an interview this week on IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast to promote his upcoming Netflix feature film “Malcolm & Marie,” Levinson confirmed the plan is to start filming “Euphoria” Season 2 in late March. The creator added, “And the goal is to release episodes this year, so that’s hopefully [what will happen].” Of course the pandemic could change these plans, but Levinson’s goal is to start filming in March and start rollout on completed episodes on HBO before the end of December.

That plan would put the show’s second season on track to start filming a full year after it was originally intended, but Levinson’s desire to get the season on air before the end of the year is certainly notable. Meanwhile, star Hunter Schafer, who co-wrote the Jules-centric episode with Levinson, talked to the Los Angeles Times about the episode and remained tight-lipped about what may be ahead for Season 2.

Schafer was careful about revealing what’s in store for the pair in Season 2, only sharing the two will “reexamine their relationship.” (“That is so vague!” she says, laughing. “I’m sorry. I don’t want to get in trouble!”)

They did, however, hint that there may be more writing work for her ahead on the show. Which certainly created a fascinating episode in between seasons. Whether some of that work shows up in Season 2 is tough to say, but the pair of episodes we’ve seen in the last month have certainly kept fans of the show eager to see more.

Missy Elliott ‘Mos Def’ Wants To Collaborate With 21 Savage After Hearing His ‘Verzuz’ Vocals

After a pair of delays, Keyshia Cole and Ashanti finally duked it out in their Verzuz battle on Thursday night. The matchup was a fairly light-hearted one that saw both songstresses dive into their catalogs and pull out 20 of their best songs. Just like most of us who watched from home, 21 Savage sang along to the tracks that were played, but did so on Instagram Live as his fans watched along.

From tracks like Keyshia’s “Love” and “I Remember,” the Atlanta rapper held nothing back as he let the vocals fly to the amusement of his livestream viewers. His singing abilities caught the attention of Missy Elliott who showed some love to 21.

Responding to a clip from 21 Savage’s livestream that was posted by HipHopDX, Missy said, “Love @21savage heavy” with a purple heart and two raised hand emojis. Shortly after a fan replied to her and said, “Collab!” Missy seemed to be all for working with the rapper as she said, “Most def.”

The interaction between Missy and 21 is just the latest example of the hip-hop and R&B worlds coming together thanks to Verzuz. During Thursday’s battle, Keyshia Cole invited O.T. Genasis to sing “Love” with her, signaling that tensions between the two had subsided. Back in 2019, O.T. released a remix of “Love” to the distaste of Keyshia, but thankfully the duo was able to put their differences aside for the warm moment on Verzuz.

Jerry Seinfeld Set The Record Straight About A Tense Larry King Interview That Went Viral After The Host’s Death

Legendary TV host and writer Larry King died on Saturday at age 87, sparking a new wave of appreciation for his work and life from many in entertainment and around the world. But as the tributes poured in and his life’s work was examined in full, one clip from his show almost immediately went viral.

Shortly after news of King’s death spread on Saturday, several people posted an old interview between the legendary host and Jerry Seinfeld where things appeared to be a bit… tense.

In the clip, Seinfeld is asked if he was “canceled,” or if the show named after him ended because the network decided that was the case. Quite famously, Seinfeld and those working on the show decided it was time to wrap it up, and it was one of the few shows in television history to lead the Nielson ratings as it went off the air.

As buzz about the interview grew online, Seinfeld posted a farewell to King on Twitter and cleared the air about that interview, making it clear that the “canceled bit” was just him having some fun with King.

“Always loved Larry King and will miss him,” Seinfeld wrote. “The ‘canceled’ bit was just me having fun with his little mistake. Nothing more. Or less.”

It’s nice that Seinfeld cleared up what could be perceived as an awkward interview, and these things tend to take on new meaning when context and perspective is added to the equation. But even after his own name started trending on Twitter on Saturday because of the video, the comedian wanted to make it clear that he was just joking.

Report: The Lions Will Look To Trade Matthew Stafford In A Mutual Parting Of Ways

After 12 season, the Matthew Stafford era in Detroit will come to an end. According to a report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Stafford and the Lions met over the weekend to discuss his future, and during that meeting, both sides agreed that it is best for the franchise and the former No. 1 overall pick to part ways.

“The sides have had open and healthy discussions since the season ended,” Pelissero reports. “But with the Lions starting over again, hiring Dan Campbell as head coach and Brad Holmes as general manager, Stafford told the team he feels it’s the right time to move on and team officials agreed, per sources.”

The news was confirmed by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Lions took Stafford as the No. 1 pick in the 2009 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. The team made the playoffs three times with Stafford under center, and while there hadn’t been gobs of success during his tenure in the Motor City, he always managed to put up big numbers when he was healthy, throwing for more than 45,000 yards and 282 touchdowns in his tenure. Last season, the soon-to-be 33-year-old completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,084 yards with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

As for which teams can use him, Stafford presents an interesting backup plan in the event squads want to make a move for a quarterback this offseason but do not want to fork over everything that the Houston Texans would theoretically want for Deshaun Watson. He’s also someone who can step in and act as a bridge for a few years for a franchise that has an eye on a long-term option under center. On the other side of things, the Lions possess the No. 7 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and while they will not be able to acquire Trevor Lawrence, they could hold out hope that at least one of the players in the next class of signal callers — Ohio State’s Justin Fields, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance, BYU’s Zach Wilson — will be there for the taking, should they opt to go in that direction.

The Flaming Lips Held The First Of Two Live Space Bubble Concerts In Oklahoma City

Live concerts, for the most part, have been put on pause due to the coronavirus pandemic. Outside of drive-in concerts, which some acts like Lil Baby, DaBaby, and Kehlani have held, music lovers have not been able to watch their favorite artists at a live show safely for months now.

Luckily for some fans of The Flaming Lips, they were able to see the band perform at a recent concert in their hometown of Oklahoma City thanks to a slight twist. Both the band and audience members enjoyed the live show from space bubbles that could fit up to three people when inflated.

The band held the first of two concerts on Friday night with the second set to occur on Saturday. An aerial view of the concert was shared through an Instagram post from Iead vocalist Wayne Coyne. Prior to the show, Coyne spoke to UPROXX about the live bubble show, one he announced at the end of last year.

“There have been a lot of details to figure out, and what if this thing ends in a couple of weeks?” he said. “But if it keeps going, we keep going.”

The Oklahoma City show comes after the band tested the live bubble concert idea in their hometown last October. In a brief show held at The Criterion, the band only performed two songs and played them both twice: “Brother Eye” and “Assassins Of Youth” from their American Head album.

You can view some posts from the first concert above.
