For the first time in a while, Drake stayed away from making any sports predictions this championship season which helped lay the Drake Curse theories to rest for at least the next year. However, Nick Jonas from The Jonas Brother unearthed the curse after hopping on Twitter to propose a new conspiracy theory while throwing a bit of shade at Drake, and based on the evidence he provided for his theory, this writer believes you all should at least listen to what Nick has to say.
In his video, Nick stated that despite the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series win on Tuesday night, people failed to mention the “very very obvious theme here.” The theme he goes on to mention the recent success athletes have when they attend a Jonas Brothers concert. He pointed to a September 2019 Kansas City show that Kansas City Cheifs quarterback Patrick Mahomes attended, a December 2019 Arizona show that Los Angeles Dodgers first basemen Cody Bellinger went to, and a February 2020 Paris show that Formula One race car driver Lewis Hamilton attended. Months after their respective shows, Mahomes went on to win the Super Bowl, Bellinger won the World Series with the Dodgers, and Hamilton landed his 92nd Formula One win, the most in Formula One history.
At this point, the evidence speaks for itself and Nick is aware of this as he labeled the conspiracy theory as a “Jonas Blessing.” “Listen up,” Nick said as he concluded the video. “The key to success is to come to a Jonas Brothers show. It’s basically the reverse of a Drake curse, let’s call it the Jonas Blessing.” He also added that the key to success resides in some of the bands’ classic records. “Just remember, it’s not about how hard you practice [or] how naturally gifted you are. It’s about ‘Year 3000,’ ‘When You Look Me In The Eyes,’ ‘SOS,’ of course ‘Sucker.’”
You can come up with your own conclusion to the Jonas Blessing by watching the video above.
Nothing gets your blood pumping like a good action movie, and whether you prefer CGI-filled spectacles, meticulously-crafted fight sequences, or just a bunch of things going “Boom!” Netflix’s film library has got you covered. Here are the 20 best action movies on Netflix streaming right now, so grab some popcorn and enjoy.
Casino Royale marks Daniel Craig’s first James Bond entry, but he plays the suave MI6 agent like he’s been doing it for decades. The film gives fans of the spy franchise a soft reset, as we’re introduced to the new Bond when he sets off on his first mission as 007. Bond’s tasked with catching a private banker funding terrorist operations by beating him in a high-stakes game of poker in Montenegro, and he’s joined by Vesper Lynd (a terrific Eva Green), an MI6 accountant with a secret that threatens to derail the mission and may cost Bond his life.
Set fives years after Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade marks Indiana Jones’ journey to rescue and reunite with his estranged father, a historian who goes missing after searching for the Holy Grail. Harrison Ford returns to play the swashbuckling archeologist while Sean Connery — most famous for his role as James Bond at the time — plays Indy’s absentee father. Most of the fun in this film can be chalked up to the pair’s chemistry. Indy and his dad don’t get along and their bickering, even as they’re avoiding assassins and tracking down ancient relics, is played up for laughs, rightly so.
Edgar Wright’s 2010 action comedy about a hapless boy, who must defeat evil ex-boyfriends in order to win the hand of the girl he loves, is a fast-paced ride that bombards the senses. Michael Cera plays a loveable goof in the titular hero, a young man enamored with a woman named Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). In order to be with his lady love, Scott takes on her exes (six guys, one girl) that challenge him to truly strange contests. The film is a cinematic mash-up of Japanese anime and gamer culture, intended for the crowd who grew up on Nintendo and comic books, but it brings plenty of overall laughs all the same.
Ben Affleck writes, directs, and stars in this gritty heist film set in his hometown of Boston. Affleck plays Doug, a master thief planning his greatest, and last heist who becomes distracted by a romantic relationship with a bank manager he met on his last job (Rebecca Hall). As Doug and his crew orchestrate a heist involving Red Sox stadium, a dogged FBI agent played by Jon Hamm closes in.
Chris Hemsworth gets back in the action with this Russo brothers-produced crime flick about a black market mercenary who accepts a deadly mission that throws him into the chaotic underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers. Hemsworth’s antihero type doesn’t mind doing bad sh*t for good money, but when he sells his skills to an imprisoned international crime lord who tasks him with rescuing his kidnapped son, the job quickly spirals into a life-threatening race against the clock. There’s a reason we dubbed this movie a “smorgasbord of pure ass-kicking” guys. Trust us, the fight sequences are insane.
Chris Evans stars in this sci-fi thriller from auteur Bong Joon-ho. The film, set years into the future following a devastating ice age caused by mankind, follows Evans’ Curtis who lives in poverty on a train that continuously circles the Earth and contains all that remains of human life. Curtis is part of the “scum” that the people relegated to the back of the train while the “elite” enjoy the privilege of wealth and status that comes with living in the front. Curtis sparks a rebellion that ends in bloodshed and a devastating reveal when he makes it to the train’s engine room and discovers just how the elite have been fueling their operation. It’s a dark, grimy action piece that should give fans a new appreciation for Evans’ talent.
The early aughts action-comedy borrows elements from famous Kung Fu films of the ’70s and pairs them with a completely ridiculous plot and some impressive cartoon-style fight sequences to produce a wholly original flick that we guarantee you’ll marvel at. The film follows the exploits of two friends, Sing and Bone, who impersonate gang members in the hopes of joining a gang themselves and inadvertently strike up a gang war that nearly destroys the slums of the city. Of course, the real draw here is the absurdist, over-the-top comedy that takes place during some of the film’s biggest action sequences. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, but only if you check your brain at the door.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone star in this 90s sci-fi flick set in 2084 that follows a construction worker named Quaid (Schwarzenegger) who begins having disturbing, memory-like dreams of an alternate life in which he was a spy sent to retrieve a dangerous weapon from colonized Mars. Stone plays Lori, his “wife” who reveals herself to be an agent as well, sent to monitor Quaid who purposefully wiped his memories of the mission to protect the planet’s people. There’s plenty of space travel, explosion, and twisted mind games in this one, but good luck figuring out if it’s all real or just Quaid’s imagination.
Another Quentin Tarantino classic, this violent visit back in time to America’s era of slavery carries major Western vibes and gives Lenoard DiCaprio a refreshing turn as the film’s big bad, a plantation owner named Calvin Candie. Tarantino favorite Christoph Waltz plays a German bounty hunter who teams up with Jamie Foxx’s Django, a former slave looking to free his wife (Kerry Washington) from Candie’s clutches. There’s a lot of gore and uncomfortable dialogue and over-the-top action, really, everything you’d expect, but DiCaprio, Waltz, and Foxx make it all worth it.
This Eric Bana and Brad Pitt starring epic reinvents an infamous Greek tale. The Battle of Troy began because some spoiled-ass dude (Orlando Bloom in this one) decided to run away with another man’s wife. Helen of Troy was supposedly the most gorgeous woman to ever exist, but let’s be real, men will jump at any excuse to fight in leather skirts with swords. The story’s a bit meh, but watching Pitt slash his way through enemies and take on Bana in an emotionally-charged showdown makes it worth it.
We have this movie to thank for putting Kate Beckinsale, and her skin-tight catsuit, on the map. The story follows Beckinsale’s Selene, a centuries-old death dealer, who’s gotten pretty good at killing off Lycans, which are currently at war with vampires. When a human is brought into the mix, Selene ends up uncovering the truth about the feud between species and starts kicking ass for her own pleasure. No one can wield two glocks while also doing acrobatic somersaults like Beckinsale, y’all.
In a town filled with aspiring martial artists, the best of the best is Ip Man, a father and husband who just wants to keep his quiet way of life even in the midst of the Japanese occupation of China. In discovering that sometimes fighting is the only way to keep the peace, Ip inspires many by taking a stand during war-torn times. As a subtle reflection on war mixed with a healthy dose of fast-paced, mesmerizing combat, Ip Man is actually based on the real life of Yip Man, the grand master who trained Bruce Lee.
The Oscar-winning animated film is making its way to Netflix this summer, which means if you didn’t get a chance to see it in theaters, you no longer have to wonder what all the hype is about. The story follows a young kid named Miles, who becomes the web-slinging hero of his reality, only to cross paths with other iterations of Spider-Man across different dimensions that help him defeat a threat posed to all realities. Mahershala Ali, John Mulaney, and Jake Johnson make up the film’s talented voice cast, but it’s the striking visuals and daring story-telling technique that really serves the film well.
Charlize Theron leads the cast of this inventive take on the traditional comic book movie. She plays an ancient, immortal warrior named Andy who leads a group of mercenaries that have been operating in the shadows for centuries. When the head of a Big Pharma company learns of their existence, he tries to weaponize their ability to cheat death, which causes big problems for the group and its newest member, a former Marine questioning her unique gifts.
Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, and Jamie Bell star in this war drama based on a true story about a trio of brothers who lead a group of Jewish refugees to freedom during World War II. The Bieliski brothers rescue Jews from the Ghetto before they’re sent to concentration camps, fleeing deep into the Belarussian forests as the Nazi’s invade Eastern Europe. Craig’s Tuvia builds a community there, teaching the people how to fight and survive while Shreiber’s Zus joins a group of Russian resistance fighters. Their harrowing journey to freedom doesn’t happen until the end of the film, but it’s worth sticking around to see.
Run Time: 125 min | IMDb: 6.5/10
Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, and Pedro Pascal play a group a former special ops bros who reunite to take down an infamous cartel kingpin and steal his profits in the process. Isaac and Affleck look to be the leaders of the team, two men fed up with risking their necks for a country that doesn’t look after them once they’re back on home soil, and Isaac’s A Most Violent Year director J.C. Chandor is at the helm, which means a couple of plot twists and some high stakes action are in store.
Seth Rogen and James Franco star in this comedy about a process server and his drug dealer, who go on the run from a couple of hitmen. Rogen plays Dale, a 25-year-old slacker who witnesses a murder and is hunted (along with his drug dealer Saul, played by Franco) by a drug lord intent on silencing him before he can go to the police. The two get into all kinds of messes involving Asian mobsters, barn explosions, and nursing homes.
Heath Ledger stars in this punk-historical adventure playing a squire who poses as a knight and rises to fame thanks to his jousting skills. Ledger’s William is a peasant who climbs the ranks of elite society by winning jousting tournaments, bringing his friends Geoffrey (Paul Bettany), Roland (Mark Addy), and Wat (Alan Tudyk) along for the ride and romancing a noblewoman. This ends up getting him in trouble and exposing his secret in the worst way.
19. Hardcore Henry (2015)
Run Time: 96 min | IMDb: 6.7/10
Sure, the plot of Hardcore Henry sounds like a Nicolas Cage-endorsed B-list action flick, but it makes this list because it takes its stale premise and ramps things up a notch by giving the audience a front-row seat to the action. The film is shot entirely from a first-person perspective using some GoPro cameras rigged to the main actor’s body, which means, like Henry, you’re kicking ass and taking names for a majority of the film simply by watching. It’s a weird experience but a revolutionary one.
There’s a plot to Haywire, one that focuses on a black ops super soldier, set up by her organization, who goes on a revenge mission that ends in chaos and bloodshed. But really, the only thing you need to know about this movie is that it’s a showcase for Gina Carano to kick the wimpy a**es of various bad guys played by Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, and Channing Tatum.
Recent Changes Through October 2020:
Added: Pineapple Express, Troy, Hardcore Henry, A Knight’s Tale
Removed: Sin City, Jurassic Park, Inside Man, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Despite so much uncertainty over the past seven months amid a global health crisis, the NBA successfully wrapped up its Bubble experiment in Orlando earlier this month, with the Lakers taking home the 2020 title and tying the Celtics for the most championships in league history.
But with that obstacle now in the rear-view mirror, it’s on to the next major challenge: how and when to start the 2020-2021 season. There are no easy answers to any of this, although the league itself has taken the rather lofty position that it prefers to begin sooner rather than later, with a proposed Dec. 22 start date that would preserve the Christmas Day slate, among other major revenue streams.
Making that date would be a massive undertaking, given everything that would have to fall into place between now and then, including the draft, free agency, training camp, and many other considerations that would be have to be worked out in the collective bargaining agreement between all three parties.
If you ask NBPA director Michele Roberts, the Dec. 22 goal is unlikely, to say the least.
Ahead of next deadline on NBA CBA, NBPA’s Michele Roberts tells @TheAthleticNBA: “The union and the players…will not be rushed. Given all that has to be resolved between now and a Dec. 22 date…it defies common sense that it can all be done in time.”https://t.co/9uuBAznV15
According to a recent report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, there is a new target date that is apparently gaining traction among some of the league’s biggest stars: Martin Luther King Day on January 21. That would push free agency out to Dec. 1 instead of the current Nov. 20 date that would be necessary for the Dec. 22 start.
Either way, the NBA ideally wants to avoid any overlap with the Tokyo Olympics, which have been postponed until next summer, and they would also like to preserve the NBA’s summer vacation in general. Both would essentially mean a shortened season, with a 72-game slate currently being floated around as a potential alternate schedule.
There’s still a lot to be worked out before any of this is finalized — such as how and when to safely allow fans back into arenas, which is one of the league’s primary goals next season — but the clock is ticking, and significant aspects of the NBA’s future hinge on how they decide to move forward.
Hayley Williams has spent all of 2020 as a solo artist, recording apart from her group Paramore. But even after the release of her album Petals For Armor earlier this year, she’s never said she’d leave the band entirely. That changed on Wednesday. In a message on Twitter, she condemned the band’s other members for their “religiously/politically dogmatic beliefs,” and showed her support for the LGBTQ+ community.
there’s a reason there are only 3 people left in @paramore. surprise, haters, it ain’t cause of me.
paramore do not condone religiously/politically dogmatic beliefs which leave our LGBTQ+ friends, fans, & family feeling abandoned and hopeless.
and ya know, if that doesn’t jive with you, well, feel free to go to where all past members of paramore have gone which is literally anywhere else but paramore.
to paramore’s LGBTQ+ family (and @ColormeBrian i am talkin straight to you) you are full of love and you are loved.

According Billboard, fans are theorizing that the tweets were directed at guitarist Josh Farro, who left the band in 2011, including an alleged Facebook comment from the guitarist that finds him comparing homosexuality to pedophilia.

For weeks, members of conservative media have claimed they have dirt on Hunter Biden, proof of corruption that will torpedo the presidential hopes of his father, Joe Biden. It was supposed to be their “October surprise,” their version of 2004’s (thoroughly discredited) “Swift Boat” scandal that helped sink George W. Bush rival John Kerry. But it hasn’t been going well. Despite constant coverage on Fox News and various media sites, hard evidence has failed to materialize, and the general public doesn’t appear to be buying it. On his show Wednesday night, as per The Daily Beast, Tucker Carlson claimed he had proof that would turn the tide. It just, he claimed, got lost in the mail.
This segment is truly one of the dumbest things I have ever watched. Tucker says he had the goods on the Bidens but the documents got lost in the mail and he’s apparently unable to even summarize what these smoking guns said. Seems legit! https://t.co/8oSoVzgwFQ
Carlson had gone all-in on the supposed Hunter Biden scandal. The previous night he interviewed Tony Bobulinski, a former associate who claimed the former Vice President’s son was lying when he denied involvement in businesses in China that made him a security risk. But that wasn’t a smoking gun. But Carlson swore he had such a thing — “a series of confidential documents,” he promised, would finally crush Hunter, and his father, for good. They were being overnighted — not via the still crippled USPS, but through an undisclosed shipping company.
Perhaps he should have used the Louis DeJoy-led United States Postal Service after all. Those documents, Carlson informed his fans on Wednesday night’s show, went missing. “Tuesday morning we received word from the shipping company that our package had been opened and the contents were missing,” he said, gravely. “The documents had disappeared.”
Carlson then hatched an elaborate, though also incredibly vague, plot to steal those documents. Only problem? An extensive investigation turned up no leads, no sign of a conspiracy, no explanation for what could have happened to those documents. The way he put it, it all sounded fishy.
But on social media, people had another theory, which is a better fit for Occam’s Razor, which says that the simplest explanation is often the one that’s correct.
Hey you guys, I had super-duper real incriminating evidence of all kinds of crimes committed by trump, but even though I could’ve made copies or scanned it, I decided to send the ONLY copy of it through Louis DeJoy’s trusted operation.
Oh man looks like Tucker totally had the documents that were going to prove Hunter Biden’s guilt but they got lost in the mail! What a believable turn of events! https://t.co/gioC1aGKmO
Shit. They must have gotten lost with Hillary’s email Server. Those darn mail people. What scoundrels. Now Tucker, do the thing about the 226,723 Americans who have died of Covid or the one about the Stock Market crashing today. And go… https://t.co/BvUdzLg2n6
Quick! Somebody call @USPS Postmaster General Louis DeJoy! “Hello?” “Postmaster DeJoy, damning documents for @TuckerCarlson have disappeared in the mail. Do something!” “Sorry, I ordered all of the sorting machines destroyed. Cannot comply.” https://t.co/skoggGilZW
As any high schooler knows, Aldous Huxley’s dystopian novel Brave New World has a pretty definitive — and pretty grim — ending. Not so Peacock’s lavish TV adaptation. On top of stretching the story out over nine episodes, it concluded not so much with a happy ending as one that left things open for a second season. Ironically, the new streamer’s take has met with its own downer ending: As per Deadline, the second season, which didn’t necessarily need to happen, is now definitely not happening.
Like Huxley’s novel, the Peacock Brave New World is set centuries in the future, in an overly orderly, supposedly utopian London, whose genetically engineered inhabitants are separated at birth into classes, and whose most well-off tend to be so bored they need a drug, called soma, to feel happy. When citizens played by Jessica Brown Findlay and Harry Lloyd happen upon a “savage” from the outside world, played by Alden Ehrenreich, they find their perfect bubble on the verge of popping.
Though Brave New World has never been turned into a major motion picture — a version with Leonardo Di Caprio from Ridley Scott died a decade-plus ago — it’s had a better time with TV. (The last adaptation, a mere TV movie from 1998, featured Leonard Nimoy as nefarious Mustapha Mond.) This latest stab received some warm notices. But it never really entered the pop culture mainframe, despite being one of a major new streamer’s first and costliest gambles. Maybe they can try again and turn George Orwell’s 1984 into a 15-episode miniseries…with the option of catching up with Winston and Julia after they’ve been re-educated.
Harry Styles apparently found himself in an unusual situation recently. The One Direction singer’s car died and, while it was repaired, he found himself killing time at the home of one of his many fans. Alas, that person, one Theadora, was not there and never got to meet him.
harry’s car broke down so a fans dad let him in his house and while they waited harry fed their fish and left notes for the fan and for that reason your honor, he is the only man to ever exist pic.twitter.com/9pEMiGgjkH
The story went viral after it was shared on Twitter, apparently from another fan. “Harry’s car broke down so a fans dad let him in his house and while they waited harry fed their fish and left notes for the fan and for that reason your honor,” the person wrote. “He is the only man to ever exist.”
The tweet was accompanied by pictures of Harry feeding her fish and a letter he left the still very lucky fan. “Theadora,” Harry wrote. “My car broke down on your street and dad’s friend kindly let me wait at your house with a cup. I’m devasted that we missed each other. Looking forward to meeting you soon. Treat people with kindness.” He signed off by letting the reader know that their fish had been fed.
The reported incident occurred after Harry shared a summery video for his Fine Line intro, “Golden.” He also landed his first No. 1 track this year thanks to “Watermelon Sugar” topping the singles chart back in August.
In one of the strangest years ever for sports — and well, everything else — the National Women’s Soccer League saw its television viewership grow 500% year-over-year in 2020, SportsPro reported last week. The NWSL became the first American professional sports league to bring sports back safely during the COVID-19 pandemic with its first-ever Challenge Cup in Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah, which kicked off on June 27 and culminated with a final on July 26. The electric hot Houston Dash ultimately defeated the Chicago Red Stars in the final 2-0 to capture their first trophy in club history.
In the first year of the league’s broadcast deal with CBS, which saw all 23 of the NWSL Challenge Cup games stream on CBS All Access, a record 653,000 viewers tuned in to the final of the Utah bubble tournament. The NWSL also has its games available to international viewers on Twitch and described the additional streaming provided by the streaming platform as “significant.”
Following the success of the Challenge Cup, the NWSL held a Fall Series, which ran from September 5 to October 17. CBS All Access broadcasts of the series averaged 383,000 viewers, and the seven matches aired live on CBS Television Network were the seven most-watched games in NWSL history. Compared to 2019’s numbers, NWSL domestic TV audiences were up nearly 500% in 2020.
The NWSL’s digital growth skyrocketed this year as well, with mentions of the league on social platforms up 152% year-over-year, and traditional news media coverage up 55%.
In a year where many professional sports leagues saw their TV ratings fall — the NBA Finals were down 48% from last year, and two World Series games set back-to-back low viewership records — the NWSL appears to be trending in the opposite direction. It is also worth noting that the WNBA saw its average viewership numbers multiply as well, during its “Wubble” season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, as women’s sports were presented with more opportunities from larger TV networks and, in turn, delivered record viewership numbers.
In recent years, the NWSL has seen its popularity among U.S. fans increase, especially as the success and prominence of the U.S. Women’s National Team continues to permeate mainstream media. Now in its seventh year of play, the NWSL is the longest-lasting professional women’s soccer league in the U.S. Ahead of the 2020 season, the league secured large sponsorship deals with companies like Budweiser, Secret Deodorant and more, according to Front Office Sports. The league also recently announced two new highly-anticipated expansion teams, Racing Louisville FC and Angel City FC, which will take the total team count to 11. Racing Louisville FC will take the field next season while Angel City FC will begin play in 2022.
It’s been quite the year for Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freak led the Bucks to the top seed in the Eastern Conference — and the best overall record in the NBA last season. It may have ended in disappointment, as Milwaukee was eliminated in the second round by the Heat, but with Giannis firmly in his prime, the Bucks are built to contend for the foreseeable future and will certainly do some retooling the offseason to address those issues still holding them back.
Now, fans will be treated to a whole new look at his life and his journey. According to the latest reports, Disney is developing a new biopic about Giannis and his family and their hardscrabble upbringing Greece and how he climbed his way out of poverty to become one of the world’s biggest superstar athletes.
The Walt Disney Studios is in development on Greek Freak, a live action film for Disney+ inspired by the true life story of NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family. Akin Omotoso is attached to direct.
***
Arash Amel will pen the script with Bernie Goldmann producing. Giannis Antetokounmpo is an executive producer. Production on the film will begin in 2021 in Antetokounmpo’s native Greece and other US locations.
Giannis’ brothers Thanasis and Kostas are also professional basketball players in their own right. Kostas was a member of the Lakers championship as a two-way player, while Thanasis joined his younger brother on the Bucks. The three of them were the newest additions to the Yard in Madden 21.
Giannis was clearly excited about the collaboration with Disney, as he helped put out the casting call on Twitter.
Disney is making a movie based on my family’s story and they are searching for actors to play me and my brother, Thanasis, in our younger days. No experience necessary! It helps if you resemble the handsome boys pictured below and have some basketball experience. SPREAD THE WORD!
His transformation from a raw, skinny talent to the league’s most dominant force is a fascinating story, and one that we’ll get to see on the big (at home) screen sometime in the near future.
For the past three summers, Saweetie has been a force to be reckoned with. She made her entrance in 2018 with her breakout record, “Icy Grl,” found success again the following year with “My Type,” and this year struck gold for a third time thanks to “Tap In.” Currently, Saweetie is hard at work on her upcoming debut album, Pretty B*tch Music. The Bay Area native sat down for an interview with Elite, where she talked about the moment her mom knew she made it in the industry.
“My mom always knew I wanted to do music, but she felt like I made it when she was at a Pilates class and they played ‘Icy Grl,’” Saweetie said. She didn’t even assume her daughter was well-known enough to be played by strangers. “She goes up to the instructors, ‘Are you my daughter’s friend?’ And the instructor’s like, ‘Lady, what are you talking about?’”
Saweetie also vented her frustrations over being compared to other women in music. “The women who came before me served as inspiration,” Saweetie said. “But I just don’t like when people compare and contrast to pit women against each other or to put another woman down. I definitely feel like women have to fight, and not just in music, but also in the corporate world or in any other industry.”
