Kanye West Wants To Make A Christian Version Of TikTok Called ‘Jesus Tok’

Kanye West made a very public pivot to Christianity ahead of his anticipated album Jesus Is King last year. Ever since, the rapper has broke ground on his own weekly gospel service, joined televangelist pastor Joel Osteen in a series of live events, quit swearing, and even made his album collaborators abstain from pre-marital sex. Now, West wants to use his influence to create a more Christian-friendly version of the popular social media platform TikTok.

Sharing his thoughts to Twitter, West said he has a new idea for a Christian-approved version of the popular app. Saying the idea came to him as a “vision” after being “disturbed” by some of the content he saw on the platform, West said he wants to replace TikTok with “Jesus Tok.” According to West, the new app will be “Christian monitored” and “safe for young children.” While he didn’t offer up any specifics, the rapper said he prays he can collaborate with TikTok in order to make his vision a reality.

Of course, fans immediately flooded Twitter with their own ideas of what “Jesus Tok” would look like.

West’s plans arrive after President Trump announced he was thinking about banning the platform altogether. “As far as TikTok is concerned we’re banning them from the United States,” Trump told journalists in early August.

LeBron James Gave His Scouting Report Of The Blazers: ‘They’re Not Your Typical 8-Seed’

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers will have quite the road to travel in these playoffs if they are to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy in October, beginning with a first round series against the red-hot Portland Trail Blazers.

With the Lakers relative struggles in the seeding round and Portland’s excellent play, there are some that are eyeing an upset in the first round for a team that, even LeBron notes, is “not your typical 8-seed.” The Blazers offense has been superb in Orlando, led by Damian Lillard with plenty of help from C.J. McCollum and the return of Jusuf Nurkic as a force in the frontcourt. Defensively, it’s been a challenge for Portland, but if the Lakers don’t start making shots they could find themselves in quite the battle.

On Monday, LeBron offered up his scouting report on the Blazers, starting with their “two-headed” monster in the backcourt and noting that the Lakers can’t go into the series looking to outscore an elite offensive team.

“Well they have a two-headed monster in Dame and C.J. It starts and ends with those guys,” LeBron said. “They control the tempo; they control the pace. They do all of the ball-handling and they’re the rock of that franchise because they’ve been there. They’ve been there and seen it all. They have playoff experience. They have chemistry between the two of ’em, and we have to have 10 eyes on them at a time. You got the two eyes guarding the ball and the other eight throughout every possession, because they’re that dangerous. So it starts with them, and then they have a Hall of Famer in Carmelo Anthony who can erupt at any point of a game, so you have to always key in on him and have that respect factor because you know what he’s capable of doing. And I believe Nurkic and Zach coming back from injury has helped them out a lot as well. They move extremely well, offensively they’re one of the best scoring teams in the Bubble — sorry, not one of them they ARE the best scoring team in the seeding games — so you have to get stops and you have to get multiple stops. You can’t try to outscore them because they can score with the best, but they’re not your typical 8-seed. I don’t think they would’ve been the 8-seed if they were healthy all year, and that’s my mindset. I’m not going in as a 1-seed against an 8-seed, this is the Lakers versus Portland, so I’ve already thrown that out of the window. So I won’t be going in with my guard down.”

James is doing the smart thing here in propping up the opponent and ensuring they know — and his team knows — that they have his full respect in this series. It sends the message to the rest of the Lakers that they too need to be fully expecting a battle, so they aren’t in any way surprised by a Blazers team that will blitz them offensively.

Still, for all of Portland’s offensive firepower the question for them lies on the defensive end where they’ve been woeful at times, needing Lillard and McCollum to bail them out with spectacular offensive performances. Against a Lakers team with scorers the caliber of James and Anthony Davis, that poses a serious potential problem, and whichever team can find their defensive stride first likely takes an advantage — and one would expect that to come from a Laker team that prior to the hiatus was tracking as one of the league’s best defenses.

Meek Mill Shows Support For Kim Kardashian’s Push To Free C-Murder From Life In Prison

Since being released from prison, Meek Mill has been a vocal advocate for prison reform. Along with Meek, another celebrity who has supported justice reform is Kim Kardashian, who recently sought a law degree. After beginning her studies, Kim has become an outspoken advocate for many she believes are unjustly imprisoned, and her latest campaign for freedom centers around C-Murder. After publicizing her push to free C-Murder, Meek hopped on social media to offer his support.

C-Murder, born Corey Miller, was convicted of murder in 2002 and sentenced to life in prison. But according to Kim, new evidence suggests the rapper was wrongfully convicted. Since his sentencing, laws have changed and a unanimous jury decision is now necessary in order for a defendant to be sentenced to life in prison. Furthermore, Kim reports new evidence has come to light since the rapper’s conviction which suggests some jurors may have been pressured to find Miller guilty.

Along with publicizing information about Miller’s case, Kim started the hashtag #FreeCoreyMiller and Meek quickly co-signed. Showing support for Kim’s movement, Meek shared a photo of Miller alongside his family. “#freecorymiller off the rip,” the rapper wrote.

Millie Bobby Brown Is ‘Sharp As A Tack’ As Sherlock’s Sister In Netflix’s ‘Enola Holmes’ Teaser

Earlier today, Netflix tweeted the following: “alone loshme reeebtpms wnettyrhitd.” No, you didn’t just have a stroke. If you re-arrange that string of nonsense, it reads, “Enola Holmes September TwentyThird,” as in: Enola Holmes, a new film starring Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock Holmes’ sister Enola, premieres on Netflix on September 23.

Based on Nancy Springer’s book series The Enola Holmes Mysteries (which is involved in a copyright infringement lawsuit from the estate of Sherlock Holmes creator Arthur Conan Doyle), Enola Holmes follows Sherlock and Mycroft’s “sharp as a tack” sister who is as gifted at being a “super sleuth” as her famous brothers. Here’s more from Netflix:

On the morning of her 16th birthday, Enola Holmes wakes to find that her mother has disappeared, leaving behind an odd assortment of gifts but no apparent clue as to where she’s gone or why. After a free-spirited childhood, Enola suddenly finds herself under the care of her brothers Sherlock and Mycroft, both set on sending her away to a finishing school for ‘proper’ young ladies. Refusing to follow their wishes, Enola escapes to search for her mother in London. But when her journey finds her entangled in a mystery surrounding a young runaway Lord, Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history.

What’s On Tonight: The Democratic National Convention Kicks Off

If nothing below suits your sensibilities, check out our guide to What You Should Watch On Streaming Right Now.

The Democratic National Convention 2020 (ABC, CBS, NBC, 10:00 p.m.) — The 2020 Democratic National Convention kicks off tonight and because the pandemic continues to rage on, most of the speeches endorsing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be given virtually. You can still tune in live (or stream if that’s your thing) and you’ll probably want to because some big names are speaking this year. Michelle Obama and Senator Bernie Sanders headline tonight’s rally with a handful of influential politicians following the rest of the week.

I May Destroy You (HBO, 9:00 p.m.) — Arabella’s obsession with an up-and-coming author leads to progress in her own writing, despite a difficult setback on her road to recovery. Kwame’s relationship progresses and forces him to make amends with an ex-boyfriend. And Terry gets lucky, in her personal and professional life, while helping Arabella stake out the bar where her assault took place.

Lovecraft Country (HBO Max) — This new sci-fi epic landed on HBO over the weekend and it’s poised to be the network’s next big thing. There are other reasons to watch, obviously, and they’ve got a lot to do with Jurnee Smollet, the H.P. Lovecraft themes, and a kick-ass storyline that blends sci-fi-inspired horror tropes with the harsh realities of racism, slavery, and segregation.

Jamal Murray And The Nuggets Overcame 57 Points From Donovan Mitchell To Win Game 1 In Overtime

The first game of the 2020 NBA Playoffs saw the West’s 3-seed Denver take on the 6-seed Utah in a battle of shorthanded squads with dreams of a deep playoff run.

Denver took control early in the game, with some hot shooting from Michael Porter Jr., overall dominance from Nikola Jokic on the offensive end, both scoring and facilitating, and after a quiet first quarter, Jamal Murray erupted with a 12-point run all on his own in the second to push the Nuggets in front by seven at the break.

In the third quarter, it was Utah that had the answers, stiffening up on defense as Rudy Gobert reminded everyone why he was a two-time DPOY, and the offense came alive after some stagnant stretches in the first half.

The Jazz came in without two starters in Bojan Bogdanovic, who had surgery that ended his season during the hiatus, and Mike Conley Jr., who is in Ohio following the birth of his son, Elijah, on Sunday night. As such, the chief question facing this Jazz team was how would they create offense beyond Donovan Mitchell — and how much of a load could Mitchell carry on his shoulders. The answer to the latter question proved to be a lot, as Mitchell had 57 points on 19-of-32 shooting and six assists to lead a Utah offense that will turn to him for so much.

Joe Ingles also stepped up in a major way with 19 points and six assists, taking on the role of secondary creator for an offense that is in desperate need of one.

In the final quarter, it was Mitchell and Murray who dueled, with the Jazz guard torturing Nuggets defenders for 21 in the final quarter and Murray (and Jokic) coming alive in the final minutes to drag the Nuggets back into the game despite Mitchell’s best efforts.

After Murray and Mitchell traded buckets to leave the game tied at 113-113, it was Jokic that picked up a key offensive rebound and earned a pair of free throws, hitting both to put Denver ahead by two with just under 30 seconds to play. Mitchell answered that with a foul drawn of his own on a drive with 22.1 seconds to play, fouling out Torrey Craig and tying the game by making his 11th and 12th free throws of the afternoon (he did not miss a free throw in the game) to get to 51 points and set a Jazz record for points in a postseason game.

Jokic had a decent look at a game-winner at the buzzer, but pump-faked a free throw line shot to drive on Gobert who recovered to force a miss on a tough banking hook shot, sending it to overtime knotted at 115-115.

In overtime, the two teams struggled to find an offensive rhythm early, but the Nuggets were able to jump out to a 123-115 lead behind some quality defense forcing turnovers, a big three-pointer from Monte Morris in the corner to give them some cushion, and then a Murray leaning three that was all but the dagger to put them up eight. After a Jordan Clarkson runner gave Utah brief life, Jokic followed that up with a three to go up nine and all but turn the lights out on the Jazz.

Mitchell and Clarkson would try to claw back in it, but another Murray three put the icing on the cake as Denver eventually pulled away to a 135-125 win that must be demoralizing for the Jazz and Mitchell.

It was a spectacular opening game to the NBA Playoffs, and one the Jazz will feel like got away from them given their star’s spectacular 57-point performance. Murray, who had missed much of the seeding round with a hamstring issue, looked sensational with 36 points on 13-of-20 shooting, many of which came in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter and overtime. Jokic had 29 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists as he was his usual stellar self, and Jerami Grant gave them a big lift off the bench with 19 points after Michael Porter Jr. went quiet and was eventually sat in the closing stretch in favor of a better defender.

Utah now must bounce back and ask for another Herculean performance from Mitchell in Game 2, who will need more from his teammates to get the job done against this Denver team. Jordan Clarkson provided a nice boost with 18 points off the bench, but aside from him, the other three that came off the Utah bench only chipped in eight points while Royce O’Neale was almost non-existent on offense with three points in 32 minutes.

Father John Misty Releases His First New Songs In Over Two Years, ‘To S.’ And ‘To R.’

Father John Misty has kept a relatively low profile since releasing his 2018 album God’s Favorite Customer. He made a bit of noise last month, though, when he released Anthem +3, an EP of covers of Leonard Cohen, Link Wray, and Cat Stevens. As far as original songs, though, fans haven’t gotten any from Father John Misty in two years. That changes today, though, as he released a pair of new tracks — “To. S” and “To R.” — as part of the Sub Pop Singles Club. Both tracks are piano-led numbers, although “To R.” is more upbeat than the ballad “To S.”

2020 has been more active for Father John Misty than last year. Aside from the EP (which was a benefit release, by the way), he also released Off-Key In Hamburg, a live album that also benefits charity. Misty didn’t do nothing last year, though: He co-wrote a song for Khalid’s album Free Spirit, he toured with Jason Isbell last summer, and took some time during a concert to perform a song he wrote for A Star Is Born but that ultimately went unused for the film.

The gap between Misty’s two most recent albums, Pure Comedy and God’s Favorite Customer, was a bit over a year, and Pure Comedy came a little more than two years after I Love You, Honeybear. So, it would stand to reason that seeing an album from Misty at some point in the not-so-distant future is totally possible, especially given his recent uptick in activity.

Listen to “To S.” and “To R.” above.

Laurence Fishburne Revealed Why He (Allegedly) Won’t Be In ‘The Matrix 4′

The Matrix 4 has joined the very small, yet slowly grossing list of Hollywood blockbusters that have resumed production following the worldwide quarantines that blasted a hole in the entertainment industry, but there’s been one notable omission from the set of the film: Laurence Fishburne. The Morpheus actor’s name has been oddly missing from reports about the original cast returning, and he’s now revealed why that is. He was never asked to return.

“I have not been invited,” Fishburne informed New York Magazine (via The Wrap). “Maybe that will make me write another play. I wish them well. I hope it’s great.”

Could Fishburne be making a surprise appearance, and this is all smoke and mirrors to keep Matrix fans guessing? That’s always a possibility. Especially considering Fishburne thinks of Morpheus as an Obi-Wan-type character for the digital age.

But despite Fishburne’s absence and a global pandemic still hanging in the air, Keanu Reeves appeared upbeat while sitting down for a video chat from Berlin where he updated fans on the fourth Matrix installment that has been filming since late July. While promoting the soon-to-be-released Bill and Ted Face the Music in an interview with the Associated Press, Reeves praised the safety protocols on the set and shared how impressed he is that the new regulations haven’t impacted the “rhythm of filmmaking.” Via Comic Book:

“You know, I think everyone loves the project. If you’re ever going to get into any kind of situation that needs to be figured out or ‘How do we do this?’ Show business people are the best,” the star added. “We’re scrappy, we know how to get stuff done. We’re inventive, we think on our feet. That kind of kindred spirit coming together. It goes back to ‘Let’s put on a show! We’ve got some props, we’ve got some things, we’re going to run it!’ That spirit is definitely alive and well on The Matrix.”

The Biggest X-Factors For The Celtics-Sixers First Round Series

For the second time in three seasons, the Boston Celtics’ and Philadelphia 76ers’ respective postseason paths will intersect with one another. The last time the two teams met up in the playoffs, a Kyrie Irving-less Boston put the clamps on a promising young Philly bunch to win in five games during the 2018 conference semifinals.

A whole lot has happened in that time — including an integral part of that Celtics team moving to the City of Brotherly Love — but the expectations are as high as ever. The two teams are awfully familiar with one another, and even if Boston has been something of a surprise while Philly has disappointed during the 2019-20 campaign, both have their sights set on this being merely one hurdle en route to a conference finals cameo.

These two teams are as familiar with one another as any squads in the league, and as such, x-factors might not be as impactful here as they will be in another series. Still, there are areas that could very well tilt this one way or another for the two teams if all goes right.

Boston Celtics: Their two young stars keeping it up

The Sixers, for all of their issues, are the only team to beat Boston three times this season. In those losses, both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have struggled. Brown, in those games, has scored 7.3 points on 29.6 percent shooting from the field, while Tatum’s at 17 points on 32.1 percent shooting. The Celtics have been outscored by 12 points in the 31.9 minutes the former played in those games and 5.7 points in the 35.6 minutes the latter played.

Now, there is a lot of extra context that should be added here. Ben Simmons, of course, is out, and he’s been Philly’s main defender against Tatum. Both played quite well in the fourth matchup between the two squads, a Celtics win. And both have been very, very good in the Bubble, with Boston going 5-2 in the games they’ve played and the duo combining to average 42 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while connecting on 41.5 percent of their threes.

The lineup the Sixers will likely rely on the most without Simmons — Shake Milton, Richardson, Tobias Harris, Horford, and Embiid — doesn’t really have someone who is a no-brainer option to check Tatum and has generally struggled defensively, as it’s in the ninth percentile of points per 100 possessions allowed, per Cleaning the Glass. Philly can play the Matisse Thybulle card, which it certainly will in spots, but that’s a huge ask for a rookie over a seven-game series.

The Sixers will throw everything they have at these two. There’s a chance it does not matter if they keep up the play we’ve seen during the Bubble, even if Philly has given them fits at times this year.

Philadelphia 76ers: Can they survive the Joel Embiid-less minutes?

When the Sixers poached Al Horford from the Celtics this past offseason (which, of course, means 13.5 months ago), part of the logic was that they needed someone to stem the tide when Embiid wasn’t on the floor. That’s been up-and-down during the regular season — unsurprisingly, they’re better when he plays — but this will be especially gigantic during the playoffs. Think of last year’s Game 7 against the Toronto Raptors, when Philadelphia outscored Toronto by 10 points in the 45:12 that Embiid played but lost because they were outscored by 12 in the 2:48 he sat.

Embiid has to be the best player on the floor against Boston if the Sixers are going to stand a chance, something that is magnified by Simmons’ absence. He has it in him to do that, although he’s been all over the place against the Celtics this year. Embiid was magnificent in the team’s win in Beantown, ok during their win in Philly, and absolutely putrid in their loss in their most recent matchup.

Having said this, Embiid needs breaks, as would any human of his size who plays basketball. This means that there will be a whole lot of minutes where the Sixers roll out lineups without either of their two All-Stars, which have been up-and-down all season. Brett Brown will have to do a ton of tinkering to figure out exactly which one works best on a given evening, but it is reasonable to expect that the team will need its big-money offseason signings to come up huge while Embiid catches his breath.

Philadelphia is in a weird spot where they’ve played 73 games this season but no one can totally articulate exactly what they are as a basketball team, ostensibly because somewhere in the NBA’s bylaws, it is explicitly stated that the Sixers need to be the most bizarre team in basketball on an annual basis. But we can say with some reasonable amount of certainty that two things are true: 1. Embiid is going to be at the center of everything they do and, 2. They have a chance to beat the Celtics if they can stay afloat when that’s not the case.
