24KGoldn Details His Rise To ‘The Top’ With A Melodic ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance

24KGoldn, the San Francisco-born hitmaker halfway responsible for the No. 1 single “Mood” (along with Iann Dior), dropped by Uproxx Studios recently to detail his rise to “The Top” with an upbeat, melodic performance for UPROXX Sessions. Bedecked in tie-dye and oozing youthful charm, the easygoing 20-year-old lays out a lighthearted performance of the opener from his March debut album El Dorado.

In 2020, 24KGoldn was selected to be one of XXL’s Freshman Class after fan voting helped him land the coveted 10th spot. That same month, “Mood” first charted before rising to the No. 1 position on the Hot 100, where it remained for eight non-consecutive weeks. 24KGoldn followed up in 2021 with the Columbia Records debut El Dorado, which peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard 200 and has to date racked up a gold certification from the RIAA (500,000 equivalent sales). He’s due to go on his tour for the album beginning in November.

Watch 24KGoldn’s melodic UPROXX Sessions performance of “The Top” above.

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. James Bond Producers Were Told To Cut A Line About 007’s Gay Past By The Studio, But ‘We Resisted’

James Bond is a notorious ladies man, but in Skyfall, he makes a sexually-charged hint about his history with men. After being tied up and having his shirt unbuttoned, Javier Bardem’s villainous Raoul Silva tells 007, “We can either eat each other… or eat everyone else.” He continues to stroke Bond’s neck and legs, calling it a “first time for everything.” This causes Bond to smile. “What makes you think this is my first time?” he says. It’s the most homoerotic scene in an action movie since Top Gun — and one of the best scenes in any of Daniel Craig’s Bond movies. But it was almost cut from the film.

“I remember we were told to cut that line by the studio and we said, ‘No, no, no.’ We resisted,” producer Barbara Broccoli said in the Apple TV+ documentary, Being James Bond. “The night of the premiere, that line, just the whole place rocked it then… I remember looking at the studio executive [and] going, ‘See, told you.’” Skyfall director Sam Mendes added, “I think there’s a huge homoerotic undertow in a lot of Bond movies.” The movies where the hunk frequently gets tied up with rope? You don’t say.

Pierce Brosnan, the Bond before Craig, has said that he would welcome a gay 007 and it would make for an “interesting viewing,” but he doesn’t “how it would work. I don’t think Barbara would allow a gay Bond to happen in her lifetime.” At least we’ll always have Skyfall (and Paul F. Tompkins’ cover of the iconic theme song).

What To Watch: Our Picks For The Ten Movies We Think You Should Stream This Weekend

Each week our staff of film and TV experts surveys the entertainment landscape to select the ten best new/newish movies available for you to stream at home. We put a lot of thought into our selections, and our debates on what to include and what not to include can sometimes get a little heated and feelings may get hurt, but so be it, this is an important service for you, our readers. With that said, here are our selections for this week.

10. (tie) Reminiscence (HBO Max)

HBO MAX

The last time Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson starred in a movie together, it was The Greatest Showman and it made $435 million at the box office. Reminiscence is being released on HBO Max the same day it comes out in theaters, so it won’t equal The Greatest Showman’s total gross. But the twisty thriller about nostalgia and lost love from Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy might make you say this is… what I’m watching tonight. Watch it on HBO Max.

10. (tie) Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal, and Greed (Netflix)

Netflix

Bob Ross is beloved worldwide for his landscapes and peaceful vibes, but this new Netflix documentary reveals that things weren’t all sunsets and smiles when it came to his fortune and estate. Money will do that, even when the money comes from someone as sweet as Bob Freakin’ Ross, apparently. Watch it on Netflix.

9. Jungle Cruise (Disney+)

Via Disney

Though the plot gets a bit convoluted in the second half of the movie, the dazzling, movie star-esque performances here by The Rock, Emily Blunt, and Jesse Plemons make this an entertaining movie well worth watching. Set in 1916, this movie about a race to be the first to get to a tree with magical healing powers has a distinct Indiana Jones/Raiders of the Lost Ark vibe to it. In fact, a couple of the scenes play like homages to those earlier films. And Jesse Plemons appears to be having the time of his life portraying the villain in this film, and who on God’s green Earth doesn’t love Jesse Plemons?! Watch it on Disney+.

8. Annette (Amazon)

UGC

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: A stand-up comedian (Adam Driver) and a world-famous opera singer (Marion Cotillard) have a child that turns out to be a wooden marionette doll, and the doll begins taunting them with its own singing voice after their marital problems lead to chaos. It sounds… weird. It sounds weird. There’s no way around that. But it does have an interesting cast and is getting solid reviews so maybe give it a run if you’re in the mood to have your mind bent a little. Watch it on Amazon.

7. The Green Knight (VOD)

A24

Some of us have been waiting an entire year to see a glowed-up Dev Patel play a troubled, handsomely rugged knight in this trippy take on an Arthurian legend, but now that The Green Knight is finally streaming everywhere … well, we all win. Patel plays Gawain, the film’s should-be hero who must fulfill an oath and face off against a myth-like creature who demands his head. Talking foxes, blood magic, and literal giants all pop up, inhabiting a mystical, terrifying, otherworldly landscape from the twisted, creative genius of director David Lowery. Find it on your VOD outlet of choice.

6. Vacation Friends (Hulu)

HULU

Well look at that, it’s a vacation romp featuring mismatched couples, one a party animal pair played by John Cena and Meredith Hagner, the other a more straightlaced duo played by Lil Rel Howery and Yvonne Orji. They’re all in Mexico. One assumes hijinks will ensue. Watch it on Hulu.

5. Worth (Netflix)

Netflix

It’s a hell of trick, the way Michael Keaton went from being just a little more alive and electric than everyone else on the screen to how he now fades into roles where he’s at the center of slow-burn David and Goliath stories that mythologize the dogged pursuit of justice. It’s like he pointed his jets inward to melt away any sense of movie star sparkle to become the son of Pittsburgh everyman that he was born to be. One expects we’ll see that in the upcoming Dopesick, we certainly saw it in Spotlight, and from the producers of that film comes this story about the effort to compensate the families of 9/11 victims and the fight to not have that effort lose the thread of empathy and respect when confronted by such titanic loss. Watch it on Netflix.

4. Cinderella (Amazon Prime)

AMAZON

It is time, apparently, once again, time for a new take on Cinderella, the classic story of a girl and her evil family and how magic and some rodents make her a star. This time around, we have Camilia Cabello in the lead role and Billy Porter as her fairy godparent and Idina Menzel as the evil stepmother and, look at that, Pierce Brosnan as the king. The whole thing basically puts a series of small twists on a story you’ve seen a few dozen times, but sometimes that’s okay. The cast is strong enough to make it all worth a shot. Watch it on Amazon.

3. The Voyeurs (Amazon Prime)

Amazon Prime

What we have here is an old-school erotic thriller — think Basic Instinct or Fatal Attraction — with White Lotus star Sydney Sweeney as one half of a curious couple who spends a not-insignificant amount of time spying on their exhibitionist-type neighbors. Things get weird and twisted and steamy, as they do in these kinds of movies, which were super popular in the 1980s and 1990s and have since just about disappeared. Might be worth it to give it a try, but think about closing your own blinds first. Watch it on Amazon Prime.

2. Malignant (HBO Max)

HBO

James Wan, he of the Saw and Insidious and Conjuring movies, is back with a new horror film. This one focuses on a woman who has terrifying visions of brutal murders, which are ruining her life a little (as terrifying visions of brutal murders will do) and are also –surprise — actually happening in the real world (which is bad). None of it sounds like a good time for her. For you, though? Maybe. Watch it on Netflix.

1. Kate (Netflix)

Netflix

Granted, this movie sounds a whole lot like Crank (those infamous Jason Statham flicks), but it’s got Mary Elizabeth Winstead kicking enormous ass, so are we really complaining about derivative stories here? Nope. Here, Winstead stars as the title character, who’s taking revenge upon a criminal organization after being poisoned and only having 24 hours to live. Woody Harrelson’s also on board here (he makes everything better), and let’s hope that Kate gains some vengeance before the clock expires. Watch it on Netflix.

10. (tie) Scenes From A Marriage (HBO Max)

HBO

Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain made us promises when they sauntered down the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival, smoldering at each other with so much sexual tension we were forced to watch it in slo-mo to truly appreciate the chemistry lesson on display. They promised heat. They promised titillation. They promised a love story for the ages. And they deliver on most of those promises with this remake of Swedish auteur Ingmar Bergman’s classic miniseries about a married couple wading through the painfully slow disintegration of their relationship. There’s more angst than fans of that red-carpet moment might like, and frustratingly few moments where these two incredibly hot people can just bask in their own sex appeal with each other, but the acting is so charged, you’ll forgive the insane premise: that anyone would dump Pedro Pascal’s boyfriend. Watch it on HBO Max.

10. (tie) The Chair (Netflix)

Netflix

Created by Amanda Peet and produced by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, The Chair tells the story of a new professor dealing with a failing English department at a fancy private university. It’s always nice to see Sandra Oh get a meaty lead role like this, and if her work on shows like Killing Eve is any indication, she’ll carry it well. Watch it on Netflix.

9. The Other Two (HBO Max)

HBO

The Other Two returns after a long, long wait following a one-year shutdown on production for… you know why. The result of that time away? Brooke and Cary are still assholes (but assholes who are advancing in their lives and dealing with the chaos of that), Chase is giving the Stranger Things kids a run for their money in the “let’s pretend these growth spurts didn’t happen” department, Streeter has gone blonde, and Molly Shannon has been UNLEASHED as Pat Dubek becomes a star in her own right. The results are somehow equally scathing and heartfelt, allowing the show to climb another wrung in the “you really need to watch this” hierarchy. Watch it on HBO Max.

8. American Horror Story: Double Feature (FX/Hulu)

FX

Ryan Murphy’s now-classic, still pulpy, always fun scare parade is back for a 10th season, with two separate stories told by a crew of familiar faces. Yes, Sarah Paulson is in there, as are Finn Wittrock and Lily Rabe, as per usual, but you knew that. The bigger story is that Macauley Culkin drops by this season as a character named Mickey. It was always coming to this, really, looping Culkin into the AHS universe. The biggest surprise is that it took this long. Watch it on Hulu.

7. A.P. Bio (Peacock)

YouTube

Glenn Howerton’s misbehaving tin man found a heart and a few reasons to turn the volume down on his hatred of Toledo and Whitlock High School, but there’s little chance A.P. Bio is going to turn into the feel-good hit of the late summer when it returns to Peacock for its 4th season (and 2nd on the streamer). Instead, look for the show’s standout teen cast to continue stealing scenes and for Howerton’s Jack to continue using annoyance as a fuel source, albeit with some different rules of the road now that he has more evident stakes. Beyond all that though, we’re stoaked to see more Paula Pell flexes. With A.P. Bio and Girls5Eva, the longtime SNL writer is proving to be Peacock’s secret comedy weapon and we are here for it. Digitally insert her into reruns of The Office, inject some levity into Dr. Death, SAVED BY THE BELL CROSSOVER! The world is crying out for more Paula Pell. Watch it on Peacock.

6. Money Heist (Netflix)

Netflix

Netflix really has the market cornered on wildly popular European heist shows between Lupin and this series, which follows a criminal mastermind named “The Professor” and a group of associates with a collection of very specific skills as they attempt to rob various banks and literal money-printing operation in Spain. It’s a juicy binge-watch with drama and slick thieves and misdirection, all you need in a fun heist series. And hey, if you get into the action deep enough and pay close attention to the English subtitles while the characters are talking, you might end up learning Spanish by accident. That would be cool. Watch it on Netflix.

5. Lucifer (Netflix)

Netflix

The Devil is back for one last dance-of-a-rodeo in Season 6, and naturally, Lucifer Morningstar is still a total pain in the tush, and you’ll love him for it. Fortunately, he’s no longer attempting to be a detective. Lucifer is now God (don’t ask), and if he doesn’t get with the new program, he’s liable to trigger the apocalypse of all apocalypses. This is one last, fan-requested hurrah for a Netflix-resurrected series, and Neil Gaiman’s creation will live on in fans’ hearts and, most likely, their pants as well. Watch it on Netflix.

4. Reservation Dogs (Hulu)

FX

Taika Waititi’s follow-up to What We Do in the Shadows brings us a comedy series that’s co-written by Native American filmmaker Sterlin Harjo. Yes, the lead quartet in this show rocks suits that look strikingly similar to the characters of Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, yet they’re four Indigenous teens who want to commit crime and simply can’t pull it off. The show was shot in and near Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and these teens hope to make it all the way to California. The cast and crew come from indigenous communities, from where Harjo and Waititi are aiming their storytelling styles as well. Watch it on Hulu.

3. Only Murders In The Building (Hulu)

HULU

Selena Gomez stars alongside the legendary Steve Martin and Martin Short, and the three portray NYC neighbors who aim to unravel an apparent murder inside their apartment building. Yes, they’re all podcasting because everyone does it (duh), and before long, the killer might be after them, too. Martin hasn’t written a feature film since the Pink Panther movies and Shopgirl, and we don’t wanna come out and call this trio a “much cooler Three Amigos” update, but Martin wrote that, too, so why not? Watch it on Hulu

2. Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)

APPLE TV+

There are moments in the early stages of season two that feel like they’re doubling down on the show’s signature positivity and niceness, but there’s no such thing as sweetness overload here as the show grows our affection for characters that are clearly taking a step forward in their arcs. Especially Ted, even though it seems like there may be some challenges ahead. Watch it on Apple TV+.

1. What We Do In The Shadows (FX/Hulu)

FX

Well, well, well. Guillermo turned out to be a vampire killer, which sure as heck came as a surprise to Nandor, Nadja, and Laszlo, and Colin. The four Staten Island roommates must figure out how to handle this conundrum, along with tackling the other challenges of this season. Those include dealing with wellness cults and gym culture, along with gargoyles, werewolves who play kickball, casinos, and more. In other words, this is still one of the funniest shows on TV. Watch it on FX and Hulu.

Meghan McCain Has Announced Her New Job While Throwing Shade At ‘The View’

After spending the better part of 2021 dominating The View with shouting matches and bizarre space-princess hairstyles, Meghan McCain left the daytime talk show at the end of its 24th season, capping off a four-year run. Since then, McCain has been a constant presence on Twitter, despite promising to delete her account on her last day at The View, and now, it seems her penchant for rants has landed her a new gig as a columnist for The Daily Mail.

The UK publication announced McCain’s hiring on Thursday with an official statement:

‘It’s a privilege to join the DailyMail.com team as a columnist. I’ve been an avid reader of the website for many years and have been impressed by its global influence and reach. It truly is a juggernaut.

‘I’ve always respected the way DailyMail.com tackles issues across the entire political spectrum and I’m looking forward to sharing my own opinions without fear or favor on the important issues that matter to our readers across the globe,’ Meghan said on Thursday.

McCain also shared the news on Twitter where she slipped in some more shade at her old employer, but this time, by more pointedly alluding to censorship.

“Everything in my life these days is about going back to basics,” McCain tweeted. “I started as a columnist & am thrilled at the chance to return to it @DailyMail – I am so excited to work in a completely uncensored free space.”

McCain’s new job arrives just three days into The View’s 25th season, which has repeatedly trended on social media thanks to viewers praising the show’s calmer, more chill vibes now that the conservative co-host is gone. Although, we’d be lying if we said we won’t miss Whoopi Goldberg’s facial reactions to McCain’s rants. Just pure gold, every time.

Ted Cruz Is Now Feuding With Patton Oswalt Over COVID Cancellations, And It’s Getting Ugly For The Cancun Superfan

Ted Cruz never misses an opportunity to take a cheap shot, even though the tactic generally backfires on him. That was the case when Cruz, a self-declared The Princess Bride superfan, came for Westley actor Cary Elwes, who mopped the floor with the Texas Republican. And Ted, who spends way too much time on social media, decided to come for comedian Patton Oswalt, who announced that he pulled multiple tour dates (in Florida and Utah) from venues that refused to require proof of vaccination and a negatory COVID test for audience members.

While retweeting an article from The Blaze (a conservative outlet), Ted decided to get snippy with a boilerplate comeback: “Both of his fans were disappointed.”

This presented a huge onslaught of reactions from Patton fans (it must be noted that he bests Cruz with 4.7 million Twitter followers as opposed to 4.5 million), but first, here are Patton’s (weary) replies, which included shot at Ted’s Cancun fiasco and “Ted, you Tweeted this at 1am. Put the phone down and return to liquid form for a few hours.” The A.P. Bio star also couldn’t resist firing a shot at Ted’s notorious (apparent) porn “like” and the January 6 hearings.

However, the real smackdown came from Patton fans that piled onto Ted’s tweet to ask why he’s making light of a pandemic. People also noted the difference in followers between Ted and Patton, and they wondered why Ted isn’t focusing his energy on, you know, the job that he was elected to do.

Fair enough. Also, this:

Sabrina Carpenter Rewrites Her Past In The Nostalgic ‘Skinny Dipping’ Video

Actor and pop singer Sabrina Carpenter has making various TV and film appearances in recent years, but her name became ubiquitous in early 2021 when it was suspected she and Disney+ star Joshua Bassett were the subjects of Olivia Rodrigo’s heartbreak track “Drivers License.” The singer then dropped her song “Skin,” which seemingly sloughed off her critics. But after distancing herself from the rumored love triangle drama, Carpenter reintroduces herself with the sparkling tune “Skinny Dipping.”

Carpenter’s new track arrives alongside an Amber Park-directed video. Touched with nostalgia and inspired by the color palettes of the ’70s, Carpenter’s “Skinny Dipping” visual follows the song’s theme of rewriting her past in response to reigniting an old flame. Over a wistful acoustic guitar, Carpenter leans on her honeyed voice to narrate her wish to start fresh.

Speaking about her inspiration behind the new track, Carpenter said: “One day we’ll be older and see our past experiences with such fresh eyes that maybe the bad things won’t feel so bad, and trust that life will lead us exactly where we’re meant to be.”

“Skinny Dipping” arrives after both Rodrigo and Carpenter put their rumored differences aside. In a recent interview, Rodrigo noted her frustration that her song sparked speculation about a love triangle. “I put it out not knowing that it would get that reaction, so it was really strange [when] it did. I just remember [everyone being] so weird and speculative about stuff they had no idea about,” she said. Rodrigo added, “I don’t really subscribe to hating other women because of boys. I think that’s so stupid, and I really resent that narrative that was being tossed around.”

Lucy Dacus Highlights Her Fans In A Fun And Lighthearted ‘Brando’ Video

Some time ago, Lucy Dacus asked her fans to submit videos of themselves dancing, skating, or otherwise enjoying her Home Video highlight “Brando.” Ultimately, over 100 people submitted clips, which have been compiled into the song’s new video that was shared today. The montage is a light and fun clip that paints Dacus’ fans as a delightful bunch.

“Big thank you to everyone who submitted,” Dacus says in a message to her devotees. “These videos brought me a lot of joy and made me feel more connected to the song and all of you.”

Dacus previously noted of the song, “‘Brando’ refers to a very dramatic friend I had in high school whose whole personality was the media he consumed. He showed me a lot of amazing movies and music, but I think he was more interested in using me as a scrapbook of his own tastes than actually getting to know me. He claimed to know me better than anyone else but I started to feel like all he wanted from me was to be a scene partner in the movie of his life.”

Lil Nas X And Elton John Trade Iconic Looks In A New UberEats Campaign

Lil Nas X and Elton John have become quite the pair. The two performers are separated by decades of age and experience, but linked by their status as queer icons. That connection became more apparent when Lil Nas X revealed that the “Rocketman” singer will feature on his upcoming debut album but their collaborations apparently didn’t stop there. Both are featured together in a new campaign for Uber Eats, “Tonight I’ll Be Eating,” appearing in ads showing off their shared sense of flamboyant style.

In a press release, Nas said of the near-50-year industry veteran, “I’m so excited and honored to be working with the legendary Elton John on this Uber Eats campaign. We had so much fun on set deciding what’s for dinner and trying on each other’s most iconic looks. I can’t wait for everyone to see it!” John, meanwhile, was equally effusive in his praise for the younger artist, saying, “It’s been absolutely wonderful partnering with Lil Nas X, one of the most influential voices in pop culture, and with Uber Eats, my faithful favorite for everything delicious. From taking selfies to deciding to swap looks on set, working together has been a blast.”

Both artists have new projects in the offing; Nas, as previously mentioned, drops his much-hyped debut album Montero this Friday after a rollout that included everything from Lisa Frank-resembling cover art to pregnancy photos — complete with a gift registry where fans can donate to causes important to Nas. Elton’s new project, Lockdown Sessions, is due October 22 and sees him collaborating with contemporary artists like Young Thug and Nicki Minaj.

‘The Matrix’ Fans Are Geeking Out Over A Keanu Reeves Moment In The ‘Resurrections’ Trailer

After giving fans serious early internet vibes with an interactive site that took The Matrix series back to its roots, Warner Bros. dropped the first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, and it absolutely melting minds on social media. While boasting an updated look for the now 20 year old sci-fi series, the Resurrections trailer does an excellent job reeling people back into the world of The Matrix with familiar imagery and the exact brand of WTF moments that made the film a modern classic.

While newcomers Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Jessica Henwick are standouts in the new trailer, there’s one scene that has people absolutely buzzing: Keanu Reeves sitting in a bathtub with a rubber duck on his head.

Via Warner Bros.

While not every reaction revolves around Neo’s duck, it definitely made its presence known as people geeked out over the Resurrections trailer:

Obviously, the plot of the Matrix Resurrections is being kept tightly under wraps, and below is all that Warner Bros. is offering up as a synopsis to keep the film shrouded in mystery:

From visionary filmmaker Lana Wachowski comes “The Matrix Resurrections,” the long-awaited fourth film in the groundbreaking franchise that redefined a genre. The new film reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles they made famous, Neo and Trinity.

Not a whole lot, right? And if you’ve seen the original trilogy, then you undoubtedly have a lot of questions about how the events of this movie are even happening. Whatever it is, it looks like a wild ride, and seeing Keanu Reeves with a duck on his head is apparently worth the price of admission alone.

The Matrix Resurrections hits theaters and HBO Max on December 22, 2021.
